Did it ever occur to you guys that it may be as simple as the fact that there were 2 different designers on the 2 fleets? and the artistic tastes of the guy that designed the republic fleet doesnt mesh with your tastes? I like the republic fleet... it feels much warmer and cozy... and alot less cluttered with crap... i hate how cluttered and messy the imperial fleet is, and how cold and sterile it feels. But i think that is exactly what theyre trying to confer. Republic fleet: Organic, warm and open Imperial fleet: Artificial, cold and cluttered you just happen to like the imperial one better (and if you look at most peoples arguments as to why, its because there are holo-trees and scattered droids...) The republic fleet is cluttered with ugly gates every where. Dezzi Posted February 17, 2012 Share Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) I enjoy the Republic fleet for what it is and what it signifies; when you consider that the Republic fleet is a hodgepodge of alien tastes that are represented by the Republic, you begin to understand it's rustic charm. Seeing beauty in the Imperial fleet's rigid, monotone colors and clean lines simply says something about your own, personal aesthetic choices. It's clean, it's forward, it's contemporary and modern--all style choices that are popular today. Instead of judging it by what it has and doesn't have, or what arrangement of stock parts it's built of, try and appreciate all of the art for what it means and represents. You're right about there being clear differences in taste, but I disagree emphatically with your take on the Empire's aesthetic. Those polished floors are actually meant to repel blaster fire; the book Death Star makes specific reference to this material. And while TOR may be 3,000 years behind the Death Star, those floors are clearly meant to reference the floors of the Death Star's hangar bay (Emperor's arrival). I would argue that the Imperial look is far more function over form--"ergonomic chairs," anyone? There doesn't seem to be any excess at all in Imperial designs. The Empire get to use airlocks all marked with a picture of a republic ship. It's pretty clear that Bioware favours the faction I don't play. pinkfreudHC Posted February 17, 2012 Share Posted February 17, 2012 All the random droids and trees and stuff do make it more cluttered, whether you want to believe it or not, especially combined with the sheer amount of Empire players (on my server fleet is usually near 300 or more) It's not a fun place to look at. It's a get what I came for and get the hell out kind of place. If it wasn't for the annoying speeder ride I'd do all my business in Dromund Kaas instead. Go into the Interfleet Transport, or towards your ship, and try to figure out where the lights reflected on the floor are actually coming from.
