21/2/18 - Carolina Parakeet

Personally I think http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#301uMhrdMboZ0MZfhrbzh.1 is a viable setup for this hybrid. You do lose the ability to guard, the same as you would if you ran full pyro tree, but its a more efficient use of points overall with this hybrid. With the ion cylinder usage of the typical parakeet setup, you essentially blow 5 points just to get to the top of superheated rail in the pyro tree. I'm arguing that 4 points wasted to get to that 5th point is selling yourself short. This setup may not provide guarding, but it increases your survivability, lends to good dps, and you get the perks of charge/grapple root/oilslick, and more tankability + solid dps without being as wasteful with your points.

Thoughts?

You would do something more like http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#301GMhRdMboZ0MZfhMbdh.1 using your idea. I don't know how well it would work out, but it seems like a decent variant of the standard IGC.

I dont get it. You are putting 21 points in ST, but you wouldnt be in IGC?? That would be the biggest waste of 21 points. There is absolutely nothing efficient about it. The point of the St/puro hybrid is not just to get jet charge. It's getting all the benefits of IGC while still packing a punch. You do not blow 5 points in pyro like you said. You can still always jump in CGC when you are in pve and playing dps role. Otherwise as a tank for PvP or PvE IGC is why more efficient and effective then staying in CGC.

Also you take shield vent but stay in CGC? so you will be using a shield and your chance is now 7% instead of 5%? What am I missing here. I hoping the link you have was the wrong one.

Someone please help me understand where this spec shines.

I'm running either 7/2/31 (with Ion Cell) for support/suvivability or 8/6/27 - 4/6/31 for either sustained damage or more burst.

The only profit from parakeet is mobility (Storm) and a little survivability but you lose a ton of damage. It's hard to pressure a good healer with Carolina Parakeet and survivability does not make up for the lost damage (I feel).

I'd love to hear your thoughts / experiences.

The parakeet is a "Tank" pvp spec. Used to run balls, defend objectives, etc... while still pumping up decent damage.

This...sort of...

Carolina Parakeet is a Huttball build in my opinion, nothing more. CP squeezes about as much defense as possible out of Shieldtech that can be viable for PvP and adds some offense. With the upcoming requirement to run CGC, this build is effectively dead.

I never thought a build I made and enjoyed would be embraced by a community as much as this one was, though I hated the name a certain Trung and Chain gave it(Specialist was cooler imho! Who cares if Vanguard only QQ)

It was a fun run while it lasted. Taugrim's builds should still work post patch, and are also quite fun as well, so there's still some hope for those who want a DPS tank with good control.

RIP It was a good run!

RIP.

I had a great time running this spec as a PvE tank, and am horrified that I'm losing it. I never felt OP or anything like that, but it was nice to be able to tank HM EV and pvp in the same night without respeccing, and doing fairly well in both.

Those of you who love this spec, let's make our voices heard on the test server forums and see if we can't get this one change reversed!

I just reached lvl 28 with my PT last week, finally maxing out PPA. It was an awsome ability. I was thinking to myself: "Wow, I rarely overheat anymore. Less rapid shots, more pew pew"

I was looking forward to play your famous fowl hybrid tank/DPS build.

Then they go and kill it, just as they did with my Shadow's tank/DPS build.

I know how you feel. The playstyle you love gets thrown out the window.

I rerolled one of those crazy OP Watchman Sentinel/Annihilation Marauder. And heck, Bioware is even buffing them in 1.2.

I bet that soon all WZs will consist of Sage/Sentinel teams facing off agains Sorc/Marauder teams. Maybe a Shadow/Assasin tank here and there to guard...

RIP, Carolina. RIP.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but this change (aka nerf) does make sense from a game mechanics perspective. I hope that other hybrid builds, such as the sorc healing/dps builds, also get adjusted so that they can't continue to effectively run a double spec.

does make you wonder how they didnt forsee the possibility during the years of development time.

as always, players are far more creative than devs

I haven't gotten a chance to play this spec yet QQ.

I want the charge though, so I'm going to make it work somehow.;)

You'll be going into AP, as lackluster as it is. The entire reason you went into pyro was for PPA; that's the spec's main damage dealer.

Specc can still be adjusted to run with CGC, a lot of people have allready been doing so.

It just puzzles me how this specc is getting nerfed, while certain hybrid assassin speccs are allowed to run untouched. It didn't feel any stronger.

RIP
