  1. Operative DPS really got the shaft in this game. They went from being ridiculously OP at launch to being practically a throwaway spec. Go heals or go home. Concealment especially is a joke...completely reliant on their opener, because most of what they do out of stealth is worthless. I've referred to Scoundrels as Scroungers for so long, I almost forget what their real name is. About all they can do is pick the bones of half-dead players.
  2. Maybe we should start asking for treats after each match? The Pubs definitely have plenty of cookie cutters on hand.
  3. Shout out to Whammy. Because Smash is hard with 3 pocket healers.
  4. The above post is 100% accurate. Just to add: The vast majority of attacks in PvP are yellow damage. A few specs (MM Sniper/Carnage Mara) are heavy on white damage, but 80-90% of what you're up against in PvP is yellow. Keep in mind that crits are also a big part of PvP, so typical mitigation is secondary to HP stacking for PvP tanks. No, you're not going to come anywhere close to PvE mitigation numbers. Truth be told, while PvP mitigation finally works (it never used to at all), it still has diminished use. Most PvP tanks I know stack Endurance and roll with damage mods because when you stack mitigation, you lose just about all means to actually defend yourself. Your damage output is very, very poor. PT tanks are middle of the road as far as damage goes, and while that's not your role, it's important to be able to at least peel and cause a bit of damage.
  5. Yep, you want Endurance/Power augments then. Most attacks in PvP are yellow damage, which don't get mitigated the same way as white damage. Carnage Maras, MM Snipers, and a bit of Vengeance Jugg do a lot of white damage, but just about everything else you face in PvP is Force/Elemental/Tech...making your shields less effective. The only solution is to stack HP to get back some of your tank. PTs especially don't have the defensive CDs of other tank specs, and you're heavily reliant on passive shielding.
  6. Seems like an overambitious solution to an easy problem. Once the acid drops, a **** ton of stealth probe droids should follow, which pops them out of stealth. Those droids are all over the place in PvE areas, shouldn't be hard to implement.
  7. The solution is: play another game. It should be obvious by now that this is not a PvP-friendly game. The devs have openly stated (awhile back) that they did not anticipate how popular PvP would be in SWTOR. Consider the utter failure of Ilum. Not once, not twice, but after three revamps now. We were told there would be more OWPvP areas on Makeb (LOL). We asked for more and better maps, and we got Novarre Coast (Civil War rehash) and Ancient Hypergates (da***). Class balance is still an issue. They have essentially ignored our feedback since beta. In case the obvious still escapes you, these guys don't know what they're doing. Nothing the player base does is ever going to improve PvP in this game.
  8. This is true for PvE, but not for PvP. Mitigation (shield/absorb) for PvE, but get Endurance/Power augments for PvP.
  9. Sorry, I can't get behind this "guide". Gaming the system with gear exploits isn't exactly what I would label as helpful.
  10. Another way to look at is is... This is a video game. Your ranking means exactly zero outside of this game to anyone. It's not like you can post it on your resume or brag about it anywhere else besides guild chat and these forums. Relax. It's supposed to be fun.
  11. You misunderstood what I wrote, so I will clarify: I'm not saying that anyone better than me must be a no-life neckbeard basement dweller. Not at all. I'm saying that across the board, good or bad, PvE or PvP, those players are a significant portion of gaming demographics. Visit any ____ Con, game store, or other nerd gathering, and take a good look at the cross section of people. This stereotype exists for a reason...and those are the people actually willing to show up in public. Nevermind the ones who can't be bothered to shower or unplug themselves long enough to attend. Not ALL gamers are pigeonholed into the uber nerd/neckbeard stereotype of course, but to deny that they're a part of it is ludicrous. And I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing. It is what it is.
  12. If you don't like the D5 Mantis, I think you're missing the entire theme of being a BH in this game, and Star Wars in general. The Mantis is CLEARLY a predecessor to Slave I. It's not some hot rod that the Dark Council gave you, and it's not a sleek Agent ship that looks more like a luxury yacht. You stole your ship. It's supposed to be low key, beat up and utilitarian. The damn thing has a holding cell, what more could you possibly want? Best ship in the game IMHO.
  13. The only gross imbalance in this game is player expectations of it and their ability to play it. And you can quote that for truth. That amount of burst hasn't been possible in this game since the very earliest days when some players exploited Ilum to get full Battlemaster gear. Back then, Operatives were capable of true stunlocking and insane burst from stealth. You would be dead before you could even stand up, much less know what hit you. Even then it was more like 3-4 hits and not the mythical 2-shot. No single class is capable of burning down any other class in this game during the length of a stun (gear being equal). If you're getting owned that quickly, then you either need gear or you're being focused by 2 or more players.
  14. Yes, the leaderboards are clearly being hacked. I should be #1 in all categories.
  15. You people need to think outside the box. What this is going to do is open up server transfers. Some players will transfer to where there's more competition so they can test their mettle. But more likely, the wuss-wannabes will start moving in droves to servers where they have the impression that that can farm to improve their rating. All those transfers = $$$$$ for BioWare
  16. As someone who has been spending a lot of time lately playing Commando and Sniper, I can tell you one thing for an absolute fact: Ranged DPS is reliant on having decent melee support. Previously, I've played PT and Juggernaut. And while all warzones rely on teamwork, you can at least hold your own as melee DPS...even if the rest of your team sucks. Sniper, not as much because you're immune to leap and have a variety of escape tools if you're focused. You can often burn down a target or two, and get away from the rest. Commando, not so much. You're toast. It seems to be universal in arenas that Rule #1 is focus down the healer if there is one. Rule #2 is always: - Kill the Sniper/'Slinger - Kill the Merc/Commando It's because if left alone, they have some great damage, but more that they're viewed as easy kills to swing the numerical odds of 3v4 in your favor ASAP. No one ever says "focus the Jugg tank" or "kill the Mara first".
  17. I provide a public service. Call it trolling if you like, but it's more of an ego check. You see, everything is hunky-dory as long as these guys are able to run rampant, saying and doing whatever they want. It's them asserting themselves as the alpha class, kind of like when dog pees in another dog's yard...but then cowers in fear when a bigger dog with much more bite comes along. Really, I'm doing them more of a favor than anything else. All this back and forth keeps them on the front page, and elevates their social status when really, they're more like Tony Danza: no one cares anymore. And in the spirit of keeping things on track in this thread... I don't always give a shout out to GG. But when I do, it's more like a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
  18. The stance has nothing to do with how you're queued. Your role is defined by which tree you have the most points invested in. The Ion hybrid typically places most points in the AP tree, which is DPS. Are we seriously still stuck on this hybrid being a viable tank? Because it's not. All it does is offer some additional survivability as a DPS at the cost of overall damage potential. More tank, less spank. It's certainly not an unkillable wrecking machine that some people make it out to be.
  19. I roll with Vengeance on my Jugg. Honestly, I don't know how Smashmonkeys keep themselves from falling asleep at the keyboard. But, I digress. Getting back on topic: I got the beta invite, but I can't bring myself to test it. I've learned my lesson about having high expectations for this game. I was a helluva pilot in SWG, and the thought of BioWare developing space PvP makes me nauseous.
  20. If so, I want the Juggernaut SMASH ship. I want a 3-button rotation that puts out crazy damage with a very low skill cap.
  21. Most rumors, stereotypes, myths, and hearsay are based on experience and fact. To get good at anything, you have to practice. Sure there are savants, people who are just freakin' awesome at something as if they were born to do it, but they are the exception. To get good at video games, MMOs in particular, requires lots and lots of play time. Do /played the next time you're on your main to find out how many days of your life you've toiled away playing pew pew in a pretend Star Wars environment. The other thread got deleted because my comments (and I sure others) hit a little bit too close to home for some people to swallow. It is what it is...reality. Yeah, I know some military people who are great at PvP, even some college and high school age kids. But a good majority are the no-lifers, the people who practically live in the game because this is all they have.
  22. Coming from the GG Official Apologist , this means a lot. No, you guys don't double queue. The lesson you've refused to learn is that facerolling PUGs doesn't prove anything. Nor does your PR campaign about turning over a new leaf and being a part of TEH community instead of abusing it. Please, tell me the part about how you guys came back for your friends, that's my favorite. Include a screenie of Diz telling everyone how awesome he is, I miss those.
  23. No, nothing has changed. I remember those days on LA as well. Like when players gamed the system to get Battlemaster gear in a day on Ilum, and getting (literally) stunlocked and 3-shot by Crael. Players are going to abuse the system no matter who is involved or as time drags on. Ultimately, I blame BioWare for not cleaning up their PvP mess after all this time, and for not having a matchmaking system and cross-server queues. Maybe it's just me. Facerolling is fun for a handful of matches, but then it gets old. Personally, I get bored with it after awhile and will switch to an alt. Others however, seem to revel in it. Honestly, I guess I expected more from some of these players, but I guess I'll never learn that lesson. Sorry, Alacris...more double premades aren't the solution to TEH's problems, they are part of the problem. And that's a lesson that teams like yours and GG never seem to learn either.
  24. Sorry, should have elaborated: Not sure what's going on, to be honest. The Assault/Pyro rotation can be timed to have two abilities hit simultaneously, so I assume that's the cause. I've seen quite a few nasty HIB crits from my Commando, and 8K is not uncommon. I chalked it up to running dual Expertise crystals in lowbie PvP, but maybe it goes further than that.
