Hello there!

With the Public Test Server live I wanted to take a moment to dive into what’s changed, what the plan is moving forward, and how you fit into it all. TLDR: We want your feedback and need your help to improve this feature further.

There’s a lot of things that have changed in the backend that will be hard to see at first, but I hope you’ll agree that the new system is better overall for both the current Galactic Trade Network and the future!

The version of the GTN that is available on the PTS is in many ways still work in progress, you might find bugs or issues with it as well as find some features you preferred have changed or been removed. We wanted to get this into your hands as soon as we possibly could to ensure that we get your feedback while still having the time necessary to act on that feedback. Feel free to report issues or bugs, share feedback, and I assure you that we will do our best to address them.

What hasn’t changed

The GTN is still a place where you can put an item up for sale and get credits in exchange. The search functions that existed prior to the revamp also have been maintained with some slight adjustments.

We haven’t updated auction categories yet. Reason being how these are set up on items. If you’ve got feedback about categories though please let us know!

What has changed

  • Searching
    • Search now returns a list of items with all available items per type collapsed down into a single listing.
    • Each of these listings shows the item, the quantity available on the market, and the lowest available price.
    • Clicking on the item/credit button will now open a new window showing each available listing of that item.
  • Buying
    • Seller’s names are now obfuscated from the sale. This is largely due to the amount of information in the new listing page.
    • You will see many listings at the various prices here. There’s a limit though if the item is listed at many different price points you will only see the first 20.
    • You’ll always get the best available listing when you click purchase.
    • Sometimes while you're placing an order, new items might be posted for sale or items you're considering might be purchased.
    • When this happens, you will get as much of the sale as possible at whatever the best price is for that sale.
    • If there’s not enough items to cover the sale, you will be refunded the difference.
    • If you overpay due to a new lower price, you will be refunded.
  • Claiming
    • Claiming now has its own window within the Galactic Trade Network!
    • Mail is only used in cases of alerts about sales or expirations.
    • Opening the claim page you will see a list of claimable sales and purchases.
    • You have a limit on purchases of 10 Buy Slots. Buy slots can be increased as necessary up to a maximum of 50.
    • Sale Slots are the same as our current slots. These can be increased to 100.
    • Slots become used when you create a listing or make a purchase.
    • Slots become available again after you claim all of the associated credits and items within that slot.
    • There is still a 60 day time limit to claim the item, make sure you claim your items!
  • Selling
    • Fees:
      • A buyer’s fee is added to the purchase price. This means the amount you put into the unit price is the amount you will receive.
      • The buyer’s fee is dependent on the unit price and is progressive starting at 6% (lower than current) but scaling up from there. Below is a chart that lays out the rates:

  • As you can see, we’ve also increased the minimum duration from 6 hours to 12 hours, and the maximum duration is now 7 days up from 3 days. This is to make it more likely for listings to sell and to reduce relisting.
  • Under this model the fees max out at 100 Million. Due to the minimum fee, listings under that value can end up being not profitable. We warn you when you create a listing like this with a confirmation as well as highlighting the total profit in red if it is negative.

New Features:

  • Favorites
    • Favorites is a Subscriber feature.
    • You can now mark an item as a Favorite! Click the `star` to set this.
    • There is a limit of 5 Favorites.
    • Clicking on the Quick Search button for Favorites will quickly show only these items you’ve selected.
  • Newly Listed
    • You can see up to 30 of the most recently listed items with this search. It’s not real time, but should update when you perform the search.
  • Popular
    • This is based on recent sales volume.
    • Up to 30 of the most purchased items.
  • Cartel Rarity Filter
    • You can now filter based on the Cartel Rarity of an item:
      • Bronze
      • Silver
      • Gold
      • Platinum
    • Having this set will filter out any non-Cartel items and show only items of the selected Rarity.
  • Market Data
    • We have some more information coming to the purchase page that shows the current median value and its recent high/low values as well as a more historical version of that value.
    • Recent looks at a smaller subset of time to give you an idea of the trend.
    • Historical is a larger time frame but is not lifetime.
    • We plan on expanding on this section in the future, details to come when we have them.
  • Additional Changes:
    • Due to some backend changes we no longer support items with random stat allocations  on the Galactic Trade Network. These are primarily world drops from leveling up to 70. These will continue to be tradable and marketable versions of their appearances will eventually be made available in game wherever they are not currently.
    • Similarly in the case of Crafted Augmented Gear, we will still allow the gear to be sold but the Augmentation Slot will be removed. We will warn you in this case before you list the item
    • We removed the Usable By for Companions filter. Ultimately this filter was not used often and due to the sheer amount of potential companions and changes in companion equipment since launch. We did maintain the “Usable By Me '' functionality, though it's still limited in the same way it was prior to the revamp to showing items that can be equipped as opposed to actually "usable".
  • Trading Fees:
    • We previously stated that we planned on keeping the trade fees tied to the highest marginal rate on the Galactic Trade Network. Due to the nature of these fees applying in both directions, the effective rate is actually double (16% as 8% is assessed twice). To keep the trade fees a bit better aligned with the GTN, we will not be increasing the rate at this time as a 16% effective rate is still higher than the new top effective rate of 14.93%.
    • We will be monitoring both Galactic Trade Network use as well as Trading and may make further adjustments where necessary.

It’s worth noting that this is a multi-phase release, meaning there will be continued improvements based on your feedback, our data, and some plans are still in motion. Buy orders are on the top of our list, but there’s other smaller improvements that are still in the pipeline based on previous feedback.

So, with that in mind - please continue to give us feedback on this new system. Jump on PTS and hammer away at it! We’ve added some initial listings to flesh out the market and added vendors with sellable items for you to list.

Some general questions to answer in your feedback:

  • Is there any functionality of the existing system that you don’t see in the new system that you would prefer we preserve?
  • What do you like about the new system? What do you dislike?
  • Are there any specific filters, searches, or ways of finding items that you wish existed?
  • Do you have any concerns with how the new system feels to use?

PTS Specific Testing

If you use the Level Boost NPC in Kessan’s Landing you’ll also receive a handful of Marketable crafted equipment, some materials, and crystals. Feel free to put these on the GTN to go through the selling flow, and when looking to buy you’ll likely be able to find these items available from others who have gone through the selling flow to test the buying flow. You can use any Marketable items for testing but we wanted to give a select amount of them so that folks have a particular set to work from with new characters.

Umm these taxes are awful. Why do you think this encourages trading. Tbh I'd rather trade someone and they pay in increments. This way u avoid 14 honking percent. That's rediculous.

i think the changes to the GTN are total rubbish.  I don't think the GTN was broken tbh .... if you want to change the inflated prices just lower your Cartel market prices so people don't buy items to sell for jacked up prices.   We all know this won't happen because you are milking every red cent you can out of the cartel market.  the whole out of game markets in EVERY MMO have made programmers lazy and the produce far less content that players really want.   Every MMO company slowly kills their own game with these cash shops... because more and more time is spend making items to sell than actual game content that players desire.  Look at how many millions of subscribers dropped after the cartel market was introduced.   You essentially make most crafters obsolete short of a few items and i'm sure if you could figure out a way to sell that stuff on the cartel market without ticking everyone off you would.   Try producing content and stop changing systems that really have little to do with gameplay.

Note: I'm from Germany, so my english is for sure very bad.

Overall, I don't like the changes!

The change of the UI and some functions are ok to nice. If you want to change the old UI, do it. I don't need it (and hate the 8 slots per row in my inventory for smombies with vertical smartphone-display-eyes). But I'm ok with that, if you need it.

To be fair, I've tested only a few functions until I closed the window and removed the GTN decoration from my stronghold. I dont need it anymore, because I'm done with GTN and crafting.

Why? I dont understand the system with stacks, no sellers, ... And like so much else in this game, there are no tutorials to learn more (clearly and understandable, not forum posts in languages I dont understand) about it.

But the most serious thing and the nail in the GTN coffin for me is the american pure capitalism system. I pay for nothing? Really? An item isn't sold, but I have to pay fees for it? What the heck??? I thougt star casino event is for risky gambling and loose credits. I dont need another system for that. 😉

Give me high taxes for what is SOLD! I'm fine with that, because I can CHOOSE to sell an item or not. But let me pay only for TRYING it? No way friends!

There are to much credits in the game? I suggest you reduce the price by 90% for guild flagships another time. 😄

Edit:

I think it's necessary to say that I'm loving this game and will play it until the last server is down! I dont cry anything like "I kill my sub". I mostly appreciate all of your work and stay subbed for more. ;)

@JoeStramagliaif you have not already seen it, I really like the top comment chain from this post on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/18bk86g/the_new_gtn_is_horrible/

The stuff that added is minimal. This new system, mistakes will be made and they will be costly. I see things listed for 200 credits but the one behind it is millions. It's an attempt to scam.

The searches are broken for Pets/Mounts.

The schematics you already know aren't greyed out on your character. You have to figure out the ones you are missing when shopping now.

Same with things your character cannot use - If you already have max decorations, own the pet/mount/emote. It isn't greyed out anymore.

Hell, if you add tons of auctions on the regular, you won't even know if you have an item already listed (like on another character, or even you if you have a bad memory). You'll be competing prices with yourself.

The GTN was fine. I cannot figure out why they changed it.

You also can't shift+Click items listed in the sell tab, to autofill the search bar in the buy tab anymore.

A small thing, but it annoys me a lot.

It's not a small thing at all that's massive.

Feedback:

  • Purchasing multiple quantity of an item is very confusing in terms of the deposit required and should be changed.
    • It should not require a deposit for the most expensive unit price for the full quantity requested, it should just be the current best price if 100% of your order is still available at the current prices shown.  Players would just not get the full quantity requested if the cheapest items sell and require purchasing from more expensive price points.
    • Players should be able to purchase based on credit value in addition to quantity.  So if I really need 30 units exactly, I can put in 30, but if I just want to spend 40 million credits because that's all I have, I should be able to buy as many units as available for 40m and put in 40 million credits instead of units.
  • A few of the places we used to be able to shift click to auto fill the "search" field to buy items don't work anymore.  Not sure if this can or will be brought back.  i.e. shift click your current items for sale, shift click from materials inventory (according to a comment on my YouTube channel)
  • Would be great if sales data could be a graph to see trends/changes over time & to add in sales volume over time.
  • Would like to see the fixes above about items being "greyed out" if you already have the max limit of what the item grants so you know not to buy it for this character
  • Without being able to see your name next to items you have listed, would be nice if the sell tab would be able to show you sales across your entire legacy so you can quickly check which toon is selling which item, etc.  In the past I would often search items I had for sale to see if they had sold or if my toon name was still listed next to active listings.

Overall, I'm very happy with the direction of the GTN update and looking forward to further updates to build upon the success of the initial rollout.

my feedback.

the good points:

  • its good to see that all the items are now stackt in to one sell slot so that you not have a lot of page's anymore with the same item that make's it a lot easyer if you are looking for a new pet, mount or weapon/armor on the GTN.
  • that you now can buy items per unit and not per stack anymore is a good point since as a crafter i sometime's run out on some craft materials and also come short on it by 1 or 2 so its easy to per unit and not per stack since in the old gtn you need to buy most of the time's per stack what is sometime's a lot more when you need it.
  • the favoriete system is a good thing since you can now look fast and at the same time on all the items you have favoriete since if you wane look at a cartal market item like a mount or new weapon you can now see a lot faster if its the right time to buy it or not on the GTN.

the bad points there need to improve.

  • like it has been told all on this thread when the new GTN was on the PTS there that you most buy always the lower price from the item is a bad move and most players not like that idea at all since you only get more and more undercuters that sell there item with 1 credit lower then the other is selling thats more promote to undercut more on the GTN when a lot of people not like that at all. and the only sulution for this problem is that players can choose again from what for item stack pool there wane buy since a lot of players not wane buy from undercuters that undercut with 1 credit each time.
  • like it has also been told on this thread all the idea that you can buy your own item from your own char is selling or your own toons is going to end wrong at somepoint since somebody is going to make that mistake at some point and then its to late more since we have told all on this thread it can happing.
  • and also i like to see that you get your fee back if the item is not sold on the GTN when the listing time has run out since not all the items are going to be sold so easy since some items like your own cartal market one's need a longer time to be sold then the 7 day's sell time.

Honestly I find the new GTN horrible to understand with my mental disabilities.  I nearly bought a ton of companion gifts for 37,000,000. The old system was very clear to understand, and I think the new change will affect others with disabllities.  Definately change it back to how it was 100% I have played the game since launch and this is just the most horrible change ever in the history of horrible changes.  I am all for changing the graphics, but the new system of selling and buying just doesn't work.

Hello,

Many players have been expressing to me while I was streaming that they were not able to SHIFT+CLICK items.

I told them they were wrong. However, players were actually trying to express that they could not shift click items to search for them on the GTN from odd places that might not be expected, based on how they play and buy items on the GTN.

  • Working, mostly: SHIFT+CLICK search from items in INVENTORY (I still had players say its finicky but could not reproduce)
  • Not working: SHIFT+CLICK search from crew skills schematics (say you want to craft something, you would have the crafting window open and search for the materials on the GTN so you don't have to type them)
  • Not working: SHIFT+CLICK search from collections - the window once you open an item in collections after you click "Show Items" and there is a list of individual items (say you want to try buying items you don't have collected yet piece by piece)
  • Not working: SHIFT+CLICK search from legacy-wide materials bay (say you want to know how much your giant collection of Gleaming Phond Crystals is worth - note this one also doesn't link into chat as expected - you also can't split from this screen so I imagine that's related)
  • Not working: SHIFT+CLICK search from chat to GTN (say someone is selling something they linked in trade chat and you want to price-check it on the GTN - I don't think this worked before though and is more edge-case - right now, if you SHIFT+LEFT CLICK from chat it just pastes it into your own chat instead of the GTN search box)
  • ADDED: Additionally you can no longer SHIFT+CLICK listings in the SELL tab to populate search field on the BUY tab. This was a useful feature of the old GTN that allowed sellers to check our listings against our competators. (from player Sunjammer below)

Our data shows these items do not sell on the GTN very often, however we immediately realized the problem to solve here was not about access to the gear, but about access to the appearances. They will still be tradable and available outside of the GTN the way they currently are and we want to give additional avenues to get them. Although that won't happen in 7.4, we are already looking at how we can start getting players access to those appearances in-game. Hopefully as soon as our next patch (7.4.1) but we'll let you know once we have details.

Is this addition still on track for 7.4.1? :)
