Upcoming Update of the Game Launcher

Downloaded the setup file, pointed it to my current folder, no repair options presented.  Completed without doing anything.  Back to host error message again.

Just noticed the "Trusted Installer" process keeps growing in memory size after a failed start.

Well balls.  Doesn't want to work on Steam either.

Further edited the registry to remove all traces of previous normal launcher install.  Deleted all the files.  Re-installed the launcher, it launches, updates, then all I get is the spinning circles and whilst they are doing their thing I can still click on username, password etc.  The option to repair from within the launcher is not available.

Damn thing is broken, last worked on the 13th Oct.

I think we need to start facing the fact that we are their acceptable margin of error in this new launcher. This has happened to me twice in the last month. I follow the process and emailed customer support. I sent my logs and tried new executables. I’ve done all of this multiple times, all the while receiving no response and no compensation at all. It was a good 10 years, but I think it might finally be over. 😞

I have been doing some more testing and found the problem for my PC.  I use Avira Antivirus.  To enable the launcher to work and install the game I had to disable both "Real-time scanning" and "Web Protection".  Now, whilst the game was downloading, if I switched RTS back on, the download would halt.  Disable it again, 'DL' would resume.  At this point WP could be switched on.  The game then launched, could be played.

I inserted exceptions for SWTOR executable files into the AV but upon trying, the launcher still crashed and required the the two protections to be turned off temporarily, even after a reboot.

This temporary 'fix' hasn't stopped it dropping me back to the character select screen even after choosing one and clicking 'PLAY'.  At least the game runs!!

So, is it an AntiVirus program update that has caused the problem, or, a launcher update?  Personally, I'd be lead believe to a launcher issue, something has changed within that now triggers the AntiVirus systems.

Hope this helps you and others.

FIX to this is just delete the bioware install, and reinstall through STEAM. It's free to add to your library in Steam, and you sign in your normal account.
Game launches fine, and Steam install has less bloat.

6 days and no reply from support. I actually think they are stumped with a fix. But it makes no sense to do a full release of the launcher when theres people who cant launch the Fing game. fix known issues and then make it available to everyone

My launcher is just a white box cant repair or anything something went wrong when i tried logging in spinning wheel lasted ages then when it crashed and i tried to relaunch it just a white box.

In the game folder a update.exe file showed up but then said failed to update host when i tried running it

i cant do fresh install as it says host window load timeout when i try to open the new install file. or it launches as a blank white box that i cant do anything with

i have resorted to going via steam as i been struggling since last week, but i rather get main launcher working and not use steam

My launcher had been working, with only one hiccup since the new launcher. Had black screen. Completely reinstalled from website, and has been working until last night. Black screen again. I am unable to access Repair from the launcher, as there are no images or buttons to interact with. Using the setup file from the SWTOR folder gives me the Repair option, but only takes a nanosecond, and does not resolve the issue. I have updated drivers, rebooted, just in case. Looks like I might try a fresh install again, when time permits.

Despite being selected to have the test version of the launcher, which worked fine except one time but closing it down and re-starting the launcher fixed.,

Today after patch 18/10/22 up-date it no longer works. It loads but all servers are greyed out and none can be selected. Tried closing down and re-starting so far 5-6 times, same. No longer working for me at all.

So, a full removal and reinstall of the launcher seems to have worked again, but not sure for how long.

I mean, it's a patch day, so have they stated that the servers are back up yet? I don't expect them to be up for a few hours.

[edit: https://www.swtor.com/server-status shows servers still down]

[also edit: here is the Twitter announcement for the maintenenace: https://twitter.com/SWTOR/status/1582340971609882624?s=20&t=ZrhUEUWfnRhX8_hlbwsYfQ]

Answer: until I tried to add ReShade. Is anyone else trying to play using ReShade? I had it on my old install, but never got it to work. When the new launcher came out, the original started to black screen, and I accidentally created an entirely new install. The new install worked until I tried adding ReShade, and now works again, only when ReShade is not also installed.

Hi everyone,

We’re seeing some common issues players are reporting that can be fixed by using the Repair function. We wanted to highlight these scenarios for players, so they can get into a working state.

  • If you see these type of errors:
  • Game not launching
  • Launcher crashing
  • Blank launcher screen
  • Slow launcher

Please try:

  • Open the launcher, go to settings, and run the Repair function
  • Or, if your launcher crashed during upgrade, please download the new installer from this page, run it, and choose "Repair"

If you are still experiencing issues and have not submitted your log file to Support, we highly suggest you do, so we can troubleshoot the issues further.

Launcher won't even let me log in.  Its been over a week now.  I've sent in my logs multiple times and support has no idea what to do.  Repair function is still greyed out.

So downloaded this 'new launcher' only to get the same issue.  So at this point the game is completely unusable.

hey  -Fabien- and  lordjaggy , am trying to help a guildee troubleshoot at the same time and was just curious:

  1. What OS are u guys using?
  2. Do u guys have any 'anti-virus' programs running in background at all?
  3. And do you recall how long ago it was when you first  installed SWTOR originally onto your current same computer?

Edit:

Never mind, the second time installing the new launcher fixed the problem for some reason...

Second Edit:

Nope, still not working, now eternally stuck at 9.09 MB download remaining. 😖

And it's not letting me access the repair function.

Third Edit:

Uninstalled and reinstalling via Steam, hope that fixes it. 😤

***********************************************************************************************

Since the update, my launcher hasn't worked properly. I thought it was just a visual bug, but now I'm not so sure.

Basically, after I enter my security key, the screen freezes half way to the next screen where I can then press play to start the game. By pressing enter or clicking with the mouse where the play button should be I was still able to launch the game normally, so I basically ignored the bug so far.

However, the game didn't update and instead launched the game into the unpatched version.

I tried using the launcher repair utility which didn#t change anything.

I don't particularly fancy reinstalling the entire game, any other ideas?

I am still getting the now infamous Host_WindowLoadTimeout error. So I've done some debugging and noticed this. Here is my host.developer.log for the latest installer/launcher.

Notice lines 48-54. It looks like the launcher starts a web server on the loopback interface. Doing a packet capture during one of these install runs, I see that the web server is sending back a HTTP 403 error every time right before I get the Host_WindowLoadTimeout error. Here's a copy of the TCP query and response from my packet capture on port 55984 as seen in the log above.

Someone at @CommunityTeam or @JackieKo, is this expected behavior? I am not running any firewall or antivirus software while testing this. I hope someone from BioWare responds to this. The community and the broken players deserve the respect and professionalism of regular updates on this issue until it is solved.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Update from the team on what they are currently troubleshooting. There are two main issues that they are working to resolve that covers many of the edge cases that they are seeing reported in the forums.

The first is a version issue. Thanks to the logs that players submitted, they can see a version mismatch, so they will be working to deploy a fix to correct this.

The second is players seeing a Launch_Error_Code after successfully upgrading to the new launcher. This appears to be specific to the player's computer as the launcher executable can trigger antivirus blocks as this is the first launcher update in quite some time. So currently, the team is troubleshooting further.

I'll update this thread when I know more.

Thank you

Steam is ok, but this is not really good on ops

Edit :
