  1. Thank you. Maybe I'll use my level 60 boost on a Counselor and see how it in in KotFE.

I'd caution you against jumping into KOTFE/KOTET if you haven't played the Jedi Knight's story, Shadow of Revan, and Ziost (the interlude between Shadow of Revan and KOTFE). Those explain the set-up and backstory for KOTFE - jumping straight ahead locks you out of class story and Shadow of Revan/Ziost... it's also very confusing. "Wait, who are they talking about here? What happened on Ziost that's so important? Who's this guy now?" etc.

  2. The Jedi Knight story is straight-up heroic fantasy - you go save the galaxy. It does take a few unconventional twists to get there (namely, the end of Act II), but for the most part it's pretty straightforward.

As for voice acting... honestly, the male Knight is, in my opinion, much better than the female Knight. Yeah, female Knight sounds like a cheerleader. o_e Male Knight, on the other hand, does a much better job at sounding mature when you want him to (light-side), or threatening and ominous (dark-side). And sarcastic. He does a good job with the sarcastic/snarky lines, too. :p

Unfortunately, the female Consular continues to sound extremely flat all the way throughout the vanilla story. I've heard she gets better later on in other expansions, though. The male Consular manages to keep a perpetually-amused/curious/diplomatic tone in his voice as long as you pick the inquisitive or intelligent conversation options. Pure light-side makes both male and female Consulars sound like airheads. Dark-side is...petulant, and female Consular's still extremely flat. Male Consular does a bit better.

  3. I think a HK droid impersonating his voice would probably earn a purple Quinn face palm...and it would make me laugh lol

Quinn: Impersonating my voice? That, my lord Nightfrogger, is a crime. Quite literally. Impersonating an Imperial officer is punishable by law.

HK-51: Theory: We shall test that.

Quinn: *glare* By all means. I'd love to see you try. *needless to mention the sarcasm here...*

    HK-51: Declaration: Stuffiness protocol engaged.

    Quinn: What.

HK-51: Declaration: I am Malavai Quinn. Human, male, age indeterminate except speculated on by fangirls. Note: I have somehow managed to escape the ravages of age so common to meatba--*ahem* organics. Addendum: I am the very model of a modern major Imperial. Confused addition: For some reason, my "charm" and stuffiness have attracted a large gathering of fangirls. Note to self: Must investigate. Clarification: I have been accused of being spineless; this is entirely untrue. It merely goes missing at convenient moments--

    *EMP grenade goes off*

    Quinn: *facepalm* ...that...was disturbing.

  4. You know there is a Voice Actors strike on right?

We are lucky to get any VO in this currently state of the industry.

Deal with the new voice and move on because if the players cannot accept a relatively "small" change like Quinn then how can the studio make the "big" changes like Jennifer Hale.

We accept this or we will likely see no more voice.

...this was back in vanilla. The dialogue was recorded in 2011 or previously. There was no strike back then. No one's complaining; just a tad confused about the odd change in voice for all of thirty seconds. We are, indeed, "accepting it."

Read the full post, please, before you start jumping in and making assumptions.

  5. What does SGR stand for?

    Same-gender romance.

I finally took my inquisitor through Chapter Twelve of KOTFE. D'aww, Theron's letter that he sends afterwards... so sweet. And so very awkward. :o Uh... she (inquisitor) tried to kill Satele.

    "Poor Theron."

...yeah, SOMEHOW, that just ticked off the inquisitor even more. What a hypocrite Satele is... and, possibly, the inquisitor, too. I really hope Theron neeeever finds out about that. Oopsie.

  6. Wait. There's different hair styles? I always thought the ones in the packs were just the ones you can get in the appearance designer that cost slightly more? Anywhere I can preview them to see if I'd like any of them?

Yeah, you can preview them in the appearance designer (you don't have to buy them to preview them there).

The ones in the packs *are* the ones in the appearance designer. As I understand it, though, if you buy the pack and unlock it, you can now use those hairstyle options at character creation. (Correct me if I'm wrong, please. :o)

  7. 374 pages of Quinn. It. Simply. Is. TOO. MUCH.

Quinn: I'm inclined to agree. On the other hand, 374 pages of...er, me...have apparently kept me alive thus far.

And the fangirl love! Pages aren't enough, 'tis what FILLS those pages!

Quinn: *wince* ...and the, ah, fangirl love.

    :D

Quinn: That has made me act grossly out of character in the name of comedy.

    ...but...it IS funny...

    Quinn: *facepalm*

  8. Celebrate 1 day closer to the Apeiron release of Kotor.

    /squee

    *SQUEE* :D

On the livestream last night, they ran through the Valley of the Dark Lords on Korriban. While playng

    from KOTOR.

I just about fell out of my chair in fangirling spasms. XD

As for May the 4th? I shall celebrate by...working on my midterm exam for Copyediting. :p And squee'ing my way through Chapter Fourteen of KOTFE, because REPUBLIC COMMANDOS MUSIC, YAAAAAAAAY!

  9. Dromund Kass? Boy, oh boy, have I missed it. Thank you sir. Well, I guess I'm going back to Dromund Kass :D

Sure thing! :) I'm not sure if you need to have sidequests enabled on your map... it *should* be marked with a purple triangle, like class quests. He's standing next to the speeder pad near The Wall.

    Have fun!! :D

  10. You have to have an Imperial character for those specific quests. On Dromund Kaas, you'll come across a Sith apprentice - can't recall his name - by The Wall (a landmark on that planet). You should be running by The Wall at one point or another in your class quests, so you'll come across it naturally. He'll give you a quest chain that will lead you to those sidequests.

The one dealing with Revan's mask is one of my absolute favorite side-quests in the entire game. :D

  11. I honestly don't know if this will still work, as when I tried it, it was well before even 4.0... but what happened to me on this quest was that I got logged out due to inactivity. I had to be away from the computer for a bit, it wasn't a random bug. When I got back and logged back in, the quest had changed from "Board the escape pods" or whatnot, to something along the lines of, simply, "Travel to the Tyrant."

I was able to use my ship to head to the Tyrant and complete the story from there. Try going back to the airlock on Janarus's flagship - where you first boarded it - and use your ship to travel to the Tyrant? Perhaps that might work...?

(Edit: Ah - seems you found it out. :D You edited your post about thirty seconds before I posted mine. XD Yay, it still works!)

  12. What do the new hairstyles look like?

One of them, female only, is Shae Vizla's haircut. Yay. :D

    The other two... uhh?

    http://dulfy.net/2017/05/02/swtor-new-hairstyles-available-in-cartel-market/

There's a link to Dulfy's article about them - but something's odd about that. The first "unisex" hairstyle seems to, in Dulfy's picture, be missing two little braids in the back. They were there when I previewed them for a character.

True black would be wonderful for them. Greenish-black... ew. Sounds like they wash their hair in motor oil.

  13. They borked something with this patch. Malavai isn't "Main Characters" any longer. He's in his own categoty "Characters". Alone there. Also the note "he decided to join your alliance" is gone.

    http://imgur.com/Mdo1poA

Quinn's so special he transcends normal categorization as a companion, apparently. That is...weird. o.O

Edit: Hey! I got ninja'd by two seconds. :p

  14. I take issue with all this Quinn fainting :p A man who wrote this letter, spent years searching for his warrior love, went to jail rather than give her up for dead and then wrote this letter (if you side with imps - assume spoilers) is not a man who faints. Ever. Though I would like some floor cushions for my stronghold....for other [imaginary] business ;)

Quinn: I agree. Fainting is entirely below me. *faints*

    Heh...

Quinn: JAGAIMEE WOULD YOU STOP DOING THAT-- *faints*

    :)

Quinn: I. Hate. You. *stays awake* ...ha! *falls over* ...NO.

    Am I bad? Oh, yes.

Quinn: *from the floor* Cushions would be lovely, my lord. .-.

  15. We don't deserve anything.

Server **** happens, deal with it.

You and I don't agree on a few other things, but this? Spot on. :)

Guys, no one "deserves" anything here. The servers were down for half a day. HALF. A DAY. It wasn't unexpected - we had updates periodically, with the knowledge that they'd come down for a while in the first place - and it wasn't for a truly inexcusable amount of time with no explanation, say, a week.

And you want compensation for it? What's that, an extra half day added to your subscription? Five cartel coins? Twelve cents? Oi vey, people. Quit your whining.

  16. Yes, this IS a known bug, and there is a workaround.

    1) Travel to another random planet. Doesn't seem to matter which one.

    2) Go back to Belsavis*. Make sure that it is BELSAVIS that is selected on the planet selection screen - there is another area on Belsavis that's chosen by default, called Section X. It's really easy to mix up the two, as the distinction between them is not easily seen. That's what's tripping people up - Section X is automatically chosen as the destination, and it's not very easy to see that at first.

    3) Make sure, of course, that you're using your ship, not the galaxy map quick-travel option.

*You'll run into a similar situation on Corellia, near the end of your class stories. The Black Hole on Corellia is automatically selected, not Corellia proper. Make sure you've actually selected Corellia, not The Black Hole (a daily area, similar to Section X's purpose).

  17. Am I the only one who actually loves the male consular's VO work? :p I've played through the consular story twice now, with a male and female consular - and truth be told, while the story was boring, I was fully engaged in it because of the male consular's voice acting. (I've since taking him at least partway through KOTFE - and it was due to voice acting alone that I suddenly realized he was falling in love with Lana. An entire romance started because of the way he delivered ONE LINE that isn't even remotely romantic. It was adorable.)

Female consular, on the other hand... for the first time ever since I started playing this game, I found myself spacebarring occasionally through the class story. *hangs head in shame* But, hearing the news that she's gotten exponentially better in KOTFE/KOTET - yay! I do plan to take my female consular through KOTFE/KOTET, romancing Theron, and I'm looking forwards to it.

What about the male trooper's voice? He was never very emotive (well...he *was* at certain times - like the Jaxo situation, gah that just about broke my heart), but in SOR and beyond... the poor guy sounds so flat and weary. Which, I guess, is part of the trooper's overall character: they've gone through so much crap that it's wearing them down noticeably.

  18. I appreciate that you took the time to put all that down. It does seem to me he's a bit off in Chapter 12, but it didn't bother me all that much, I didn't dig it, but I didn't hate it. It's useful to know this stuff, because I'd like to be as accurate and thoughtful as I can in my depiction of him, and while I can see that death would change a person's perspectives after revisiting their life after they'd died, I don't really see him hanging about with Satele while she camps either. That disappointed me a whole bunch. And that he would consider HER his equal in all the galaxy. Puhleeeze she's no where close to being his equal. I shouldn't get started because I could rant about her all day too. I hate the woman.

Thanks for listing your reasons, it gives me food for thought. :)

Hey, sure! :) I'm glad you didn't think it was the ramblings of a crazy woman. And - yeah, SATELE SHAN, his only equal in the galaxy? ...whaaaat. No. No, no way. I...can't actually think of any Jedi who's Marr's equal, to be honest. None of them seemed grounded in reality the way he is...er, was. *sigh*

I have a theory regarding Marr's odd depiction in chapter twelve, though. A totally insane, crazy, haha-yeah-right, only in headcanon theory, but...anyways.

It's Valkorion impersonating Marr. The real Marr is either dead and truly gone, or frozen in carbonite somewhere. Valkorion, in the guise of Darth Marr, visited Satele Shan and gradually got her to accept his views of the Force, started grooming her to pass on her now-twisted ideas to the Outlander. Because, hey, if the Outlander didn't seem to accept Valkorion's views, then they should take it a little better if it's coming from someone they at least know (smuggler, trooper, bounty hunter, agent) and explicitly trust (warrior, knight, consular, inquisitor). And if the Outlander was all very willing to bow the knee, to accept Valkorion's power, etc. Then having backup in the form of Satele and "Darth Marr" would only cement their allegiance. Because hey, if Satele and Darth Marr are telling me what Valkorion's already said...ha! He WAS right! And these fools are only just now realizing it! Hahaha, I DON'T need them!

How was Valkorion able to merrily walk off and talk to Satele while the Outlander's still frozen in carbonite? ... I have no idea! :D But...it's Valkorion. The person who can eat planets. Footling about while technically locked in a substance that should completely block the Force might be small potatoes for him. XD

Like I said. Crazy stupid insane theory. XD But a gal can dream.

  19. Regarding chapter 12 Darth Marr, I'm asking out of curiosity, y'know in the name of science, since I've devoted an entire year of my life writing his story...what is so bad about chapter 12 Marr? And this is open to anyone who feels up to giving me a thought or two.

And yes, we most definitely need a statue for Quinn. All the other comps get them. Gault gets one, Kaliyoyuck gets one...why not dear Malavai? <3

    Well, as for Marr...

... he always used to be the voice of pragmatism. A Sith Lord who wasn't so entrenched in the Dark Side that he was off-the-rails bloodthirsty, flat-out insane, or so lost in his own pride/arrogance/power that he was insufferable. He was focused on defending the Empire, on securing its safety before throwing it against the Republic once more. He didn't care about power. He could have easily taken the Emperor's title and throne - and didn't. It wasn't in his interests, and it wasn't in the best interests for the Empire.

Come Chapter Twelve, however, and suddenly he's saying things like "You must anchor yourself to power" and "In life, I dismissed the Jedi Code. I was wrong. There is no death. There is only the Force, and it has a plan."

Either dying really does change one's mind on things (as any Sith Inquisitor can tell you :p) or Marr's just...off. He then says (yes, I wrote everything down.......) "I once thought it enough to be the unstoppable force beween my people and the enemy. I faced Valkorion and refused to bend. That choice broke me – and doomed the worlds I sought to defend." ...so he essentially says "Yeah, I should've bowed before Valkorion." So he could...what? Lead the Empire in bowing before Valkorion? Marr the bastion of strength in the Empire would rather kneel before a demon than die with his morals intact, a symbol of hope and courage to his people?

Chapter Twelve Marr just seems very out of character compared to what we've seen before. Before, in-game and in various books (like the short time he appears in Annihilation), Marr never really talked about the Force. He seemed firmly grounded in reality. Here, however, he just seems like the mildly dark-side equivalent to Yoda. Add that to the fact that he and Satele just up and toodle off at the end, instead of adding their strength and teachings (such as they are...) to the Alliance... because, yeah, obviously we can't use AN UNKILLABLE FORCE-GHOST ON OUR SIDE. One who can appear and disappear at will, walk through walls, etc. He sure would be valuable for recon. XD And Satele... well, this isn't about Satele, I have a whole 'nother rant on her, nevermind. XD

That, and he's always had respect for the Wrath, or at least it seemed that way to me. Ghost!Marr suddenly spouts off with, "As the Wrath, you were always forced to stand alone. You planned and executed…[his voice takes on a distinct tinge of distaste]…without regard for others." He sounded rather disgusted, honestly. :/

One thing that struck me recently is the fact that Satele disappeared off to Odessen, it's implied, shortly after the Eternal Empire stomped all over the Republic - so, maybe four and a half years ago by the time of Chapter Twelve. She never thought to bring the remnants of the Jedi Order there. Similarly, Marr apparently never thought to gather the reasonable/pragmatic Sith who are still left to Odessen. So together, Jedi and Sith, they could regroup, figure out where to go from there, be relatively safe from Arcann for the time being, etc. Instead, Marr spent all of five years basically just sitting and talking to Satele. He did nothing to help his Empire that he supposedly loves. He just gave it all up for lost, while still saying "I care only to defend my Empire" or something like that (forgot to write THAT part down...), and went on a friendly camping trip with the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order.

    My head is spinning.

  20. Oh come on, stop with those skin color bugs ... these are not important. Way more important bugs then some skin bugs. Like the Ziost daily mission bug and the disappearing companion bug, game breaking bugs you know.

...thaaaat's why I said, I'll keep bringing them up for when they have time to get to them, and then went on to say "essential bugs should always have priority over cosmetic bugs." Essential = game breaking. Was I not very clear...? (I'm not being sarcastic with that question; I know I have a tendency to completely mix up my sentences and I'll think that what I've said is clear as day, when it's actually incredibly muddled. :o)
