  1. Thanks all. 3800 cc was steep but worth it, not just for the story [which was okay], the comps [meh] and the cheevos [100% companions!], but also savoring the tears of past forumites who claimed that BW would never sell this chapter, or if they did, it ought to cost 10k CCs, because that's what it cost back in the day. I think probably 40% of the reason I bought it was this last reason.
  2. I’m saying that the level of relevance of Uprisings is similar, or analogous, to those other examples, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

    .

The problem is that there's very little connection. Yes, they're brought up in the story, but they're brought up whether you do them or not. There's no story reward for doing SFs [or uprisings apparently], other than

Literally the only thing they change is autocompletion of a bonus mission in one chapter. Omg, how important.

The dialogue should change whether you completed these missions or not. Ideally there should be gameplay advantages too [like skipping the dreaded walker battle, for instance]. Theron should be able to point out the uprisings and the specific role the outlander played in suppressing them if you actually did them. Don't even get me started on Gods. Instead they're all disconnected from each other.

  3. The trouble is that as soon as this change is made, there will be threads whining about how the quest used to have an interesting puzzle and now is just dumbed down. Just look at all the threads that talk about the old Darth Baras fight!

This is one of those topics that's a little hard for me to pick a side. I sympathize with people who can't get it done because they can't find a group (or don't want to.) I have two toons waiting to complete the missions myself. But the mission would have to be so re-worked, so completely dumbed down, is that a path you really think is a good direction for the game? It was nice when Oricon came out and there were actually bonus quests that required the MBs and SD; or the achievement in the Star Fortresses. But there have been tons of quests using scanners like the MBs and they are always supplied to the player, so story progression really is not blocked by not having these missions done. Given that, I find it hard to justify nerfing the mission.

I'd rather see changes to Activity Finder to make it easier to locate/form a group for these.

They're currently set at a heroic level of difficulty. Keep that, keep the cheevo just for that, and create a solo mode in addition to that which completes the story but doesn't give you a cheevo, or gets you a smaller cheevo, like completing the story mode SFs versus the heroics.

  4. They're not completely irrelevant. Lana and Theron have a conversation about them in the final scene of KOTET, right after the credits roll. They also form much of the impetus for why the Order of Zildrog rises up.

To borrow a quote from another IP, "[The Eternal Alliance's] very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... breeds catastrophe."

I mean, they are as relevant to the story as Star Fortresses, or the entire Dread Masters story line from KP through DP, or the Scions telling us about the Machine Gods of Iokath.

But does your completion of them have any impact on the story? Doing the SF Voss heroic has a marginal impact on Wrath and Ruin, for example.

  5. I understand that Subscribed players should have more benefits, but come on! Not even letting normal players make a suggestion?!

This is a hot button issue on here that always inspires a lot of thinly disguised class elitism i.e "Pshaw! those grubby underclassers will lower the quality of posting in this fine establishment!" But it's also moot for two reasons.

    1) Nobody reads Suggestions anyway, including BW. It should be renamed the Wishful Thinking forum. New Player Help, or even just Bug Reports, would be a lot more useful. But even there it doesn't matter because

    2) the game is on Steam now, and steam has its own forums and guides and community content, and you don't have to be a sub to access that. For all we know, the devs may be interested in reading that stuff. I personally doubt they read anything at all [MAYYYBE Twitter] but eh it's worth a shot.

  6. There certainly is toxicity but a problem is that it's poorly defined.

So a few pointers I have given and been told I was being mean:

    1. Don't use a push back ability when we want to keep the enemies grouped up

    2. After this master mode, you might want to go and play more veterans to get a better grasp at the game

    3. Cleanse the debuff the first boss of hammer station gives...

    4. Read your spec's tree to better understand your class.

    5. Use defensive cooldowns

    6. Don't hit the stunned enemy

None of this is toxic. ofc, we're getting the sanitized forum version of this from the person who got called toxic. Like not to be suspicious but over in pvp there's a thread giving tips on being prepared for ranked, and it all sounds very reasonable...on the forum. In-game the player is apparently infamous for being toxic, but he cleans up well.

One big problem is tone doesn't come across well by text and so you'll get people who are certain that they're being cruelly insulted even though that isn't the intent. And other times it is. There's a tendency to make assumptions about people online, how they're thinking, investing them with emotions based on little evidence.

I can easily see how all of supercomet's points could be read as an attack if they were written a little more directly. Not saying that's the case, or that would be their fault if it was - in pugs I'll write FOCUS ADDS!! USE TAUNT!! or other basic commands because it's urgent and I don't have time to write a paragraph. And most importantly because they aren't doing the obvious already. My guild -and most guilds -uses discord for raids because it's so much easier to communicate clearly through voice than typing.

Or if you told someone all that in ONE pug, lol. No matter how nice you're being, people may still get offended if they think you're acting like you're better than them [even if you are]. Pretty much a guarantee that the worst players who que ranked regularly are much better than I am, but I still don't like to be patronized, especially if it's in chat where everyone can see, not whispers.

The commonality for 'toxicity' that I can see is: x player is either telling y player to do or not do z action, or doing z action directly [like griefing, vote kicking, etc], and y player is offended by z action. That equation applies to supercomet's FP list, it applies to Prum's ranked pvp prerequisites, it fits a lot of situations.

I got called toxic because I told players to unsub because they were upset about a new feature. Presumably, they read emotions into the argument, or they felt threatened by the idea of unsubbing . That's an assumption, they didn't actually TELL ME because they thought I could read their minds, perhaps, and were too busy feeling sorry for themselves. That's another aspect of toxicity: people assume that the "toxic" have way more information than they could credibly have. Second, once you become convinced that you're a victim, it's very easy to sink deeper into a victim mentality such as

The worst part of this, is what you just said " if you get offended by it the problem lies with you", that has being used by hate groups, etc for so long.

There's a difference between victim-blaming or gaslighting people and pointing out that people have options, they are NOT passive victims in need of mods to swoop in and protect them. Personally, I find the comparison with trolls on a videogame forum to hate groups very distasteful. It's like making a godwin, the person who does so clearly has no irl experience with bigotry. Again, an assumption, and reading into text with emotions. We all do it to some extent especially around hot-button or triggering topics, which may not be obvious to other people.

  7. I hope that at the highest reputation rank you'll get a story quest from all three crews that will take you up to the floating barge on all three planets so you can finally meet B4-N9, the droid announcer.

That'd be nice. Had someone recently claiming they'd done all three levels, that the story arcs wrapped up before you got to legend level. I'm on heroic and maxxed weekly rep, but I wasn't subbing when this event originally started. Has anyone else been able to do the third tier of quests?

They really need to add either a quick point node or a way to insta-travel back to the questgiver. So many of the missions require shuttering back and forth to dantooine and there's nothing to be done but manually drive there. That gets old in a hurry. I saw someone here actually defend that as no big deal, lol... Imagine needing to drive to the THORN Spike every time instead of taking a speeder there.

  8. One other thing I did want to say is that I'd actually be down for one last encounter with some incarnation of Vitiate. I always felt the "Vitiate" version of the character came to really jarring and unsatisfying abrupt conclusion on Ziost. And I thought it would be nice to tie both Valkorion and Vitiate together in some sort of epilogue for the character.

My hope is that maybe we'd get to see both Doug Bradly and Darin de Paul back for it. If we see glimpses of his past in the Force or whatever, hearing both of their voices would be a great continuity nod and might help make the transition from one to the other feel more smooth.

It would also be cool if the characters who knew him in his different forms got to interact. For example, Senya and Arcann knew, loved and hated Valkorion for a long time, but they never knew Vitiate and never met Scourge.

I really like this idea, hope it happens.

  9. I think between the resource crises and the saboteurs, this storyline will screw up the factions so badly that their supposed defection will be replaced by a one or two branching storyline as they try to dig themselves out of this mess. idk what the storyline will be [well, i have some crackpot theories] but i'm 99% certain there will be no JK getting called Darth, not in the near future or ever. At best they are dark Jedi anyway.

However, having the option for some characters and, maybe, having the option of walking away from both the Empire and the Republic at the end of the story would be nice.

One theory I have that seems like a high contender is that you walk away from your faction, but not by choice, but because your faction ceases to exist. for awhile, and the opposing faction isn't all that better off. It wouldn't be like kotfe, it's more like "ok, everybody gets consigned to the fringes", with MAYYYBE the big bad being whoever is behind Acina/Vowrawn. Lord of the Dumpster Fire.

  10. Currently waiting myself.

I've read this is becoming an issue since the steam launch.

Are there plans to fix this?

I'm not going to continue to pay as a subscriber to sit in Queue.

Yes sweaty don't worry. I guarantee that BW will do something [or several things at once] so egregiously terrible that it alienates half the playerbase and leads to mass unsubs, thus freeing up the queue for you. BW's behavior is inconsistent on everything except their ability to screw up.

  11. It's not as if you gain anything from keeping your chips instead of betting them, like you would with real money in a casino. There is literally nothing else you can do with Nar Shaddaa Nightlife chips than bet them on the machines.

Hey now, that would be kind of cool though wouldn't it? If smuggler coins could be used for currency to buy stuff on NS and Mek-sha. Not great stuff, like vendor consumables, planet-level armor etc. Kind of similar to the old commendations system. Reminiscent of imperial credits from The Mandalorian show.

It always bugged me that you'd get all these Ziost tokens and the devs expected that you'd shell out credits in addition to buy stuff that simply wasn't worth it. I'm fine with vendors ripping you off as long as they're just ripping you off with tokens, not tokens AND credits.

  12. So, let me just summarise this situation:

A couple of years ago, PvP on most servers (if you're new, we once had many more servers than just the 5 we have now) was very much in decline, and the PvP community was extremely toxic. Premades roflstomped pugs was normal business day in, day out.

BW looked at their metrics and draw several conclusions. At the end, they decided to take away the pressure of winning in PvP, in order to encourage more people to engage in PvP and to relieve some of the most toxic stressful situations.

As a result, PvP got much more active again and has, until recently, popped regularly on all the servers that are left, at least in the level 75 bracket.

One issue that was happening were quitters and AFKers.

The solution that BW introduced now for this issue is to GO BACK to the old system. The system which BW's metrics proved bad. The system that made players not wanting to PvP. The system that drove many players away to other games. The system which led to toxicity, bad behaviour and bad feelings.

I'm at a loss here. Why did they think that this is a good idea? Who makes such decisions? Mr. Kanneg, can you explain to me what you think you will achieve with going back to a state that had HURT this game badly? You know exactly (or maybe you don't?) that we lost a lot of players due to the PvP issues back in the days.

I'm not entering any PvP games as long as it might be that I play 10 hours without getting my weekly - or even daily - done.

BW is going in circles, and surprisingly it always leads to the same outcomes.

good post. Now, that's a good critique of the change from points to wins, but what about the deserter lockout? We didn't have that before.

  13. tbh he is being nice to him. I have seen much worse and useless VKs then this. This is actually an example where VK worked as it should have all IMO

The forum is heavily policed so we all have to watch our words more carefully. If the forum was as casual as it is in-game, the tone would likely be different, judging from "conversations" I've had in-game with ranked players. For that matter, if the forum was more like the game, there's a few players just in this thread I'd love to give some direct feedback to.
