  1. regardless, they will continue to get mileage out of companions as time goes by and just know that when bioware says, "limited time offer" they are like the home shopping guy trying to sell a sword...its limited this time...and next time they offer it it will be limited, too, and so forth each time.

This right here is a key point: it's not a new tactic. Not for BW, not for companies in general. A limited time offer means it's an offer open for a set period of time, yes, but it's not like they say it will "never" be back and even if they did, it's not a contract. The mentality in this thread is similar to a gold text advertising something like a new species coming out, and the forum latching on to it like it's a written agreement that BW must produce in a certain period of time. They've learned to keep their plans vague because obsessive elements on the playerbase can't be trusted not to freak out over a misplaced word here or there.

tl;dr: the big corporation was not 100% honest and straightforward about its promotions? Imagine that! This is literally the first time I have heard of this because it never happens in the real world! The free market is usually so fair and upfront what's going on my world is collapsing...

  2. iirc they said in the livestream that they plan to do QOL later in the year to balance amplifiers. Maybe this will be included in that.

It's easy enough to understand. The amplifiers are 'purely' random.

And yes, it would be easier to just make them all purely random, rather than add more possible bugs by trying to make separate lists for each item. You might call it 'lazy' - I call it 'resource management'. 🙂

    And many things haven't backfired.

Ge over yourself. "BW didn't do what I suggested, wah, wah, wah." Maybe BW knows things - such as what the engine can handle, what brings in the most subs, etc, that you're just not aware of. 🙄

    😂

Wow, I just got this amazing feeling of deja vu. Picture it: It's August 2015 and the usual forum elites are busily inventing convoluted explanations for why we will never get legacy datacrons, why this makes incredible business and programming sense, and why people are entitled for asking, BW knows what they're doing etc etc.

Not long after that, 4.0 dropped and BW made datacrons legacy bound. The moral of the story being that BW doesn't need you to cheerlead for them because past precedent shows that needlessly pointless 'features' like wrong class amps on mods that they can't use are accidents in the process of being fixed (albeit slowly) and not part of some grand design.

  3. Yes, these rewards they're clamoring over are mostly garbage anyway. ofc, it's not about the quality of the items as much as it is the exclusivity of them and the privilege of being a have while others are have-nots.

Let me take the opportunity to say how much I enjoy playing Shroud of Memory, though tbh the story was not worth all the hype, nor were the comps. It was probably not worth 3800 CC. No, what I enjoy about it is the tears of subs who didn't want me to ever play it because BW supposedly promised it to THEM, exclusively and in perpetuity, and even several years after the fact they're still jealously guarding their shinies.

  4. Once again no consideration for those of us that already have Shae.

Where is our reward for this promotion huh?

I've given up with this. They have made it abundantly clear that old subscribers are not not important, except for the money. While happy that those that don't have her have a chance, but sad that those that do, are ignored again..

Yes it's a slap in the face!! :rak_01:

lol jk. IDC about the flair, my "sub reward" is the schadenfreude experienced from this moment right here.

  5. Also, "Utter madness" is a completely *useless* thread title. It conveys *nothing* about the actual subject matter.

Heck, it could just as easily be a rant worthy of the Off-Topic subforum about the memory consumption of the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. (Er, yesterday evening, it touched 17 GB...)

But if it were really useless, you wouldn't have clicked on it. Ergo, titles dont have to be informative, just provide a hook. In this case the hook is a vague complaint [which is the forum's #1 export]. The next time you make a thread, write the title in binary and see how many views it gets.

  6. Without me being a dev, I can almost state for certain this is NA servers only as both Satele Shan and Star Forge are affected.

If you run a tracert, you will most likely see a similar number on your end around the last couple hops:

    8 83 ms 83 ms 81 ms 4.79.23.202

    9 87 ms 92 ms 87 ms 159.153.92.10

    10 374 ms 90 ms 86 ms 159.153.92.86

    11 88 ms 90 ms 87 ms starwarstheoldrepublic.com [159.153.92.41]

I am intrigued to see that NO ONE from Support or the DEVs have even answered us. This is amazing :(

    The devs are aware.

  7. Yeah it's especially stupid when you consider that vanilla had VA flavor dialogue for every NPC questgiver that changed between accepting and completing the quest AND separate dialogue for [Refuse quest]. It kinda reminds me of Obsidian pissing away money on irrelevant details most players would never see in kotor2 and then, oops, they forgot to include an ending.

I think some of it might have been lack of imagination too. Rusk comes to mind - iirc he doesn't go anywhere by himself, he just sits around whining about space quakers. What they should have done was ensure quests for ALL first comps as well as for ALL romance options, even if you weren't romancing them. So, if you're a guy and you can't romance Doc, you can still do his comp quest. Most of the comps who aren't the first ones you get or romances are pretty terrible with a few exceptions like Scourge or Guss.

  8. My conclusion is it’s not the servers causing this or the Bioware network, it’s 100% the US internet backbone crapping it’s self. Which could be any number of reasons.

They should really move the servers to a more stable country. I don't want this game to end because the servers get fried as a hazard of being hosted in some 3rd world backwater.

  9. I wasn't able to complete tat pubside mission with the militia, the clickie never lit up. It's a Known Issue iirc. A similar problem happens on tat impside, the clickie for the sand people poison dispenser doesn't click. Also Taris pubside, sometimes you'll do mola haxtor's nekghoul quest before you do the breadcrumb mission [rakghoul camera], and it breaks the quest circuit.

The nature of bugs is that they don't happen to everyone. So you saying you had no problem with x does not mean there is no problem, just there is no problem FOR YOU.

  10. There's a few FPs I've never done because of their restrictive nature, like the rakghoul FPs. Can't pug for them. I'd like to see the stories but tbh, I doubt there's a lot of story to them.

These do not. Hammer Station, Athis, Mando Raiders, Cademimu, Colicoid War Games, Red Reaper, Kaon, Lost Island, KDY, Czerka Corporate Labs and Czerka Core Meltdown. I think it is perfectly reasonable to ask for solo modes of these remaining flashpoints, and I also think it's perfectly reasonable for new players to want to see those short stories at least once.

If there's as much story in Kaon/Lost Island as there is in KDY or the Czerka FPs, then I don't need to do the FPs. In fact, except for the breadcrumb cutscenes with Malgus, none of the others have much story content either. Do we really need solo versions of them? If you want to see the story in HS or Athiss so badly, bite the bullet and pug for it. It's not as if spacebarring makes much difference inside the FP.

OTOH, if devs want to make solo versions, I have no objection. Before solo FPs came out, this forum [as usual] was rife with conservative types who thought that solo FPs would destroy pug queues. The lesson here is to be extremely skeptical whenever the forum makes a claim or prediction about behavior in the game, because the status quo extremists are still around, they've just moved on to other things. As evidenced by the fact that the first dozen or so posts in this thread were players telling the OP it was their own fault they got kicked, lol.

  11. In early June, shortly after things things became very exciting in the US (for someone who doesn't live there), I bought a game bundle with 1000 indie games on it through this virtue-signalling site. $5...1000 games. Now, you might turn your nose up at many of these games, fair enough. Through Steam summer sales, I also have around 20 games that I have never played, including Jade Empire, Baldur's Gate II, Deus Ex, Fallouts 1-3 and so on. Just sitting there.

IRL, I'm a grad student, and I work a couple part-time jobs. Oh, I also have several dozen recommended tv shows to go through (Our Boys? Messiah? Agents of SHIELD?) as well as a few classics (SG1, Fringe, Carnivale). And pandemic aside (it's not so bad outside the US) I have friends and a social life and exercising and new books and....

So, I rarely ask myself the question that OP asks, and which comes up on this forum 50 times a year. "Is the game dying?" As others have noted, the question has been asked since beta ffs. But if the game ended in Jan 2021, that would be okay. I would be sad but not devastated because, you know, I don't depend on this game for my sole source of entertainment. I feel bad for players on this forum [presumably there's a lot of them] who have no life beyond swtor.

    Well. I guess I don't feel that bad. :rak_03:

  12. Much of it depends upon what you consider a "grind". Some people consider it a grind to have to run around all 4 bases every time you want to score a run, in baseball. 😂

I have to say, I thought the analogy of this game to a fast food restaurant was the silliest real world comparison I've ever seen, but this is a masterstroke of irrelevancy. No, grinding in an MMO is not comparable to running bases in baseball, just like paying a sub is not the same as ordering a taco.

  13. There may be other things that would need to be addressed, but there are valid reasons why one would want to take advantage of not being bothered by the local population of angry beings while passing through on account of being of high level, but on a non-permanent basis.

Valid, completely obvious reasons that I guess we don't need to describe at all, lol.

I was doing the macrobinoculars mission on tat as a 75 pub character. at one point i took a shortcut through an imperial outpost. Figured I'd die but actually survived through comp heals / unity / heroic moment. So what else you got?
