  1. if you do not plan to run SLI you should cut your power supply wattage in half. get a branded 450-500 watt pcu, dont be a fool. if you do not believe me, go search for a proper wattage spreadsheets out there and do the math by yourself. the rig you describe will never pull over 400 watt from the outlet.

So he should only have a 50w buffer? Sorry, but bad advice is bad.

  2. I prefer my AMD 1055T, but I was considering using a intell for my next build, if money allows.

The 1055T preforms great for me, I had it up to 3.4ghz but backed it back down to 2.8 because I honestly have no problems with it at stock clocks.

    The 1055T is $50 less.

And it performs like it's $100 less...

  3. SSD? Meh.

I would rather go with 2 7200 RPM 500G WD HDD's and run them in raid over a single tiny SSD.

I have well over 120 giggs of stuff on one of my HDD, not counting my games.

All my games are installed to a 640GB WD Black drive, except for SWTOR which is on my SSD with my OS.

A SSD is the one computer upgrade you can make that positively affects just about everything in your computer.

If you think SSDs are "meh" than you haven't actually used one day in and day out.

Oh, and RAID for a home desktop is dumb.

  4. Since i dont planned to buy a new computer, ive tried to hold down the price abit. But will this do it, or is there anything i should change? (mostly thinking of the gpu). Since i havnt built a computer in ages, i really would like some support.

    MSI P67A-G45 REV B3

    Intel Core i5 2500K 3,3GHz

    Corsair 8GB (2x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE

    650W

    GeForce GTX 560Ti 1024MB OC

    Intel SSD 120gb

So any idea / suggestions would been nice to see. Or will this hold for swtor and be able to upgrade abit in the future?

The only thing i havnt doubble checket is the RAM.

On a second note, the GPU was almost abit over what i wanted to pay, so nothing more expensive then that.

This is pretty similar to my system:

    2600k

    ASUS P8P67 PRO

    8GB Corsair Vengeance

    AMD 6870s in Crossfire (disabled)

    120GB Intel X-25M SSD

The game ran better in beta, but I still runs well. Everything on high (except AA on low) at 1920x1200 and I'm normally around 60-70 fps.

  5. A black and white morality system -- where act A is 'good,' but act B is a 'no-no' -- does not equate to the force, and never has. That is why the dark side is tied more to emotional output than to set-in-stone actions. Murder is a bad act, but what if you kill to save, or kill to defend, or even kill for (what you believe to be) a righteous cause? It's easy to sit back and wash our hands of a situation and be like 'oh, well that's evil,' but the force is more concerned with attachment/detachment than it is about doing a body count and then pointing fingers. One man's murder is another man's justice, and the force has much more to do with a person's emotional state during the act than the act itself.

I came across quite a few quests/conversations where the "light" path seemed the more evil.

  6. If you don't do space combat or pvp, you really can't skip them or you will not level properly. But there are times when I wish I could...

Not true. I only did a few of the lower level space combat missions, did minimal PVP (I'm only valor rank 9), skipped most of the flashpoints and I still had no problems getting to 50 before I finished Corellia.

And I only did the bonus series on 2 or 3 planets.

  7. In my desktop I have an SSD (120GB Intel X25-M), it's my boot drive and SWTOR is installed to it. My load times are generally around 20 seconds.

Now back in beta, my load times were less than 10 seconds...

Now my laptop has a 1.8" drive and the load times on it are 2+ minutes, but that's because the HD is horribly slow.

  8. Alright, I'm at work but I had this conversation last night with a friend and I think I remember the Specs

    ATI Radeon 5900 Series x2

Intel i7 Core x8 or something

    and somelike Array0.

You are right by the way It should last more than 2 years definately. I also got this Alienware through my work company, not for free.. but cheapish monthly payments.

    What i'm worried about is;

I'm scared to turn my computer off, because sometimes when It needs to be restarted and I try to turn it back on, It gets stuck on the Loading screen to load up the start scripts and gets stuck for hours and doesnt fix. Where then I repetitively have to turn the socket, on and off to try and see if it loads each time, most of the time it doesnt but After 10-40 tries It could work. It's very worrying, I dont turn my computer off anymore, I just put it to sleep...

Your computer should be more than capable of playing this game well and at medium to high settings.

Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties.

Report back what you see there for:

    Windows Edition

    Processor

    RAM

    System Type

Assuming that is all fine then the first thing I would do is a fresh install of Windows. If you don't already have Win7 64-bit buy a OEM copy for ~$100. Worse comes to worse, if you still need to buy a new computer you can always use this license with the new one your friend is building.

Prior to re-installing Windows download the latest drivers for all your hardware. This might not necessarily mean downloading them from Dell but direct from the part manufacturer- this is especially the case for your video card driver.

If you have a friend who is capable of building you a computer than he should have done all this for you already.

  9. I currently have an Alienware Area 51-ALX Basic Desktop that was a bit.. overpriced,

Its starting to show its age after only 2 years

There is absolutely no reason why a 2-year old Alienware shouldn't still be working just fine...

BTW - If you bought it 2 years ago it was after Dell's acquisition. While more expensive than building your own (what pre-built gaming computer is any different?) you most likely did not pay through the nose for it.

While building a computer is relatively easy I cringe when all the do-it-yourselfers come out of the woodwork and start bashing pre-built computers. Not everyone wants to deal with the hassle of building their own computer and they want a support number to call when something isn't working right. There is nothing wrong with that.

FWIW - I build my own computers but there is a reason I don't build them for friends/family anymore.

OP, check the Dell Outlet - http://www.dell.com/content/segmenter.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dfo There are always deals to be had and you can add online coupons. You just have to check frequently as the inventory is always changing. You can find i7 2600k systems on there for less than $500 with 8GB of RAM and a decent videocard. I challenge anyone here to build a solid 2600k rig for less than $500
