TOR is really a good game, a great one even.
grueber replied to Angedechu's topic in General Discussion
It's much easier to tone down difficulty then it is to increase difficulty. No way to put the genie back in the bottle in terms of level/loot. Believe it or not this game was even easier in beta. In late beta they upped the difficulty of the mobs after you got past 20 and I could not believe the QQ going on. There are some seriously casual players who ride the short bus apparently. -
Low pop server chars are forced to go to planets under leveled.

It's Balmorra --->Tatooine ---> Alderaan You go to Tat? -
Anyone think it's a coincidence that ops are max 16 people? lol.

Nah. There are so many planet quests there is even a bonus series I never need. Most people stay on planets way too long in terms of getting max xp/loot for their level. Now the planets being incredibly boring because of the lack of players to do planet heroics and the overall feeling of an empty game... yeah those are problems. -
Vanilla WoW. EQ1.

Failed? Hello?

This may be news to you, but there have been other MMOs released where a significant chunk of the player population doesn not hit max level in less than a month and exhausts available endgame content in less than 2 months.

Electronic Gaming Monthly gives SWTOR 9/10

Hey now you need something to do while doing the #2. -
My sniper is currently 30. I have 48 vanguard and 47 marauder. Also played a merc to 48 in late beta and jk/consular/sorc to the mid 30s. How effective a sniper is is heavily dependent on the PVP layout and where you setup. On huttball it's hilarious how ineffective melee are against me because I setup next to a fire pit or at the edge of the ramp and never leave cover. They can't harpoon/jump me so they have to run up being exposed the entire time. Depending on how much of a threat they are I have the option to entrench and render myself immune to their cc/knockbacks while they remain vulnerable to all of mine. Many a melee have either been blown off and forced to walk back to me or burn in the fire. The one annoying class are stealthers but they are squishy just like you are. Sorcs/consulars can be annoying especially the heal-specced ones. I try to wait until they are engaged before unloading on them and disrupting their long-cast heal. On Voidstar I hug a wall, usually the pillar next to the capture door as the defender or far off to the side as the attacker. Alderaan is my least favorite as a sniper as you have to move around alot and there are not of environmental obstacles to use. You can use the LOS issues that plague us to our benefit. Like I mentioned above I always try to hug a wall/corner so I can quickly duck behind if I'm getting focused fired.

I outfit myself and companions with blues if possible and am aggressive about keeping gear up to date while leveling. Kaliyo is useless IMO. She's useless because while she wears heavy armor and can use a shield, she lacks the ability of a tank stance that gives the 60% armor boost. Having played a vanguard and jedi knight there is a huge difference in damage mitigation between the tank and non-tank stance. She has plenty of taunt abilities but a sniper can't heal. I have no reliable way of peeling mobs off her if she is in danger of dying. I dumped her and started to use the melee dps companion you acquire next. Does alot more damage and you can bounce aggro between each other.

State of the game in my raiding guild: Concerned

It's also bad for replay when every single class is chained to the same world progression. -
Logitech G500 just for gaming in general.

Electronic Gaming Monthly gives SWTOR 9/10
grueber replied to Jett-Rinn's topic in General Discussion
Most of the magazine reviews are highly suspect. I subscribe to PC Gamer and a suspiciously high number of AAA releases get a 93/100. I trust an aggregate review site like Metacritic alot more. -
This the same engine they use for Duke Nukem?
-
Yeah and you had to run naked to where you died. Naked and totally visible to any mobs.

People were not deserting WoW for lack of things to do 2-3 months after launch.
-
EQ1 was not the joke of leveling experience that swtor is. I too was there. The harsh death penalty and forced grouping provided a hardcore gaming experience. People were not QQ about being 60 with nothing to do for a LONG time because it took forever to get to 60. Bioware totally miscalculated how long the current content would keep players interested. If swtor does not want to go the raid endgame route fine. I think people are looking for a differently experience. So exactly what endgame experience does swtor provide that is unique? That's the problem.

Most ridiculous argument ever. When vanilla WoW was released servers were not emptying out like rats on a sinking ship 2-3 months after release. Is there a better measurement of a player being dissatisfied with a game then unsubscribing? I guess we'll have to wait for the next quarterly report to come out to see the official numbers. Anyone who still logs on regularly can see with his/her own eyes.

Lack of End Game: Is BW reacting quick enough?
grueber replied to Clyric's topic in General Discussion
They sure are quick at closing threads that don't float their boat. Be nice if they cranked out content and features as fast. -
Yeah that's a real optimal MMO experience.

Except in WoW you have the option of LFD.

The question of the month: Will you keep your subscription up? and why?
grueber replied to Nasq's topic in General Discussion
All of Bioware hits have been of the single player variety. At least Blizzard had experience making multiplayer games like Warcraft/Starcraft and especially Diablo. Diablo gave Blizzard the opportunity to create a light RPG world that was mutiplayer and focused on repetitive play for loot. If ME3 comes through I'll be happy. -
I did find the marauder story the best out of the trooper and BH. Playing a Light-sided marauder the choices were actually good, especially in Belsavis. I did pick the evil choice at the end; couldn't help myself.

Rolling need for a companion is like rolling need for a twink. It's not something I would do. It's wrong in my book. If you want to set the ground rules for loot as FFA then go ahead. Just be upfront with the rest of the group.
