"Launcher is being updated. Please wait"

I talked with the team with all of the information you have put in the thread.

That's great to hear! One thing I didn't mention yet but that may be important is that when I updated my launcher, it only updated to D1.0.18, not to D2.0.1.

Per EA_Kipling's post here, I had to manually delete the patcher2014.version and patcher2017.version files to force the launcher to update to D2.0.1.

The thing is that the D1.0.18 executable is signed with the old certificate which will expire soon. I'm not sure why my launcher did not patch to D2.0.1, but if other players have the same issue like me and don't manually patch to D2.0.1, they may be unable to use the launcher when the certificate expires. I guess you could still use the Launcher Repair Utility then to avoid a redownload, but my own experience matches what Andryah wrote, that utility is pretty buggy.

Edit: If it helps, these are my launcher logs from the initial update:

Hey folks,

We suspect that some of you who are still unable to get into the launcher are dealing with a Windows Certificate issue. We are looking into possible solutions for those of you who are having that issue, especially on older OS such as XP and Vista.

I will pass on more information as I have it.

Hello Eric.

(Excuse me, my English ist very bad)

These are good News (I have Vista) but what about the Players who had already uninstalled the Game to reinstall it?

After the download of the Game files from the Homepage and the following new installation, the error message appears which is already known by the repair program.

"Windows Certificate issue"

The game can not be re-installed at this time.

Please remember to provide a new installation program in addition to the repair program so that the game can be reinstalled.

Thanks for that possible workaround IntegrationArch, I will give that a shot.

Some info for the dev looking at this problem:

I inspected the launcher.exe Digital Signatures:

Signer:

-VeriSign

--Symantec Class 3 SHA256 Code Signing CA

---Electronic Arts, Inc.

Countersigner:

-Thawte Timestamping CA

--Symantec Time Stamping Services CA - G2

---Symantec Time Stamping Services Signer - G4

I think my Windows Vista is puking on the countersignature, the digital signature

of this object did not verify.

I found some Verisign certs at symantec.com and some Thawte certs at thawte.com,

installed them using MMC.

thawte_Primary_Root_CA-G4_DSA.pem would not import.

Each thawte cert has a test link with it. The G4 test failed in Firefox with:

Secure Encryption failed. Cannot communicate securely with peer:

no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_nocypher_overlap)

The test site is: https://ssltest41.ssl.symclab.com/

Looking at the certs Subject's Public Key Algorithm/Algorithm Identifier and

Certificate Signature Algorithm, I see the primary root and -G3 have

PKCS #1 RSA Encryption

PKCS #1 SHA-1 With RSA Encryption

Verisign class 3 has

PKCS #1 RSA Encryption

PKCS #1 MD2 With RSA Encryption

The -G4 has

ANSI X9.57 DSA Signature

Object Identifier (2 16 840 1 101 3 4 3 2)

It seems possible that some computers cannot handle thawte's countersignature. Microsoft has a list of object IDs that correspond to algorithms, but this number is not in the list. There is one that is close however:

2.16.840.1.101.3.4.1.2 is 128 bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with cipher-block chaining mode of operation. Does the G4 countersignature have the wrong object id? How does it work for other people then?

Anyway, good luck.

Hey folks,

I apologize for the silence today I didn't mean to leave you hanging! I talked with the team with all of the information you have put in the thread and there are a few steps we want to ensure you go through.

If you are experiencing this issue and you are running the game on WinXP, there may be a separate issue. The team is looking into that now.

If after doing the above you are still not working, please run the launcher.diag.exe file located in your SWTOR directory. You can send the logs to communitysupport@swtor.com.

Thanks everyone.

None of the proposed workarounds have worked for me. If I try using the old launcher with the added line in the settings to prohibit self update it does nothing at all but hang in the back ground and tell me that only one instance of the program can run at a time. Updating with the new launcher gets me the certificate error. I don't dare delete and reinstall the game because who know what new and exciting problems THAT would cause.

That is a very old problem. Check taskman to see if it's running a few times.

Yeah, I know. I make sure to go in and close down the hanging launcher. Still, trying it after closing the hanging launcher just creates a new hanging launcher that never even opens other than the "run as administrator" dialog.

And here I thought when I got home from work some 14 hours after this thing started I would be able to play.

How very silly of me

Very. Here's hoping that something good happens tomorrow... but I'm not going to bank on it.

I had the same effect, until I deleted (renamed, to be safe) /patch and /bitraider folders. Ran 1.8.2 launcher again, made sure the settings file stops it from patching, and it worked.

I'm on Linux, not sure /patch and /bitraider folder thing would work on Windows.

It's a temporary fix but at least I can log into the game until it's permanently sorted out.

How did you make it stop from patching the new launcher? I am using Wine as well on my Mac and the game worked perfectly until the new launcher patch.
