I agree it's kinda silly, but that is how the devs made the game. The fact that it doesn't make sense visually or to the lore doesn't matter, mechanically they are a melee class. Kelleth Posted March 13, 2015 Share Posted March 13, 2015 Well, in the Star Wars universe, you have to remember that using a Blaser Pistol or Rifle beyond 5 meters to hit anything is kind of hard to do... In fact, judging by all of the movies and stuff, anyone using either of these weapons wouldn't be able to hit the sea, even if they were drowing in it. Are you just learning the game? New to MMOs? You might want to search around for some guides. There are a bunch of sites (Dulfy is a great place to start) that will go over some of the basics of the game and MMOs in general. One of these is understanding your class design and noting the ranges where you do the most damage. While it may seem confusing to people who haven't played video games much, the appearance of your character doesn't really dictate your damage or defense. Simply wearing huge armor doesn't guarantee that you are better protected. Simply using a rifle doesn't mean that you're a long range class. It's confusing to inexperienced players, I know. Thats one of the reasons the classes that are like that are my least favorite classes. I know some like it but it's just not appealing to me both in game play and visually. If you were a painter and someone handed you a pencil would you start making only pencil art? Or would you use the pencil to help with your planning but still do most of your art with paint? If you were a knife-fighting specialist and someone gave you a rifle, would you hide behind rocks and shoot at people or continue using your knife for most situations and just use the rifle when it suited you? A blaster is the most challenging weapon in the galaxy (and also the accompanying dwarf galaxies like Rishi Maze). I therefore agree that pistol = melee. Sure, it could be used from distance as well, but it's not like you could hit a womp rat with it. If you want to use a blaster properly, it needs to be used within 5 meter range. Jeweledleah Posted March 13, 2015 Share Posted March 13, 2015 So if someone handed you a gun, you'd use it as a melee weapon? lololololol video game =/= real life. you'd think that existence of magical powers, the fact that slave girl outfit has as much armor as fully armored mandalorian set, the fact that you can sprint without stopping and never get tired, functional space ships, fictional worlds etc etc - should have tipped you off to that. if we judged range of a character based on weapon they have in their hand, then sorcs are apparently melee. even though they are anything but and don't even use they sabers other then in blocking animation.
