  1. Honestly, I doubt an OC would have provided the performance bump you were seeking. Even a modest OC would only yield a 2-4 frames per second improvement. You would still be dipping below 60 fps at times. An OC would just reduce the number of times it drops below 60 over a measured period of time. Have you tried disabling shadows or recording on a low pop server where there are less players to impact performance? There are also some planets that you will want to avoid since they tend to have fps issues due to poor optimization of the game code. I know Quesh and Belsavis are both notorious for horrible framerates while visiting those planets.
  2. And I think that takes a backseat simply because EA/Bio doesn't have the resources to overhaul a game engine. What the OP is asking for is basically to dump the existing game engine and designed a new one to replace it. Which is exactly how Sqeenix saved FF14 when they relaunched as a Realm Reborn. When Square set out to replace the game engine in FF14 they were beginning with an engine they had developed specifically for the game. They already had a division of the company that was fully staffed with the resources needed to develop a game engine. EA/Bio licensed a game engine from another company (one that was still in beta, I might add) then customized it heavily for their game. Once the customization of the engine was complete, the resources that went into that aspect of the game were redistributed within the companies. To expect EA/Bio to be able to do the same thing Sqeenix did, is a bit of a reach in my opinion because they do not have the expertise or resources that are required to fully develop a game engine on their own. There is no need to even evaluate the risk vs reward of a project when the company clearly lacks the resources to do the project.
  3. The event was poorly conceived, of this there is little doubt. It is optional though and expecting to just be handed the rewards without participating in the event while it's live is just entitled foolishness in my opinion.
  4. Toxicity is something I've encountered in every gaming forums that isn't severely moderated. What I've learned over the years is the only thing you can really control in this regard, is how you respond and react to their behavior.
  5. I found my missing characters! In my absence I either forgot that the character selection screen has multiple pages of characters, or the UI has been updated and I didn't notice the arrows to move between pages and kept trying to scroll down to find the rest of my characters. I flit back and forth between so many MMOs it's hard to keep them all straight in my head and I sometimes get UI features for one game mixed up with another for a day or two when I switch back to one I haven't played in a long time.
  6. Is there any kind of activity log either in game or online that I may not be aware of that might indicate how or when a player character was deleted? I just resubbed after a year away thinking now might be a decent time to catch on up on the story, but I noticed something odd after logging in for the first time in nearly a year. Basically, several of my characters are missing. I know I leveled a couple of Jedi to 60 and a Bounty Hunter to 60 during the last 12xp event. However, I no longer have credit for those class stories and I don't have those characters on my account any longer. All of my other level 60s are all right where I left them a year ago. There doesn't appear to be anything missing from any of them that might indicate my account was hacked, and I've had an authenticator attached the whole time as well, so I'm confident it wasn't a hack. I just don't remember deleting these characters and can't even be certain if they are missing or I just deleted them a year ago and forgot. On the bright side though, I guess this means I won't run out of things to do for a while.
  7. Technically, all you need to be a programmer is Notepad and an internet connection.
  8. He actually linked some decent articles. None of the articles are anti-upgrade or misinformation. They simply provide lists of considerations a user should be aware of before they upgrade so they can make the decision with more grounded expectations.
  9. The part of my post you didn't quote made similar points. I just didn't feel like explaining the technical jargon and dumbed it down a bit more.
  10. It's quite rare. I only know of 1 game that succeeded with this type of change, and it was a very special situation. Final Fantasy XIV had an initial launch that will always be remembered as an abysmal failure. The game had a good enough engine performance-wise, but the game mechanics and combat systems had critical failures that resulted from poor decisions made when designing the game engine. They made the game free to play and took the game back to the drawing board with a completely new dev team and one of the first decisions made was to replace the game engine. However, it's important to note that the first launch of the game had a game engine the studio had built in-house specifically for the game. The engine that replaced it was also designed in-house, so it was fairly easy for them to design a new engine that included most to all of the original features, but with significant improvements and extensions. This allowed them to pull the old engine and plug in a new one rather easily. There was another MMO that used a third party engine in the same fashion that SWTOR does that attempted this type of engine replacement, but 7 years later there were still working on the project with no end in sight. I can't remember the name of that game for the life of me. Suffice it to say thought, that an engine replacement for SWTOR is most likely never going to happen.
  11. I've had zero issues since upgrading to Windows 10. As long as you are sure there are new drivers for all of your hardware components, then I see no reason to delay. A friend of mine who has a 5 year old HP laptop encountered a few issues because there hasn't been a new driver release for his integrated graphics chipset or his integrated sound device since Windows 7, but the upgrade still went very smooth for him. He just had to manually install the Windows 7 drivers and then manually choose them for the devices in Device Manager.
  12. Anything by Volbeat. They have 3 albums now and all of them are great.

  14. I haven't seen this question asked yet, so I must breach the subject... What is your cooling solution? Are you using the stock Intel HSF, after-market air cooler, AIO closed-loop water cooler, or custom loop water cooling? Your cooling solution is pivotal as the first step to a successful overclock. Overclocking results in significant increases to the amount of heat the cpu will generate and without adequate cooling you will fry that new chip. If you need help with your overclock. I highly recommend the following forum groups. This first link is a group dedicated to Haswell-E chip owners. http://www.overclock.net/t/1510388/haswell-e-overclock-leaderboard-owners-club This second link is a group dedicated to your motherboard. This is probably where you will get the best information about how to overclock your specific hardware. http://www.overclock.net/t/1511496/official-msi-x99s-a-motherboard-owners-club Many of the regular users in these forums are extreme overclockers using custom water loops to achieve the most cutting edge performance available from their hardware. As with any website though, there are a number of misinformed users, so please be careful of which users you take advice from. There are many other useful guides to help teach new users about overclocking in a more general sense, but when you are ready to perform an overclock on your hardware, I highly recommend getting help from users who have the same hardware. Every motherboard is different for how you achieve your overclock. Some boards are incredibly easy and only require a few settings to be changed in the BIOS, while other boards can be more complex. If you are patient though and do your research, it's not too difficult to get the overclock that you want to run stable.
  15. There isn't a single game on the market right now that benefits one iota from DX12. In order for DX12 to have any impact upon any game, the game must support the DX12 API. A game that only supports earlier versions of DirectX receives zero improvements from having the DX12 API available on your computer. The following is a quote directly from the same article you linked. Now I won't try to tell you that you didn't notice a performance increase after upgrading to Windows 10, but I can assure you, DX12 had absolutely nothing to do with it. For the type of improvements you are claiming to have observed, I would suspect you had some file fragmentation or possibly even non-critical data corruption within your windows installation that was causing loading screens and other processes to take longer than they should have prior to your OS upgrade. The upgrade simply repaired those issues. Windows 10 is faster than it's predecessors in many ways, but not remarkably so. Most of the improvements the new OS provides can really only be observed when analyzing benchmark data.
  16. This is one of the new features of Windows 10 that is a bit controversial. It's not just handing your wifi password to anybody and everybody though. By default it only shares the encrypted password with people you have in your Contacts app and only for networks you have indicated can be shared. It only shares with people you are friends with on Facebook if you opt in for that feature. The service is on by default, but the networks are not configured for sharing by default. So even if you do nothing after installing Windows 10, it won't share your WiFi password until the user does some basic setup. It's also important to understand that the way it shares the password actually still maintains some security. It doesn't just hand off the password to your Contacts, it encrypts the password so that the computer used by someone who receives the shared password is able to log into and access your wifi, however, they can not view the password or share it with anyone else. The entire feature can be disabled after installing Windows 10 though, which I recommend doing. The risks this feature presents are manageable if you manage your contacts well, but I feel it assumes too much about how users are already using the Contacts app available in Windows. The WiFi Sense service should be disabled by default instead of enabled, and when it is enabled, there should be something in Contacts to either allow or disallow the password from being shared with individual contacts or groups of individual contacts. These 2 changes would greatly improve the feature and all it to be used with a manageable amount of risk. The biggest risk that comes with this new feature though, is when you allow someone to access your wireless network and they configure the network and WiFi Sense service to share the password with the people in their contacts. Microsoft didn't give users many options on how to control this, but there is a way to configure your wireless routers to be ignored by WiFi Sense. Here is a link to an article that describes how to disable this new feature and also how to configure your router to prevent others from sharing your password after they are given access. http://www.redmondpie.com/disable-wi-fi-sense-password-sharing-in-windows-10-heres-how/
  17. His gpu is definitely bottlenecked on the cpu. A 2700k simply can't keep up with a Titan X. My 4.7 GHz 2600k has bottlenecked a GTX 770 during benchmarks, so I see no reason to deny that a Titan X risks being bottlenecked on a stock 2700k. But this game doesn't need a lot of gpu power, so that isn't really an issue here. I still think that cpu has enough power, even at stock speeds, for this game though. I'd be curious to see the full hardware profile of the rig. I think it's more likely he has a mid-tier mobo that is either locked into a slow internal bus speed, or has a bios that uses default settings that prevent full utilization of the available bus. Even with the bad engine this game uses, there is no reason to say this game requires a Haswell cpu to run well. Edit: Especially when you consider there are a number of threads here and in the technical support forum where people with good Haswell cpus are having the same exact problem as the OP.

  19. This is myth. http://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-windows-10-will-not-be-sold-as-a-subscription/
  20. You almost never want to use guard on a healer. While healers build threat on every mob during a pull, the amount of threat they generate is significantly reduced. The only time a healer should pull aggro at all, is if nobody else has hit the mob. So simply hitting the mob just once will almost always ensure that the healer doesn't get aggro. About the only time you should ever use Guard on a healer, is in PVP.
  21. Everyone who has upgraded to Windows 10 should check their Antivirus programs to ensure they are still working. My BitDefender Internet Security 2015 was disable as part of the upgrade. There is a new version of the product available from BitDefender, but I had to run an uninstall utility and then download and install the new version. From what I've read online, many of the other AV products are having similar scenarios.
  22. The drivers that are included are most likely ok to use without issues. However, nVidia released a new driver yesterday evening that I would recommend using instead.
  23. Here is the link to begin the upgrade process for anyone that needs it. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows10 This link provides instructions on how to perform the upgrade and also allows for easy creation of USB or DVD installation media.
