The Super Secret Space Project is revealed... or at least teased!

I am happy to know that they are still developing space combat, because the one we have now sucks to put it lightly.

If they do it right it could get a lot of players to the game because it will be only mmo out there with both ground and space combat. I hope they will do it right and not mess it up as half done space thingies.

Actually, I would rather they speak loud and clear on it now. That will squash all the overhype.

Exactly.

However, even when BW has spelled things out in the past there are those who choose to ignore it and project their own unrealistic/outlandish expectations on the game then complain when it doesn't come to pass.

Hell ,look at all the people who complained about the lack of sandbox/swg features after launch, despite BW clearly outlining the game would be a combat based MMO with an emphasis on story.

True space combat would probably also bring back a lot of the people who gave up on this game, as SWTOR hasn't really been making much of a buzz. There were a lot of people who wanted it badly but it never came.

I remember when it was revealed space combat was a tunnel shooter. Oh boy. edit: Hell I even have a PC Gamer magazine on that somewhere here.

Uhh you actually think this is just gonna be space pvp scenario and only 2-3? Think real hard about what you just said. Bioware has most likely been working on this for well over a year. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in development near release as well. So that's almost 2 years working on this just for 2-3 pvp space scenario's? Nah that's totally way off. lol

It's ALOT more than that man. This is gonna be a major expansion pack as well, not just a patch. Also I'm bettin this is just a really really really short tease and it's still has alot to be completed and won't be out for almost another 1/2 a year if not longer, i'm guessin spring/summer 2014 for this.

Anyway i'm goin to bed, won't rspond till mornin, have a good night.

My guess is it will probably be around spring of 2014. That is around the time of Wildstars release as well as ESO coming shortly after that. BW will have to have something to compete with both of those games to hold people here.

While I won't be truly happy until I have something close or equal to SWG, I do welcome an improvement of the current Star Fox system.

Technically, this is Star Fox All-Range Mode, but I'm not complaining as long as I'm having fun with it and it has some actual objectives instead of just wiping out the enemy squadron. Escort Missions would be interesting for instance, but with BW these days, I don't dare to get my hopes up as much as I used to.

All I see is another on the rails space shooter, I dont see any evidence that we are going to be given full control of our ship and unless that is what they give us it will still be classed as a crappy mini-game. I havent played any space missions since about the 2nd month of launch because of its piss poor implementation and the fact it is repetitive and boring.

is that the boss fights in starfox 64?

if so I have no clue how you came to that conclusion from watching that video.... :rak_02:

While I initially wrote it just because people keep complaining about how Star Fox-ish space combat has been in this game thus far (which I never had a grudge against, I merely criticize the lack of variety and the revamping of previous missions with just harder enemies), the type of space combat involved here from the looks of it simply is Star Fox in All-Range mode.

It's an enclosed space (I doubt you could fly in one direction forever without either being automatically redirected or receiving an "Exhaustion Zone - Turn Back Now!" Message.) and from what it seems you are still somewhat stuck to an horizontal plane of flight and can only go fly up or down to a certain degree (didn't seem you could just take a nosedive to evade enemy fire).

Could be wrong, but that was just my perception of it.

There is hyping it to high heaven and then there is the cynicism of low hells. One should strive for balance in all things.

I would even pay for PROPER space content as expac -.-

Rail shooter is fun......for the first 15-ish mins of 2-3 space missions at the start of the game when you get your ship, after that its repetitive and gets old fast...My opinion.

A lot of people paid for proper space combat in SWG as an expansion. :p

But then again, that came with:

- Multitudes of space zones

- An open 'world' space pvp zone

- Variety in ship customization as well as types of ships, e.g. gunboats, fighters, bombers

- Pilot mission series which ended in attacking a capital ship

- Multi passenger ships where people got on the turrents, did repairs, and piloted the ship

- Pilot leveling system

- Han Solo's ship

I'd love to see this game provide at least half of that, then I'll practically live in space.

To me it looks like the same old same old, just with new ships. All we see is a very brief glimpse of a 3rd person view of a ship with a few jinks and some shooting - a lot like how it plays on live right now.

I could see it as multiplayer - instead of one ship on rails you could have 4 ships on rails in the same scenario, but I don't see evidence of the free form flight I used to enjoy in that other SW game, and without that it is not something I will do very much of, if any.

Here's hoping they don't make the same mistake SOE did with JTL and balance the entire thing around PVE with no real thought to PVP (which was just one shot kills all over the place, absolutely no skill whatsoever).

I'd be personally happy if it was just free flight with no PVP at all than what JTL had.

No, the camera in that video is way too twitchy for it to be on rails. There's definitely some free flying in it and the video strongly suggests it's a warzone-like scenario.

I'm... waiting. SSSP finally addressed, revealed, close to completion if not there already. There are so many possibilities that we really don't know what's what yet. It could be open world space, it could be 8v8 PvP, it could be open world PvP, it could work like flashpoints, operations, solo missions, board and sabotage missions. There are any number of directions it could go.

So in short, we mainly simply know that this is happening, it's finally nearing completion, and Bioware's got their sights aimed on winning everyone over with it. But probably the best part about the video, is that the only thing that we can say for sure from it is this: graphics are good, VO is good, gameplay looks pretty good too. Things like those are the frame on which any new type of gameplay is built. If your frame sucks, the mode will fall apart. And the bottom line is that it looks really solid from what we can see so far. Even if they don't add everything at the launch of SSSP that we would like, the fact is that they have the capability to add those gametypes onto a solid gameplay foundation. That's what matters.

based on the datamined information its going to be probably pvp or some form of pvp. There is also a ton of information that there will be 3 types of ships involved light medium and heavy and each will have different roles to play
