SWTOR Unleashed (game files in RAM to improve performance)

For some, SW:TOR Unleashed is causing patcher installation issues. The workaround is to go into SW:TOR Unleashed settings and uncheck EVERYTHING. Save settings and run retail and try to patch again.

When patching, select SWTOR Retail in Unleashed launcher, patch, close launcher and now run SWTOR Unleased.

Make sure when you are starting SWTOR Unleashed that you are launching it in "Retail mode" this will allow for patching to take place correctly. After patching is complete, exit the program and then restart Unleashed.

EDIT: or do what the guy right above me posted.:D

When I try to start the game, I get a message saying ImDiskInst.exe was not installed correctly, and it tells me to reinstall. I tried doing so, and that didn't work. I'm not sure why this is happening, because I received a success message when I installed it, and I can even open it up directly using the control panel. Any ideas?

Some files have been renamed in 1.4, i.e. swtor_main_gfx_1.tor is now swtor_main_gfx_assets_1.tor

Easy enough fix.

This worked for me, I renamed only one file in xml and ticked "add extra 100 MB" to counter file size changes (it was not working w/o that). Everything fine again.

Is list of assets and ramdrive size dynamically generated and updated by program or it is premade one by author?

Until last eve when files were renamed I never had problems with updates sticking to this routine:

- run SWTOR Unleashed in Retail mode, exit launcher

- turn on auto learn mode in firewall

- run original TOR launcher as administrator, log in to update game, exit launcher

- run SWTOR Unleashed in unleashed mode

Is it normal for the virtual drive to remain even after I quit the game? Does it "steal" that part of my RAM even when I'm not running the game?

Is it also normal that it "recalculates" for a few seconds at every launch?

It is perfectly normal. And yes it "stole" that part of the memory even if you are not playing the game.

However RAM Drive is unsustainable if your PC is powered off even if it's just a split second.

To turn the RAM Drive off after you are done with the game in SWTOR Unleashed is actually very easy and takes 2 seconds tops.

1. Click on SWTOR Unleashed Executable. this brings up the menu.

2. Click on "Remove and Quit" on top left hand side of the menu.

3. Profit

Next time you want to play Click on Swtor Unleashed again, and click Start Unleashed it will automatically load all the settings you did last time.

Hopefully that helps.

My entire screen is pink when using SWTOR Unleashed post 1.4

When in retail mode there is no pink screen.

My weapons have turned into big green circles that say missing granny since installing this.

Same here

With SWTOR Unleashed, in settings, deselect all assets, save, remove and quit, settings again, select your assets, play in unleashed mode. This bug happens because some game file names changed. But the hard coded ones didn't, so no need to update SWTOR Unleashed.

Try to uninstall it, and download it from the author website (it should be the same i provided, you can check the file's MD5 or SHA1 crc), and install it, then try again (reboot if needed). Make sure you have admin rights in the process.

That's what you get for installing and using software/tweaks/etc not released by the developers. You end up *********** **** up, with no way to fix other than re-installing the game.

Get a life and stop telling crap to everyone. Thanks. Don't reinstall the game pals, SWTOR Unleashed can't harm your game files.

Yes it is. It prevents you to copy the files again in RAM from hard drive if you restart the game. And yes it does "steal" a part of your RAM. You can free it with "remove and quit" button if you want or by just rebooting.

It doesn't calculate that long if you didn't remove the ram drive beween 2 launches.

I have had constant TOR crashes when loading Tatooine in Unleashed mode, worked fine in Retail. Unleashed Launcher did not notify on missing files or any errors. Any advice or 1.4 update incoming?

For now I am running in Retail mode with Procmon to redefine most used assets anew.

I also have the question to hardware/software specialist: I have triple channel motherboard with 2 sets of RAM sockets (blue and black). Is it possible to have system or Imdisk to use the ram only from one set of chips, lets say blue for ramdisk and leave black for system memory?

I was wondering about assembling larger, slower ramchips for ramdrive and faster for system memory. Thanks. :)

Crashes because of SWTOR Unleashed? I highly doubt it... but well, please post your log file and tell me how much ram you have etc...

I heard a lot of people having graphical issues with retail 1.4 (not SWTOR unleashed) but it doesn't concern me. I'm not BioWare.

For your other question : there's no way to do that and anyway it wouldn't change much the speed.

Did it work fine for you pre 1.4?

Only on Tat or is Tat the only planet you have tried it ?

If no to both, try a different planet and see if you have issues. If you do, maybe it's a memory chip issue, and try running a memory test program.

If yes to either, then not sure.

I would love to know how I can uninstall this and go back to running the game the way it was before. I tried deleting the file and uninstalling Imdisk, but when I went to go play the game, the launcher kept crashing. I dont want to make Unleashed work. I dont want to talk about what I dont like about it. I just want it to go away. Please help.

UPDATE: I was able to figure out how to remove Unleashed thanks to Manual Recovery section. The title was a bit misleading. Maybe you could reword it or something so people know how to remove Unleashed if they dont like it. Thanks.

Wow, you did it the "hard way" dude :)

To uninstall it, start it, do "remove and quit" to just disable any trace of it. Then delete the folder and uninstall imdisk. It's that simple.

PS : I'm pretty curious of what you disliked about it. To me, all users I saw disliking it, just misused it. Maybe I can explain you how to make it usefull and easy if you explain me your configuration (computer, operating system, total ram, swtor unleashed settings...) here or in private message.

Regards

True, in the previsous thread a lot of people having issues with swtor unleashed realized it was because they had a defective ram chip (that was never used in "retail" mode since it's always limited to 2.5GB ram total so they didn't noticed).

I'm sorry, but I need to comment...

I've run this program since it was first released. Honestly, if you can't uninstall it, you REALLY shouldn't have installed it to begin with. I swear by this program and have NEVER had any issue with it.

There are requirements, there are setting you need to select...but it's ALL explained and simple.
