Nice guide for the peeps.

"SSD's offer 0 FPS difference in game versus at Physical hard drive. You'll only benefit in load times and menu responsiveness."

Not entirely true. The second part is actually true, but keep in mind that the game constantly loads stuff from the disk when moving around the world, and this CAN introduce stuttering, no matter how fast your harddisk is. The game just stops rendering if it cannot process/read the new information it needs (textures, models, etc) even if this is only a few milliseconds, it can still be annoying and SSD's will diminish this effect.

Still, having 24GB of memory and make a nice ramdrive and throwing all gamefiles in there would alleviate that problem for 99% excluding coding flaws :)

for gaming getting more expensive cpu than i5 2500K(as it overclocks really easy and quite a bit) is not generally worth the bang for buck because those cpu's have much added premium price for no real gaming performance. (if money means nada and you have deep pockets then go for it for who cares? :).)

keep away from i5 2550K they look like old 2500K rejects with +100mhz and killed iGPU with added price for suckers.

i7 2600K is for video/photo editing with no real gaming benefit. i7 2700K is for little men with deep pockets and need to compensate for something.

use the saved money on cpu to better gpu. instead HD6770 get a HD6850 or HD6870. no idea on nvidia equivalents.

make sure to get GOOD psu. good psu doesnt need as many watts and is possibly the most important pice to have that is reliable. losing psu in action can possibly cost everything inside the case at the same time. i like my corsair psu but there are others too.

/2c

Thankyou for your advice, i have made a new build which is a bit more expensive but i hope i can get it:

Intel® Core™i7-2700k Quad Core (3.50GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics

Motherboard: ASUS® P8Z68-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX

16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (4 x 4GB KIT)

1GB AMD RADEON™ HD6870 - 2 DVI,HDMI,2 mDP - DX® 11, Eyefinity 4 Capable

1TB WD CAVIAR GREEN WD10EARX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE

24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM

CORSAIR 750W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX750 V2-80 PLUS® BRONZE

COOLIT ECO II A.L.C ADVANCED LIQUID COOLER

Fan Controller: NZXT Sentry 2 Fan Controller with upto 5 Fitted Case Fans

Sound Card: ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps PCI-E CARD

6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARD

Monitor: IIYAMA E2473HDS 24" LED WIDESCREEN, 2 HDMI/DVI-D 1920x1080

DVI-D & HDMI Monitor Cables: 1 x 2 METRE GOLD PLATED V1.4 HDMI CABLE

I kept the Intel® Core™i7-2700k Quad Core (3.50GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics because if it does get too much i can always down grade that to 2500k.

Is this a better build?

I have a e8400 processor i know is limiting for this game but i plan on upgrading my RAM to 8 GB from 4 GB AND upgrading my GPU from a GeForce 8800 GTS

My question is What RAM might you Recommend

I plan on upgrading to GPU of ATI radeon 5850 1 gb DDR for a friend has this in his Falconnorthwest and its prices is quite reasonable imo.

What do you think of this Graphics card in the same price range is this a good one.

My processor is really holding me back i know, i am amazed how fast my wolfdale was listed as a good processor to what they have not but i dont think i want to upgrade that atm due to having to get a motherboard also

thanks

im thinking of buying a pc with

intel Pentium CPU G630 @ 2.70 GHZ and 6 Gb of RAM

is this a poor choice? or can i throw in a good Gfx card and be safe?

also how do i read the gfx card numbers correctly, i read that a ati 4550 is a multi media and a ATI 46-- means its for gaming, is that true?

AMD T1100 - 6 Core overclocked to 3.9 Ghz

16 GB GSkill DDR3 1800 Ram <Yes I feel it is useful>

Nvidia GTX 580 Hydro 2 Copper Overclocked a little bit. ;-)

A Thermaltake Bigwater 760I and Koolance EXT440 mix liquid cooling system.

4 TB of local hard drive storage

6 TB of network Storage

120 GB Agilty 3 SSD drive <OS only>

Logitech G930 wireless headset - Recent purchase

Logitech 5.1 sound system <Not sure of the model off the top of my head>

Razer keyboard and mouse.

Pics are BEFORE I added in the Koolance external cooling unit. The bigwater was the only cooling, at the time of the pics, but with the video card added..... something more was needed.

I have a very similar setup. I'm dipping into the teens quite often in PvP. Probably a combination of needing a faster GPU and poor engine optimization.

My i7 3930k Just finally came in the mail! Rebuilding my PC tonight, cant wait for a smoother TOR experience.

I'm Replacing my AMD 1090T @ 4ghz with the i7-3930K. Why you ask? Since I upgraded from my i7-920 to the AMT 1090T I have been very disappointed. Most of the time with settings on high my PC can barley muster 45 FPS, and Warzones on high yield me about 20 FPS. Be it something wrong with my current build, I don't know. I am a PC builder at heart, and sometimes I just want whats "New"

My Final Build:

i7-3930k (Hopefully to ~4.5Ghz)

16gb Ram

Nvidia 580

Corsair H80 cooler

ASUS P9 X79 Pro Socket 2011 mobo

Old Antec 900 Original Case

Corsair 850W PSU

I have a gtx 560 and it can barely run tor at 10 fps, i assume its the card right?

The gtx 560 card is a fine card and on a system with a good processor should be running the game with high FPS. Without knowing anything about your system I would say it's most likely not your video card that is the problem. I would look into upgrading your processor or memory if your mother board would allow it.

Remember that computer components are only interdependent to a point and that a low end processor, not enough ram, and various other issues can bring down even the mightiest of video cards.

This thread is great and all but saying AMD cpu's don't perform like intel is a joke. Any builder/gamer with many years of hardcroe exp. knows AMD chips will last just as long as any intel if cooled properly (as designed). (Using the stock OEM fans)

AMD has never failed me. And I upgrade like crazy and build systems for customers from all walks of life. 17 yrs and counting (not including old school units). lol Intel is fine. But you pay a lot more for nothing more than their fancy commercials on t.v. Buy intel, and you pay for their advertising bills. xD

But every brand has it's fanboy's. I like to pay as little as possible while at the same time, getting as much spec as possible. Call me crazy. :D

Hi guys,

if you have an option to choose between:

2 HD 7770 (crossfire) vs GTX 570, which one would u pick for SWTOR or future games? The benchmarking I've seen online are quite sporatic. Crossfire 7770 is MUCH cheaper than Gtx 570 but is benchmarks stronger in some games. But there are some games where gtx blows crossfire out of the water.

What should I do? I cant find a benchmark just for swtor to compare these two cards :p

I'll be running them both on i5 2500k, 8 gig mem, SSD

Thanks!

It ain't the graphics card - it's the same one that I'm running - I'm on close to 60fps at all times (including raids - excluding PvP, which isn't something that interests me) and that's with everything set on "high" except shadows (which look so bad, I turned them off).

I do know that this game spanks your CPU something rotten, and large amounts of memory are needed.

I wouldn't be fussed if my FPS dropped to 25, though. After all, that's how films are shown.

Saw a Craigslist post in my area and I am really considering buying this rig for SWTOR.. What do you guys think? I'll switch out the video card with a msi geforce 560...and my current processor is a Intel Core 2 Quad 6600.. (Nice amount of an upgrade for the cpu, yes?)

1 X Intel Core i7 920 LGA 1366 CPU;

1 X Thermaltake SPIN Q CPU COOLER;

1 X MSI X58A-GD45 motherboard with all accessories;

6 x 2GB Patriot Viper DDR3 1600 (9-9-9-24), TOTAL 12GB;

1 X OCZ Vertex 30GB SSD;

2 X ATI Radeon HD 4850 crossfire with Themaltake DuOrb cooler;

1 x OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W;

1 x NZXT M59 STEEL CASE.

---

All this for $500.

My goal is seamless fps during warzones/ops with nearly max settings.

Probably should have linked or referenced the thread about using a ram drive to speed things up a bit. While I have to kudo's to your post and thread the game is just a poor performer when it comes to multiple people in the same space.

Also - the Z68 chipset with a 40 to 60GB SSD is a good combo. Going to add a bit to your overall cost but less than a 120+GB SSD and it is used only for cache.

Don't buy it. It will not max Warzones as they are really bad even on my mid-high range system.

The 4850 is meant for dx10, last gen technology.

If I were you I'd chose a single 6850 with an i3 or i5 or fx 4100. Youd probably hit the 600 dollar mark if you budget pretty well and reuse old parts

500 bucks for a used PC is a bad buy imo

incender, that post wasnt intending as a reply to mine, correct? Still wanting some feedback on my question please. :)

No - sorry. Not sure what I did there.

Was trying to say to the OP nice job. Maybe consider the Z68 chipset with a SSD for cache (reasonable cost / ssd performance). And there was another good thread on using a Ram Drive to speed up the I/O (task manager, performance, disk io, look at the asset folder getting hammered).

Again - sorry. Didn't mean to derail.

For the most part the game runs fine for me. Do have the occasional glitch or bug. One thing though that still bothers me is my fps. I'm running win 7 64bit amd athlon II x4 640 @3.01GHz 4GB ram ati 5450 liquid cooled and still have fps issues. Not to mention I had to turn shadow effects off and have to run it on low settings always. I have also had to install additional fans to help with cooling due to system overheating and crashing my computer. According to the windows experience index rating my processor is rated at 7.3, memory 7.3, graphics 4.2, gaming graphics 5.8, and primary hard disk 5.9. Overall rating of 4.2. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
