Sprigum
You know, the ones they disabled because they are too demanding for high end gaming pcs. My question still stands. I'm definitely anxiously awaiting the HD textures. Game looks pretty good already, but with a new set of high res textures it'll really look superb. DarthBishara
I think this game needs to be optimized badly.. Also, new drivers from Nvidia would be nice. I average 114fps (hard lock?) but it dips into the 40/50's. Running 1920x1080, 8xAA 16xAF (forced through ini), High presets. i5 2500k 4.516GB DDR32x 120GB SSD Stripe2 x EVGA GTX580 3072mb

Runs at 60 FPS pretty consistently, but with odd dips into the 50/40s. The dips are pretty frequent in vegetation heavy areas like Alderaan. Thedek
I keep getting this error. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v60/Paladin_Z/Picture.jpg I have tried damn near everything but it keeps happening, including this which I was almost certain would work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbGShCU1HR4 So I'm wondering. Is there any point in me getting a slightly better card and would that fix my problem or is my entire system way too outdated and I should just get to building my computer as I was thinking of doing? Honestly building a new one now is starting to seem like a mistake due to how much I get stressed but it's a lot cheaper isn't it even than say using ecollege pc to build one like I did for this one years ago? I want to get one that will last several years past this point and actually be able to play SOME new games if they come out with ones I want to, but I don't want to spend like 1k or more on it. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/13/2012, 16:51:20 Machine name: COMPUTER-6EC754 Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.111025-1629) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Shouldn't that largely explain any errors and what my system has in it? Yay for being stressed out due to nothing ever working right on top of being sick. liberatus
my specs are intel quad core Q6600 2.4 8GB DDR2 ram Nvidia GTX 560 ti with this its normal to have 10-15 fps in warzones and fleet?
Sprigum
This is my exact system. Similar performance to yours. Runs at 60 FPS pretty consistently, but with odd dips into the 50/40s. The dips are pretty frequent in vegetation heavy areas like Alderaan. I've found that Voss (probably due to the number of trees and largely uncluttered surroundings, tends to be one of the toughest places in the game performance wise. I understand how frustrating this type of issues can be. I want you to download CPUID Hardware Monitor and use that to monitor your Graphics temperatures as well as your CPU temperatures in game. Also, have you added additional RAM recently? My gut feeling is that the GPU is overheating. Learning to build your own computer shouldn't be stressful. I find it fun and relaxing most of the time. Just wait for a day when I know I won't be busy and set aside 3-4 hours (not these days but for a first timer you'll need it). Reading the motherboard manual and watching youtube videos/tutorials will make you feel a lot more comfortable with it. If you feel like it's going to be a real stressful activity then perhaps you should steer clear. Honestly though, learning about it will make you feel much more confident. my specs are intel quad core Q6600 2.4 8GB DDR2 ram Nvidia GTX 560 ti with this its normal to have 10-15 fps in warzones and fleet? No, this is very poor FPS for a 560 Ti / Quad 2.4 Ghz. Fleet is notoriously bad and so are WZ when there is lots of action though. Turning down Aniosotrophic filtering and shadows during PvP will likely give you the largest FPS increase. Have you uninstalled drivers and reinstalled the lastest Nvidia drivers? Let me know. You should be getting 45 minimum I'd say, probably more like 60 in most cases. Edited January 17, 2012 by Sprigum

Thedek
GPU over heating SOUNDS right too. Despite the fact that a 9600 gt should run it at medium settings right ? The two options that only have high or low I have set on high maybe a bad idea I dunno and shadows are off entirely, no bloom. Heard others tell me they figured over heating too, but I had this one heat checking program tell me they weren't I have screen shots of those during use too. Only one thing runs hot, and it's not the GPU, though it's hotter than it ought to be by far I'll link them. Maybe the program is just crap I dunno. Anyway here's the SS of the heat reading during reasonable length of play tabed out for long enough to get them. This is it on the settings I told you before mostly medium no shadows or bloom and high on the two high low only options. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v60/Paladin_Z/okaythatshot.jpg The funny thing is I ran it on low EVERYTHING no shadows bloom and such and the readings aren't that much cooler. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v60/Paladin_Z/notmuchdifferenceisthere.jpg As for the stress of building. I don't know what it is, I guess it's because I am a pessimist. Things always have gone wrong and around 14 I started to figure that they always will. I also have asperger's and it seems when I get too much knowledge running over me before I can absorb it I panic. I panic when I tank and people pull aggro off me. I tried to put in my first video card on this really meh emachines so I could run hl2 back in the day, I thought I had it seated good, I did not. it fell down when I shifted the case back up and I had a small stress fit, kind of like someone punched me in the heart as I thought I broke it and wasted... I think it cost like 220 at the time and money was tough to get then? Just a card would be easy enough but making sure you don't accidentally bend tiny pins when putting in a cpu or forget and discharge static in a case or put a card too high for the PSU and have it short, or something may well make me stressed to the point of sickness. I am not sure. So I'm wondering if I can really do it or not. I never had any confidence either. I never had any real skills that I noticed and no one has taught me any ones or ever let me do anything enough to learn. Being treated like you are a crap soaked leper tends to make you a bitter, cynical, paranoid, stressed, jumpy mess. Not really trying to turn things into a blog here but truth's truth. notashot
I actually just put together a little budget rig that cost me $460 after rebates not including OS (got a copy of win7 free via school). Basically there's the lowdown- i3-2100 ~$110 on amazon MSI h61m-p35 mobo ~$60 diamond HD6770 gpu (got it on a shocker deal at newegg for $70) gskill 4g 1333 ram ~$22 450w bronze certified psu $44 (29 after mail in) nzxt case $40 asus dvd drive $20 western digital 500g HD -99 basically, stick to solid brands like MSI, Asus, gigabyte, evga and sapphire (for gpus). I got a solid deal on the diamond card and it had excellent reviews so i gambled, but usually i dont. Couple quick budget tips- For PSU's, most people don't need as much wattage as they think if they don't use a big card. for 6770s a 450 is fine. HD6850/550GTX is gonna want 550 and after that 650 unless you do some SLI/crossfire stuff. for ram, you will NOT NOTICE any boost going from 1333 to 1600 speed on your ram unless you are doing video editting and rendering for Jurassic Park 4. 1333 is fine. Don't go for crazy hard drives right now since mechanical drive prices are still high. Get something good enough for now and you can always get a slave drive later. If you do SSD, Crucial and intel seem to be making the most reliable drives (OCZ has some issues). When picking out a mobo, pick out what you need based on features. If you only need a basic board with 1 PCI express slot and 2 ram slots, H61 is very adequate. The board I have is small, sleek, and actually has well placed SATA ports (an issue on microATX boards). Don't buy aftermarket cooling unless you are overclocking. Stock cooling with a good case (such as the nxzt case that I have which has excellent ventilation) is adequate for almost everyone reading this thread. Newegg has some good how-to videos on PC building for those of you scared to get your hands dirty. But with the build I have and those videos, an amateur can get quality performance for cheap. And from what I understand, the new intel chips will be backwards compatable with the LGA1155 chipset mobos (the motherboard almost all current intel i3/i5/i7s are using). So you will be able to upgrade your CPU and GPU (and RAM for that matter) for a huge performance gain later in the year if you are waiting on the $$$ but want something to play with right now. Thedek
I'm thinking again that I may be able to build one but I'm not sure. as far as pure cases go I'm kind of thinking of this. Though even as the cheapest of that brand it's kind of high http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139008 But I like the cord catcher thingies, and I believe it's an easy side open which I really want so I won't have to worry about stripping screws when I just need to pop it open for dusting. Speaking of which how often is a good idea for normal dusting kind of maintenance? That's usually the only kind of maintenance you need to do unless something has already gone wrong right? As all of my gaming comps have gone amd cpus and nvidia gpu I think I'd probably do those again. Not sure about the cpu anymore. A buddy of mine said I could probably get a 560 at a fairly decent price anymore for gpu. This is planning though as I have 90 bucks to my name right now and get paid once a month. I'd like to make one that would play maybe battlefield 3 at reasonable, maybe high but not super high or such settings, and be like six or so years before I need to replace. Problem is comps get outdated so fast it isn't even funny. Though my main reason to being this topic is hopefully figuring out what's wrong with my current rig so I can save all of my money towards this rig I want to build, rather than into something now to play TOR. Though if I HAVE to pay like 50-70 ish tops to get a card to run tor until I can build my new one that might could work..... but I wanted to make sure the card was crapping out not my whole computer. Wasting some money that could go towards my better computer to play TOR now is one thing. Wasting some only to have it still crap out and not play tor would probably make me actually manifest rage induced physic powers for real.

AMD Phenom II 840T Quad core 6 GB ram (5.75 free) ATI Radeon HD 4200 Windows 7 64 bit As of right now I have to have all the setting on low or off and the resolution at 1280 x 720 for this game to even try to run smoothly (at times). I would appreciate any help/advice any of you could give so that I can actually enjoy this game
Xaerie
This was a wonderfully presented thread. I don't only speak for myself when I say "thank you for taking the time to create such a post!" This thread is great for both newcomer, and experienced computer users. May I suggest listing the site http://www.crucial.com to help people who don't know how to figure out which RAM is compatible with their laptop or pc... although I do not suggest purchasing from them (they are sometimes overpriced) They help you figure out which specs you can upgrade. Trorgoon
Hmmm i got a feeling that my cpu is obsolete. CPU: Intel Pentium4 3.4 ghz RAM: 8gb ddr2 Graphiccard: Gainward GTS 250 1gb Mainboard: Abit Fatality FP-IN9 SLi OS: win7 ultimate 64bit If i turn the graphics down to low and shadows off, it runs just fine at were u start with your new character, but at higher lvl places it starts to lagg alot. Especially at imperial fleet (but hey i bet its rly crowded to). My mainboard can handle Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo, but is it worth spending money for a CPU for socket 775 and will the game run better with the other stuff i alrdy have in my comp? Thedek
I just changed from a msi 9600 gt to a EVGA gt 520. It booted and is running normal things fine but whenever I try to load TOR it gives me a black screen and "INPUT NOT SUPPORTED". I already altered the ini to be my native resolution the first time it did this when I installed the game on my other card and I just can't figure out what the problem is. Also it seemed to have sound the first time and this time it's just nothing. EDIT:: Never mind about that I have it running now I just need time to see if it's going to blue screen crash as well. AgentFury
I think this game needs to be optimized badly.. Also, new drivers from Nvidia would be nice. I average 114fps (hard lock?) but it dips into the 40/50's. Running 1920x1080, 8xAA 16xAF (forced through ini), High presets. i5 2500k 4.5 16GB DDR3 2x 120GB SSD Stripe 2 x EVGA GTX580 3072mb Hmm this is pretty surprising for me since you are running on an insane high end PC system which should be running this game smoothly no matter what! I agree with you that this game needs to be optimized badly! xD I have my PC system running with: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.2GHz 4GB of RAM DDR2 800MHz NVIDIA Geforce GTX 560Ti 448 cores 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 1TB 7200RPM 64MB cache hard drive I have been playing with my first character as jedi knight on Coruscant. On my maximum setting, I usually get 90 - 110 fps in some small areas with few enemies or when I am not looking at the many motions in graphic detail such as grass, trees, people, traffics, etc... 40 - 80 fps in random PVE combat areas with plenty of enemies out there... 25 - 50 fps in the middle of the big city (near the Senate tower) on Coruscant. Crazy huh? It's like going from smoothness to the big drop in fps in some areas. I do think that my AMD Phenom II x4 955 is the one struggling with the whole crazy calculating to process everything in this game since it is mostly CPU bound. xD

Minimum requirements are ATI X1800 or better so your good there. But again the 2900xt is not much better than the bare minimum so don't expect much That video card is almost 5 years old. IShinmenI
I got the this machine right now MS Windows XP Home Premium CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 RAM 4.0GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 300MHz (5-5-5-15) Motherboard http://www.abit.com.tw/ KN9(NF-MCP55 series) (Socket AM2 ) Graphics 768MB GeForce 8800 GTX And im thinking to upgrade to this spec MS Windows 7 Home Premium CPU Core i5 2500k 3.3Ghz 6MB Cache Quad Core LGA 1155 3.7Ghz Turbo RAM Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB PC12800 1600Mhz Kit Dual Channel 2x4GB KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX o Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 Intel Z68 Graphics Gigabyte GV-N560OC-1GI Nvidia GTX560 Ti 1GB GDDR5 256bits HDMI/DVI/DVI 384sp Will i be able to play at max setting with this setup? Yes, the build you describe will run on max settings with no AA. I would expect low AA to be around 40-50 fps. If you can afford it, I recommend the 2600k (more OC head room for increased performance) and a GTX580.
