Taspan ambush space mission

This space mission pisses me off really bad! I have only successfully completed it twice and it took me several tries just to get that. I'm just curious if the mission is bugged or something, seems that the ship i'm escorting goes from 100% to about 40% at one point and i have no idea why. Basically only completed it twice out of pure luck.

I've tried to search the forums about it but i cant find a search option.

Once you get in a certain asteroid field the shuttle gets attacked by several fighters and a cruiser or two. I think the shuttle also bumps in an asteroid. Anyways by that time the mission's almost over. Don't really see how you can let it die after that. It's a pretty easy mission. But then again - so are all the space missions at least until lvl 35.

Exactly. There's not a whole lot you can do about the fighters, they're coming towards you and thus have a free shot at the shuttle before you can do anything. You can however, blast the turrets off the cruisers so they can't do much.

I know the point in reference, it's just after going thru a narrow passage between 2 large asteroids...the shuttle gets absolutely hammered coming out the other end because it flies first and runs into all those oncoming fighters.

I'm with those swearing that it slams into an asteroid. Or two. I've seen it lose nearly half its health meter in less than a second, and I don't believe it's getting hit by that many blasters/turrets instantly.

I've completed this successfully a couple of times, but now I just plain and simple refuse to do it. It's not enjoyable. It's irritating.

I'm having the same problems the OP wrote about so there must be something else about this mission.

I've tried this mission several times and while I complete the others like a breeze, this one keeps failing.

The thing I found after failing the first 2 times I tried this, is that you need to prioritise the turrets on the Cruisers over the fighters. The Cruiser turrets seem to do more damage than the fighters, and they weave on and off the screen a lot (particularly the ones at the end or the mission). If you don’t kill the turrets before the ship flies out of your view, the Cruisers sit there out of view raining down damage on to the shuttle, and there’s nothing you can do to prevent it. I agree that Taspian Ambush is stupidly annoying. But it is very much doable. Buy the best ship upgrades for your lvl, and shoot everything you see. If things go as it has always gone for me when I made it, then the shuttle should be slightly below half health when you exit the gorge. Just keep your focus on, and keep trying. It is hard, but doable. If you cant do it, then wait a few levels.

The spacemissions after that are no walk in the park either. o.o

  • 5 weeks later...

I don't recognize the Taspan ambush name, so I'm assuming that's an imp mission?

If it's similar to the republic mission that sounds, from the descriptions, to be the mirrorside mission, the first suggestion I'd have would be to take out the cruisers targetting computers first over/while taking out turrets. 2-3 missiles should do the trick. (on the imp cruisers it's top of the nose, no idea where it is on repub cruisers). That should dramatically reduce the cruisers accuracy.

Also you want to inflict as much damage as possible on the cruisers at the beginning of the mission. One of them is the one that shows up after the narrow passage, so if you've already pulled it's teeth, it won't be able to hit the shuttle with much of anything. (though there *is* a second fresh cruiser that shows up)

It seems like the missions go from stupidly easy to Tourettes-inducing frustration. No middle ground...or is it me?

At around level 40? 100% completion, excluding some bonus tasks, then BOOM, no more completions. I failed so many times that now that I'm 50 and can have all the upgrades I haven't gone back to try again.

Still play the low level ones with my alts though.

I don't think I've failed a single space mission... ever... and I do them when they are still red, the second the unlock for the most exp... maybe they just come easy to me...

That being said, the ship will ALWAYS take a huge hit in damage before the last leg of the escort. There is nothing you can do about it. However, some of the capital ships in the last leg are the same ones from the first leg, so make sure you take out all of there turrets as you pass them the first time. Also take out the fighters in the distance when them are coming to you, this can save the ship a little. As soon as you see the yellow way off in the distance, you can usually target them and they go down very easy in that mission.

Learn how many shots it takes to take down a ship (it varies by mission) and put that many off in the distance and look for a new target. If you hold down trying to kill a fighter way off in the distance, you'll shoot an extra 10+ shots before it blows up because of travel time.

Also, if you are still having trouble, get the power converter. Nothing is aiming for you on that mission and you can give you blasters the extra boost without worring about your shields at all.

The last 3 missions you get in the 40s are kind of tough, until you get used to them. With full blue upgrades they are definately easily doable when you just know when everything is coming. You also need some of the commendation upgrades as well. Without those expect them to be impossible.

Like the jammer thing that makes you untargettable, an absolute must to not get wrecked by blasters in some cases.

Having Epic ship upgrades makes most of the content relatively trivial.

Correct. I've flown this one many times, and the escort always gets the metaphorical snot beaten out of it at this one point, dropping from full health to ~40%. I honestly don't believe there's any way to avoid it; I've flown "perfectly" and blown up every target on screen as soon as I could, and the escort still dropped to ~40% at this one point.

You fly between two huge asteroids, and as you come out, there's a capital ship coming in high and from the left, with (some) turbolasers that you cannot target since they're offscreen. That accounts for a lot of the trouble, from what I've seen. The fighters coming from behind you are easy enough to deal with, but the ones coming from in front of you get a lot of shots off on the escort before you can target them. It all happens in under a second.

Everything before this point is controllable with some effort. Everything after this point is fairly easy. But at this one point, the escorted shuttle just takes a beating. It's a bit annoying to be honest.

I think they're all too easy. Even Aeten Defense can practically be done with your eyes closed once your ship is geared. If you can't breeze through all the space missions, you probably still have the stock components on your ship. Make sure to replace your vendor bought upgrades with cyber-tech parts when you get high enough.

This is EXACTLY what I have experienced and I simply ignore it now. It just wasn't worth the time and frustration. I love the rest of them. Very fun and reminds me of the hours of fun I had playing X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Nice Star Wars arcade action as a little side bar to my regular play.

I also experienced this and stopped doing them from about 40ish. I'd duck back in every few levels but the difficulty had gotten crazy hard even though I have all the top gear and all the extra ship mods. I still love doing them on my alts but it got very frustrating on my 50.

As mentioned above, the key is to take out the turrets on the capital ships. This mission does not require shields or armor really since everything is gunning for the defecting ship.

Make sure you have upgraded blasters and have power focused on your blasters for quick kills.

The capital ships make a couple of rounds at your escort, so the more turrets you blow up, the less damage the ship will take later on.

Learn the pattern of the fighters when you go through the asteroid field and have your blasters gunning for them when they are going to show up.

Wait until you get to Sullest Interception, that one made me want to hurt kittens the first few times. You absolutely have to have the 10 second targeting immunity to finish it.

Just you. I died/failed once ever across two level 50s and a 35. That death/fail was caused cause I didnt buy upgrades.

Upgrade your ship as much as possible. You need a ton of missiles. Take out every single thing you can on enemy ships. Turrets, exhaust, lions, tigers ... whatever. If it can be shot with a missile, shoot it. Save your standard guns for enemy fighters.

I've failed once and that was in beta when I was learning ...

Missiles are your friend on the escort missions.

I have upgraded to the maximum possible at level 33, I have emptied my missile bay on turrets on the frigates, I have kept my blasters blazing away on overload. I have done everything people are suggesting here but over and over at the same exact point in the mission the shuttles health goes down from a mostly green bar to no green at all in a span of about 10 seconds right as it exits the trench and the number of fighters blazing at the shuttle overwhelms it in no time at all.

Let's not mention the fresh untouched frigate that shows up at the end of the trench run and which isn't on screen long enough to be able to do anything about the turrets.

I keep trying this mission. I keep trying different things. I have concentrated on frigate turrets to no avail. Regardless of what I do, the mission fails at the same exact point every single time.

Maybe you got lucky a time or two, but the simple fact of the matter is that the shuttle hits something and loses a huge chunk of its health and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about that.

I tried a bug report but all that got me was a request for information that is impossible to give on space missions. As far as I can tell there are no waypoints in space and yet the report reply asked me for just that.

I'm stuck trying to do this mission and quite frankly I am getting so frustrated that I've stopped doing the space missions altogether.

Hard is one thing, next to impossible is something else. This mission isn't fun, even for people who have managed to complete it.
