Hi! I'm a genderfluid, panromantic, gay, and dmab (That's a mouthful, innit?)

I use gender neutral pronouns and prefer to be called Ivy, but Patrick (My 'actual name') is fine too.

My main characters are:

Stagenn (Sorcerer lvl 55, The Harbinger)

Stagenn (Marauder lvl 53, PotF)

De'kex (Sniper lvl 33, The Harbinger)

Raythirs (Assassin lvl 50, PotF)

I also have a Gunslinger named Al'tayatte at lvl 23 on PotF that I go on every now and then.

Currently looking for a guild, so if you run a guild, or your guild is looking for more members, just message me in game :)

A couple of those names sound familiar...I think I may have played with you before.

Feel free to group with me, if you see me around. Look for anyone with the Legacy name Caradhras.

To explain to most people in this thread why LGBT guilds exist.

Make no mistake an LGBT is not an attempt to create our own little island away from the rest of the community, on the contrary it's the exact opposite, its so we can have representation and a positive community in the game and be in a guild where you don't HAVE to worry about an officer being a bigot or someone being uncomfortable with you as a person.

There is no Straight pride guild because every guild IS straight already or the norm.

If you wanna pretend that there's no anti gay bias in a lot of US server's you're more then welcome too, I would also like to enjoy whatever kool-aid you're drinking. LGBT guilds give members, obviously gay members and allies freedom to be themselves without having to bend over backwards because of how you feel or think any group of people should act.

Why is it a big deal? Because if a person has to remain in the closet to be a functioning or respected player on the server. Yeah that's pretty messed up. Just read that aloud and try to defend it, it doesn't matter if you're "cool with the gays" when other people are not. Homophobia exists when misinterpretation runs rampant and that's due to overwhelming bigotry and complete ignorance of the existence of any minority. It's none of your business what we do, and its none of my business what you do, but you can't pretend people don't exist because you're afraid some ******* idiot is going to be "offended", because that enables and gives the people offended the idea that violating human rights is a-ok. Which I don't think I need to explain isn't right.

The difference between a pride guild and your everyday guild is pride guild accept everyone.

"Straight guilds" might not. In fact you're more than welcome to join any "gay" guild, and see how it's the same old song and dance with any other guild, except they might be slightly prettier than the average MMOer.

And of course gay guy with a sarcastic attitude sounding off

I'm sorry but point out to me the "straight guilds" in the game which purposefully and proudly exclude members of the LGBT community.

Ice been paying mmos for a decade and I've never seen a guilds formed under the pretense of excluding members based in sexual preference.

The only type of exclusion I've ever seen is age exclusion. Many guilds are advertised as 18+ guilds.

Sorry to necro this, but it's been bugging me.

I'm sorry but point out to me the "straight guilds" in the game which purposefully and proudly exclude members of the LGBT community.

There is more than one way to "exclude" people. The casual use of derogatory terms by guild members to put each other down, even if intended in a joking manner, can be disturbing to someone who has faced that kind of hate-speech in the real world. That kind of speech can make people feel unwelcome, or even threatened. So given the choice to join a guild made up of like-minded, gay-friendly people, or joining a guild of random people drawn from the game's overall population (think General chat), I can totally understand why GLBTQ people would choose the former. If you can't understand that, you're lucky. Sheltered, maybe. Privileged, certainly. But lucky. Why deride people with different life experiences from you for making different choices?

I understand the point you're making, and if you use a very narrow definition of exclusion (i.e., not being allowed to join the guild), then you may be correct. (Although I would point out that just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't happened to someone.) But as I said, there are different ways to exclude people. Many in the majority may not realize--and some don't care--that their jokes or casual trash talk make it uncomfortable for other people. Not just sexual minorities, but people of different races, or even the mentally challenged.

From what I've seen of the GLBTQ-oriented guilds, none of them have a "no straights allowed" policy. In fact, some of our best guildies are straight allies who joined because they, too, like being in an inclusive guild--one that doesn't condone the type of exclusionary language and attitude that can be found in the larger game population.

Oh, and finally, "sexual preference" is a misleading term unless you mean favorite position or flavor of lube. Being gay is not a choice, any more than being straight, black, or female is. The term is "sexual orientation." And it has been for quite some time now.

It may be impossible for any of us to fully understand another's life experiences. I can never really know what it would be like to be a woman, or black, or middle-eastern, or mentally challenged. But I try to at least acknowledge that their experience is different from my own, and let them speak for themselves.

Hello,

New to SWTOR & PC gaming (I just built my rig over the summer), but I'm really enjoying the game so far. Are there any queer guilds on the Begeren Colony? Honestly, I just chose it at random because I was concerned that PvP = noob unfriendly. It looks like there is more representation on other servers - can you move your toon across servers, or does it require making a new character?

Anyway, I'm a level 14 Sage at the moment. I'm happy to play with others & could use some advice as this keyboard and mouse thing is still a little weird. My character's name is Erruuwn and I'm a lesbian in rl. I live in the leftish-middle of the country, so I'm not sure if an east coast server would cause more or less lag.

Thanks!

Not sure what the situation is like currently for LGBT guilds, given all changes in player population. On The Harbinger both "Rough Trade" (Republic) and "Taint" (Empire) are still present but less busy than previously (Taint has always been busier of the two, which still seems to be the case). Not sure if those guilds also have a presence on Begeren Colony (Taint is active in other MMOs also). There may be new LGBT guilds that I'm not aware of, and I know there are several that make a point of being LGBT-friendly. Yes you can switch servers but, like other RP servers, BC tends to be much busier than either the PvE or PvP servers these days, so you might want to research the options on BC before making a switch, because you might be better off where you are presently. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info- I didn't really think about server traffic and how it would influence potential guilds.

The Imperial Northwestern Front is an LGBT friendly guild. Here is the website:

http://inwf.enjin.com. and we're friendly to new comers to swtor.

Sith Apprentice [name withheld] , Progenitor server - checking in.

Also checking:

- the 'i <3 Hello Kitty' (or whatever those glyphs on this paperwork of yours are supposed to mean. the last one looks like Hello Kitty, the middle one is a heart - so i am making a working assumption, as i don't have the luxury of having my 2V-R8 with me atm) checkbox

- the 'looking for a lovely - somewhat casual but would eventually love some friendly raids and RP- guild' checkbox

- the 'new to SWTOR' checkbox

as volunteered info.

I for one would be interested in finding an LGBT-friendly guild (not LGBT-only) because if I talk about the new romance with either Theron or Lana, I get a lot of backlash from guildies who are uncomfortable with the romance options.

If I mention friends of mine who are gay and married, (eg. if I say "his husband" I often have to clarify that yes, they are gay) and then listen to a guildie who feels that it's briefly necessary to tell me that he's straight or doesn't "swing that way".... even if the conversation wasn't a question of his sexuality at all.

I invited my friends to that guild, and they later ended up leaving because they didn't feel welcome. Not everyone in this guild is like that, but we don't comment on the ones who are because it's just accepted that they're maybe a tad bit homophobic, yet we're expected to not bring it up and make sure they're comfortable.

A lot of our male guildies have female toons with skimpy gear, which I love, but if I put one of my male toons in something that shows too much leg or tummy, they comment on how "weird" it is for a male character to look like that.

I'm not even looking to hook up with anyone (I'm a paranoid shut-in who doesn't meet people online), but it would be nice to connect with a fellow gamer, and be able to talk about anything without being harassed because it's "unusual" to someone.

It's sad that guild seems to be like that, I guess it highlights how different places can be, my guilds on ToFN(and basically most of the active PvP community on that server:p) know about my sexuality and I have never had reason to feel uncomfortable, everyone I talk to really is happy to socialise with me and a lot of the straight guys don't mind flirting with me (messing around ofc), and many are curious about my real life relationships too just as they can be about straight relationships. The guilds aren't LGBT etc but just generally very open minded and accepting, as most people on ToFN seem to be if i'm honest (even the biggest trolls included) :D

Hi, I am a returning player to SWTOR and the old guild I was in seems to have vanished. I forget what it was called. However I have been back a week now and I am loving it.

I would love to join an LGBT/GLBT + allies guild if there are any still active on Progenitor. Failing that any nice friendly guild that welcomes LGBT people is good.

I am a good asset to a guild, even though I'm only level 33 at the moment. I am generous courteous and have a wicked dense of humour. I'm not young, I'm mid-thirtees, so over enough to know better.

Experience: Star Trek Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa (RIP), Elite Dangerous.

Cheers.
