Conquest Crafting Changes

I am once again disappointed that the devs are giving in and rewarding the people who spend more time spamming the in-game ticket system, the forums and emails then actually playing the game. When CQ first came out crafting was way more involved in obtaining points and that was watered down to what we had and now are losing. It's just disappointing that one group of people that spread and believe lies are getting to dictate how the rest of us get to play the game. If there are cheaters and botters then weed them out and leave the rest of us alone. Do better.

well, i'm not OK getting screwed because other people are disobeying the TOS and BW is too incompetent to punish just those doing it

I've got IRL to punish me for stuff other people screwed up

Did you read anything I said? THEY CANNOT punish those responsible because Macros are undetectable. Also, you shouldn't be able to craft a bunch of low level stuff and make millions of conquest. Its a system that sets it self up for exploitation. Build a bridge, move on. Simple as that, Maybe do some Ops or Flashpoints instead of crafting your way to conquest of which you can still get over 50k conquest in 6 days.

Hi all,

I wanted to discuss some changes we’re bringing to some crafting objectives in Conquests. The full list is below, but I wanted to share some thoughts as to why, and our goals here.

We aim to create engaging, healthy competition and play. One of our goals for how crafting interfaced with Conquests was to allow crafters to contribute in a meaningful way. We took the approach of allowing many of these objectives to be open-ended (aka infinitely repeatable) since they would still be constrained by the resources necessary to craft.

However, we have seen this in practice turn into unhealthy, and often times problematic, play. Many activities around crafting (gathering, missions, the actual crafts) are very repetitive, and could be automated in ways that violate our Terms of Service.

While we think about how crafting and the crafting economy can fit into the greater game in more meaningful ways in the long term, we are making the following changes to promote a more healthy playing environment:

  • New Objective called ‘Crafting: Inventor’ will be added
    • This will be a Weekly and require twice the number of crafts (100)
    • Base Points = 6,400
    • Upon completion opens up to ‘Crafting: Inventor 2’ Daily Objective

[*]The former ‘Crafting: Inventor’ Objective will change from an Infinite Repeat to a Daily Repeat

    • Will change names to ‘Crafting: Inventor 2’
    • Base Points = 1,100 (up from 750)

[*]‘Crew Skills: Harvesting’ will change from an Infinite Repeat to a Daily Repeat

    • Base points = 1,100 (up from 750)

[*]‘Crafting: War Supplies’ will change from an Infinite Repeat to a Daily Repeat

    • Base Points = 2,000 (up from 1,100)

[*]‘Crafting: Dark Project Eternal’ will be removed from Conquest as there is already a Daily version

[*]‘Crafting: Aid the War Effort’ will change from an Infinite Repeat to a Daily Repeat

    • Base Points = 3,350 (up from 750)

In addition, we want a bit more equity between professions. Going forward, a ‘craft’ for the purposes of conquest objectives will equal one ‘craft’. Previously a ‘craft’ would count each item in a stack of items crafted, shortcutting our intent for the system.

For example - if a Biochem crafter produces a single craft that consists of a stack of 3 stims:

  • Previous: Conquest objective credits that as 3 crafts
  • New: Conquest objective credits that as 1 craft

All of these updates will arrive in Game Update 6.2.1, currently targeting February. I also wanted to share that we are mindful of making large Conquest changes, after doing so a couple of times last year. We are happy in general with where Conquests stand at the moment, but as a live service will continue to make tweaks as needed (such as these) to promote our goals of engaging, healthy competition and play.

If you would like to read updates on general Guild Conquest changes, please see David’s post here.

Thanks,

-Chris

Very disappointed and angry at these changes Chris.

I can’t believe you are capitulating to the handful of whiners calling for crafting Nerfs. Why do crafters and small guilds have to bear the brunt of this when people cheat. Why can’t you just sanction those cheating the system?

First you make changes to pvp that make it less enjoyable and so myself and my guild has stopped playing it. Now you make changes to crafting which used to get us to the bear minimum of planetary yield totals. Once again we get shafted.

Honestly, it feels like one smack down after another to casual or ordinary players who aren’t in the top guild or play high end game content.

Do you not want us players in the game anymore? If so, just say it and we’ll stop subscribing and move on.

'Macros' is a useless term as the game doesn't have macros, and there are many, many ways to automate aspects of a game like SWTOR from simply putting a heavy object on a key or mouse button to using the software that comes with gaming peripherals to using a fully scripted bot with a bit of AI.

In fact, they have banned players for using simple automation to spam click slot machines during the casino event, and that can be done much easier than automating crafting (repeat one button over and over versus selecting companions, selecting missions / craft, accepting missions / crafts, dealing with inventory, etc).

So if they can detect someone using automation at a slot machiene, I'm sure they can detect someone automating crafting or gathering (assuming they want to do so).

But hey, let's just make excuses for the developers who seem willing to spend even more time making changes to conquest based on whiners who spam the forms and PM devs and act toxic in-game over fixing bugs and issues and creating new content.

While it's hard to automate a significant rate of harvesting static nodes for various reasons, someone who wants to stand in one spot can still harvest-spam. It's a bit slow, bit works, and it works faster than nodes: wait around and harvest dead silver+ droids or beasts (yes, that counts for the conquest objective). There are ways to spam harvesting dead droids/beasts with a bit more activity, but I won't enumerate them here.

ive spent a lot of time in game and unless u found some droids/beasts of strong difficulty that respawn every 10seconds then Crew Skills: Harvesting isnt anywhere near the problem the Crafting: Inventor can be. The respawn timer on resource nodes and on strong+ difficulty adds already made Crew Skills: Harvesting not a problem - it was slow way to gain cq points, but worked good for dedicated players traversing the planets. Removing it is a bad choice when its the Crafting: Inventor that is the main(and only imo) problem given that it can ding every 1 minute if youre fast on sending the companions.

if biow finally decided to nerf Crafting: Inventor to hell fine. thats the objective most ppl had a problem with given the possibility for "automation" as biow calls it, but other crafting objectives being nerfed to hell the same way is wrong.

Crafting: War Supplies takes real effort put into it already and could never be automated.

Crafting: Dark Project Eternal was part of only maybe 1 or 2 conquests and already costs enormous amount of money/resources so i dont see exploitation be worth it there.

Crafting: Aid the War Effort is the same as Crafting: Dark Project Eternal - insane amount of resources+money involved to craft so not viable for exploits.

Crew Skills: Harvesting this isnt even crafting, its gathering resource nodes on planets - no way can this be exploited given the long respawn on resource nodes for one, and for another the impossibility to finish objective(10x nodes) without moving significant amount as resource nodes are nowhere near close enough to each other for player to reach without rl person moving the character.

Overall to me it seems that in their hurry to remove Crafting: Inventor to silence those loud ninja ginvite exploiters who dislike upcoming grace period cq changes, Biow just made a clean sweep of anything to do with crafting and nerfed it to hell and back. Remove Crafting: Inventor? Yes fine makes sense. remove all of them? Hell no! Makes 0 sense to remove objectives that never made any problems.

They’ve just used the nuke option on conquest for proper crafters. Instead of sanctioning the handful of players who are abusing something. Even though I don’t agree crafting inventor needed to be removed, if they had to do something, why are they nerfing war supplies, invasion forces, dark projects and harvesting as well?? Why can’t they just surgically fix the small thing that’s being exploited? Why nuke the whole of conquest crafting that’s got nothing to do with it?

As you say, those aren’t exploitable and take a lot of effort across multiple professions and cost lots of credits. Not only that, but they are about to nuke the GTN too because the price on crafting mats and crafted items is about to get destroyed. Which means the whole economy is about to get flipped on its head again.

Attention Bioware, making knee jerk reactions to issues affecting a small percentage of players without fixing the actual cause is going to have more unforeseen negative affects again. Likely it will affect your CM income too and subscriber income. You really need to put this on hold and think this out before rushing ahead. Push this back till April update and do more analysis of cause and affects beyond stopping a handful of people in one guild cheating.

Sadly, I think we all know Bioware won’t walk back on a bad decision unless we all unsub and even then, admitting they are wrong is not something they know how to do. History has shown they don’t care about overwhelming negative feed back to changes the vast majority don’t want or support. Bioware would rather lose more players and shoot themselves in the proverbial foot than admit they are wrong.

Makes me sick that the spam whiners who continually broke the TOS and spammed the forums for their own selfish reasons (and had to be reprimanded repeatedly) can have such an affect on developer decisions. But when Bioware ask for feed back on the pts and we give it to them in an analytical way with data to support out positions, they ignore it.

What about the pvp changes Chris? Are you going to look at those? We’ve been trying to get you to communicate about those for months? They aren’t working for some of us.

I don't even craft dude. I just also don't think nerfing everything rather than going after those responsible is a good idea.

Again, what's next, nerfing CZ because it's too easy to be worthy? Credits can be bought from sellers, so lets just ban credit gathering for a week!

It really shocks me how many people are behind this change when there were so many other ways to address the botting without penalising legitimate players.

Its just short sited, it may not affect you this time, but this will absolutely impact more legitimate players than botters. People need to stop and consider that the next time the whiners start up, an activity which you enjoy may be caught up and nerfed when alternative solutions are available.

I had been giving the devs the benefit of the doubt following the way they listened to us during the last points rebalance, then hiring Jackie to provide a real presence in the forums; it seemed that things were changing... but I think I am done, there truly is no point discussing improvements and trying to provide feedback when we are straight back to problems being handled like this again.

You need to understand something: people like us don't really matter and it has been made VERY abundantly clear. As the old saying goes:

" Your actions speaks so loudly I can't hear a word you are saying."

This entire affair is sickening.

I guess it doesn't matter now!

** The winners: those who broke TOS in game AND in this forum as well.

** The "losers" .... everyone else !! Regardless of what some might suggest ... this sort of action has hurt everyone!

** This reinforces the old idiom "Nice guys finish last". I know we just got it handed to us !

Right now I'm about 1/2 step away from just dumping this headache and dedicating more time at "the office" !! It's considerably more expensive ... but in some ways more satisfying !!

BTW.. I agree Dasty.

I feel sorry for those who have to moderate this mess. I don't envy you at all. No doubt a thankless job.

Now then ... what will it take to get some GOOD STUFF done for the game ???

Yeah, poor Jackie really walked into this job at a bad time,

I’m reconsidering if we’ll keep paying for 4 accounts across our family or just pay for 1 and the other 3 can go preferred.

It’s not like they’ll need to use 8 companions to craft and we aren’t pvping anymore since the changes to that.

Plus the upcoming rescaling to uprisings means that’s another activity we will have to stop doing as a pair.

My wife has nearly run all her end lvl Alts through to the end. I think once my sister and her have finished them, we will save some money and stop subscribing on those accounts because they won’t need to pay to play for the little remaining content we’ll enjoy playing after this.

Which means we’ll all be playing less than we currently do and that likely means my subscription won’t be needed either.

I’ve plenty of credits (7 billion credits) and CC to open up all the access things we’ll need for preferred access and not lose out on QOL or gear access.

It will be good to not need to pay for WTFast too. All up I think we’ll save over $200AU a month. Not sure what I’ll do to get my forums fix?

I think this is absolutely amazing and I thank you all for listening to us. The people complaining either A. Don’t win conquests because crafting legitimately is not going to win you any planets or B. Apart of the problematic group of people botting on a massive scale monopolizing the system.

Thank you so much for putting an end to botting once and for all. There’s people saying “we will stop subbing”, we say we will continue to sub and support the game for years to come thanks to the team finally addressing the issue.

And wow, in the time it took me to unsub, more posts actually congratulating the way this was handled.

Best part of this is I only actually crafted on one character who never obtained an amount of points worth worrying about anyway, but f'k it, have fun folks, until the whining hits onto something you enjoy and it gets nerfed into the ground!! :D

My new "office" could cost significantly ... ( in REAL money). But at may age if I don't pull the trigger on it soon .. I REALLY WILL be to old to enjoy it.

I just moved all of my characters to one location ... the same SH and all of them have the exact same balance in credits (so it will be easy to remember). Just a few screen shots for my personal records.

IMO this isn't just about crafting. It really is about how to abuse TOS in game and on the forums ... then walk away smelling like a rose.

I may be old... and maybe even way out of step with the younger generation. I get that !! And for the most part I've tried to take that into account. ( meaning that most folks don't do things the way I do ... just how it is! ) AND for the record .. I do NOT do crafting !! I never have !!! BUT I do know a bad deal when I see one.

(personal note: I play the GTN at a VERY modest low keyed pace. In fact I really don't even have that many crafting mats in stock to even resale right now !! )

I would have preferred to see that 3rd option. There might have been some changes... but I would not have fed the very thing that has managed to divide this community.

IMO ... this is not a win/win.

Oh well ... what is done is done !!

@ OlBuzz. I expect this is going to cause upheaval on the GTN economy too because mats and jawa junk conversion just became worthless with these announcements.

I predict at first we’ll see a price crash in mat costs as people try to clear stock. Then we’ll see a price crash in some crafted items as people list too many things on the GTN because the mats were so cheap for them.

Then later once all the dedicated crafters have left the game or stopped bothering because there is no return for their time, the prices on some items will sky rocket higher than now because there will be less competition from those making them, so they’ll jack up the prices.

It won’t happen overnight, but in the months ahead, the GTN economy and inflation will be much worse than it is now and people already whine how bad it is. These changes to conquest crafting are going to make it worse. And when it does, I hope everyone remembers it was a small group of people who spammed the forums for their own selfish needs that led to this.

I’m going to try and clear all my mats and crafted items this weekend and hope I get half what they were worth before this announcement.

It seems as if our main culprit is the Inventor objective if it's as abusable as described. Why not just go with that for now? And please make a statement when you do because the market is starting to blow up and newbies will no longer be able to sell green mats for decent credits.

I am VERY happy with those changes. I actually also agree with the Ninja Invites changes, however not the grace period.

But i thinnk in time we will see other guilds on the leaderboard and no monopoly and boters who make 5 million conquest points a day with potentially more considering the proof and video material that has been seen and provided to the Dev team.

For those who are now complaining, You can gladly thank the Macro-Boters for the changes, not your competitive guilds.

It has been seen how a certain guild managed to make with30-50 people on average over 800 mil conquest, and i believe for obvious reasons that this will stop being the case. Evidence, even some of mine, has circulated this threads and im happy they have come to fruition.

Big Thank You to the Bioware Team

Instead of trying to cure the disease you are killing the patient, if these changes go through you are going to lose decent players, and be left with people like this. It's shocking that sheeple listen to these people instead of thinking for themselves, then again

ofc its the responsibility of guilds to inform their members what happened and what is wrong.

I would also encourage players from my circle to talk in the topic and i did.

Do you dislike more people engaging in those forums?

Do You want to ban people who disagree with Your line of how the gam should work?

Are those people who are against bots not decent enough already?

what i like to see is that bioware is doing now more worse then good.

and there are way's to fix the problem but it will not hurt all the guilds like its doing now.

what bioware most do is split it more in 2 way's.

that the small and medium conquest's fields stay with crafting on Infinite Repeat's.

and only the large conquest field become from Infinite Repeat to daily repeat so that the small guilds still have a chance and its better.

i hope bioware is thinking about this since this is the best way to fix the problem and what there are doing is only making worse for the smaller guilds.

When I started with crew skills I needed resources. My companions were noobs and doing mission was lastlonging. I wanted to have materials and craft skill on level 700 faster then few weeks. So I was harvesting on planets more than one hour. Are you saying me now that me playing an hour in game give me nothing? So if I need materials will I be punished because I want make a stim instead of doing dailies? And how exactly will this prevent me from standing there, going away from my keyboard and use macro? If I don't have points for my effort and still want the material, how exactly will you motivate me to do it manually? I just don't get it. I just don't get why would anyone continue harvesting material manually. It seems to me, you actually don't care about people violating TOS. It seems to me you are ok if they do it unless they participate in conquest. And it seems to me, if I have some moral codex you will punish me. You want from me spending my time with harvesting and have almost 0 participation in conquest and helping my guild. Of course I will stop harvesting. Is it your intend? And I won't start using macros (which ironicly make your decision bereably) because I don't want to violate TOS. I propably also stop or slow down making stuff with craft. I won't give them to my guildmates or place them on GTN for normal price anymore. What a relief, cheaters don't care. They will sell me stuff I need and I crafted before for prices that will make me bleed because luckily they won't stop doing macro. Am I missing something?

It's not only harvesting what makes me wonder, it was the easiest thing for me to describe.

if you think is good only the big guilds are doing crafting like crazy then why a small or medium guild most feel the pain also what the big guilds are doing on the large fields?

... You keep saying this as if it was *hard* to make 5 mil conquest per day. Yesterday, I logged for a whole of 5 minutes in one of my characters... And made 62k conquest just from finishing "Enemies of the Republic". I don't even think I finished the bonus, and certainly I didn't hit any rampage (currently sitting in 10/25).

I have done nothing in this current conquest week on this character save finish The Works and pick up a ship (and Enemies of the Republic) and I'm over 250 in conquest.

Imagine if I decided to... IDK, play the game, follow the story, finish it up with a couple heroics to make sure I'm at level. Take a look at things like "activity finder [eternal]" and "heroic pinnacle [eternal]" and try to consider just how many points it racks up... 5 minutes on TC. 10 minutes on a Huttball (if you get arenas, much less than that). Do you know how quick it is to stealth through fps? In 15 minutes, I can stealth through 4 or 5 heroics, depending on lag. One of my toons is in a guild that I'm the only account still active... One bored Tuesday morning (before they moved the reset to midday), I pushed the guild through conquest in medium Yield. No crafting was involved... And no story. Just heroics, pvp, event. Fun times.

For those who are now complaining, You can gladly thank the Macro-Boters for the changes, not your competitive guilds.

Look, demanding 200k conquest/week or spamming people in guildS calling them to arms "aGaInSt TyRaNnY" isn't what I'd call competitive. I'd call it bullying.

(and childish and annoying, but, hey, I'm enjoying this like the bad soap opera it is)

I also ask the commenters here to not be toxic who are against those changes,

I'm unsure if here you're trying to pretend you want people who are in favour of this NOT to be toxic... Which is clearly in disagreement with what they're being asked to do in their guilds...

And if you're asking people who disagree with changes AND are being called cheaters for it to NOT BE TOXIC, I have to applaud the nerve to engage in such hypocrisy in public.

"It's the responsibility of the guilds to inform their members what happened and what is wrong"... I'm sorry, I think I missed the memo about guilds being The Press or The Church... Or whomever else is Preaching The Truth™ these days...

Seriously, this sounds NOTHING like free speech or player engagement, it looks exactly like peer pressure, herd behaviour and a whole lot of spam. Worse, whining spam.

Now, if you are against bots but in favour of this sort of bullying... Nope, you're not decent enough already. You're not decent at all. Being righteous and being decent are two very, very, very different things.

Most of the changes are bad and I am not much of a crafter (I only craft augments, stims, adrenals, and medpacks for myself). The one I do like is the one craft equals one craft no matter how many are made in the stack. A change I would have liked to see is the character getting conquest has to craft things at it's level, I.E. a level 20 character can craft items for level 20+ and get credit, however, a level 75 character would have to craft things at 650-700 to get credit.

Instead of making sweeping changes that affect the vast majority of players playing by the rules how about enforcing your terms of service. If you have enough proof of "botting" to make the changes then you have enough proof to enforce the ToS. Right?

As for the guilds getting the number one spot week in and week out; who cares? Join them to get the title. Do you people cry about seeing people flying on Wings of the Architect? Should they make it so HM Brontes or even SM Brontes drop the wings? What about the titles and other mounts from NiM/HM OPS?

Anyways, crafting in general needs a complete overhaul as some are completely worthless, like Artifice.

first the guild u speak of didnt reach over 800m and second they actually had active grp farming rampage kills on the planet and could be seen there at random times. youre so full of it beoknez accusing them of crafting their way toward the highest ever conquest score, when all they had 16+ grp of dedicated players actively farming npc kills planetside during the event. i actually bothered to check and saw them - so the conclusion is this: they have a community while your guild only had ninja ginvites - well maybe not your guild directly, but the guild you pander to who was the main other competitor in the conquest at the time.

One of the more irritating things these types of threads inevitably bring out is the segment of the playerbase which insists on telling me and others...

You are stupid and / or crazy, beyond help, etc., if you do Activity X b/c it is isn't real end-game. Instead, you should "build a bridge" / "just try other things, you might like it" / "move on" / and "play the game the way it was meant to be played", etc.

With as much respect as is due, I've been around the MMORPG block; I neither need nor desire your input on how to have fun in a leisure activity I pay for. You are not going to incentivize me to play content I don't enjoy. MMORPG history suggests you won't have much success with other players either. But, yes, we will "move on" -- though probably not in the way your patronizing posts intended.
