Returned 2 days ago and about to quit already

Last time I played was when those command crates were introduced and I really ground out some 270 commander levels.

I originally returned because I was playing KOTOR2 with the restored content pack and since this game is the only MMORPG that's left of the Star Wars MMORPGS, well I downloaded and played.

As a non-subscriber you're essentially treated like dirt and stupid me I thought, come on buy a 60 day card because...

the mind says "don't do it, why would you pay to grind, why would you pay to increase some artificial numbers in some computer system somehwhere? Don't be a sucker. Don't give them money." And the devil on my shoulders said "Do it, they have new content, after 1.5 years they've surely added quite a lot".

Well. No they haven't. Instead of what was a busy server cluster it got reduced to EU German, EU English, EU French, US. BOOM.

Content? 3 Flashpoints. Probably more, the one or other Operation or semi-operation ... idk. I haven't checked because it has been 2 days and PvP was enjoyable, well semi enjoyable and raiders are going to be raiders... I was a "pro raider" once. Back then we raided for fun. This generation of raiders are... not something I'd like getting into again.

What's interesting, I got put into winning teams for the first.. 10? rounds of PvP. And then all I did was lose aka put on the losing team. 18 lose streak. Then I got put on the winning team for 2 matches again.

I had GS242 is when I left and 1M credits. Now it's GS243 and 800k credits.

So I think to myself, what's there to do? I thought they at least added some new warzones. Oh yeah I saw 1 new warzone, a best of 3 warzone.

Where is the promised new stronghold where you can host PvP matches or whatever?

The site says something that isn't true at all.

Where is the new content?

1.5 years for 3 Flashpoints and short, uninteresting stories?

Man I've played Everquest2. Now this is a game on "still twitching but not quite dead, rehashed content, grind instead of story" mode. But even them manage to bring out an expansion each year. And I wonder how people put up with that. I still have 9 months of free game time and I'm not touching it.

And SWTOR?

There has been, not even 1 month worth of progress in 1 1/2 years by 3? people?

3 people were working on a game that had 500k subscribers at the time when it was turned into something that should've been banned. Loot crate roulette.

And it shows.

It can only go downwards from here. Image that for another 1 1/2 years. What will be new? 3 more Flashpoints?

It is quality work I have to say that much. The recent zone looks amazing, I want to go there and dig for treasure, my sense of adventure is sparkled. The train, not so much. Pretty boring, generic zone. I don't remember the Chiss zone oh yeah the Rishi clone. Yeah ok, not too bad.

Anyhow screw game politics.

Why I'm about to quit again...

I'm not in a guild

I have one main, or let's call it, one that has command tier 3, lvl287 now.

Playing the recent FP I found augment schematics, lvl240 , tank ones ( I didn't find them in the other 2 zones ).

So I decide to solo that Nathanema or w/e it's called zone again in story mode in hopes for more schematic drops.

Sure enough, another 2 tank augment schematics. I guess they really want people to play tanks. But my tank has GS224 or some low score and I'm not in the mood because when you're tanking you depend on a healer. And that means no "random group activities" because you take the beating, you die, you have to repair but the others don't. So screw grouping with randoms as a tank.

Right, so I check for more info about those 240 augments. Where do the offensive ones drop? Apparently...

in Master Mode Flashpoints, but no not just any Master Mode Flashpoints, only in the Nath FP.

At least that's what I picked up from the 5.9 announcement post and that russian guy's site, who is btw really bad a video editing and content creation. How about a table where you compare the 236 and 240 side by side? But hey he seems to have some secret connection to EA so w/e works right?

So it turns out in order to be able to craft even one of those augments, let alone find them I need mats worth about 6-7 mil credits. Are you serious? Are you *********** crazy? Are you insane?

You know, I'm semi on vacation right now. My power cells are full. I work a little (programming, websites, server side services) lay in the sun for a while, go swimming, life is good. I start KOTOR2 and yeah I'm not thinking it's a waste of time to play it again, especially with the restored content mod and I forgot most of the story anyway. Only Dantooine rings a bell.

And I run SWTOR. I feel some weight being put on me. Like a problem I have to solve. Work I need to do.

It's not a game, it's work.

I got that from EQ2 too a few years back.

You log in and instead of having fun with people, you grind, you work. You work your *** off. And you feel tired after a few hours playing it. And you're paying to work.

And I'm thinking. WHY?

Why am I doing this to myself?

For what reason am I enduring this again?

Why did I even pay for 2 months of this crap?

Because it's Star Wars?

That's it?

I'm playing Heroes & Generals time and again. It*s a WW2 semi persistent map, battle, war, grinder, fps, slow paced kind of game.

I like that game, that's why I always keep coming back to it, and I could've bought a month's worth of gold to buy a subscription, they had 50% off just recently (and SWTOR doesn't have those kind of offers, ever, maybe they do for cartel coins but those don't but subscription time). And I didn't do it, because I feel it's a waste of money. They equally do very little and expect high returns. They have an average player base of 5k. Not much but good for a FPS. And I'm not supporting them because I think they don't deserve it because they're barely doing anything but adding new helmets or came or weapon skins and not actual content.

But I like the game and I don't support them.

And SWTOR? It always had issues. I always felt that this game wasn't worth supporting because it was a lazy rip off of WoW and the game design decisions were wrong all over the place.

It's like they've never played a MMORPG before.

SWTOR is not a MMORPG.

It's a multiplayer game.

And SWG had to die for it, but that's another story.

So yeah to finish up.

I don't seem myself grinding 6-7 mil credits a piece for augments. You can't be *********** serious.

Grinding and running one and the same zone over and over and over again until I say **** you SWTOR and EA.

Idk if EA has stockholders but if it does then I'm glad I don't own any EA stock because as an investor I'd be pissed by those business decisions.

How can you let 3 people work (and assume they earn 30k / month combined) on a product that has 500k subscribers or at least it did when staff was reduced, 500k* even 10 is 5 million currency / month (€ or $).

How is that a good business decision?

How many are left now? 30k? less?

And in what timeframe?

So in 1.5 years the game went from 20 some servers, maybe more, to 5?

WHAT?

It's dead. There is no future for this game.

But hey I've seen big changes for the cartel market. This one is most important since it bring in the monies.

I know, there are people who will spend money on "virtual goods". They will buy a new stronghold and decorate it and they'll buy the interior with hard cash. And once they started it's like a drug. You justify your actions by buying even more. There are people who spend 1k USD and more on freaking crates in hopes of that one item that they're looking for to be unique and one of the few you own it. But they don't own it. All they do it pay for the right to temporarily access it.

What's left for me?

Grind CXP. Get that 248 gear. And then if I'm not completely brain dead, grind 6*amount-of-gear-pieces million credits to craft those 240 augments. IDK about you but I have better things to do than slavering my life away for virtual items that I don't even own. When EA decides that this game isn't profitable anymore it will get shut down like Age of Reckoning did. But their next project is, well not exactly around the corner but let's say public beta in 3 years, Camelot Unchained (I know it's not officially an EA game, but they've funded it largely). And in 3 years this game here will be dead. And we'll look back and remember the good times and forget about the bad.

I know this will get locked and hidden, just like they always do.

You could have figured all of this out without subscribing. It's all in plain sight on this forum, or reddit, or dulfy, as well as the SWTOR web site... if you cared to research a bit before you resubbed.... you know.. to see if you feel it is worth it for you to resub.

So what is your point here?

Where is the promised new stronghold where you can host PvP matches or whatever?

The site says something that isn't true at all.

The strong hold is Rishi. It can host pvp and even hutt ball type matches. You should investigate a little more or ask questions

Also there will be a new 8v8 map later this month. It is already being tested on the PTS. As soon as they finish that, it will be going live.

The new arena map was introduced first and was only 4 weeks ago.

The reason you won 10 matches in a row and then lost 18 was probably due to the new match making system trying to work out your skill rating. So those 10 wins in a row probably then got you put with rubbish players to carry them (thought you were really good) till it worked out your skill rating and then you got some wins.

The best times to come back to this game IMO would be the week new content is added. They nearly always have a double XP/CXP event. This is when you worry about grinding gear.

The last event, I took two of my Alts to 300CXP (both were around 200CXP) I also lvld 1 new Alt to 70 and and a second from lvl 20 to lvl 70.

There will probably be another double event at the end of the month when the new 8v8 map is released

Granted, the gear grind is still horrendous and the match making system is either broken or not working as they explained it would. Both of those puts a big cloud over pvp enjoyment and I could under stand you leaving because of them.

People really never get satisfied do they? Well, apart from one or two specific points I have little to complain about SWTOR as I frankly love the game and it's my favourite one out there. I'll gladly stay subbed and Bioware would have to do something really crazy to chase me off.

Lighten up OP, seems a bit to me that you are extremely hard to satisfy and please. Which is your prerogative of course but you won't find a lot of joy in life that way.

I just returned 2 days (ish) ago renewing my sub as well and I'm loving SWTOR again. Played for the first 4 years and then stopped playing for various reasons. Whoah there's a lot to take in again lol but it's good to be back.

Sorry it isn't happening for you OP but I'm having the opposite reaction! Maybe give it more than a couple of days :p

Not sure what's worse: the OP's thread, or all of you responding.... 10 credits (I'm good for it) this goes on for 7 more pages of walls of opinion text. Do you guys even play this game or just dwell in the forums?

for like 5 months of a 6 months sub I was subbing just to post. that was some years ago

Heh, I think it was good that the OP wrote this thread, it was basically a therapy session for him, he wrote down his frustration, problems, answered some questions to himself so I hope he felt better when he made this shout out!

Anyway, yes, swtor is as it is, but we have a saying "100 people, 100 different tastes" what some people hate, other can love. I play the game nonstop and always find a lot to do, actually it sucks that I don't have enough time to play everything I want (i am still working on fully running through the class stories). Anyway, just to answer some of things you had issues with:

These are the things added since you have probably left:

- New Uprisings and Master mode for all Uprisings

- Manaan and Rishi Strongholds (if you want them go to SH section on Fleet)

- Umbara Stronghold (if you want it you need to unlock by running the Flashpoint on Odessen base)

- Flashpoints Crisis of Umbara, Traitor Among the Chiss, Nathema Conspiracy

- Server merge, more people brought together

- Full Gods of the Machine Operation, Master mode is coming now

- There was an limited achievement event for Izax kill (last boss in new operation)

- Nar Shadda Casino event was in summer again with new rewards

- Groupfinder changes, role in need, heroic transports etc

- Lots of Conquest changes

- Lots of class balancing (yes I know, please don't comment on this)

- Many Companions returned

- New PVP arena map and new Huttball map is on PTS right now

There were quite a few minor things among this like the augments you have mentioned etc. Those by the way are random drops, so yes, you need to run the FPS quite a few times to get all the ones you need. I got them all when I was aiming for the 25x achievement, so it was no biggy, one run takes over 10 minutes with a stealther and rank 50 companion. Oh yeah, they introduced an item that makes your companion rank 50 instantly so that saves time. There were quite a few Quality of Life improvements like this too. Anyway back to your complaints.

- PVP is always unbalanced, you cant win them all, depends on whom you get in team

- Playing F2P is not that bad, I played for 6 months at start and still have many friends that play it and don't mind it, since you get the best part of the game for free, you can play it as a single player KOTOR 3 game, by slowly playing all class stories!

- Gearing is also easy, complaining about GC ranks is silly, you get gear from everywhere and very fast. You can be full 248 within a week if you know what to do

- Mats for the augments drop from more sources, best one is Group Ranked, which people farm for mats, no gear needed, no requirements, just get group, que and play. (MM FPS are actually not good for rewards)

- You don't have to buy anything from GTN, you can do it all yourself, just takes a little patience, Rome was not built in a day

The game is a partial grind, its an MMO, I mean what are you asking of the Devs? To give you new content every month in the magnitude of a Full Single player game? MMOs are about having a certain story, lore followed by a grind of some sorts for gear, reputation, then you have PVP and PVE stuff. You need to grind to gear up for the harder PVE and more competitve PVP. That is the principle of MMOs, this isn't single player KOTOR 2. Let us continue:

- Grinding credits is not that hard, do group ranked, get crafting mats and sell, you will make tens of millions in a few hours and in a week you got 100 mil before you know it

- EA has stockholders, they are a public company, they are not doing well, but every company has its UPs and Downs, so thats hard to tell

- There is way more than 3 people working on the game for sure, I would rather doubt the number of the subscribers you have used

- Cartel Market is being constantly updated, true, but they need to have a way to keep the game alive for us to play since the subscription model is not keeping up, so the CM has to stay if you do not want the game to die, it is pretty evident that the game is being kept alive by people playing space barbie

Lastly if you have better things to do in life, then please, do them :)

Let's not pretend that because we're satisfied, there aren't legitimate issues with the game both old and new. OP is extremely long winded and pretty over the top but i dislike when people toss it aside with "why can't you be happy? I am."

Sometimes it seems like the forums are the game for some of the more long time posters, if we're being honest.

There are issues with the game, I never said it's flawless. But the moaning, groaning and negativity on the forums is at times very tiring. True, the critiques offered sometimes are of value and I actually agree with them. However; most of the time I see criticism that is based on "Bioware didn't specifically cater to me, personally and directly because my expectations are insanely high so they're the worst developers ever". That's the kind of criticism that puts me off and makes me think "lighten up a bit, pall". Too many people just go into everything with too negative a mindset.

It also sounds like there's no game that the OP has that he actually enjoys playing. God's gift to MMOs wouldn't be good enough for him.

Cut bait already.

No, the OP is not the first writing such messages (however, much bigger than previous messages). Imagine new player or very old player returning back to game and what they see? Getting best gear through some tier 1-4 TWO TYPES OF vendors which demand TWO types of strange currency (UC and command tokens) then looking for drops of new recipes for best augments which mystically without any reason drop only from one flashpoint, then playing ranked pvp in trash gear or with trash augments to be able to get new mats which drop only from ranked and sometimes from command crates and then buying/getting other mat from gtn/hm operations.... And soon they will have to guess where to get latest tier gear which will be hidden in crafting where recipes drop from hm operations together with New mats.

DEVS said they remove old crystals from 4.0. because as they said they were "confusing" but the new gearing/augmenting system is THE MOST CONFUSING SYSTEM i ever saw in MMO history. There is no place for new players or very old players in this game anymore... Only those who stay here all the time can understand how this crap system works

Omaan,

Setting aside the rambling stream of consciousness writing style...The OP doesn't just jump from point A to Z. He then zig-zags randomly and hits every letter / point in the alphabet, sometimes returning back to a point already made.

If you have available to you brochures and a plethora of Websites with reviews of Nasty Dasty's Fanastic Remote Tropical Island Adventure and you choose to pay to go but then:

If you choose to write a scathing review that makes Tolstoy's War and Peace seem like a haiku about how you hate long flights, hate spending time in the sun, hate sandy beaches, hate surfing, hate swimming, hate eating seafood, hate froo-froo drinks with umbrellas, hate seeing hot guys in speedos, hate dancing to Cher, and have an irrational fear of sharks...

I'm not going to pay you much heed when that information was readily available with a modicum of research that you could have ascertained within 10 minutes.

TL-DR: Nasty Dasty's Fanastic Remote Tropical Island Adventure May Not Be For You

I would be fine if they would fix all the bugs. Or successes you could never create, repair or remove. There is no veteran mode for Kaon. Yes, I am petty, but I am always happy when I see the 100% sign. :D I already have 100% of the "smashed" uprising. In uprising - General - Veteran Mode is not checked. Edited by Batwer
