Unable to retrieve patch data.

Got it working and updated by only closing the launcher and quitting the remaining launcher process in task manager every time it did nothing and gave me error 308 and every time it stalled during the update process and gave me error 308. 95% of the time the launcher would do nothing for a few minutes and then spit out error code 308. It took me about 50 times seriously of quitting the launcher and reopening it to finish the update successfully. I would post my final log for you bioware, buts its 230KB, too large for the forums. Maybe I should have yelled so you all can hear,

I HAVE IT FIXED WITHOUT BITRAIDER

I decided to try my son's free account. After putting in the email verification code (he doesn't have a key code thingy) It is patching fine. So either not using a security key or not being subbed is working...... or both Needless to say I have bit raider disabled.

Once I patch on his account, I will try to play on mine.

I would guess that it's the security key. If you have a free 2nd account, try to patch with that one if it doesn't use a key. Or open a second account to patch.

This worked for me, I suggest the rest of you try this workaround as well!

Tried it. Closed the launcher and now the launcher doesn't even show up. Just runs in the background processes.

Managed to finally get in-game, but can't play for more than 2-3 minutes before client crashes with the following error:

I moved Launcher.settings file and patcher2014.version files then started the launcher. after it stopped each time I reset the PC and tried again. -about 4 times and it worked for me.

Managed to finally get in-game, but can't play for more than 2-3 minutes before client crashes with the following error:

Abort: Pointer is NULL
(.\shared\hashtbl.c/128)

It popped up for me but I hit OK and it went away. I'm also not on my 65 but on an alt (checking to see if the Trooper Chapter 3 was fixed - it is!) so maybe not being in the new story chapter saved me from tanking out.

Did the "exit launcher and kill process" 5 or 6 times as it stopped on 99 percent of every asset.. works now.

Really great job Bioware.. may i humbly suggest that the next programmer you hire has passed the Commodore 64 basic stage

I turned off the Windows Firewall; I flushed the DNS; I restarted it about a gajillion times.
Here's what worked for me:
When the error (finally) shows up, click on your name in the upper right corner, getting the dropdown menu. Click on "Settings" and the 3rd choice should be "Repair" and it should be live. Click on that and let it run. THEN restart the launcher (making sure it's closed in Task Manager) and it might / should now work....

After having resigned myself to no guild run tonight after all, I tried the launcher one more time.

Right now it's downloading "main assets". Fingers crossed it continues to behave itself.

If it is telling you only one instance is allowed, Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look for the launcher in the task list, right click it, and end process. It will then launch again for you.

Same here, after 99% on main data something it stopped patching and gives error 308.

Like, how am I supposed to get the may the 4th rewards when I can't log into the game because the patch is broken?

Like "Oh look at all the cool stuff you COULD get if we did our jobs here at dev team" (after that a picture of Tait watson and eric musco laughting their asses off.)

After trying the posted workarounds, I lost the launcher. The file is there but it won't launch the launcher. Checking TM it shows the Launcher running in secondary. Closing that and relaunching the launcher has the same effect. DL'd the SWToR files replacing the existing files had no effect. No Launcher whatsoever now.

I am having the same problem error 308 !!! I don't understand why I have an issue almost every time with a patch. Bioware what is up with this ??? Love that I am paying to sit and wait on Bioware to fix a problem that they cause !!!

I keep hitting reload and am at least comforted I am not the only one sitting around waiting for this to be fixed. Tech support said the problem should be fixed by the time I returned home from work. 41 minutes following my return, absolutely nothing.

I LOVE paying for a game I am not even allowed to play.

This ^^.....I don't even have a bar showing what % if any has downloaded yet, the play button doesn't work and that lovely 308 error keeps popping up. To add a cherry to it I now am getting the pointer is NULL message as well. The wonders never cease today.
