WildStar: Who's Been Playing?

Let's please try and keep this one clean. Keep the nerdrage to a minimum. This might come as somewhat of a shock to some of you but it is possible to like more than one game! (Gasp).

So this thread is not a bash SWTOR thread or a WS is going to kill SWTOR thread or anything like that. Just a discussion about the game and what you think so far. I'm planning on making the jump in a couple weeks after queue times are down and iron out some of the launch bugs.

But for those of you who have been playing, what's your initial feel for it? I played the open beta so have my own opinions, but now that the game is live, I'm interested to hear what you think. Also, how's faction balance? Is there more Dominion than Exile? Because I was planning on rolling a Cassian Esper.

I bought it played for about 2days off and on got to level 14 on a spellslinger exile human

Just couldn't get into it the questing seems tedious my character has no voice which felt abnormal and disconnecting after playing swtor for so long.

I didn't like the pvp with the combat system and felt the limited action bar Was limiting

The pve combat was ok and I liked the multiple bonus challenges in every zone, and there's alot to do in each zone

My character felt quite powerful from the get go and was able to round up and take on multiple mobs as most abilties were aoe and you get cc very early also which makes kiting easy and fun.

In games in mostly pvp orientated and I found it very lacklustre and one huge cluster of aoe mess..

For me I think I'll just play the new wow expac instead when it's released and swtor as even though its lacking in certain aspects The Combat and character animations are very unique and will always hold my attention.

I didn't play the beta and bought the game Sunday evening. I haven't played SW TOR since. Made a cute little Aurin Esper and she reached level 10 last night.

So far I'm really enjoying the game. Hours fly by without me noticing and that's been awhile since that happened.

I'm not into PVP stuff so I can't comment on that. And still have to figure out how to pick up crafting. Probably that quest I have in my log, we'll see. So far I'm having way too much fun exploring and having my little Scanbot do it's stuff. I play on the European RP PVE server and I haven't had a single queue yet. Other servers are suffering from that. Ranging from 30 minutes to 3-4 hours from what I've been reading.

I love the humor in the game. Die a few times and you get some very snarky comments flinged at you :D Graphic style is cartoony, but in my opinion it fits the whole thing perfectly. And what I also like that the game runs great on my 4 year old PC. While with SW TOR it has some serious issues.

I do see myself playing this game for a long time :)

Purpose of this question is not offence, or nerdrage, but to OP, why do you keep making WS threads here? Sure you can do so on Off-topic but why? Wildstar has forums too with many people willing to talk about that game. So why here :(

Because I would assume that he's more connected to the swtor community as wildstar is new and is asking for opinions

On the game from the community he's more associated with.

Wildstar is more of an mmo than TOR ever will be. I mean the endgame is extremely impressive, like the devs are already thinking of adding more raids in about a month I believe. The PvP is very engaging and they actually care about their competitive communities - you know, the ones who are actually supposed to be the bridge to make the game successful. Casuals are supposed to be the pillars that support the bridge, unfortaunetly TOR has it flip flopped.

With a name like that I smell a troll, but don't worry, you will soon rename yourself Wildstartanked.

Headstart and launch day were somewhat rocky but went way better than I had expected. There was some pretty bad lag on Tuesday night, but Carbine seems to have addressed that and last night was pretty smooth.

My Exiles I've put on Caretaker (2nd most popular NA PvE server) and my Dominion on Thunderfoot (least? popular). I've done this because we only get six character slots per server and my guild is focusing on Dominion. I've only encountered a login queue on Caretaker a few times during Headstart. I think I've seen one on Thunderfoot once but that was shortly before a server reboot and I was able to slip in as it came up. It looks like Carbine is ramping up their cluster capacity.

For the most part I don't mind the art style. My only complain is the hippy-dippy Aurin areas are off the deep end for me (Strawberry Shortcake does psychedelic drugs!). The engine is superior to SW:TOR's not the least of which they get shadowing right and it supports body part physics. Prurience aside, once you get used to it, it makes other games' characters look like plastic toys.

Where does it lack? It doesn't hold a candle to TOR's storytelling. Carbine's team of 20-somethings are rather in love with their Twitter-fied mission presentation. It's poorly made tappas where you were looking for a nice steak. It takes some serious work to wrestle the story out of the world. The story itself seems neat, but it's held hostage by their poor presentation.

The worse sin is that there's only one conversation path. You either do the mission as presented or refuse it. You can't mouth off to NPC's or pick a lighter or darker method to complete, you do it as written.

I'm still on the fence regarding Addons. At the very least they've allowed the community to correct several UI issues without waiting for the devs. (I highly recommend BijiPlates, GroupRadar, and JunkIt). At least Carbine has had the foresight to use an industry standard scripting language, Lua, instead of rolling their own.

I'm playing both. I have no qualms with supporting multiple games as I often do. However, Wildstar is really nothing more than WoW in space. Nothing special. What is going to hurt the game in the long run is the IP. This game has SW to fall back on, but Wildstar will not have the strength to be anything more than a niche game because it doesn't have a strong IP.

Basically it will go the way of GW2. People will play it in general and some will stay, but it will not hurt the core of this game.

I think this is both good and bad. A new IP can literally mean endless possibilities and is not restricted by the lore. The writers are making up the lore as they go along.

It's bad because it will have to work harder to get people into the game because no one's ever heard of it. It can't rely on its name alone to draw people in.

True. And there is a possibility that it might catch on and grow into a strong IP. WoW accomplished it but let's not forget that it built it's bones on a game that was already a huge hit with a huge following. So... you never know, but with the competitive MMO landscape I think it may be better to have a niche.

I've been playing WS using the friend guest pass. The leveling process is pretty bland, wholly uninteresting, and feels like a chore but I heard it gets better after lvl20. The combat is different- not better or worse than your usual tab target system.

The game should run better that it does given how it looks. I don't care for the artstyle or its brand of humor.

I'm curious to do a few dungeons. I have no interest in theorycrafting or endgame which I hear is quite grindy and gated with attunements. Having done lots of that old school style endgame back in the day I know to stay away from it because it gets old very quickly.

Just out of curiosity I took a look at WS. It seems hip and funny, and I like the sense of humor, but there are two deal-breakers for me: no VA and the art style. SWTOR ruined me on VA - I may never play another MMORPG that's not voiced. The art style is just.... well, too unreal. It makes SWTOR look photorealistic. And don't get me started on the female toons, I thought SWTOR's could have been a bit more realistic but damn... if you don't want to play as a breast-implanted pornstar on a month-long fast over there, you're out of luck.

I want to get into it but I'm finding it hard considering the lack of cinematics and voiceovers. I think it's mostly because SWTOR was the first MMO I've ever played, and it's just what I've come to expect as standard I guess, but instead it's unique in that regard.

I've got my Stalker to level 15, it's a fun game. I've been impressed with the level of detail and depth of a lot of the aspects of the game. The tweet style quest chirps are a little annoying at times, I suppose it's a step up from just reading text, but I almost never hear them because they go by so fast.

Now is the test, gold spammers are hitting Wildstar like crazy, and have seen some reports of botting. I got 100 emails of spam from 25 sellers today, you can ignore them but it seems they are capturing dozens of accounts. Carbine are saying they are banning people, but with no method for reporting people I don't know how they are managing it.

yikes... I was going to ask around if someone had one of those free 7 day trials... see if my impressions change between beta and now (been known to happen), but considering that bots and relentless spammers was big part of why I didn't resub to ESO (at the moment waiting on a word from a guildie who still plays, to see if the situation gets more manageable).. I guess I'm going to wait for a bit here as well.

I haven't seen any bots, but odd reports of people seeing them, spam can be horrendous

If you go check out the WS forums under pvp, you will see its more than just an odd report here and there. There are many people claiming the majority of people in battlegrounds are botting afk'ers. Some people have screenshots of 7 botters and only 3 real players on some matches, and 5 botters is getting to be the norm now.

Carbine hasn't even acknowledged what is going on, so many people over there are concerned that it might not be addressed any time soon.

I'm still waiting it out to see if I'll be heading there, but right now, I'm not very optimistic.

I have stopped playing for a few days, and keeping track on it via the forums/reddit, etc, I have started an IA class here so playing that through until I can decide whether to go back/stop subbing

Sounds like a pretty gross exaggeration. I've received less spam than I did in my first few weeks of SWTOR's launch.

Once CREDD goes live, lazy people won't need to resort to gold sellers.

As for bots, I really have no idea how bots could even manage in the game. If you don't pay attention to the telegraphs and move constantly, you're dead.

Bought it, played it, uninstalled it. Too childish for me.

Right...pretty sure you didn't.
