Good question. Got kicked about 4 hours ago. Then for 3 hours I couldn't login in. Was getting messages that the login server was unavailable. Many 208 errors and even had the game do a self repair, which didn't work. Then when I was finally able to log in I keep getting kicked every 5-10 minutes or so. Never had this experience before.

Been playing the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games since my early PC days (mid 90's). The thrill of trying to destroy a Star Destroyer with a slow as hell Y-Wing, while being shot at by a bunch of TIE Fighters is something I have never forgotten Went from the DOS games to the Windows 95 versions later on. I've leveled up a Guardian to 65 and I really like the Vigilance spec. Now I'm leveling up a Juggernaut as Vengeance. Just got her to 51 last night Same spec, different animations. But both loads of fun

You will also miss out on some titles. Sith won't get the Darth title for example. This made me ditch my fresh level 60 Juggernaut, and level one from scratch.

Only played Vigilance with my Guardian so far, and I'm absolutely steamrolling the Heroics with Jeanne. Just got to level 65 with the level 60 mods you can get from the level 60 vendor. Will be quite some time before I go for KOTFE. Because I have the earlier expansions left to do, and still busy with my class quests and planetary quests. Just started on Belsavis I've played a lot of Combat Sentinel & Carnage Marauder in the past. But my Guardian is just as fast as them, and has much better survivability to boot. Win/win for me When it comes to the other disciplines. Haven't tried Focus yet, because Vigilance works perfectly for me. And I have zero interest in tanking, so I'm not going to try that discipline either.

Been awhile since I leveled up my Sentinel and Marauder. But unless things have changed since 4.0. My Sent and Mara got their 2nd lightsaber at the fleet after selecting the advanced class through the quest there. Saber was in a bag which is placed in your inventory.

The Imperial Fleet is found in the same star map area where Dromund Kaas and Korriban are also located. Look for a little star base icon. It's on the southern edge if I remember correctly. I've been max level on my Legacy for ages now. And I don't think you've missed much along the way http://www.swtor.com/info/legacy has a nice listing of stuff which you can unlock. GTN terminal on each of my characters ships I found to be a must have. I'm always lagging on the fleet If I remember correctly you get most stuff way before level 50 Legacy. Only thing you get at 50 is the Living Legend title. You can set up a family tree if you like, and leave characters out by not dragging them into it.
