22 Character Per Server Limit.....Any plans to increase it?

Well I seriously hope they do expand the limit considering the combinations:

one of each class: 8 --> for each gender (*2): 16 --> for each alignment "light, dark & neutral" (*3): 48

and that is not counting race, variation of alignment plays, different romances and specialisations.

So I say the current 22 limit is not enough for players that like the story's of the game as well as experiencing the story by different approaches. Hopefully they can increase the limit or allow us to take character slots from servers that we personally wouldn't play. (on a side note when was "Togrutas" confirmed to be a playable race) :i_confused:

My math are more 16 classes*3spec = 48 toons... and 50 is better number than 48 ;)

People need more than 22 characters on a server? I have 7 and I can't manage them all equally effectively. I can't imagine trying to gear grind 22 characters or more.

The thing about altoholic mindset is that not all characters are created equally.

I have a main and a secondary character that are kept as close to optimal as I can (tried it with a 3rd character but it was just too time consuming) the rest of the characters are there for the story/ levelling content.

I like your maths.

You could also go with...

(((((((4 Classes * 2 factions)*2 Advanced Classes)*3 Specialisations)+8 Undeclared Classes)* 2 Alignments)*2 Gender)*8 Species)

= 1,792 slots

Go on you know it makes sense ;)

[Edit: How could I forget the specialisations  ]

Actually I would go well over 9000. No math needed, it just makes sense.

I don't get it? How do you have time for 22 toons? I have 10 and thx to this 12x XP Boost thing, i finally got 1 out of my last 2 lower leveled toons to 55 before that i hadn't played them in months and some of my already level 55s too, not for months.

I mean, i work and have kids. True, they aren't into Star Wars, most girls aren't, (THANK GOD) just means the game is all mine. lol So i figure you probably work too and have a family so, How can you have time for so many toons, plus want more?

Oh Well, as they say in, Italiano?

buona fortuna....

Thanks for having them investigate it!

I really hope they get this addressed. Not just as an altoholic but I have a couple of waiting characters I am leveling with friends who have been crit by RL.

----------

If they can't do anything, might I make a kludge suggestion designed to be quite doable. Allow a one-time payment (idk say 2000 to 5000 CC?) to remove or set to 1 CC the realm transfer fee. I would still have 22 characters on my realm - zero impact on performance. But a toon I am not playing for a month awaiting a friend to get through finals/job/vacation could be parked on another realm. If it is too hard to change the prices in a store, then leave the current fee for transfers unchanged but have a background task refund them for people who purchased the feature. I hope you can get a 22 character bump but my suggestion is almost certainly safer and cheaper since it involves changing no game code outside the store.

Oh, that's interesting! Swap characters out to another server while you're not using them / playing others. Nice, creative suggestion there.

I have been playing since early access and this is my form of entertainment. I don't do Ops or FPs. My endgame is to go and start another chr. Basically TV sucks so I play the game instead or watch Netflix. They have a lot of old movies so I do like that. I am old go figure. It isn't that hard.

With 22 on Ebon Hawk. I know I would be happy with a bump to 24.

Not all are fully leveled. Only once I reach a certain point in the story are any safe from deletion. I just get an idea for a name and create the character to fit the name and what they are to be. Happens way to much :D

You're talking apples and oranges there.

Sounds more like you're reading something into my words that isn't there. All I am saying is that it's encouraging that they solved performance issues before...not because I think it's the same issue but because they are actually solving issues.

It's not an issue of the number of characters in an instance or an op or whatever, as the character limit won't increase the number of active characters played by people at one time.

Thank you captain obvious, but why you mention this is beyond me because I never said this was the issue.

If I'm playing Character A, then I can't be playing characters B, C, D, etc. at the same time.

No kidding.

It's more an issue of the amount of data per account per server.

Your knowledge truly astounds me.

But honestly, where on earth did you get this wild idea that I needed this explanation? I really don't get how you got this idea from my post.

Baffling...

People like different things. To you it seems like a big grind but I enjoy making new characters and leveling them.

On the other hand I hate doing dailies. I do maybe 2-4 groups of dailies per week over all my characters because I can't stand them.

That feels like total senseless grinding to me. At least with leveling you get the feeling you're going somewhere. With dailies it's just the same old circle over and over just for some credits. I find money far less interesting than personal development I guess ;)

Well for one thing, if you want the full agent story you need 3, as there is a light side, and 2 different dark side endings, which is why I am running my 3rd agent.

Also going to have a 3rd warrior, one female married to Quinn, one male married to Jaesa, and a 3rd LS married to Vette.

I have 4 guardians and 2 sentinels, also a jugg and a marauder. Varying genders and alignments.

Sages and shadows and sorcs and sins.

More than a few commando + vanguards.

Believe me, we Altoholics can fill up the roster. ANd with 12xp I actually am nearing the time when all 22 of my chars will be end level.

wat data?

Like eh.

which character has done which missions and when,

which character has fought which epic enemy and when,

which character has done objective x to contribute to the completion of achievement y...

example:

toons divided over each faction. each collecting only a few datacrons on each planet. Each single character not collecting them all, but when viewing legacy wide, all characters combined collected all of the possible datacrons. Result is that you get the achievement for having found all datacrons. The only way to determine this on any single character is to query all the "has collected X, Y or Z datacron" data on each character.

need I go on? did you really think that all the stuff you completed in game isn't stored someplace in a database? together with a whole bunch of transaction log data in case a server wide rollback needs to be done?

Someone also thought that this would only be an issue when accessing e.g. the Legacy window. But this also happens during normal playing. because everytime you kill a mob or finish a mission, the counter that keeps track of this needs to be adjusted to keep track in your legacy on other characters. now part of the data will very likely be stored just once, but other data might still need to be saved for each character (legacy wasn't there from the start. so very likely some bits of information will still need to be saved on character level)

I doubt it is build that way. When you delete a character, they, I guess, transfer it on another database and conpress it. But all Legacy data stay on the active server.

Hey folks,

I know there have been a lot of questions about the 22 characters per server limit, why it is there, and any plans to increase it. I talked to the team here to get answers to that. When we increased the character per server limit to 22, it was decided at that time that 22 was as high as we could go without beginning to impact performance.

What I can tell you now, is that we know there is a solid demand for some players to be able to go above 22. Our team is very actively looking into whether or not we would be able to make this increase. Certainly, we want to offer you as many character slots as possible, but we have to make sure it won't impact your game performance as well. Caveat as usual, this isn't confirmation it will happen, but we are looking into it and I will give you any updates as I have them!

TLDR - That the cap is in place to guard from performance issues but we are actively interested in, and investigating, increasing that cap if we can.

-eric

Thank you very much!

Even if it's not confirmed to be happening, I'm very glad to hear that the team is looking into it! Something like this would be invaluable if it's feasible to do, especially now that more playable species are going to be released eventually.

Another reason to have many characters in addition to what many have already said for me is to make use of different looks with their gear.

It wouldn't eliminate my desire for more characters but instead of say pie in the sky wanting 50 slots I would be happy with 30 or so *IF* changing looks wasn't so cost prohibitive. We're talking 400k+ minimum to rip out mods from just about every piece of gear not counting bracers then installing augments into the new pieces. That doesn't include the cost of ripping out the augments OR buying/crafting new ones which would raise that even higher.

Of all my characters I only look at a handful as viable for certain things like operations and the rest are for dailies, datacron chasing, exploring, crafting, or just playing a different role/class than I usually do. There is then being good/evil/neutral as well as female/male are other options because your companions and npcs treat you differently based on race, class, and sex.

I get "decent enough" gear and call it a day at that point. My main - a Combat-spec Sentinel - has gear from Oricon except for his sabers. I RE'ed the hilt from one of the comm sabers and whipped up two more, threw them in my sabers so he does have two... 162 IR pieces, or something?

Not the best, but I'm in a guild that consists of me, one buddy who sometimes plays, and two more who haven't touched the game in probably two months. I don't do group stuff, so why bother gathering gear required for group stuff?

Oh yes, pretty please. And thanks for being on the case for us.

Ideally it would be nice if it happened some time before the 12x XP boost runs out so those with 22 level 55 characters can actually use it (I wish the 12x boost for class quests to level 55 would remain forever for those that pre-ordered (with an option to turn it off per-character, as it's so much more fun to level through class quests only, especially if you've experienced the planetary quests multiple times already).

Sure, database performance may suffer, but it's the same if people have multiple accounts and that can also be amended (database tuning, hardware upgrades, etc.). Everyone can only log in one character at the time, so server load shouldn't increase much and performance shouldn't suffer too badly.

I have a guild member that bought his 23rd and 24th character slot for the server and the game let him use them. He didn't know, and neither did I, until recently that only 22 characters were allowed.

Why would the game allow you to unlock slot 23 and 24 if only 22 are allowed? He has 2 slots that are grayed out now with no characters that can be used in them.

This have to be quite some time back.

as i tried to actually unlock a 23th slot and could not, the unlock item was just grey for me. and said this unlock had already been used. so seems that is not an issue anymore.

if your guild member can't count, why should the game do it for him/her?
