The weird people you meet in Group Finder.

Recommended Posts

I finally got an Ops queue without specifically meaning to. I was on my Commando and got slotted as healer (and ops leader) for SM 8 Terror From Beyond, along with Shadow and Guardian tanks, a Scoundrel healing partner, and a Watchman Sentinel, an Infiltration Shadow, and two Assault Specialist Commandos for DPS.

The tanks were geared and familiar with the op, but the other healer and two of the DPS were new to it. Luckily, gear wasn't much of an issue due to Bolster. The tanks and I are laying out the mechanics in chat and people are listening.

We down the Writhing Horror and the Dread Guard without complications. We had been a little worried about mechanics on the second, but all but one Doom went to me and when the last one went to the Sentinel, he went and got his puddles after a little urging.

Then we get to Operator IX. We have one wipe to Rectifier issues because the Blue team DPS (one of the Commandos) didn't realize that the adds would interrupt the channel, but we chalk that up as a learning experience. Take two, Blue handles things fine and we move on to Orange. The Guardian tank is standing in the circle picking up adds...and the Sentinel is merrily beating on the adds. Let's call him Jimbob.

"JIMBOB, PANEL"

"Jimbob, get the console!"

"Jimbob, channel!"

He just keeps hitting the adds. Orange runs out, we get a Rectifier, and we're still yelling at the Sent. Halfway through the second Orange channel Jimbob finally hits his panel, but we get a second Rectifier and wipe. (He at least acknowledged being stupid on that try.) A few wipes later, we finally get the execution right and get to phase 2 with Black Obtuse, which proves to be no trouble for us.

Did I mention that during the core burns, the Scoundrel was mostly solo-healing because I was running around trying to push a little extra DPS on the cores? It was pretty close most of the time, but he kept the tanks alive and I'd dump my big heals and refresh Trauma Probe whenever I was passing back through.

Kephess the Undying was wacky. Nobody really was sure what to do with the towers (I was rusty and the tank explaining things confused phase 1 towers with phase 2 towers) but we managed to drop about half of them on his scaly head. Jimbob the Low-Awareness Wonder Sentinel had to drop due to running out of time after that, so I asked a Scoundrel friend of mine if he wanted in, so he came and healed while I switched to DPS. One wipe due to derp (I'll admit to being bad at dodging Birthed Larvae and not knowing the phase 2 platform layout) but the second try went off without a hitch. Yay groupfinder!

Maxing out my slots on Harbinger, I decided to roll a gunslinger on Begeren Colony. Got up to lvl 40 with questing and regular FP (didn't want to do KDY as I was hitting every single scav nodes along the way). In the 5 days or so that I've been rolling on Begeren Colony in Flash Points, these are what I have come across -

- Hammer station sm - A lvl 17 sage that had no MH equipped. When I asked why, got the reply - I do not use it, I only need the force (which he depleted withing 15 secs of an engagement)

- Athiss sm - A lvl 20 scoundrel (proudly showing off "Living Legend" title) in full strength mods in everything except for barrels which had aim barrels. When I asked about the mods, got the reply - I'm a melee fighter so more strength means I hit better. And the Aim Barrels - Well duh! Its Aim, helps me hit better!

- Cademimu SM - Lvl 30 Commando in gunnary spec queued as healer and using nothing but kolto bombs to heal. not even hammer shot (on the other hand, spamming grav round quite nicely). When I asked why not using the other healing abilities, got the answer - I'm Havoc Squad! When I'm Around, **** dies from fear!! (while we caught upto officer xander, tank had already died 3 times)

- Cademimu SM (same run as above) - Lvl 30 Guardian Tank in Shien Form in full willpower mods. When I suggested he changes stance to Soresu so he can hold aggro and tank better, got the reply - Dont need it, my tanking style is to burn things before they burn me. I'm a Jedi Master, forms are unnecessary. By the time we got to officer Xander, he had already died 3 times.

- Taral V - lvl 33 Gurdiand Tank, lvl 34 sentinel, lvl 31 sage healer and myself at lvl 34. We went on a mass wildlife genocide. Absolutely nothing escaped our wrath as we massacred every mob, every trash, every local fauna that was unfortunate enough to be within eyeshot. tank and sent zealously engaged weak mobs as strongs and elites ran rampant and pounding the healer. This usually ended up in me tanking everything. Gunslinger Tanks...ftw...

- Maelstrom Prison - lvl 37 guardian tank who had 5 out of 7 empty shells (literally no mods in them), a green willpower saber and quite possibly no off hand (never saw the shield's bubble when it proced). He was also not in Tank tree, as I never saw defensive procs from blade storm. But This may also be because said tank never used blade storm, master strike, force sweep, or leap. He RAN to his targets and started swinging away with his saber. There was not a care in the world he was only holding aggro on the individual he was whacking away, rest were chewing me up (speed shot ripped aggro off him straight away)

- Maelstrom Prison (from above) - lvl 38 sentinel with empty head slot, Green Willpower chest and legs, empty cartel market belt, 2 orange willpower sabers and empty cartel market boot shell. when I asked about his gear, got the reply - "I've got a hood on, don need anything else on my head". What about the willpower chest piece? "I'm a Jedi *******!!" Almost forgot to mention - need rolling on everything, green blue, orange, wrong stat, didn't matter. lost 2 implants to this magnificent sentinel.

- Maelstrom Prison - lvl 40 Sage healer who used nothing but Deliverance. This sage's rotation was literally Deliverance > Wait for full force > Deliverance. Tank and sent dps had already died 5 times even before we got to colonel Laser Eyes, while commenting on how awesome a healer this sage was. Upon checking the gear on this uber awesome sage, noticed 3 slots out of 7 were green gear, rest were empty shells. the light saber was the starter planet saber with the mods unchanged since acquisition.

Looking back at the events I mentioned above, it seems I was always the odd one out - following Kill order, having correct up to date mods in my gear etc. I was even told that a non force sensitive person such as myself have no grasp of how the mysterious ways of the force works.

I don't think I'll be hanging around Begeren Colony for too long.....

Well, good thing I covered my bases then :ph_lol:

PS: What server? Cause that is definitely some Harbinger-level stupidity right there.

Having never once run an op on any of my three lvl 55s, i don't know what was wrong with it....

I had another nice GF Op run today. TfB, 8m SM. I entered as DPS on my Commando in Assault spec, barely geared with 156 gear from Oricon and a few 148s I crafted being Cybertech for belt and bracers. Of course I had a 148 offhand too, hard to get better, sadly. :o

I found a Guildie of mine there on a Scoundrel Healer, which was quite good news, since that's a friend of mine and I know that at healing he's great, especially on that char. First hand experience. ;)

So, we began with no issues, in thrash mobs we cut like a knife in butter: no deaths on our part, no critical HP, no issues.

On the first boss again no issues, but I find myself Energy starving once, a constant of boss fights for me, it seems. Switched to Gunnery after the Op though, so we'll see how that goes.

Still, no problem whatsoever on any boss.

We downed the three Dread ones, without real issues.

We defeated Operator IX with a Rectifier on, because we missed a phase - unsure which one, all I know is that it's not Blue because I was there doing my part... :p

Kephess went down on the first try, as well as the Terror.

Good drops made me happy, because I actually won a 162 rating offhand. :)

At any rate, my Guildie is geared a lot better than me, and since a couple of others in 180s seemed to Need on every token drop, he began Needing too and trading the stuff to me afterwards. In the end after we cleared the Op I had a new pair of boots, a new headpiece, an offhand and a new pair of gloves.

So, what was weird there? Well, for the first time in my experience, the ones that Greeded on token drops actually whispered me that my Guildie and others were ninjaing stuff off me! I had to tell them I noticed and that my Guildie, that for some sort of lucky moment won all those rolls, traded the stuff to me. Of course, I had him stop doing so again, after that... :D

Still, this is the first time I see people get worried because of that! Really, what's going on? Where are the bads that seemed to infect Operations and FPs lately? May they have been smart enough to stop it and begin becoming proper players? I sincerely hope so! :)

It pretty much says "looking for people for the hardest mode of a communication-heavy operation, we have no experience or voice chat"

Real world equivalent: "looking for deaf people who have never seen a basketball before in their life to take on the NBA all-star team"

Had an interesting conversation a few days back.

Zone into The Foundry on my level 38 Lightning Sorceror. Full glowstick party: Jugg Tank, Jugg DPS and Sorceror Healer. Say "hellos" and start moving.

The healer says, "Hey *mycharactername*, you should help with healing."

Me, "I don't agree. I won't ask you to help with DPS."

Healer, "But I might run out of force."

Me, "That should only happen if you aren't specced for healing."

Me, "But that isn't the case because you queued as a healer, right?"

The healer said nothing else for the rest of the run while healing using only Dark Heal and Dark Infusion. Not a HoT was seen during the whole run.

;)

Indeed, and while I've had run ins with noobs here, I've only recently run into an obstinate noob:

Hammer station, I'm a healing as a Sage, Guardian tank, DPS are a Sage and Gunslinger (IIRC).Gunslinger is way overgeared and overleveled, so I ask the tank to take guard off me and put it on him...

"Guard already is on the healer"

"Yes, I don't want it ;)"

We now interrupt this discussion and take on the difficult pack at the very beginning. I mark one of the elites and say I'll CC, other sage CCs it first and starts combat, CC instantly gets broken, (I think by Guardian jumping in and AoEing) during the fight, the DPS rips aggro off the tank, and I have to work overtime to heal both him and the tank. After the fight the tank complains about someone taunting. Hmmm....

I repeat my request to put guard on the DPS, explaining that it mostly is for reducing threat. Tank continues to say guard on goes on healer, end of story. At this point, one of the DPS (the non-overgeared one) just leaves the group. I say whatever, we're overgeared enough to survive... We finish the FP pretty easily after that, but the tank again complains about people taunting, saying that his taunts are being "overpowered."

Now, as a tank, I used to always guard the healer, and it wasn't until someone explained to me how healer threat generation was so small that it didn't really matter about taking 25% off of it, so after the FP I try to explain to this tank about how to use guard.

He's like "I usually play healer and I like being guarded, don't tell me how to play, I don't tell you how to heal"

I respond "Just because you play a certain way doesn't make it right"

"Drop it or I'm adding you to my iggy list" (Oh, soooo scary)

"If you won't to take it from me, just look it up"

"I'm not looking ********* up"

That's one person whose ignore list I'm happy to be on.

Looks like you ran into another clueless/stubborn tank who always guards the healer and refuses to take advice or learn :). Also I don't know why he would complain about someone taunting because as far as I know sages and gunslingers don't have any taunts at all. So in your case this guy is just another clueless tank .

Exactly ;)

I'm sure these "taunts" were just just high damage abilities from an overleveled/geared player.

Just right click the Guard icon in your buff bar.

Some tanks will get angry about it but most of us just put it on someone who doesn't care. :)

I mean, if he's not going to guard anyone else, I'll take the 5% damage decrease, it's better than nothing. ;)

The only thing better than that is the Marauder taunt. Mara taunt way2strong.

The sad thing is, so many people complain about this.

And it's true that Maras sometimes pull wayyyyyyyy too much aggro. I usually have to repeatedly use my aggro buster thing (the tempstealth thingy) during boss fights...

But people have to learn that Maras don't have tank stances....

Blah Mara/Sent burst aggro is nothing compared to Vanguard/PT post buff and you have 100% aggro drop so no excuse there. They don't have 100% aggro drops.

Other thing is completely incompetent tanks of course.

Just for info.. 100% aggro dump work only on the mobs actually targeting you... Not on everything.

I wait that one tank says to me "stop taunting" when i play with my Mara :p

I do mention it for that reason... as hilarious as it is, I've seen people accuse Marauders of taunting. Then again, on the other end of the spectrum, I've seen Juggernauts and Assassins taunt and then claim they stole threat over me. Never Powertechs, but then, I never seem to see Powertechs in group finder queues (for whatever reason).

Same here I think powertechs are starting to become rare because most of the time that I go through group finder I see alot more mercenaries then I do powertechs.
