The weird people you meet in Group Finder.

Recommended Posts

Next one is already coming. They are "I hate AoEs" specialists.

Can't wait for the 'I am sentineltank/maraudertank' specialists in 2.8 ops. Oh wait, they already exist..

But seriously, groupfinder ops is gonna be great for this thread.

So what is next, tactical operations? 16 tanks ftw!

WHO DO I CALL OUT?!?!?!?!

- Raptus, Post June 10 2014

Also, I think Pyro Tanks are gonna be a lot more prominent - Pyro PTSs are already a massive aggro whore, and they're about to be as FOTM as Madness or as Annihilation... just with less set up time.

That and I actually have tanked all SM operations in Assault Spec on my vanguard.

All I've done is skank tanked with my PT/Vanguard Pyro/Assault in Warzones and arenas, but I ran into some heat management issues on account of the Prototype Particle Accelerator being tied to CGC.

I guess the first mass class from the Kuat Drive Yard academy has graduated lately, because over the last few days I've been running into people asking, in HM FPs, "where are the healing stations?"

Welcome to the real FP world graduates! :D

Please tell me you are exagerating? A little white lie for the thread? PLEASE?

No?

Looks like I will need to drink more when I do PUGs for my weeklies.

Why not? I've seen two Guardians do 16man/8man content.

My previous stories were to share my fun and surprise, not to vent... this one though is here for the last reason of the three. :(

I was questing with my low lvl Assassin Tank. Gotta learn how to it properly, so I decide to queue for a FP as Tank only. I get a team in like 15 minutes, but no biggie. We have a Sorcerer healer, lvl 15, a dps Assassin lvl 21, me at lvl 20 and an Operative that drops group as soon as he spaces in. FP was Hammer Station.

Ok, not a gamebreaking issue, I queue us up for a replacement right away. As I ask for a moment to do so, the other assassin starts pulling every enemy in sight. Heck, I die on the first pull, which is kind of hard to do, and the sorc struggles to keep her alive but manages at the price of himself.

Now, as I resp, I notice the other assassin is in tanking stance, so I ask to switch to another one. No answer. I get a guard instead, which I click off. That goes on the WHOLE FP.

We get to the first boss and manage with my Khem in dps stance, but the boss drops mara skirt, which the other assassin needs on. I ask her to be more careful, then go on, with that damn assassin pulling all enemies in sight every time. Skippable? Pulled. Away from path? Pulled. Hidden, hard to see if you don't actively look for it? That's right, pulled. All the while the sorc does his best, though I can see lightning tree procs - I have a lightning sorcerer myself, so I know.

At any rate, even though the guy is being a pain, I never kick unless the team can't proceed because of that. Next boss, willpower chestpiece drops. We all need, and I get it. I don't have better, but I practically drown in comms, so I ask the sorc if he wants it. He says no worries, keep it, so I do.

We go on with the other assassing breaking CCs constantly even after my explanations, chainpulling and going berserk everytime something red is on screen.

As we get a replacement before the bridge with the 2 turrets, I ask for a moment so the new one can catch up. The new one is a tank jug in tanking stance. :D

We down the 2 turrets, and the jug - new player, but willing to learn - falls down the bridge. I ask to wait again, but nope. Assassin goes and pulls the droid while we're still resting and the Jug is far away. Ok, this made me close to the limit, but ok. I get to the chest hidden to the left, and the assassin needs on everything.

Limit reached, I start a kick vote on the guy and it goes through. Reasons: ninjaing and not pulling with the proper criteria.

We get a replacement right away, a marauder. Now, I do my best to explain the jug how to switch stance, and in the end he manages.

The last boss is a breeze, though I get to push adds down aswell as tanking.

After that, goodbye, cyas and so on.

Now, I feel bad because of that kick, after all fhe guy DID miss the quest because of it... Any opinion on it? Was I a d**k? Or did I do right?

Because I DID ask for a stance change, to no avail. I DID ask to stop guarding me, to no avail. I also asked to stop pulling like crazy, again to no avail. And I DID ask to stop ninjalooting after that mara pair of pants was ninjaead... but it doesn't make it better. :(

Ah yes, the Voss friend. She also got ignored for like 30 seconds in the first try. Having the tank on Velasu isn't the biggest deal, but ignoring Drinda is asking for trouble. For anyone wondering why, Drinda Zel can be taunted but will not stay on the tank throughout the fight.

Yeah on my tanks I usually concentrate on Velasu. Unless the dps ignore Drinda, in which case I'll taunt Velasu and attack Drinda.

I think you made the right decision on that vote kick. Because when a dps pulls ahead of the tank it can sometimes cause lot's of trouble. Because it most of the time forces the tank to use all his taunts to get the aggro off the one dps that pulled ahead.

Plus I don't think you were a d**ck for kicking him for ninja looting. I would kick a ninja looter in an instant. They are the only kind of people in the game I actually hate. They hit need on crap their class can not use. It's so frustrating when I was in an fp group the one time and a piece of dps strength gear dropped and it was medium armour I hit need on it for my sentinel and I don't get it! :(

Turns out the one commando dps in my group ninja looted it! boy was I mad . Do some people not know the difference between need and pass? And yes that's right a commando hit need on a piece of strength gear . I whispered him on why he hit need on it and his response was ''for money'' . So I initiate a vote kick on him reason: ninja looting and it goes through and he is removed from the group.

And yes he was also hitting need on all previous gear drops as well.

I wonder about these people that don't seem to respond to chat prompts by team members.

Was in a KDY where 3 of us were all trying to communicate with this sin tank in lightning charge. It got to the point where we started saying stuff like, "why isn't he responding" and "i wonder if he can read". He said 3 comments the entire time: one at the start, one after the first round, and one right before the boss, none of which were any kind of response to the rest of us. Strange.

Some tanks change to dps stance in KDY if group isn't good. I do it often.

- One or two of group members only spam two basic attacks

- Vanguard/PT/scoundrel/operative who thinks he is ranged only

- If group members aggro multiple groups of mobs at same time (this is often reason for me to change to dps stance, because "if they want to tank I won't stop them")

In groups like that you're most likely going to die in Elite Defender fights if there's no healer around.

HM Czerka Labs

Had a shadow dps that was spamming Force Wave on cooldown. As I was tanking, this was a real problem because he kept pushing mobs out of my range and forcing me to reposition. Politely asked him to stop using FW a few times - no reply. I finally got his attention after standing still for half a minute and responding to his "tank?" with a question why he was using FW. Answer? "It's in my rotation."

Now, I've seen some downright crazy and stupid things in this game but this one caught me off-guard. I inspect his achievements, realise he's a newish player fresh to 55 and I decide to take a civilised approach. I start explaining how FW is not a part of rotation for anyone, let alone an infiltration shadow. I explain why using knockback is bad when you're a melee dps.

Apparently, my civil demeanor gets translated to "someone to troll and abuse" because he starts with insults, keeps spamming FW and starts engagements before me. This is all fine by me because I realise he's just a wannabe troll. We get to the final boss, the CEO dude or whatever and 20 seconds into the fight I see the shadow opening tanks. He's running around the room and has opened all eight tanks. Healer gets ganked ASAP, commando dps goes down, then the shadow that opened the tanks. I run into a corner and stealth out. The shadow dps is bragging and laughing how he wiped the team deliberately. I immediately initiate a vote kick and ask the team to vote.

The shadow starts trolling even more, the two members go in "let's not kick him, it's final boss" mode and ignore the vote which fails. I figure they obviously like to be trolled and abused so I zone out and start doing Czerka dailies. Two minutes later, they're all "tank, come back, let's finish". I inform them that I have no desire to play with someone that's wiping us deliberately and that they're free to vote kick me. Srsly, tank queues are non-existent and GF pops instantly. The shadow realises he has nothing with which to leverage me into rejoining and leaves.

Requeue, get a new dps in five seconds. Kill boss. Shadow gets ignored on three tanks and a healer. gg

I hear you. Tanks are really a dying breed. Shame really. I have 4 55 tanks and I've slowly stopped pugging with them. I mean there's not much point to play a 55 tank unless you're in an ops guild. 55 tacticals...seriously. Slower levelling/killing/dailies and some of the attitudes in pugs...ugh. Once again, I blame KDY Academy and Bioware's constant catering of super casuals.

Noy that I am a fan of this KDY thing, but I can understand why they do it. Those casuals are the majority of the game and probably the majority of the income.

Got no facts to support this, but I am confident that this is the case.

You are without a doubt the most patient tank in any FP I've ever heard of. Allow me to give you some times when it's good to kick a player.

1. When the Shien form jug DPS queues as a tank for a 55 HM

2. When said Jug Dpstank has only 25K Hp.

3.When upon closer inspection, he has some willpower because "I'm a Sith lol. Willpower = More FORCEZ!"

4.When the Jug Dpstank's response to you calling him out is "**** noob, I've cleared Nim DP 100 times

with my guild. My main is the raid leader of "Top Harbinger's raiding guild" I know what I'm doing!"

Should you decide not to kick, be prepared with:

1. Stealth abilities, so you and the real DPS can watch said tank die...and die...and die

2. Time, so you can watch his attempts to wipe the group fail miserably as the real Dps clean up his messes.

Now, after all that, the real question is, when to kick? Well....

1. After his attempts to ninja-loot fail as the DPS A

and you counter-need.

2. After said jug Dpstank has probably about a 100K in repairs from his wipes.

3. Right before the final boss so you can pull out Treek who *gasp* taunts and holds aggro!

Thanks for the answers, I feel better now. :)

As a tank player since day 1 of my online gaming experience, I always felt it was my duty to help others with group content, thus I always took my time researching tips and guides before entering first time. I call myself an experienced tank mostly because of that, and the fact I actually managed to enter almost everywhere teams are needed - apart from DP, apparently 162+ is severely undergeared for it. :D

I also play a fair share of dps chars so I can know others' issues, and perhaps help them. Aswell as healers, though my 2 are still lowbies - tryed as sorc, and it's not my thing, sadly... now working on merc and scoundrel.

The reason I feel bad at kicking is, that I actually am forcing a guy that may not have grasped game rules as well as I have to redo content because of that, wasting time. As I said, I tend to compensate that kind of situation, and kick only if there's no chance to proceed otherwise. Like if we have a dps queued as healer in a fight that requires a dedicated healer to win.

The insights have been extremely helpful, because now I realized, that a shock of that kind actually has a chance to make those ppl try to understand what they did wrong. So, thanks. Kicking will not become a habit of mine for sure, I am kind of patient, though of course I may not feel as bad as I did this time, if I have to punish someone's behaviour. :o

I like tanking and helping new and inexperienced players. After being around for two years, I feel I have enough experience to contribute with advice and knowledge of the game. Alas, only a handful of people take this advice the way it's intended - friendly and constructive. Most often they get real defensive and abusive.

I'm rather easy-going and friendly most of the time. Some people misinterpret this as a sign of weakness and an invitation for abuse. It always backfires. :D

Don't get me wrong, I love tanking. But as you say, helping people has a tendency to anger people quite quickly. I went through the helping phase way back when I was playing WoW. After 8 years combined tanking experience from both WoW and SWTOR the trouble is finding a way to share all of that experience with out coming off as either elitist or condescending.

Get burnt enough times and you realize the ignorant remain that way because they're too lazy to teach themselves and too arrogant to ask for help.

The way I see it, kicking should be a last resort unless the player in question is ignoring advice/instructions or being difficult deliberately. The other day I was in a HM FP where a Slinger was being rushy, pulling ahead of the tank and playing too aggressively for the tank's liking. After a while, the tank simply asked him to stop being annoying and playing tank. Slinger complied, FP finished smoothly.

I've tanked for groups with aggressive DDs. It's somewhat stressful, but if the group's overall competence allows it, I adapt and try to keep up. If for some reason I couldn't deal with the pace, I would inform the group. Now, if some little jerk thought it would be funny to rush ahead and spam Overload just for the heck of it, they'd be staring at a vote kick in short order. While I try to avoid making things difficult or unpleasant for other people, I also have a low tolerance for stupidity and rudeness. The day is too short to try and accomodate ninjas, trolls and jerks.

Is it wrong that on my 55 Vanguard in Dread Forged Gear that I ignored the fight mechanics on Lt Whats-his-face for KDY because I just hit Hold the Line as the grenades were about to explode so I wouldn't bounce, just so we could kill him before the third grenade launching (they did ~10% damage ok!)?

(I got KDY cause I was doing the tactical FP daily for basics)
