how would YOU handle population imbalance?

lets face it, the main issue with ilum is the fact that on most servers one faction outnumbers the other, which only compounds the issue by making the losing faction start to leave, and drawing in more of the winning faction for easy victory.

if you were given absolute power over trying to fix this issue how would you handle it?

you can not

-force faction changes on people.

-force server changes on people.

this is not a thread to criticise/praise bioware on how they are handling it, only about how YOU would do it.

It's impossible so long as anybody can go into the zone at any time. The best fix is to instance it and make it a warzone. (Or the fake instance that Blizzard has with Tol Barad/Wintergrasp, where it's still population controlled despite being outdoors.)

If you really want "open world PvP", this is what you get in a two faction game. There is no fix. You can try to bandaid it by giving buffs to the weaker side to try to make it at least playable, but that's the extent of it. As it stands now the imbalance will get worse because Republic players will quickly learn that going there at all is a waste of time.

lock faction creation if its imbalanced problem solved. theres no pvp in a game where you have to wait 2 hours for queue is there

And then your PvE players are furious that they can't play with their friends because you locked creation on the side they wanted to play on, and they quit in a huff. Population shrinks in a hurry.

That's totally not workable because this is not a PvP only game.

Make it three faction PvP. I.e. create 3 cartells fighting over Ilum, and chars must join up with one of those cartells and will have to fight the other two without regards to faction.

Hutt Cartell

Czerka Corporation

Whatever

Implement a standing system that makes it a helluva grind to change your allegiance, and make it so that the two weaker factions are encouraged to combine forces against the current dominating one.

Fix animations and the rate damage goes out for mirrored classes. I.E. Trooper vs BH with unload and full auto, Jedi consular vs Sith Inquisitor project vs shock, etc.

While it may not seem like a big deal, I personally know 8 people from my guild that switched to empire after starting out republic once they found out about the differences. They are people that like to be the best they can be in a game and decided to if they wanted to play the advanced class they wanted to play they might as well go with the version that is better.

Give the lower pop faction a clothing color palette that isn't brown or various tones of excrement and actually make their classes true mirrors of the other.

Oh the foresight of these developers...

These guys could sink the Titanic even with advanced sonar.

free transfers to the low pop side with a bonus for doing so.

What would the bonus be?

free month?

free 10 valor ranks?

idk

how about no 2hr queues for huttball only.

how about a bonus for the factions that are fighting 3:1.

Have both factions be the bad guys and have exactly mirrored classes on each side. The only difference would be one side uses Magic and the other side uses Technology sorta like Rift but with both sides CLEARLY being the bad guys. None of this grey area point of view crap. One realm would always be night time and the other always be day time so people have a choice :D

Here is what I would do.

When one side outnumbers the other by a huge amount, give a buff to the other side.

That way if it's 50 on 10, the 10 could hold their own. True it may cause some imbalance issues here or there, but I think it would help out things a lot, it's a lot to ask from a huge area zone. But it could help to give a buff to the other side at least till numbers even out.

But if that's the case what's to stop one person going 1 on 50 and raid bossing them all -_-
