I, as a customer, feel offended that somebody is presenting me a product that is so poorly designed.

You should feel ashamed to sell me something like this

But i love the warzones, the space combat (i lose all the time but it is still fun).

I played my first operations yesterday, and it was amazing, beautiful designs, well thought mechanisms, surprising turns, etc...

I lo e how you dont allow macro carebears be just as good as me with mouseover crap.

Just do that auction house, illum, and remove Expertise.

oh, and associated issue? SPLITTING STACKS. while you're working (PLEASE!) on revamping the gtn ui, PLEASE also change the way we split stacks (yes, this is a part of putting auctions up for me!). shift-drag with left click? right click? HUH?? where did you guys EVER come up with shift-drag??? this is cumbersome, prone to "mistakenly" being inserted into chat box, and makes me throw it all in my cargo hold rather than doing what i NORMALLY do, which is split stacks and make money.

please? and again, EXCELLENT topic/presentation -- thank you!

*I haven't seen a big thread focused on this issue, so I'm making one. I'll edit in more problems/fixes as they are suggested to me via this thread.*

The problem: The Galactic Trade Network is absolutely terrible. The UI sucks, the search features suck, posting an item sucks, searching for an item sucks. It basically sucks as an entire entity. I'm not bashing Bioware, Starwars, EA, or LucasArts. I'm simply being honest. Those of you familiar with WoW will remember that they had a very good auction house which was not only functional, but user friendly as well. No, I'm not sucking Blizzard's nuts. I'm being honest. No, I don't really want to go back to WoW, I'm not leaving Star Wars quite yet, and you can't have my stuff.

*A note to the fanboys who will inevitably defend the current implemented Galactic Trade Network*: Please don't. I beg you. There isn't anything good about it to defend, you make yourself look like a blind fanboy, and you aren't doing the game any good. This game isn't flawless, and it needs suggestions so that things can be fixed and the game can be improved.

With that disclaimer out of the way, let's get to what the problems are and how to fix them.

The problems and how to fix:

1. The drop down categories(armor type, rarity, level reqs, etc) should be for NARROWING DOWN EXISTING SEARCHES, not confining what you may search for. Which brings us to #2.

2. We should be able to search by name FIRST. I should be able to type in exactly what I'm looking for, click buy, done. It's that easy.

3. If I'm listing multiple same-item auctions, PLEASE have it memorize what my price was. If I'm leveling up my crafting skill and I made 20 Random-Blue-Chest-Piece-of-***-Kickery, please for the love of all that is Star Wars let me only name my price once rather than making me type the price in 20 times. That is way too many clicks and key presses.

4. Include an armor SLOT drop down. Helm, gloves, chest, legs, etc. If I'm looking for a Purple Medium Armor level 47 BOOTS, I shouldn't have to search through pages and pages of chest pieces, leg pieces, and helmets to find it.

5. This is going to be an extension of #1 and #2. Without being able to search for items by name, we can't truly have a free market. Part of being in an mmo is a player controlled market. Love it or hate it, there will always be those who find it truly fun and rewarding to make gold(or credits) through buying low, selling high. In short, playing the market. If you don't like the idea of players making money through the Trade Network, I suggest you get over it. Whether you like the idea of government-controlled prices, or you are just too lazy to practice and get good at it yourself, you can't stop it. Even if players have to sift through pages and pages and multiple tabs of items, they will still find ways to do it, even now. It's part of this genre. It's difficult, time-consuming, and high-risk, but can be rewarding. Sounds pretty balanced to me.

6. PLEASE LET ME SHIFT-CLICK AN ITEM TO INPUT IT'S NAME IN THE LITTLE BOX SO I DON'T HAVE TO MANUALLY TYPE IT.

7. Can't filter for Orange or "Custom" gear.

8. Can't ctrl+click schematics to see what the finished item looks like in the dressing room.

9. GTN should save your last search upon window close.

10. Companions returning from missions auto-close your GTN, mail, and vendor windows, causing you to lose your work. Should automatically go to "Pending" when those windows are open.

11. Some of the items are currently being listed under the wrong categories. For example, Underworld Trading Fabrics are being listed under Diplomacy.

12. The current system inserts a "1" when the default price is deleted. This means we have to type the price we want and then delete a useless "1" that we didn't ask for.

13. Implement a "Not already-known" checkbox. When searching crafting patterns, it lists all of them, even if known already. There should be an ability to filter the patterns so we DON'T see the ones we already know. It would also be nice if we could filter patterns for specific slots (if we are looking for only chestpiece patterns, we should be able to filter so we ONLY get chestpiece patterns).

14. Someone mentioned there was a 50 item cap for listing auctions. Really? This definitely needs to be increased.

15. Currently, we go AFK while using the GTN. This should not happen.

That's everything off the top of my head, please feel free to comment and I will add your suggestions to the post. Let's give BioWare some good ideas on how to change the Trade Network and improve this game! If you want to be negative and troll, I don't have much to say to you. But thanks for the bump.

Well done, that man!

You saved me having to sit here and work these out then post them!

To "Divinati" well done mate, those are properly pointed out and all logical reasons to dislike the GTN. It completely doesn't make sense how in a massive auction house serving the needs of countless players one can not simply "search" for what item he desires.

Also the "1" phenomena is totally beyond me, i can not understand why that 1 is present there and we have to keep deleting it. No need to say more, i couldn't point out the problems better than you did. Bioware needs to upload a patch addressing all these problems and get it done properly.

just make the interface and utility like eve online. it's a tried and tested system.

Yes please do this, I to want to compete against market bots that update their buy/sell orders within seconds of me posting mine.

GTN is neither fine nor garbage. Comon people, features you request are partialy only in the last expansion of WoW.

The real baddest sing: you can not search for a name directly. That simply fact would improve that alot. We dont realy need a GTN that memorized sellpricec and other fancy stuffs.

Don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been mentioned. Just wanted to voice my agreement with the thread. I can say that with the market in its current form though I think I've only used it about 5 or 6 times. Here's hoping for a sooner rather than later update!

Considering the poor UI controls, I was not shocked at how poorly designed the GC interface was designed. The game is fun enough, it looks great but it is clear that this is BWs first MMO. They have a lot to learn and fix up in the coming months, they really need to hire some experienced MMO developers to give them some tips.

And while you are at it, put GTN's back on every planet. It's a pain in the butt to have to run to Coruscant or the space station to put something on the auction house.

I imagine it would cause people to use the GTN less and thus cause the supply to suffer.

Dunno what all the whine is all about, I do not myself sit at the AH 24/7 so I might not have been having your experiences, but I have no issues at all with the AH in this game. Nothing is as bad as you all mention it to be :s

True, it's very basic. For whatever reason it was implemented as it currently is, it's where we are at the moment with the GTN. This thread is what they can improve.

yeah, and most of that functionality we had for 2 xpacs before through mods and blizzard finally pulled their heads out of there behinds to give us what we should have had for a long time. even then auctionator was still virtually a requirement if you were a heavy ah user.

@op the gtn is in need of work, and bioware knows and has already stated that they have plans in place and it is coming. i understand your frustration, and even agree with pretty much your entire list, but give it some time. it takes awhile to produce everything, and there is a ton of stuff left to be done.

what would also be nice to have, is the ability to narrow down our searches for item attributes,

say I'm searching a shield that has a willpower bonus of 30 or greater.

I want to be able to say search shields, chose willpower from a pull down menu as refining option and input a value of 30 to exclude anything below that.

I looks very much like it's designed by a software programmer and not by a UI expert.

How do we minimize load on the database?

Programmer: Let's force the user to pre-select all sorts of categories, so we can make very specific database queries. Too bad if the user doesn't know in what category every single item belongs... at least it will minimize database load.

But how do we handle that the user might forget to input a sales price?

Programmer: Let's always put a "1" in the search field if it's empty. It doesn't matter that the user then often inputs a wrong price or constantly have to delete that "1" from the price. At least we don't have to check for an empty field before querying the database.

GTN is by far the worst auction house system I have seen in any MMO!

I actually really like this game, and I have been here since beta phase 1, but I have to agree. The GTN interface is terrible. It makes it impossible to do anything you want to do, and no one on my server is even really using it because it is so user-unfriendly.

I support this thread!

Maybe I am doing something wrong but whenever I try to limit my search by level requirement it just ignores it and returns everything level 1 to 50. Between that and not having a search box, it's really tedious to find something.

I support this post! Even only for the ability to search for custom (orange) item.... I burned like 2 hours worth exping trying to find a legs piece to match my new chest piece...:mad: Edited by mitchweb
