  1. I enjoy TOR, I really do, I enjoy the gameplay, for the most part I love the story, but there is one tiny thing that annoys me. You guys invoke memories of KotOR a bit too often and seem to milk our KotOR nostalgia for all its worth. We can't go a few planets without some throwback to the game or finding out something about Revan, 1.1 was largely dedicated to the Rakghouls from the memorable starter planet of the first KotOR and now in 1.2 we are even seeing live events featuring Rakghouls on unrelated planets. Let go of these crutches and let TOR's story carry itself, I can enjoy TOR on its own merits (and I'm sure many others can, too) without being reminded that this is taking place in the wake of the KotOR duology. I really hope that future story content will be a tale of its own without touching upon your (and Obsidian's) previous successes too often.
  2. You know, if you're going to try and change something about the game it is best to consider making constructive criticism instead of spouting vile venom all over the place, it makes you look petty, if not pitiful. Also, I've never encountered situations where avoiding the flirt option obstructed my progress, and heck, I don't even encounter that many flirt options to begin with, and I've levelled six female characters past the prologue, and two of them past Chapter 1 (my Sage and Sniper). So I'm honestly not sure where you're getting all this from that there is naught but "vile objectification" of women in TOR. When we have female governors (on Republic Taris and Imperial Balmorra), the entire Republic army being under command of a woman and the head of the Jedi order being a woman. You do realise this game is rated T within the US and 16+ in Europe right? 16 is also coincidentally the age of consent in most of Europe, so in at least one continent your argument is dead in the water since youngsters under 16 shouldn't be playing it anyway. And even in the US TOR stays within the limits of the T rating so... yeah, sorry, this one isn't going anywhere. And while I do not like ladies being addressed as lords, apparently in Sith society Lord is a gender neutral term. *shrug* It's not something I like, but it's not bad enough for me to stop playing TOR over it. Erm... did you ever see Return of the Jedi? Particularly Jabba's palace scenes? These things have been a part of Star Wars since then, if dancing outfits bother you that much you might want to renounce your Star Wars fandom altogether. I hope you realise that there were several female writers on the writing staff for TOR, the Jedi Consular's story was even spearheaded by a woman. So perhaps you should do your research before idly firing your venom at the writers.
  3. I play a Gunslinger, but I fully see the use of the Harpoon for Scoundrels, I also feel that they should definitely reinstate it for our scattergun using friends.
  4. Same reason, ease of identification. Single lightsaber with pants? Guardian/Juggernaut. Single lightsaber with skirt? Sage/Sorcerer. I myself would also like some more trousers for Inquisitors and Consulars but I can see the reasoning behind it.
  5. Put down those strawmen fella. The problem with commenting on the community is that there also is a "No naming, no shaming" rule on the forums. And I'm sure you can see how in discussions about the community itself that some people could have a hard time restraining themselves from brining up this ganker or that ninja-looter/inviter. So I honestly can't blame them for not allowing the topic altogether as they'd have to extra-carefully read every community centric topic that gets made, which is well, effort and time they could be using elsewhere.
  6. A special mention should go to Jim Cummings, it's just so amusing that you can't avoid running into him every couple of planets and his telltale raspy voice is so recognisable you'll always know it's him. For the five of you who don't know who he is.
  7. This isn't done for a variety of reasons, least of which ease of identification out in the field, and especially in PvP. If you see a guy in robes throwing rocks, you know they're a Consular, if you see a guy in robes shooting lightning out of his hands, well, it's a safe bet that's an Inquisitor. So if you're a Republic player on a PvP server you know you can approach the Consular for a quick heal and buff, and stay away from the Inquisitor, or try to attack, I guess.
  8. Just deal with it that TOR is not SWG. That said, I can only see instanced housing work in a way that won't require an entire planet to be re-landscaped, such as indeed a door that takes you to an apartment floor on Coruscant or Dromund Kaas. But put away any dreams about having an SWG style sandbox where any square metre can become yours if you're early enough to the party because that simply isn't going to happen.
  9. I play a Sage myself, but reading those changes I get the feeling they nerfed a few too many things too fiercely. Call it a knee-jerk reaction.
  10. I liked it as easy, y'know, heroic combat and all that, it's nice to be on top of things even in the event of a bad pull.
  11. I can't help but feel the aggro circles have become larger in TOR, heh. Been having bad pulls all night, accidently aggroing two groups instead of one and facing all the consequences that come out of that.
  12. It's not so much 30 days of TOR as it is about $17. That said, now they just seem to be purposely trying to piss people off. The free month has also been granted to people who have legacy level 6. Because clearly people who don't have a level 50 CLEARLY have legacy level 6 instead.
  13. It really punishes two specific playstyles. - Altoholics, who might have say, six characters that are all between level 20 & 35, I'm pretty sure that in between those six they've gathered enough exp to have two level 50s, but since they spread their efforts across several characters they're being denied a free month, which for Europeans is worth €13/$17, not a world of money, but still worth money. - Heavy RPers, I know people who basically have been on every night since launch but never made it to level 50 because they've been role playing most of the time. PvE is something they do when there's no one to RP with. I really don't see how some people find that the Tauntaun, a bunch of useless pixels should be seen as equal in value to something that costs genuine money that could've been used elsewhere.
  14. I also heard it on Tython earlier, but after logging another character I had on Tython it was gone so... bug?
  15. Or at least make the tools versatile enough to let us make it exactly like the pre 1.2 UI down to the pixel.
  16. That is a bit harsh to say, a tauntaun is a bit of cosmetic fluff. A month's free subscription is worth €13 ($17.12 if you're wondering), quite a bit of difference wouldn't you say? You're basically saying he's ungrateful for saying a bit of pixels that has no use and no monetary value is not equal to a gift worth €13. And I myself am a heavy RPer so all that time spent RPing has basically caused me to not get a character to level 50 yet either. While I won't stop playing TOR over this, I do feel a bit kicked in the shins really. I pre-ordered TOR way back in August, been in beta, played since the second day of early access on a daily basis almost without fail, and this loyalty goes unrewarded simply because I have a different playstyle from the mainstream.
  17. Remember kids, other companies may put you out of your home, pose a threat to the environment, actively use child labour or mistreat their employees en masse. But the people of the internet have decided that EA is the worst company of 2012 because someone botched the ending to a video game!
  18. You know Ravenhurst, not once have I seen you post anything positive about TOR, not even once, if you despise this game so much, why don't you take your business and money elsewhere if Bioware is so undeserving of it? That said, Legacy is largely cosmetic fluff, and getting a character past Chapter 1 isn't a world of effort all things considered, so it's not exactly the end of the world.
  19. You really, really, have no idea about how game development and running a business works, do you? Once a game goes alive you can't afford to take it down for much longer than a day. Customers and investors alike would be unhappy. Edit: Actually, have you ever considered that instead of a bad game, TOR simply is not a game for you? For example I'm fairly sure something like Saints Row 3 is a great game, but it's simply not to my tastes, so I don't play it, much less nag to the developers to completely overhaul it into a game I would enjoy.
  20. I don't see how it is boring or lazy, LotRO did it just fine by making an instanced housing area per racial home region. It allowed all players to get a house as instances were generated as needed, and all this in several instanced neighbourhoods of about 32 houses each. And that really is the best way to go about it, since, well, otherwise you'd have either a very limited number of people who could get a house due to there being a huge land grab the moment they add housing, or having to make housing areas the size of Tatooine just for people to slap down their mansions on. All things considered, the LotRO/EQ2 method is more reasonable.
  21. These things aren't exactly made overnight though, hundreds of people need to work on such things for months before it can be presentable. You need to give an MMO time to grow.
  22. So, name me another MMO that has super-deluxe varied quests that never ever feel like you're doing the same quest again? For that matter, one that also gives different intent and feel to the quest thanks to people telling you their plight. Further more, if you can name such an awesome MMO, why aren't you playing it instead of TOR? So that it's a challenge for everyone? It would be pretty unfair if Smugglers, troopers and Agents had to go through the vast platforming puzzles while Jedi and Bounty Hunters could just leap or fly up to them. What are you, twelve? A company co-owned by Bono (of U2 fame) sold Bioware to EA a number of years ago, Bioware is currently EA's property, they can't just step out of that business arrangement. You could always blame Bono for the current situation, though. How is it not an excuse? WoW had eight years on top of its original development time of about 4-5 years to get the level of content it has today. You want Bioware to produce in five years what Blizzard has made in thirteen years? That's a bit of an unreasonable request isn't it? And for that matter, at launch TOR was a very polished product compared to many other MMOs at launch. So yet again, I feel you're being unreasonable.
  23. I'm not even sure if you're being serious here. SWG suffered a slow and painful death. TOR is currently enjoying a position as one of the fastest selling MMOs in the history of the genre. Honestly, people never stopped complaining about SWG until the day they announced they're pulling the plug, then it suddenly became a neat game again. And honestly, I don't want SWG style housing since I'm not particularly looking forward to bumping into one ghost town after another.
  24. I get the feeling you guys don't pay much attention to the weekly Q&As and other things Bioware puts on the internet about what's in store for the game. =p
  25. Ship customisation is going to be added eventually, they've been saying this for quite some time now. So eventually you'll be able to redecorate your ship as you please. But clearly there's more important things to add to the game first. And some of you people really need to accept that this game is not SWG, this game is not a sandbox MMO, there are perfectly valid alternatives if you want a sandbox MMO. But you shouldn't ask Bioware to completely change the very nature of the game for something so vain as player housing. Not to mention remodel entire planets to make room for housing, code up all sorts of mechanics and features to make housing work, it'd be a lot of effort for something that we already have in the shape of our ship. I might see housing eventually in the form of entering some instanced apartment block on Coruscant, where you just right click a door that's currently just an idle texture on the planet and that that teleports you to your apartment "floor" where you can then walk up to another door that teleports you to your apartment. But honestly, stop wishing for this game to be SWG. If you wanted that game to still be around you should've kept your subscription running throughout the game's life.
