  1. It may be time to stop allowing people to transfer to or create new accounts on The Harbinger. I've seen quite a few people do that lately because of they thought the new 2.9 activities would be more fun here on a high-pop server. The software may not be able to handle the number of players, and if that is the case, better to lock it down and have it working for those on it than to have it be unreliable for everyone.
  2. so messed up was in the middle of doing heroic quests an without a warning bam im kicked out like seriously all mmo's give you a 15min warning before shutting down a server seriously?!?!

[sarcasm] Tait warned us on the forums. What, that isn't good enough for you? Don't you run multiple monitors with one constantly refreshing the Dev Tracker forum? No? Then you have only yourself to blame. [/sarcasm]

  3. Offering subs a prorate for down time on the other hand, I'm sure that would sound very silly to the folks at EA. Ethical, maybe, but definitely silly.

The money is trivial. But I was just about to kick off some Conquest activities, and the clock is ticking on those. Getting 10 toons to the target takes a lot of advance work. Now instead of kicking it off this morning, it will have to wait until after RL work.

  4. I get complaining that the server is experiencing problems. But complaining that the devs took down servers that were already not working properly in order to fix them is, frankly, silly.

Agreed. However, that it took them 40 minutes to realize they needed to restart the servers, and apparently only because forum-posters pointed the problem out to them, is far from praise-worthy.

Their server-health monitoring seems pretty inadequate for a game with hundreds of millions of dollars of investment and a million unique logins every month.

  5. You know, it is ridiculous that players would have to tell BW that the login server is hosed.

There ought to be automatic alarms triggered when a LIGHT server gets a login queue.

Now in position 3, someone probably gave up after 20 minutes. Estimated wait 40m 00s. I like how the wait estimates includes seconds, as if it were anywhere close to that accurate.

"There are currently no System Alerts." http://www.swtor.com/systemalerts

Still at 3, still estimated wait 40m 00s.

  6. Thanks for the heads up, we're looking into it!

  7. Same problem. Stuck at position 7 for a while now. Since I am the "highest priority," does this mean no one is being allowed to login to a LIGHT population server?

Wait time started at 10 minutes when I first got kicked, now it is 25 minutes.

How the heck is going to wait 25 minutes to login? And what about raid groups? Are they supposed to login an hour ahead of their scheduled raid time in case the login server is wonky? That's a ridiculous requirement.

Oh, now at position 6 after 5 minutes. Lame.

  8. Because you know, changing characters is such a horrible terrible thing.

Actually, it is terrible, since the main point of being in the Top 10 as a guild is the Encryptions you get for each toon (not account, not Legacy) that makes the 35K target. Getting 2 or 3 or 10 toons to 17.5K each gives you zero Encryptions. This is why the Legacy lockouts are such an annoyance to alt-a-holics.

  9. Concurred. Make it where you aren't shooting yourself in the foot by offering to swap from a main to an alt to run TC for the first time in the week, and thereby rendering you incapable of gaining points on your MAIN toon because your guild needed a healer, not a tank/DPS. I have a ton of 55s so that I can be flexible on behalf of the guild--whatever they need, I can bring it. Now, I'm looking at having to cut back on my flexibility for the guild in order to try reaching conquest goals during certain weeks. Instead of "name a role and I'll bring it" I'm going to pretty much HAVE to say "this is the toon I need this conquest objective on, I'm either taking this one or nothing."

In contrast to your strategy of having one toon you "need this conquest objective on," I am grinding all 9 of my Imps for Conquest points, so the guild can haz 9 more encryptions. So you can just imagine what the Legacy-wide lockouts do to that. I'm essentially stuck with GF and Heroics, except that five of my toons can run one FP each.

I think they made the FP lockouts Legacy-wide because it was quick and easy for them to do, just flip a bit in the database for each objective, not because it was smart. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the decision was made by some ignorant crisis-mode mid-level mis-mananger who did not even realize that one-time-only meant one-time-only-per-Legacy, or who thinks "Legacy" is the only way he'll get his kids admitted to his alma mater. It is, IMHO, that stupid a decision.

  10. I am glad they hot-fixed it. There is no need to let an exploit persist. That said, the legacy-wide lockout on the FP objectives is disheartening.

Perhaps they should have just added WEEKLY missions like "Complete BT (any difficulty)" as Conquest objectives (you'd have to pick them up from a mission terminal, but a Conquest mission termianl wouldn't be a bad thing) so that the lockout would be per-toon rather than per-legacy.
