Man and I just finished getting my 25K points, now I have to do it all over again? ooopss never mind I am not in Harbinger.
Knock on wood. The problems seem to have spread to two other servers so far. If it is a software bug in 2.9,
<chilling music>no one is safe. </chilling music>
-
Then why is it consistently Harbinger that has problems?
Because it has the most players on it. Seems sadistic but it's just the way software is.
Prepare now for your new robot overloads, they will be just like this.
-
i need explanation, what the fck is with this servers?
Guild Flagships turned out to be too powerful and caused a rip in virtual space-time, sucking entire swaths of the database into an information singularity and force-choking the servers. So, expect GSF to be nerfed in the next emergency patch. They will probably disable the hyperdrives, so that it takes days to go from one planet to another unless you bang on the drive console a lot.
-
YOU are the soul reason this game is running.
LOL. Soul reason. Funn-ky! But chic.
-
Soon to follow are the other servers as everyone will now be rushing over to them.
It's like a floating flash mob.
OTOH, I am sure the people behind GSH/GFS/Conquests are pleased with the enthusiastic response that the new features are receiving. I guess the server planning teams didn't think it would be this popular.
-
I already explained that the hamsters that moves the wheels of the server are on strike, they want burgers no toffu.
Dang hamster unions, they are all communists!
-
The correct question is
"are the servers down?"
I'm down with that.
-
is the server down?
LOL. Some of them are, yes.

If the outage persists for too long, I think giving complementary Conquest rewards to active (logged in since Tues AM) toons would be good compensation. It would take the sting out of all the Conquest grinding people have done so far.
But if the servers are back by this evening, stuff happens, no need to divert BW resources to compensating people. IMO
-
I'm not being funny here... How often do they back stuff up? Every few hours? Every day? Week?
The issue may not be when the last backup was, but rather when the last uncorrupted backup was.
-
Why they share the same hardware for instances I never know.
How else would everyone on the Fleet be able to read the spam from the chat trolls and credit sellers?
Oh, and LFM-for-Op posts too, of course.
-
probably be cheaper to bring up another PvE Server for West coast and offer free transfers off Harbinger to that new server....
But then you will get "empty server" issues in the lull between new content. So not a perfect solution.
The "16m GF Op" fiasco revealed that BW's software has not necessarily been designed to scale well. If that is the problem here, then it is a big one that will take a lot of work to fix. Splitting the server is just a bandaid.
-
If that's the case, then why are Begeren Colony & The Bastion also down?
Maybe they got crushed by all the Harbinger people moving there until Harbinger comes back up?
-
Can you be a bit more specific on what a small rollback means? How far back are we rolling, exactly?
If this is a database corruption issue, then depending on the DB architecture, they may rollback to the last non-corrupt checkpoint for the database. That could mean a rollback of an hour, or to the last server restart, or maybe further. It depends on what caused the problem and when. They may not be able to predict how far until they figure it out.
-
The problem is that all these problems we have now are due to the strongholds eating so much memory in the servers, now no one will admit it, but few weeks down the road we will see the truth. No one thought how much demand these SH will put in the already decimated capability of the servers.
I hope it is that simple. Adding more memory to servers is easy and relatively cheap. Fixing poorly written software is hard and expensive and sometimes breaks more than it fixes.
-
New BW thread: rollback coming. I do not know why the post wasn't to this thread.
-
Wait... Isn't the reason the server is down right now exactly because they are doing something permanent about it? Otherwise they could just let it stay as it was.
I doubt it, they will probably put a bandaid on the problem while they try to figure out the root cause.
If they could not restore service with a reboot, than finding the root cause in software as complex as SWTOR may take days or weeks, frankly.
The odds I will get many more than the three Imps I already have to their Conquest targets this week are not good. I was on track to getting all 10 to it.

Relax, this kind of thing doesn't happen very often at all, despite all that could go wrong. its been a long time since they had to take the servers down like this.
That's kind of what is troubling about it. Server stability has gone down. One expects it to remain constant or improve, not get worse, if the people running the system are competent.
It is worrisome that competence is not on display here. There seems to be no automatic server health monitoring, with BW instead relying on Forum reports from players. Then, the servers are taken offline with a Forum post giving advance warning, but no in-game warning - what competent server admin does that?
Frankly, someone in server administration at BW may need to be replaced.
-
I totaly agree , ive been playing since pre-release just want servers to be stable please!!!
While no system is perfect, the servers used to be more stable than they have been recently. In the year and a half I've been a subscriber, this is the worst server stability I've ever seen.
-
It's one day of not being able to play. Shut the **** up.
Actually, BioWare has not released an ETA, so how do you know it is just one day?
And do you really think telling people to shut up on the Internet will actually get them to shut up?
If so, either get a clue or seek professional help for your megalomania, as appropriate.
-
To the tune of "16 tons (of #9 coal)"
I got 16 toons
On Harbinger buts
the servers gone down
and its driving me nuts
BioWare don't you mess with me now
Got a planet to Conquer
Or I might try WoW.
-
The dreaded "Estimated Wait" just popped up on The Bastion. Not a good sign.
-
would be cool before bringing servers down to give 5 minutes ingame warning before shutting them down like they used to
[sarcasm] Well, they warned us in the Forums, isn't that enough? You want the impossible!! [/sarcasm]
-
And really, this was basically a crash, and them emergency downtime, they really can't give advance wraning of a crash.
Except they DID , here in the Forums, several minutes of advance warning. They apparently just did not bother telling the people in the game at the time. That's rude and incompetent, if true, and apologies are in order.
The Harbinger, Begeren Colony, and The Bastion currently unavailable
