  1. f2p didn't really exist then. Plus there was only a small handful of main stream mmo's at that time. UO, EQ and I think DAoC but I could be wrong. Also emu's aren't the same. It is people taking the source and creating their own servers and running the game. It has nothing to do with SOE, Lucas Arts etc. SWG was always a sub fee until it's last month or whatever when they opened it back up to everyone who had the game as a farewell and thank you. EMU's also aren't all that popular. There isn't a huge crowd playing the SWG one as it is. Plus if I am not mistaken, the code has to be open source (free to the public to use) by the owners. So games like this and WoW and others if they shut down, I seriously doubt you will see any emu's due to this. Again I could be wrong but I am pretty sure I am correct.
  2. Sounds like you are a Rift fanboi and maybe you should stick to that game being you keep comparing this game to that one. Rift is a decent game but I don't like their skill trees. They have wayyyyy to many which gets overwhelming and basically they all do the same thing. Why do you need a fireball, ice bolt and lightning bolt when they all basically cast and do the same thing? I know each tree does more then that but it is still meh. ToR's talent trees are no different though. Very similar to WoW's old system which basically you had to follow a certain cookie cutter spec or else you were made fun of and not brought into raids because you weren't using the right talents in your spec for optimal output. All and all though I really enjoy the game. First mmo where I actually leveled multiple alts to max level and had fun doing it. Heck even WoW which I still play, I don't have one alt to lvl 90. Sure there are bugs and more lag now, but overall I am satisfied with the game for the most part. I guess because I am easy going and don't look for the tiniest things to throw fits about. Just like movie reviews. I love horror movies and a lot of the ones I like, people just hate them and give extremely bad reviews. If I always listened to those people, I wouldn't like anything. The only thing I really was/am disappointed about is the OPs. They are way to short and were made extremely easy. I haven't really played much nor did the newest OP, but before f2p the guild I was in cleared NM mode or whichever was the hardest then within 2 weeks. (This was when Diablo 3 came out so that OP during that time) I really loved how themed they were as it felt like you were a part of that place. Similar to how Vanilla and BC were atmosphere wise. Like KP. That was fun but way to short as the same for the others. So people can complain all they want about this game as they have every right to just like those who love the game can say what they want. I still like this game even though I don't play as much as I used to.
  3. Sorry not sure what SWG you were playing, but there were no levels in that game. You just maxed your skills. Also healing there was completely different then healing in todays mmos. There was also no end game really. There was only one thing even close to like a pve raid and that was that one on Dantooine or wherever where that turret was usually bugged and one shotted everyone. Then way later they added the geo caves and mandalorian stuff. Anyways to the OP, at lvl 20 I guess the group was just impatient which they have every right to be also as they had to spend time in que as well. Usually that low of level isn't really hard as you only have so many abilities etc. Like others said though, just keep practicing etc. I really like the idea someone said of going into random pvp warzones and heal that way as no one usually complains about healing in those places unless there is none. You'll get the hang of it soon enough.
  4. LOL I love people like this. You seem to be on the lower income side of things.
  5. I am confused how ToR is a failure? They have one of the tops in subs/active players (not counting WoW of course) and the number has been growing, according to them which I believe a lot more then someone here who posts saying they don't. I may not play much anymore because I have other things going on and mmo's in general for me are burning me out, but I still love this game. If the game was a failure then why are you and many others still playing the game?
  6. Sorry but that just makes no sense at all. Why convert old OPs which many have done already to just do it all again and again to scale with levels? Why even make any new OPs then and just keep doing the same ones. I for one would prefer fresh new OPs. No other mmo does that for the most part. WoW does re-make 5 mans and that is the stupidest thing ever. However, they re-do vanilla stuff from years ago not stuff from less then a month ago. But a full on raid they really on did it with Onyxia which is just a 1 boss fight and I think AQ20 they kind of made an AQ10 version for higher levels. I forget.
  7. 1) WoW 2) SW:ToR 3) SWG 4) Rift 5) UO I tried AoC, GW2, LotR, TSO, STO, Aion, Warhammer and Tera and really didn't like any of them at all. Lasted from 2 weeks to a month.
  8. here since day 1 also. It hasn't been that long for nostalgia yet though. Maybe give it another couple of years.
  9. ROFL fail troll is fail. Please let me know what other MMO makers do open world pvp easy. I am dying to hear. GW2, Tera, Rift, Aion, LotR, etc. all have horrible world PvP. Funny thing is, GW2 was supposed to be mostly about pvp and it failed hard at it. ToR is mostly about PvE.
  10. So then what companions and story line do they follow then? That would make no sense to not have one being all the other classes do. Unless you mean more hybrid classes like how Inquis has sorc or shadow (or whatever) etc. Then yeah. But Sorc. and Shadow aren't really classes. It is Inquisitor that is the class.
  11. I don't know if they will or not because then they will need all new story lines, companions etc. That in itself will take forever. IF they did that, it would be part of a full blown expansion. So don't expect to see any new classes any time soon. Races will likely happen though.
  12. WoW is pretty even when it comes to Horde and Alliance. Just go to wowprogress.com and it shows you the ratios. I only did US cause I don't really care about overseas. My main has always been alliance since vanilla and I tried Horde for a short period during ToGC (in Wrath) and honestly didn't like it so I switched back to Alliance. Here I went Sith because the guild I was joining with at launch and signed up with chose Empire. I would have gone either but my main is Empire but have 2 lvl 50 alts Republic and it is fine. I kind of like Empire a little better though. I like my Sorc. better then the Jedi counter part. SWG I was republic also. Overall though I still kind of like the good guys better, but if I plan on playing with friends it doesn't bother me and I will go with the majority on which side they want to play.
  13. That is a ridiculous excuse now. Just because it took them years to come up with it first, doesn't mean then others can't implement it now. Basically by your theory then you know how far behind the world would be in general? People take other peoples ideas and either improve them, use something similar, or make them worse in trying something new with it. So just because it took WoW some time to create then ALL mmo games after WoW need to wait just as long? And no it doesn't need to evolve with the game. No clue why you think that. It is a simple "Armory" type thing. So please show me or tell me why we need the game to evolve before doing something so simple. It isn't that hard to do especially since there is a separate web team. Yes I do web development also and it isn't hard to call a database and display stats.
  14. I don't know what is worse, crying on the forums about known stuff and will get fixed when it gets fixed or continuing to spend money on a sub when it appears you are very unhappy with the game because of a hood. Maybe you should go to a new genre because mmo's aren't for you. EVERY mmo still has bugs including WoW.
  15. @OP I think your P2W definition and others P2W definition are different. To me, P2W means you can buy your way to the top gear/end game stuff without needing to work for it. I personally don't consider buying gear that helps you level as P2W because most can solo level to max and I don't see how that hurts anyone. But come to end game stuff then yes, that is P2W and lame. Look at GW2. You can just buy gems and get all the high end stuff you need. Horrible game anyways. In a way, WoW does it with BOA items which is just good for leveling and granted you don't pay real money for it but it is a good system and I don't see anything wrong with it. You still need to level and granted it will make it easier, but it isn't like it takes you from lvl 1 to max in a few hours. That is just my opinion. Either way though leveling is friggin easy in ALL the mmo's out right now. It doesn't take all that long, even if you are a casual. You can even solo 1-max on all the games out too.
  16. I wish they would do something like an Armory like WoW does because that is really cool. But then again I don't really know of any of the other mmo's having something like that either. It's a shame they don't.
  17. See. This is why people need to clarify more on the term "Player Housing". Everyone refers back to SWG and that player housing cluttered the hell out of the game and wasn't instanced. If people would say "Instanced Player Housing" then hey I see nothing wrong with that at all.
  18. If this game is a failure then I guess Rift, GW2, Tera, AoC, Tera, LotR, Warhammer, EQ1, EQ2, UO, EVE, TSW, etc. are all failures too then because they all have below the subs ToR has. LOL I love how you think player housing would make or break this game. This isn't SWG. Good lord people need to move on. SWG was a horrible game. Only thing made it worth anything was the community. The only thing I will agree on is the ships to be customizable or instanced housing like EQ 2 which imo I could care less about. But any type of player housing like SWG would be extremely bad and ugly and no way in hell it will ever happen. Go play a sandbox mmo if you need to relive your need for player housing.
  19. I don't see people doing this either but I do know people try and be funny and say how much it sucks etc. That stuff I don't care because money is no issue for me and I wanted the CE. I didn't get the CE for the in-game stuff because it usually is just fluff and stuff that gets old fast, but I got it for all the other things it came with and I love Star Wars so I wanted to get it and the cool box it came in too. So for me it was well worth it. Those who got it just for the fluff and CE vendor and are upset now, well I have no pity for them because no way I would spend that much for vendor stuff. I would have bet $$$$$$$$ the vendor stuff would have been lame in the first place.
  20. I guess you ignored all the other things I said that were new and there is more then I just said. Story seems unchanged? You must be new to mmo's because why would the story change? There isn't 1 story fyi. Each class has its own story. GW2, Warhammer, Tera, LotR, AoC, Aion, Rift, WoW, etc. you do know their stories never change too. They add new content in expansions which may add to the story but ToR's expansion isn't out yet. Please don't try and start to bash the game with complete nonsense when you obviously haven't done research.
  21. Ummm there is a new operation, new Warzone, new tier/armor, graphics updated, new unlockable companion, etc. Nice try trolling but failed bad. Nothing new after 6-7 months? LMAO simply wow.
  22. Sounds like those fanbois of GW2 and Tera. Supposed to be the "new" mmo and revolutionize the mmo industry with ground breaking things never seen before. FAILED bad.
  23. We will get more information in time. This is not set until Spring 2013. They also said on the big picture on the home page that more info will follow. So why do you need to know questions when it just was announced? Maybe give it a month first. Do people have patience anymore?
  24. I think it may have been FreeSpace 2 but looking at the vid I am not 100% sure.
  25. I guess it was fairly popular because a lot of people seemed to love it. It was pretty fast paced. I am searching for flight combat type games to see if I can find it. I am hoping someone here remembers that post. It was probably a few months ago, I think.
