  1. It's a toss up. In an open encounter a sniper should always win against an Assault/Pyro. They have the proper defenses and cooldowns (on short timers) o make us feel relatively useless.

You can stun them and pull them (If they haven't hunkered down yet), but then you wasted your gap closer and you get knockback rooted as they build some distance and reset up.

If they have hunkered down, avoid them entirely until they move or their buff wears off.

Luckily most of the battleground provide LOS options to use (Pillars, Buildlings, etc) which you SHOULD be using against them. If you can face tank a sniper and come out on top as assault you are most likely facing a sniper that isn't using his abilities. Which I do find with this class it's more black and white on what's a good player compared to a not so good player.

If you do get knock-backed, and you have MV available that's a great time to use the ability. (I've started actually keeping my AOE available for when I know decent snipers are in a warzone. Sure, I waste some overall damage but it has a higher chance of keeping me alive if I get jumped)

  2. I saw these and thought they were fake, but there is a loading screen that suggests otherwise. Can we get an official BW response on this please?

    Thank you!

I think the general consensus is it's one of those fun old beta things that were eventually removed. In the current state of PvP those would be a bit extreme, however it would be nice to have lesser versions, or things similar to biochem, that are reusable by all.

  3.

If your grappled into something, you failed to have situational awareness, you failed to see where I was in relation to where you are.

    .

You never get attacked by something at 30M? You much have zero Mercs, Sorcs, Snipers on your server.

Such as using grapple to defend other players who are losing a fight, preventing a huttball score, dropping someone to their death, an interrupt, ranging a healer, ranging a dps from the healer, as a simple root for someone who is already resolve capped. Tell me about these other more "skillful" ways that you know of.

Oddly you are only mentioning grapple as defensive, as in preventing a score. There are countless ways it's used OFFENSIVELY to ensure a score....and where there are 0 traps involved.

  4. Oh, and I disagree that I shouldn't get the kill. I used my abilities, and the terrain to obtain victory; had my enemy been smarter about how they fight and their surroundings, they wouldn't be hitting that Med Rez. button.

How does one be smarter around grapple? It has a long range, and can pick up players from most angles. Plus, if you are familiar with how the netcoding works you can actually increase the range a bit by 2-3M.

Grappling in to fire takes zero skill. Zero. There are many more critical areas and "skillful" ways to use grapple than in a fire pit.

  5.

I still don't see any reason why we shouldn't be allowed to duel in the Combat Training area on the fleet. It is called Combat Training after all... what better way to train for combat than making a friendly duel or watch others that are dueling?

    Game isn't balanced against 1v1.

  6. So, currently, do we get real credit for when we kill people using the Huttball hazards? I play a PT, and over the last few months I have become exceptional at killing people using the hazards. However, I'm not sure I get credit for these kills. If we do get credit, please ignore; if we don't get credit, could something be done to ensure that we do?

Finally, to those of you who shout about how doing this is cheese, and completely OP or whatever. You hate it when I do it to YOU and love I do to the other team (it's sort of like p'r0n for guys...you would hate it if that guy took his beast of a hog to you, but love to watch him to it to the other team).

No you don't get credit, No you don't deserve credit.

    Moving along.

  7. The thing is that PTs aren't having survivability issues,.

    But..they are.

A PT that isn't being attacked isn't going to die. Or a PT with a Pocket Healer is harder to take down (But so is any class)

Personally I'd like to see Degauss moved up a few tiers and grant immunity while Energy Shield is active, or a slight root when TD goes off.

  8. We only have 3 seconds of stationary demands. There isn't a single fight where you don't have 3 seconds of time to stand still.

No, but there are fights where having to move (ground effects etc) can make you stop your cast early which was what I was saying.

  9. Looking at the graphs in Torparse.com AP sustained damage the graph is almost exactly a straight line as far as spikes go. Pyro in the other hand the graph spikes up and down constantly.

My question for you guys is do you think that the sustained damage in AP would eventually out do the huge spike damage of Pyro in a boss fight? what do you think?

Overall damage is still overall damage regardless of spikes.

Plus, most of the boss fights, at least in EC, have movement added to them where AP Falters a bit due to having to be stationary with FT. I think if there was just a Patchwerk type fight AP may pull ahead of Pyro, but there isn't currently in this game. The closet you get is the one on ones in EV but that's only for 140K worth of HP you have to eat through.

  10. You know your class so well that you left out Tranq Dart (ranged 4 sec stun) and Carbonize (AOE stun) out of your list of survivability cooldowns. Two things Maras/Jugs don't have.

Awe (which is AMAZING in all the warzones) and Force Choke (Which buffs their abilities as well, and can be talented by Juggs to work similar to electro dart. )

Soo...Not a good comparison between Carbonize and Electro Dart

  11. Ok so 8k damage while stunned. I'll conceed the point.

    Like that's balanced.

Of course I've seen BH's put out 8k in one shot also... so there ya go.

    2 BH's 1 does that rotation

the other does the 1 8k shot thing... bamn 16k by 2 BH's in less than 5 seconds.

BH's (mercenaries) can not do 8K since the fix last week (or was it the week before?)

PS: Guild Mara had a lucky string of procs and crits /buffs and did 15K Damage over the course of a Ravage, with a 7.5k+ Last hit. That's 3 Seconds...

  12. BM/WH full geared.

Not saying I died completely in the stun; sure did feel that way.

The most damage that would be conceivable, in the event you do NOT have TD on you to begin with is roughly 8K Damage in the course of that stun. Give or take depending on gear.

seriously, why is this thread 15 pages long? are there that many bad and/or ignorant players in this game?

    Yes

  13. Well... once again, I won't call for a nerf but, getting killed in stunlock even once a match, isn't really a bunch of fun and if you get hit with that while stunned... you have no chance to survive that rotation. Does that spec get electo dart or whatever, cause that's what I get hit by before Im 16k to 0 before stun is over.

As a guardian I think they should get shields and heavy armor as compensation for losing that ridiculous dps.

    /wink

Electro Dart: Fires an electro dart that stuns the target for 4 seconds.

    0 Seconds: Fire Dart

    1.5 Seconds: Ability 1

    3 Seconds: Ability 2

    4 Seconds: Stun Ends

You die in two hits? You even wearing gear?

  14. I've posted this before in threads just because people like to spout off random numbers, and I like giving accurate results here. I won't touch on heat at this point as this is a single 1v1 Encounter and NOT a group battle (Where Overheating is prevelant)

Now, these are with cooldowns (Explosive Fuel, Power Relic, Power Adrenal) and with 100% Crit RNG In your favor (Meaning it's very rare, but seemingly people like to think it's 100% of the time always for POwertechs)

    GCD/Seconds | Ability Name

    ________________________

    (0) | Incendiary Missle - 900 Crit

    (1.5) | Thermal Detonator

    (3.0) | Rail Shot - 5K Crit

    (4.5) | Flame Burst + CGC Tick - 2K Crit + 900 Crit

    (6.0) | PPA Rail Shot + CGC Tick Refresh - 5K Crit + 900 Crit

    (6.5) | Thermal Detonator Explodes - 4.5K Crit

    (7.5) | Flame Burst + CGC Tick - 2K Crit + 900 Crit

So in the span of 7.5 Seconds, in a stars align scenario, you did roughly 22K+ Damage to this opponent.

The scenario here would be prevalent against a moderately geared Sage, or Under geared Medium/Heavy armor user. There are obvious things that curtail this such as gearing of the opponent, cooldowns used, cleanses, etc.

This is NOT sustainable in a group battle. A big reason is due to the heat cost of IM, it's way to much of a resource hog to use on target switching so at times you'll Flame Burst to apply the dot and waste a PPA proc. (This goes off even if the proc is not on an ICD thus ruining a Rail Shot > Ability > Rail shot combo).

This is similar to an Operative using his cooldowns to destroy an opponent by "Stunlocking". The difference is we don't have stealth or a way to remove ourselves from combat if our burst rotation falters.

So in the end you have a high burst class, with low defensive cooldowns, and one of the worst conceived resource systems in an MMO..

  15. This guy knows what he's talking about. More Pyro PT's who actually know what they're doing please post and not these gimped Pyro PT's who don't know how to use utilize their abilities.

He must have trained Incendiary Missle a few ranks higher then me (Maybe he is a few expansions past this one that nobody else has) to get 1.2K hits on the ticks of it...

  16. See here: http://mmo-mechanics.com/swtor/forums/Thread-Stat-DR-Graphs

Expertise scales better across the board than any other statistic. It improves your damage output more than power or your primary stat does, it improves your healing more than your primary stat or tech bonus does (point for point), and it improves mitigation more than defense/absorb. Its unclear when it actually turns around, but certainly well past 1300.

In practise, with warhero gear, you hit DR with every other major statistic long before (surge + crit hit massive DR) with the exception of power. But power never competes with expertise, at any level, hence it is always best to have as much expertise as you can find.

Those four graphs do not mention power at all.......

  17. They have Alterac Valley which is a nice mixture of PVP and PVE that gives it a more complete feel than swtor.

Since the engine can't seem to handle real open world pvp they should consider something like that, IMO.

You talking current Race Mode Alterac Valley, or "Vanilla" Alterac Valley which actually was a challenge?

  18. Instead of taking the barrel from a war hero gun I used an old battle master one and just ripped mods from some boots to make my augmented gun. I just miss like 3 aim and endurange and about 30 max dmg. should I have gone with a wh weapon? so expensive

Well eventually if you PvP enough you'll get comms for everything anyways. I picked up some armor pieces before I bought the gun myself.
