  1. Did this website actually censor the "r.a.p.i.n.g" out of the word "d.r.a.p.i.n.g"? Really? Someone needs to seriously adjust the profanity filter on this site... .
  2. Hahahahaha. I know it's a typo, but damn if it isn't also funny (it's funny because it's true). .
  3. Probably because the "Unify" feature doesn't always look best. If you have to manually select it to turn it on for a newly-equipped piece, then you're paying attention, and you can decide for yourself whether it looks better unified or not. Just my 0.02 creds... .
  4. Thanks for this. At least I'll be on a level playing field shortly after I hit 50. That's encouraging. Still, while leveling, this Alignment system seems pretty broken. No game mechanic should encourage you not to role-play your character. You'd think Bioware would be smarter than that with their years of RPG experience. .
  5. I have a level 42 Scoundrel who has managed to maintain a roughly neutral alignment. I hide any indication of DS/LS gain in conversations, as I don't want to pick based on what it will give me; I'd much rather role-play. And since this is a Bioware game, I would have thought there wouldn't actually be game-play penalties for genuinely role-playing my character. At level 42, my LS/DS rating is "Grey", at about +650 (I think it's +3850 LS / -3200 DS). So far, I have not found a single Relic I can use, as all of the ones you can buy, or that have dropped for me during PVE, have all had alignment requirements of at least LS I or DS I. I know I can build Matrix Cubes using Datacron Shards, but that would only account for one of the two Relic slots, and the one that is level appropriate (lvl 36) for a Scoundrel requires Shards on planets that are still well above my level. Am I missing something? Where can I get Relics that don't have Alignment requirements? Am I just unlucky with drops? And why does it feel like I'm being punished for RPing my character genuinely? I wouldn't worry about it if the bonuses for the relics weren't significant, and if the powers they grant when used weren't also pretty nice to have in emergencies. Any suggestions? .
  6. Reading right here on the very first page of this forum... You can also get the same info by checking out the Dev Tracker forum...
  7. Um...there is nothing to download for Bootcamp, and it doesn't really slow your Mac down. I'm not sure you're thinking of the right thing. What are you downloading? (Unless you're referring to downloading a bootleg copy of Windows to run under Bootcamp...) Granted, you are running Windows on your Mac hardware; and in ways I can see how you might claim that Windows is slower than Mac OS X (though not appreciably). But games generally run better on Windows under Bootcamp than they do under Mac OS X, due to the outdated driver support for games on Mac OS X. To be honest, I can run SWTOR using Parallels (a virtual machine manager) under OS X Lion without losing more than 5 - 10 frames per second compared to the Bootcamp implementation, and that's (convolutedly) running SWTOR under Mac OS X... .
  8. Here's my lvl 36 Scoundrel before I got her the new spiffy Outbreak Plague armor (which I haven't SS'd yet): http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u427/nihipalil/swtor2012-04-1920-28-11-77.jpg
  9. I'm okay with new, but I'm not really digging this. I get the color scheme, but it's making the text blur on the forums after reading a page or so. So, yeah, that's my failing eyesight to blame, but this color scheme enables it; I didn't have that problem on the old site. And I despise condensed-width fonts, like the one used for the secondary menu above ("Forum Management" et al.). They make things look disjointed when mixed stylistically with normal-width fonts. And last (but not least), there is almost no separation between elements: no gridlines, no borders, only a very subtle change in lightness, which isn't enough to really separate one element or post form another adequately. Makes reading the forums more difficult than before (and let;s face it, reading this forums is difficult enough already with all the QQing and doomsayers). .
  10. 1. Love it! This was a nice and welcome change of pace. What I love even more are all the QQers crying over this on these forums: "I was just minding my own business standing around on the Fleet and someone came up and exploded in my face and infected me. It really ruined my night and disrupted my cheesy RP session." How's this for RP? If an outbreak like this really did occur, something tells me it would be pretty disruptive. So why not just roll with it...?
  11. There are a couple of things to consider with this: - Yes, there is a quest to infect 10 other people. Why? Because that encourages players to spread the plague, making this a true epidemic. From an RP standpoint, this is very well thought out by the devs. You want to create a temporary epidemic in the game world, get your players to spread it around as much as possible. - Griefing: Sure, it's rude to infect players on the Fleet or on a Starter World. These are supposed to be "safe zones". But what better way to shake up the galaxy than for payers to suddenly not feel safe in these safe zones. Again, this is actually pretty ingenius. A galaxy-wrenching epidemic of this sort should make everyone feel out of their element and unsafe. It adds a much-needed element of unpredictability and genuineness to the game. I was on when this spawned. There was no info here on the forums about it (first place I checked). No one knew what was going on, how being infected would affect you or what would happen to you if you "transformed". And you know what? It was great! For one of the few times since I've been playing (December last year), there were no answers; I just had to figure it out for myself as I went along (with the help of some of the first to hop over to Tatooine last night). I had a blast! And the anticipation and fear of the unknown was 90% of what was fun about it. For those QQing over this: I understand your frustration; but it is a game, and an MMO to boot. World events like this should disrupt your normal gameplay, at least to some extent. If it left you debilitated permanently or something like that, then you'd have reason to complain. But it didn't, and won't. So either run from heavily populated areas if you don't want to participate, or stay and face the (not in any way damaging) consequences, and enjoy this for what it is: and unpredictable, interesting, and much-welcome change from the normal grind of the game. My 0.02 Creds...
  12. It's happening in Space Combat, too. Sometimes it's very, very quiet, and then all of the sudden I get overwhelmed with engine noise and blaster sounds. And the music volume seems to go up and down rather randomly...
  13. Shadows seem to matter as well. I get much better looking bump-mapping, even on character textures, with Shadows set to "High". And metals are shinier and have much better reflections with Shadows on High as well. Overall, the game looks much improved over 1.15. Even environmental textures seem much crisper and more detailed, which is a pleasant surprise considering they said the hi-res textures would only affect character models. As someone mentioned above, you can really see this on Speeders (not taxis, whose textures still look like butt) traveling between waypoints. And AA is finally working on my ATI/AMD 7970, which up until now has not (I could force it through the ATI Control Panel, but it didn't look right and screwed up text). It's almost like playing a whole new game visually...
  14. Woohoo! Naked time! No, but seriously, you're right. I'd noticed that my main and my companion had both dropped by quite a few HP's the first time I logged on after 1.2 went live. As soon as I started swapping out gear on both, it seemed to self-correct.
  15. Yeah, I'll confirm this. I exited the Launcher before it started to install the "Main Assets 49" and it's letting me log in without patching just fine now. Whew...
  16. Well, I *was* at 180 KB/s, but it just jumped up to 1.8 MB/s. I was hoping the slow download would give me some time for them to respond as to whether I should cancel out of it, but now... Someone please let us know what we're supposed to do.. .
  17. Does that mean if it's currently downloading we should stop? Or will that mess something up?
  18. Absolutely this! Of course, if they did that, they would need to rethink which (LS or DS) some of the choices give, since there are some (mentioned earlier in this thread, and there are others) don't really make much sense. But, since there's no Save -> Pick Option A -> Suck Reward -> Quit -> Load -> Pick Option B in this game, being an MMO (of sorts), I think it would be great if they didn't preview it and just made you live with the outcome. At least then it would mostly eliminate the min-maxing (except for the scores of websites that would pop up with complete guides to LS/DS choices in quests), and it would make it feel a little more like your choices mattered...
  19. The links to Dulfy's pages are more recent, and she provides screenshots from the Legacy pane in-game on the PTS. So I would go with Legacy Level 5 at this point, unless they change it back to 8 when they roll it to Live tonight. Cheers!
  20. Yeah, probably. Just seems like if one side gets a visible manifestation of high achievement of Force attunement, then so should the other. But I really can't think of what that would be, especially to not break canon. Just seems silly to me that Jedi must be so damned pure, but don't glow or something from that purity when they reach its apex... Some have mentioned on this thread that only certain characters in lore have shown any particular manifestation of the Force physically, and those were amongst the most powerful in SW history. But remember, the story lines are setting up each character to be the most powerful of their class... So you could take some slight liberties here, as long as they were subtle.
  21. A Force Witch who uses one or more Lightwhips and some unique caster-type abilities.
  22. I'm not happy with it. Here's why: Darkside Corruption is overdone and looks plain silly after DS II. We look like zombies or frail pandas once you start making our mouths, eyes and noses darker... The glowing red eyes are the only cool part, and the only part that is actually (arguably) canon. The choices don't always match up. There have been times I've done something particularly nasty and gotten rewarded with LS points for it. W-T-F? Powers should be tied to LS/DS, at least for force users. It would be easy enough. It is completely anti-canon for LS to use lightening or Force Choke, Sith or not. I can't think of any of the cheesy Jedi powers that would be forbidden to DS though, so maybe that's why they didn't pursue it. The Legacy abilities should be tied to LS/DS as well. I'll buy that a Smuggler could have a bit of Force sensitivity if there was a powerful Force user in their family, that would manifest in a "Heroic Moment" (I'll give them kudos for that rationale). But if the Smuggler is evil, then it should be Force Choke. If they are good, then it should be whatever the LS equivalent is. If they are neutral, they should get to pick until the meter falls too far one way or the other. I have yet to find a decision that affects my character once the current quest is completed (except for the odd email, which always seems to provide the same rewards, just worded differently based on the LS/DS choice). There seems to be no long-term reprecussions for choices made, except in the case of the Sith Warrior and Jessa Willsam (if only they would do more stuff like that quest series and variable outcome, which IMO was pretty damn cool). Alignment should do more than grant you access to certain gear and make you ugly. What about the glowing blue/white eyes for a high LS? Or the removal of scars? Or something significant? I don't know. Maybe they have plans for it in the future. But right now it seems like a badly-conceived, tacked-on feature with no real thought or importance behind it. Jawa says "Ppbblllttt..."
  23. Let me start by saying that I love the Hue-to-Chest feature in 1.2. Not only does it solve the clown-posse look that my characters usually have from mixing and matching gear as they level, it also does it fairly intelligently, like some actual thought went into making each piece look good when hue-matched. But why is it only on the main character? Why isn't this implemented for Companions as well? For instance, Corso looks ridiculous 90% of the time with his red & black boots, blue-trimmed white chest piece, yellow helmet, and pearly white gloves. If the gear already contains the data for hue-matching, and the code is already written for allowing the main character to implement this, how hard can it be to add it to the Companion tab as well? And what possible design decision would excuse it not being available for Companions?
