  1. The problem that I had with city planets was how static they felt. I mean... I'm on a planet that is a freaking CITY! I should be seeing people walking around, security chasing thieves and involved in high speed chases over head, overhearing a lot of people making small talk about different things, gang warfare, etc. Instead I felt everywhere I went there were a bunch of disgruntled parents standing outside smoking and waiting for the PTA meeting to start.
  2. What this really boils down to are two different camps of people who are actually in the same boat and just haven't turned around to notice eachother. Group A feels that certain features should have been in at launch while Group B is fine with said features not being immediately available. The reason why I say you're in the same boat is because once the features that Group A wanted at launch and Group B are fine with waiting on are in they'll be on the same page. You both want them but you're just at odds as to when they should be implemented. That being said we have absolutely no idea what Bioware was doing when certain features didn't make it in. We can't fault them because they very well could have had a heck of a time with certain features and decided it better to focus on what can and should be done by launch while allowing features they felt could wait slip by the release date. We also can't back them because we really don't know what the reasons were. They could have been out drinking or clubbing and in an intoxicated state said 'to hell with guild banks we'll put em in when we're done woman! *hic*".
  3. Opinion. As if this will matter once people move on from Tier 1. Mentioned at the Guild Summit to be coming soon. Possibly in 1.3 along with a type of Item Rack function. Yes? Them adding new content for PvPers is a bad thing? They will release details when they have a solid plan. When they reveal what they're doing people will have time to test it on the PTR. Legacy system will provide additions for your starship. If you're referring to an expansion of space combat they have said they have a secret project in the works but are going to say no more than that for now. They've been working on all sorts of bugs. Do you want an update every time they THINK they have an answer? I don't need to be told that they're working on them. That's a given. This is the way it always goes. Did you want a new Operation that rewards the same gear as the Operations people have been beating for months now? Going from 2 Operations at Tier 1 to a single Operation for Tier 2 doesn't matter if the new Operation has nearly the same amount of, exactly the same amount of, or more bosses and trash mobs compared to the previous Tier. Since we don't know that let's not assume anything. Again, after Tier 1 becomes obsolete no one will care that you couldn't take their mods out. Time to move on. So you questioned their intent to add another Warzone and now you're questioning them for only adding one? I'm confused and I think you may be as well. What's the deal? If this patch drops in early April like they're aiming for TOR will have 4 Warzones after being out for 4 months or less. After 7 YEARS of WoW there are only 8 Battlegrounds in that game. They have been improving this over time. Remember ability-delay and the horrid framerate issues in Warzones and certain low to mid level planets? Cross-server Warzones will be coming eventually. A Group Finder is coming as early as 1.3 but will start off as server only. May stay that way but who knows. These automated systems will make Server Mergers necessary only in the event that subcriptions are low, no growth or stability is seen on certain servers, or servers are just a complete ghost towns. Again, cross-server Warzones will be coming and the single-server Group Finder should be considered a step in that direction. I believe this was touched on and may come eventually. Coming in Patch 1.2 Still in the works but will only come after more common guild features are added. Banks and Calendars to name a couple. Ships will likely come during the Guild Progression feature they want to add. Changes that they are making to speed up the travel times soon and they acknowledge that worlds right now feel lacking in the "Life" department. In-game events coming that will likely increase player activity out in the galaxy to make it feel more multi-player. I have no idea where you got this from but maybe you should have watched the Guild Summit stream. They are not abandoning it at all nor are they going to leave it as it is. They're going back to the drawing boards on it to redesign it and fix the issues it has. New dailies, new Operation, new Flashpoint, new Warzone, Warzone Ranking system, Legacy system with all of the things it will add, customizable UI, clickable mission item icons on the mission tracker, color matching for gear, vanity pets, target-of-target added to the UI, high-res textures, high-end gear mod removal (gonna have to get over that a single tier in the entire game won't use this), improvements to crew skills to make them all feel useful for end-game, moral alignment abilities, social rank improvements, new emotes, and a handful of other little improvements. Yeah... not going to add much and won't really address anything. Are you serious?
  4. Yes I know that. I'm trying to explain to this person that some things you get are more attractive to alts because the system was created to encourage alt play.
  5. Unless Bioware directly stated "and mains will get bonuses from this system that will be more attractive to them than for alt players" you're likely taking their quote out of context. To be honest it happens all the time and has been the cause of a lot of arguments in the past around here. Someone thought Bioware meant A because of something they said that was misinterpreted or intentionally twisted when the reality is they meant B. I never saw any statement that gave me the impression that main-only players would receive something that alt players would care less about. The system has always come off to me as something that is more attractive to people who roll alts. The Guild Summit information more or less confirmed this. Either way, what you thought it would be isn't the case. Sorry if you got your hopes up but this system is a bit more meaningful for someone who has four characters instead of just one. Now to be honest once new storylines come out this year and once the level cap is increased from an expansion people like you will likely find all of the bonuses useful whether you got them from simply leveling up Legacy or buying them with credits.
  6. The Legacy system is there to encourage alt play. They want people to play through the multiple stories. As I said, you can get the things the alt players can get by leveling the Legacy through your main and spending credits to get things that would require you to invest the time into multiple alts. At least that's the impression I got. Yes, it does seem that several of the features (achieved by alts or credits or leveling the Legacy) are aimed at alt play and that main-only players will not get as much out of it. The bottomline is that Legacy does have some things for people who only roll one character but the system was built around the idea that you play multiple characters. If you thought that what they meant was that main-only players and alt-oholics were going to find equal value with this system you were likely mistaken as I don't recall them saying anything like that. There's something for everyone in this game. At least that's what they're trying to do. This happens to be one of those features that you're probably not going to get as much out of as the alt players.
  7. Because not all of the bonuses are tied to leveling alts. Things like additions to your ship and the ability to increase companion effectiveness by completing all of the companion missions for each companion type can be acquired simply by sticking with your main and leveling the Legacy that way. The things that require you to have leveled other toons will likely be the bonuses you can purchase outright with credits if you're not an alt person. Also should keep in mind that what they showed us may not be everything we get with Legacy when 1.2 launches and they have said that this is a system that will be constantly updated.
  8. This American will be sad to see those entertaining Aussies leave.
  9. While I loved pretty much everything I saw and heard from the Guild Summit this was the one thing that made me wince. Now this isn't something that affects me because I don't have a particular attachment to a race or have some desire to play a class/race combo of my dreams but I understand that other people do. A friend of mine has a Zabrak Sorceror at level 50 but he really wanted to create a Miraluka Sorceror. So for him he would have to go play Republic, level a Miraluka to 50, and then create another Sorceror which means he may as well delete his Zabrak and wave goodbye to all the effort he put into that character. At the very least Bioware should create a function that will allow people like him to change their race once they have completed the prerequisites. As far as the people who already filled up their character slots and can't make a new one on that server this doesn't solve their problem. The only two ways to solve this that I can see that don't involve forcing the player to delete a toon while still keeping Legacy restricted by server is to either rethink the way players unlock new races and how they can apply them or allow for additional character slots. As far as the issue surrounding those who leveled a Human to 50 I really don't know what to say. At least you already have a leg up on the multiple Presence buffs your companions can get which should make leveling through the story a little easier.
  10. I like it. Most of the people I've ever known run instanced-PvP when solo or in a group of 2 or 3 people so the only way to inform the whole team is to type it out. I would definitely like a function, maybe even an ability on the action bar, that allows you to send an Ops warning when you see enemies running towards you. Ofcourse keep it limited to those who are near an objective and maybe a cooldown so it doesn't get abused. It could even ping the map. Can't tell you how many times someone has yelled out which objective was under attack but people got confused as to which one they were actually talking about.
  11. I love Mass Effect. It has been one of my favorite franchises since the first game. I definitely plan on picking up ME3 eventually but I have never purchased the Mass Effect games at launch. Back then it was just the way things fell. Now it was simply me being cautious since I was burned last year by Dragon Age 2 and Rage. Picking those games up on Day 1 was a mistake. I'm going to wait for the price to go down even though the reviews are saying that it's amazing. Even if I did grab it now it wouldn't make me shelve TOR. Some days I feel like playing an MMO other days I just want to play something else.
  12. I seriously doubt that you could just simply do the class missions and be level 50. Considering how few of them there are a leveling boost of that magnitude (not an Ackbar joke) would allow people to go from level 1 to level 50 in a matter of hours. It's more likely that the boost will allow you to skip a lot of the faction missions as you would outlevel them pretty quickly. This is ofcourse assuming that you'll have the capacity to level faster through the storyline as I'm not sure they said you could. I know an example they gave was being able to level faster through Warzones. Though to be honest I think it would be a bit of a bad thing if a player was limited to certain content for faster leveling.
  13. The datamined information implied that the new Operation (Explosive Conflict) would have Denova as its setting. At the Guild Summit they confirmed that the setting would be on this planet. However, considering that there was no mention of a new world to explore at the Guild Summit and that Daniel Erickson made the general remark that the game's story would continue "this year" with nothing specific added I highly doubt that Denova will be a new planet. It doesn't seem to be any different than many of the Flashpoints we have that take place on other worlds that don't exist as questing locations such as Taral V. The datamined information did however show that two new planets were at least in the works to be released later and that they would have their own dailies. If I'm not mistaken those worlds were Varl, the Hutt homeworld and Rakata Prime (aka Lehon), the Rakata homeworld we saw in KotOR. These could very well be the planets where "the story continues this year".
  14. If ever, not for a long while. Might as well go somewhere else for the time being. Aion did not get the critical reception nor the initial success of TOR and it took that game more than 2 years to even begin the process of going F2P. Considering what EA and Bioware have riding on this title they'll fight tooth and nail before they throw in the towel and declare it subscriptionless.
  15. After watching that trailer on Youtube there were many things that I was liking from what I saw. The one thing that caught my attention was being able to use mission items directly from the mission tracker. I was so happy to see this. Not because it's a big deal but because it was one of those little things not getting much attention on the forums and they delivered on it. Makes me happy to know that small details like that are on the table.
  16. If you want to see what an epic fail in MMOs looks like take a look at Final Fantasy 14. The Old Republic is not up to par with what World of Warcraft is today but I don't think it will take Bioware long to improve. While I have no proof, I'm confident that once the first expansion drops we'll be looking at a very improved game. It's unfortunate that it didn't launch with the expected epic experience and currently I am unsubscribed but it is far from epic fail.
  17. For me I'd say it's a very close call but at the moment I will say 'No' to its current state. Here's why. The UI just isn't there yet. I know that target-of-target, scaling and placement, as well as a simple /roll command are being added very soon and that's awesome. Definitely steps in the right direction but I feel more will be needed. Like a small stance bar for all of our toggle abilities, mission item icons on the mission tracker, an auto-arrange inventory button, native threat meter, native recount, different icon colors for the different mission types, and even something as small as different resource colors for the classes (yellow for all of them has become strangely annoying). Lack of an LFG tool, cross-server even. Despite the fiery debate surrounding this feature I want to see it added. Low population servers would benefit greatly but even as someone who plays on a high population server there are times I just want to log in, queue for a flashpoint, run it, and log off. I don't want to stand in the fleet, spam general chat to run the flashpoint I want to run or keep my eyes glued to it in the hopes that someone else wants to run it, get the group together after awhile and hope that it doesn't disband for whatever reason. Current content feels like more of the same. Don't get me wrong. Warzones, Flashpoints, and Operations definitely have their place and are nicely done in my opinion (though I wish more Flashpoints were like Black Talon). However I feel like I've done of all these things so many times before in other MMOs. I want to see something different than what we normally get. PvPvE Battlefields where large numbers of Republic and Imperial players fight alongside friendly NPCs or even both factions trying to tackle eachother while trying to deal with a third enemy NPC faction. More minigames. Space missions are decent but something else to do would be great. Even additions such as Pazaak, Swoop Racing, and Dejarik as side games would help to alleviate the lack of creativity for the more standard game content. Random events such as a Krayt Dragon appearing on Tatooine or Republic/Imperial NPC forces assaulting a Republic/Imperial base and needing the players to help win the event would be awesome. I could go on but these are the three main points that are keeping me from being happy with TOR in its current state.
  18. They originally had chat bubbles during beta at one point but it was causing issues with performance. I would rather they released the game when they did minus a feature that is not gamebreaking in the least bit than delay it for months because they wanted to make sure that small UI features were in at launch. I agree that the lack of certain UI features is headscratching. Was a /roll command really so hard to implement? A lot of the people who complain about TOR not competing with WoW today don't understand that the Earth wasn't really made in 7 days. Most of them complain about the current amount of end-game content. As if Bioware, doing everything they have done with cinematic dialogue and the leveling process, should have had 40 Flashpoints and 10 Operations at launch. These expectations are unrealistic for several different reasons not the least of which is the complexity of technology and methods increasing over time. Cinematic dialogue with choices was and still is a massive undertaking. That very feature alone means Bioware has a lot more work on their table daily than Blizzard has or ever did have per day in the 7 years it's been around. Yes, you are a paying customer. That does not mean you get everything how you want it, when you want it. You paid for the product as it was and pay the monthly fee for the product as it is. They are in no way obligated to bow to you save for ensuring that what you are currently paying for is working. Infact, they could cancel and ban your account at any time for no reason. Have you ever read the ToS agreements? When you look at the fine print it basically tells you that you do not actually own The Old Republic or any other game. You have simply purchased the privelage to play it.
  19. Battlegrounds in World of Warcraft always felt like an afterthought. Up to this point each expansion released has only given us 1 or 2 additional Battlegrounds and then we were made to wait up to 2 years before any more were added. Meanwhile, PvE players were having Dungeons and Raids thrown at them on a fairly consistent basis. In the 7 years of WoW there are only 8 Battlegrounds and 4 different objective types. I was very happy to see that Patch 1.2 is giving us another Warzone. Only a few months after TOR's launch we'll have 4 Warzones to play in. Is this any indication of Bioware's level of commitment in bringing additional Warzones to PvP players on a consistent basis or will we be forced to wait so long for so little afterwards? Could we expect a new Warzone every 3 to 6 months or should we expect that the normal situation will be being given a handful of Warzones early and then wait a long time for something new?
  20. I have actually been thinking about this for awhile. Alterac Valley was my favorite Battleground in WoW before they gutted it and turned it into what it is today. I would love to see content in the game that is PvPvE as long as they keep it separate from Warzones and make it a lot more focused on a type of progressive battlefield with several different objectives that must be achieved as opposed to simply being able to rush the enemy faction's boss. Something like this would have to have many players in the spirit of actually making it feel like a battlefield. I would saying nothing short of 20 players per side but as many 32 per side. This may also be a great way to have the type of space combat we saw in Battlefront 2 that some people have been asking for. The ability to call in walkers, order air strikes, NPC reinforcements of various kinds, and maybe even orbital bombardments during ground based battlefields would be so much fun to me. Several bosses would be found throughout the battlefield. A boss at each critical objective. While these bosses would not necessarily be as complex as an Operation boss they would still have a type of strategy necessary to take them down. Just be sure to place some sort of timer or spawn count so as to make sure these things don't last for potentially hours. I heard horror stories about Alterac Valley sometimes lasting for days. That being said I do agree with some of the other posts here. That Bioware definitely needs to focus on what they have now and refining it before they move on to some new types of content. But I just can't help to giggle thinking how happy I'd be to see them announce this for an expansion.
  21. First of all I know very well the games Bioware has done since Knights of the Old Republic but how nice of you to come off sounding like a jerk. Knights of the Old Republic was an amazing game. Critics loved it. Fans loved it. It sold extremely well. Neither I nor my friends who played it ever had these technical issues you're talking about. I think you're exaggerating any problems that existed. KotOR was not a disaster in the least bit. In fact, its amazing success was what shaped Bioware's game design since. You do realize that Knights of the Old Republic 2 was made by Obsidian Entertainment, not Bioware right? That pretty much makes your rant about it very silly. They can't even list KotOR 2 as one of the games they've done. It wasn't simply two different teams. They were two different developers. The only game Bioware has done since 2000 that could be considered a disaster is Dragon Age 2 and that's only if you consider a good game that just didn't live up to the standard of Bioware titles 'a disaster'. You're entitled to your opinion until you start mixing up the facts behind it.
  22. Yeah I know what you want. Sinner.
  23. Wow I am not even going to bother going point for point here. You're so deluded it's not even funny. You change your tune when caught, act like that's what you intended all along, and can't see how you're ridiculous. Troll? A troll implies that I simply said something simply to get a rise out of you. You're immature and can't see anything I've said because you're blind with your self-validation. It's pretty pathetic. Oh and by the way just so you know I'm done here. You can give yourself a pat on the back again after I leave and claim that you are somehow correct because I stopped bothering with someone as self-absorbed as you. I'm sure this will somehow enrich your life.
  24. I am really curious as to what you consider a past disaster that Bioware has done.
  25. For one we don't know how many copies of the digital version sold. So it could actually be far less impactful than you think. Second of all, how many MMOs do you think had the same number of subscriptions after a month or two as they did the number of copies they sold? That's NORMAL. It's normal for any game with an online component. It starts out with a high amount of initial numbers and then drops off dramatically for various reasons. MMOs are different in that because they are constantly evolving over years they gain, they lose, they gain, they lose. I think you'll find that if you could compare the ratio of initial copies sold against subscriptions sustained for the initial months, The Old Republic is in no different a position than any other MMO that hit the market and quite possibly in a better position. WoW just lost 2 million subscriptions over a year right after hitting 12 million and now they steadied at 10 million. What do you think is going to happen when the next expansion hits? Yep. Those numbers will rise again. Then, as it always happens, once people are bored with it or it wasn't what they thought it would be from the beginning the numbers will dwindle again. You're doomspeaking about an MMO in its infancy that is off to a strong start regardless of how you look at it. We've got a long way to go before we can declare this game dead and as it stands it has one of the highest subscription counts in the market. Not bad for an MMO that just released. Again you're giving yourself a pat on the back and saying that your way of thinking was correct. Not all people who have something to say wish to get into a protracted debate with you. Certainly not when it comes to opinions which are largely what you and those who debated with you gave. People walk away from arguments all the time for various reasons. To declare that you're correct because they either didn't want to debate with someone who was deadset on how they think or because they simply forgot about this topic or because they didn't argue in the way you decreed they should argue is no reason to go stroking your ego on the matter. And yet you seem deadset on declaring that TOR is dead or dying. Interesting. Clutching at straws to debating what you said? Outside of the idea of these numbers I'm not clutching at anything because I never entered into a debate about any of your ideas on the game's content to begin with. The one clutching at straws right now is you. As I said I have not debated your ideas on game content nor do I care to because what you're talking about does not concern me in the least bit. I will always be ready to inform someone when they're acting like they're the only ones whose opinion matters because there was nothing constructive about this thread after a point and I was pointing out to you the likely reason why no one wanted to debate this with you. It got to the point where you were just talking to hear yourself talk. Basically, for future reference if you have something to say be prepared to actually exchange ideas, consider what someone else is saying even if it doesn't seem like they are, and don't act like a child when someone no longer wishes to talk to you because of your mannerisms.
