Galactic Seasons - Season 2 Updates

Now I fear GS 2 will be a grind of distasteful pvp (taste is on the taste buds of the beholder) and group content.

Actual Weeklies are all pvp or group oriented. Please, make sure there is some pve solo in there!.

Yes, all weeklies in Season 1 are group orientated (Ops, Fps, PVP, and GSF), and 2 of the dailies are group (PVP and GSF), and there are 6 solo PVE dailies, as well. There are going to be 10 weeklies in Season 2. Do you really think they they are going to make 6 more group weeklies and completely ignore solo PVE? More than likely the four group weeklies will stay the same (or similar), and they will make 6 solo PVE weeklies. For example, instead of kill 75 mobs for the daily it may be kill 300 for the weekly.

Yes, I believe they can screw up. They did in the past. Maybe you are new or not paying attention.

I stated my concerns (directed to them, not to you), so that they keep that in mind.

And I carefully gave some suggestions, including that npc kills, so no need from you to repeat them here in a response to my comment...

Have a good day

Just make the weeklies (black hole) for the weeklies for pve. They already had black hole etc and we had to actually had to do the entire Black Hole dailies (which actually was the weekly) last time for it to count so just make those into the weeklies instead. I rather do those than kill the blasted kill quotas.

Hi all!

Now that we’ve had time to look at some of the systemic changes coming to Galactic Seasons with Season 2, let’s now take a deeper look at the Priority Objectives themselves. We’ll go through some of the currently planned Objectives and take a look at what a Galactic Seasons week may look like.

Before we jump into that, I would like to quickly touch on some of the questions we have seen come up since the initial post.

Q: Will this change the pace at which players can progress through the Season?

A: Generally speaking, no. It is our intention to keep roughly the same cadence as Season 1.

Q: Will this change eliminate the Reroll function?

A: Yes. The Reroll function will not be present in Season 2.

Q: Will Season 2 be available on PTS prior to launching?

A: Yes, we do intend to have some version of Season 2 available for testing, however it will be in a later PTS phase.

With that, let’s dive into it! As a friendly reminder, all of the information below is subject to change.

Weekly POs Will Vary in Complexity and Access

Season 2 Weekly Priority Objectives are planned to mimic the same types of complexities as Season 1. We can easily generalize the week-to-week breakdown of Priority Objectives in the following way:

  • 6 Solo-oriented Objectives
  • 3 Multiplayer-oriented Objectives
  • 1 Subscriber Objective

Just as with Season 1, the Solo-oriented Weekly Priority Objectives can be completed in a shorter amount of time and/or can be done solo. Multiplayer-oriented Weekly Priority Objectives will take longer to complete and/or require multiplayer content to do so. Subscriber Priority Objectives are ones which will require content only Subscribers (and in some cases Preferred players) have access to, and will mix between content which can be solo and content which is multiplayer-oriented.

Galactic Seasons Points will be allocated such that Multiplayer-oriented and Subscriber Weekly Priority Objectives earn the most, followed by Solo-oriented Weekly Priority Objectives. Daily Priority Objectives will offer the least amount of Galactic Season Points.

We are still working on the overall balance of the Galactic Season Point distribution, and will be happy to share some more information on this in a later post!

Weekly Priority Objective Content

Now that we now understand the breakdown of the Priority Objectives on a week-to-week basis, I would like to provide two examples of what a week in Season 2 may look like.

(Week 1 Example)

Complete any 7

  1. March Across the Galaxy - Earn Personal Conquest Points across your Legacy.
  2. Utilizing the Shadow - Defeat enemies across the Galaxy with Fen Zeil as your active Companion.
  3. This Will Do Nicely - Affect enemies with destructible pipes, tanks, canisters, and capacitors found throughout the Galaxy.
  4. The Coreward Worlds - Complete Repeatable, Exploration, or Bonus Missions while defeating enemies on Alderaan, Balmorra, Corellia, Manaan, Mek-Sha, and Onderon.
  5. Ace of the Armada - Board your personal ship and complete Space Missions. Earn bonus progress for completing [HEROIC] missions.
  6. Supplying the War Effort - Assemble materials into any of the following War Supplies: Infantry Supply Kits, Starship Weapons, Armored Vehicles, Crystal Capacitors, or a Holocron of Strategy, then assemble an Invasion Force.
  7. A Galaxy at War - Complete Flashpoints. Earn bonus progress for completing Depths of Manaan, Assault on Tython, Korriban Incursion, or Secrets of the Enclave (requires content). Earn additional bonus progress for defeating their Bonus Bosses.
  8. Clashing in the Stars - Complete Galactic Starfighter matches while earning medals.
  9. Heading the Frontline - Complete Unranked Warzone matches while earning medals.
  10. Profit and Plunder - Complete Chapter XIII: Profit and Plunder of Knights of the Fallen Empire on Veteran difficulty or harder. (Requires a Subscription or access to Knights of the Fallen Empire)

(Week 2 Example)

Complete any 7

  1. March Across the Galaxy - Earn Personal Conquest Points across your Legacy.
  2. Utilizing the Shadow - Defeat enemies across the Galaxy with Fen Zeil as your active Companion.
  3. Still Got It - Defeat non-player enemies across the Galaxy without the aid of your Companions. (No Companion may be summoned for progression. This does not progress through Warzones, Galactic Starfighter, Flashpoints, or Operations)
  4. Dealings in Hutt Space - Complete Repeatable, Exploration, or Bonus Missions while defeating enemies on Makeb, Nar Shaddaa, Quesh, Voss, and Ossus.
  5. Liabilities of Nar Shaddaa - Track down and defeat the following high profile targets on Nar Shaddaa: Kaeden Ta'kor (Republic), Kallik Kan (Republic), Kaemon Zahor (Empire), and Varus Logan (Empire).
  6. GSI Valued Partner - Complete the Mission: [WEEKLY] GSI Valued Partner Initiative.
  7. Cartel Warbots - Defeat the Rogue Cartel Warbot World Boss on Quesh and Battledroid R4-GL World Boss on Nar Shaddaa.
  8. Stay On Target - Earn Offense and Defense Medals by Capturing and Defending Satellites in Galactic Starfighter.
  9. I Have You Now - Defeat player enemies in Unranked Warzone matches.
  10. Quelling the Uprising - Complete Uprisings. Earn bonus progress for completing Crimson Fang, Done and Dusted, or Firefrost. Earn additional bonus progress for completing them on harder difficulties. (Requires a Subscription)

This list is not all inclusive of the Priority Objectives which may be available for Season 2, however we hope this demonstrates the general notion of what to expect going through this next Season. We intend for there to be some crossover in Priority Objectives from week-to-week; in this example both the Priority Objectives “March Across the Galaxy” and “Utilizing the Shadow” are repeated. While building out the Season we are working to be mindful of the frequency of repeats to help keep the Season fresh feeling through.

We hope this helps provide some additional insight into our current plans for Season 2 Priority Objectives, and as before welcome your initial feedback!

Thank you!

First, good riddance to reroll! I have questions & comments though:

  • 6 Solo-oriented Objectives
  • 3 Multiplayer-oriented Objectives
  • 1 Subscriber Objective

Will the subscriber reward be soloable or is it a subscriber-just-has-to-log-in kind of thing?

  1. Utilizing the Shadow - Defeat enemies across the Galaxy with Fen Zeil as your active Companion

If this does become a PO, will Fen Zeil's speech be less annoying than Altuur's? If we have to hear Fen Zeil chatter on in "alien screech" expect 700000 threads moaning about it (that's not even an exaggeration). Mute companion option in game sound OR in our companions tab would solve that problem.

Also why force us to use Fen Zeil? Can't you add a PO where there are a selection of companions we're all likely to have so we can pick the one we prefer?

  1. A Galaxy at War - Complete Flashpoints. Earn bonus progress for completing Depths of Manaan, Assault on Tython, Korriban Incursion, or Secrets of the Enclave (requires content). Earn additional bonus progress for defeating their Bonus Bosses.

Will these be veteran or solo flashpoints? (please be solo, please be solo, please be solo). Who/where is the bonus boss in Depths of Manaan? Or is the bonus boss only available in MM? (yes I did google it, couldn't find a definitive answer).

  1. Clashing in the Stars - Complete Galactic Starfighter matches while earning medals.
  2. Heading the Frontline - Complete Unranked Warzone matches while earning medals.

Does this mean that those who afk and earn no medals will fail to complete the PO? If it does, goodbye & good riddance afkers in GSF.

  1. Still Got It - Defeat non-player enemies across the Galaxy without the aid of your Companions. (No Companion may be summoned for progression. This does not progress through Warzones, Galactic Starfighter, Flashpoints, or Operations)

Awesome! :D

Overall, the changes are excellent and you listened to/read our feedback and included lots of our suggestions for POs (yay and thanks) - I hope they make it to live :)

[*]I Have You Now - Defeat player enemies in Unranked Warzone matches.

If the above were to be an objective it will detract further from players focusing the objectives of the warzone. Its bad enough at times that players just think its all about the kills without making it incentivised.

All for objectives such as earning 8 medals or whatever as long as its something reasonable and achieveable for the average player.

Would like a specific measure to be given in relation to Flashpoints "extra points" where some flashpoints are deemed to be more point worthy than others so that we can make an informed choice.

Thanks for the new improvements.

Got a couple of questions I hope you can find some answers for us.

1. How quickly will world bosses respawn when they are part of the GS weekly?

2. Will you be able to group to do the veteran chapters (subscriber) and all players in the group get the achievement done and not just the instance owner?

3. Will every player get the same weeklies or is it going to be random again? (Im assuming we’ll all get the same weeklies and the dailies will be random).

4. How will the points system work if you only need to complete 7 weeklies out of the 10 and different weeklies give you different points. What if you do all 10 or you do a mix? Will that affect how many points you obtain and in what order?

5. At what point do we get this Fen Zeil companion? Will they be usable on low lvl characters?

6. What if you’re a new player or on a new server. Will there be enough lvl specific content to complete the weeklies and get the maximum amount of points?

7. Will we be able to do “group pve” weeklies by forming our own groups without needing to use group finder.

Suggestions:

1. So that you don’t kill off queue pops during some weeks (assuming we all get the same weeklies), please always have GSF and pvp as options for group. And rotate a third option each week.

2. Maybe consider having 11-12 weeklies and embedding pvp and GSF in there every week. Then you can have 1-2 other group weeklies or one other subscriber weekly (That’s still obviously based on you only needing to complete 7 weeklies as mentioned in your first post).

100% this.

Please reconsider this or it will break objective pvp even more if players are death matching for kills instead of trying to play the objectives to win.

I am slightly put off by the Week 2 GSF task. We have no control over whether we get Deathmatch or Domination, so you could feasibly play 10 GSF matches and only get 1 or 2 Domination matches, with the rest not counting towards your progress.

May I suggest that you add a non-Domination goal along with the satellite goals? Like "...or collect powerups in Deathmatch", which add to the counter also? That way you don't end up with people just quitting out of Deathmatches because they can't progress the satellite goal.

Liabilities of Nar Shaddaa - please don't. That sounds like it's going to be extremely frustrating with the whole server going for them at the same time...

And the non companion one - good idea but it means everyone will just rush the low level zones...

The GSF one - yep, total stinker if you end up in a GSF match that doesn't count. Please rethink this.

Same for the pvp one - killing other players is NOT the goal in warzones, don't make it worse...

I can see the GSF one for week 2 now. oh it's a death match. 1 side has 6-7 players all leave because it doesn't count towards seasons.

Making it so the season goal is only in Dom matches many simply won't stay for TDM's or they'll just go SD or noncontributing to get it over faster. If you want to put in specific medals to earn, make it so those medals can be earned in both Dom, and TDM.

For example Get 2 kills in a GSF match. OR get 4 assists in a GSF match.

or both.

Weekly Priority Objective Content

[...]

Stay On Target - Earn Offense and Defense Medals by Capturing and Defending Satellites in Galactic Starfighter.

I must say I really don't like this one. The matches where half of your team sits on the lone satellite your team has and you try to win by capturing other sats alone are already pretty bad, there's no need to incentivise that behaviour.

And while we're at it:

Clashing in the Stars - Complete Galactic Starfighter matches while earning medals.

Please fix the medal system to make it so things you do on separate ships count towards medals together. It doesn't promote a good play where a player is encouraged to stay on one ship to earn more medals (that also touches an issue of medal achievements) instead of trying to win the match best that they can.

First, good riddance to reroll! I have questions & comments though:

Will the subscriber reward be soloable or is it a subscriber-just-has-to-log-in kind of thing?

Subscriber Priority Objectives are ones which will require content only Subscribers (and in some cases Preferred players) have access to, and will mix between content which can be solo and content which is multiplayer-oriented.

Also why force us to use Fen Zeil? Can't you add a PO where there are a selection of companions we're all likely to have so we can pick the one we prefer?

Because they want you to use the new one

it will most likely be all 3 modes. and the bonus bosses appear on MM

Does this mean the issue with companions not staying dismissed is fixed?

This sounds pretty good, and quite a big improvement over season 1.

One of the most annoying things about season 1 was that daily/weekly objectives often did not align with what friends/guild mates had. Allowing people to pick what they wish to complete from the whole pool of objectives shared by everyone that week allows people to actually do these together. It will also fix people who don't do pvp getting stuck with GSF/PVP weeklies/dailies.

I will be looking forward to see what the season 2 objectives will be like.

S1 missions being different for all was something that scattered people all over the galaxy. This feature filled lots of places and activities with slight, pretty even coating of life and traffic. Every day. You didn't have " everybody" doing GSF on Tuesday, " everybody" killing same insects on Tat on Wednesday and "everybody" doing a FP on Friday. Instead, all different activities in game, many which require people to even happen, got a nice steady and even coating of people each day. I'm certain this was no mistake and it is a shame if they move away from this.

If you can do a mission with friends and guildies, it means you can do that same same mission with strangers and randoms too. Which easily leads to a situation where all the same min-max objectives get camped on all the same days/weeks, and all the rest gets more or less ignored. S1 is great at encouraging people off the beaten path and to different directions. At least initially, S2 seems like a step to different direction. In general, S2 objectives seem much more fun and creative than they did in S1 though. I really like the Starfighter objectives. ..save for the node defense, it is very AFK friendly. It could be replaced with picking powerups, K+A, destroying turrets or something of that nature.

So many people who been " stuck with" GSF or PvP objectives have discovered they actually really enjoy GSF and PvP thanks to S1. That has been a great thing for SWTOR and most of all, for the said people.

Huge amount of people have discovered how awesome GSF is thanks to seasons. I really hope it gets lots of attention/maps and so on in the future.

More Galactic Seasons inches towards " anyone can do anything they like for points",more irrelevant and meaningless it turns. It doesn't require many decisions to that direction piling up until Seasons has no relevant mechanics or role in this game remaining, besides being another reward vendor.

IMHO Galactic Seasons has turned into a failure if you start seeing "LFM for Insect slaughter ops @Balmorra, 2 spots free" in fleet all day erry day. People are their best enemies, if you some boring, fast and easy objective can be done freely and daily, ppl will do just that. And bore themselves to death while at it.

Yeah I think this is a fine idea. Imo every DM exclusive objective should have its Sat match reflection. Destroying turrets or capturing nodes pairs up real well with picking up powerups in a DM.

Q: Will this change the pace at which players can progress through the Season?

A: Generally speaking, no. It is our intention to keep roughly the same cadence as Season 1.

So players who play the right mix of solo and group missions that you dictate are the ones who progress the quickest?

Why are you prejudiced against the progress of players who enjoy solo or group play more?

  • 6 Solo-oriented Objectives
  • 3 Multiplayer-oriented Objectives
  • 1 Subscriber Objective

So everyone, to progress "optimally" will have to do at least one multiplayer objective i.e. FP not a grouped Heroic, unless they happen to be a subscriber and perhaps get lucky that their sub-only mission is a solo one or one of the mulitplayer options is actually soloable, and not necessarily by stealthing it?

Just as with Season 1, the Solo-oriented Weekly Priority Objectives can be completed in a shorter amount of time and/or can be done solo. Multiplayer-oriented Weekly Priority Objectives will take longer to complete and/or require multiplayer content to do so. Subscriber Priority Objectives are ones which will require content only Subscribers (and in some cases Preferred players) have access to, and will mix between content which can be solo and content which is multiplayer-oriented.

So some multiplayer might be soloable but no guarantees there will be at least one such soloable "multi" each week?

Galactic Seasons Points will be allocated such that Multiplayer-oriented and Subscriber Weekly Priority Objectives earn the most, followed by Solo-oriented Weekly Priority Objectives. Daily Priority Objectives will offer the least amount of Galactic Season Points.

Why the penalisation of solo players? Much of the group, aka FP, content is much easier effort-wise than a solo yet you're rewarding less demanding play with more points? Is this to acknowledge that having to deal with unsociables who speed-run or rage-quit because you actually don't want to space bar all the conversations is a pain (that solo-only players would rather not tolerate or suffer) or indeed that speed-runners have to put up with new players wanting to listen to conversations?

The variety looks good but why not have more of each type so players can actually choose to enjoy each week's must-dos for their GS points how they like?

Great that running a ship mission is a possibility for those that like ship missions BUT what about solo players who don't like them?

I don't get this insistence that we have to play how you want us to when we are the ones subscribing and/or spending real money on CM shinies.

Are you here to entertain us for the money or are you here to get your kicks from making paying customers play in an artificailly constrained fashion despite the freedom available in the existing gameworld?

The argument here is not "well solo-only players can just take longer into the season to finish the requirements". The argument here is why are you favouring one type of paying customer's playing preferences over another? Despite the possibility that these favourites may spend less real money in the game.

Additionally if you're acknowledging valuable customers, where's the objective "spend x Cartel Coins this week"?

Or for the completionist:

"Clear all mobs from this FP/Heroic area/Op"?

Or

"Find all the datacrons/Lore objects on x planets"?

The kinds of soloable options that encourage players to experience all the effort put into the design of the game.

Thank you!

Are you going to be adding the weeklies (such as Black Hole, CZ, etc) to this. If not, why not. Those can take some time and this would be good especially for solo players and since these are also conquest this would be a good idea. I would prefer these to going around and just killing NPC where there can be a problem getting them due to everyone being able to kill them as well.

It is nice that you are adding things for GSF and PVP but those that hate pvp, it would be good to add the weeklies I mentioned above as well.
