These forums are so dead

Tenacity

Recommended Posts

I was told recently that there's actually only 5 people that log into the forums and post. These 5 individuals control all the different forum poster accounts, and even converse with themselves sometimes.

I think I got claimed by someone a while ago last time this sort of thing got mentioned. lol

Either way it is still pretty quiet at the moment.

Yeah, the 5 of us are just busy with summer and all so we don't have as much time to write to ourselves. Once summer ends, we will pick it back up though.

Every time I see one of these posts, I can't help but SMH. Forum activity has no correlation with the number of active players. This should be obvious. The decline in activity you claim to be seeing has nothing to do with people leaving the game/not playing, it's purely related to NUMEROUS other things like:

  • the surge of new players are too busy enjoying the game to post
  • previously-active posters/old players have run out of things to say, and are spending time re-playing old content
  • those who've shifted away from backlit keyboards are now posting less at nights, bringing overall activity down
  • people who have backlit keyboards are now catching up on other forums they used to be unable to post to
  • studies show that an increasing number of new gamers avoid forums with black backgrounds and yellow lettering
  • the incessant and unyielding negativity on the forums drives droves of posters away--except for love threads
  • numerous potential posters have been scared off by the fact that the web site has been a "not secure" http site
  • many counselors and therapists are advising their patients to limit forum posting to once per week at most
  • though summer wasn't invented in 2018, its "rediscovery" in 2018 led many to spend posting time outdoors

All of this assumes there is even a decline at all in forum activity which is highly doubtful. No one can really confirm that's the case. The numbers of posts and responses isn't a good indicator of forum activity -- only the devs have this information. So people should just stop making assumptions about things and stuff...

I sincerely hope this is an exercise in sarcasm.

They do need a search function, i miss that.

Coming from WOW with a larger population I Think the forums was dead there aswell, mostly threads like "rate the transmog" crap.

I dont Think the forum represents the in game population though, i never have any problems finding Groups for what ever, the que for PVP is very fast and overall i Think this game rocks hard. I only miss Community content with up to date stuff.

With the recent server merges you really shouldnt have any issues finding a group on any server (well, maybe French). The game is great, yet the engine is starting to show more and more, desync in warzones is starting to be too much I would say.

 Who's forum alt am I :rak_02:

Well that could turn into an interesting game, if we all picked someone from the forum to be our 'alt' personality. :D Or even better, pick one for someone else for kicks lol. No reasons need to be given, just keep it nice lol. :p

I think the only way is to totally abandon the sub model, make it F2P with the CC direct sale store.

I have to agree with this, most MMOs I've player got revived after going F2P. Even SWTOR's limited current f2p model got them a good amount of players. If not, that should at-least put those warzone and operation passes back on the market, idk why they thought taking the option away from freebies was a good idea.

I would love to talk to the individual who pays multiple subscriptions just to talk with himself on some game forum :p

I just think they need to get rid of the subscription requirement to post here - and on that topic, they've not done themselves any favors by limiting f2p so much. No other F2P game I've ever been a part of has so severely limited a player's options in order to force them into subscribing like SWTOR does. None of them limit posting to the forums based on subscription status, either.

I was a beta tester for swtor, an early access player, and played the game from day one of early access up until they decided to adopt this ridiculous free-to-play (except it really isnt) model. Since that change, I've been in and out of the game over the years, only playing for a month or two at a time when I'm bored with everything else on my plate. Difference is, if I want to come back and have a little fun here, I essentially am forced to subscribe for however long I'm playing, whereas all of the other mmo's that I jump back to now and then dont require subscription at all. If I want to go play star trek online, I dont have to pay a dime. Same goes for elder scrolls online, or DC universe online. I can post on their forums any time I want to in order to check in with the community and see how things are going or what new changes I should be aware of at that point in time.

SWTOR has been shooting itself in the foot with their "not-really-free" to play model ever since they decided to change from subscription only. They've lost so many players since that change that they've had to continually merge servers together just to keep up the appearance of having a lively population. I started on namadii corridor, and have gone through (I believe) 3 forced server merges already. Those merges have caused me to lose friends, guilds, and even character names, all in the name of bioware trying to save face.

I honestly think this entire game was just an experiment by EA to see how much they could screw with people and force them to constantly spend money, just so they could go and apply what they've learned to other platforms and leave this one to die.

GW2 forum General Discussion is very active, the rest of it is pretty dead. Class forums traffic is extremely slow.

I play every night and rarely post here, so take forum activity with a grain of salt, imo.

That being said, game's pop is dwindling, but that's what happens when there's no new content for ages. I mean, if you're gonna take people's money, you need to make new content.

I partially blame that one young, always positive, highly enthusiastic lady who commented on each and everything with utmost positivity for several months. It almost drove me crazy and I think she pushed away a lot of the usual critics, because her friendliness and commitment to this game, no matter what, was unbearable. ;) She has been very quiet lately. Is she even still around? (I forgot her name, sorry.)

No, wait. What killed this forum was all those love interest threads which commanded haters to stay out. They took it literally and... stayed out. ;)

If you want some action, you can always go to Dulfy's. There, you still get the scum and villainy you are missing here. :p

i've seen a day a couple of weeks ago where general discussion went without a post for an entire day or two.. yes this game is dying. I actually thought something was wrong with the website. :D all their "improvements" didnt mean squat in the end.

agreed, go full f2p/b2p with paid expansions and dlc.. make them earn their money. ESO found success with this option and they produce loads of new content for people who want to support them.

There are other forums and media channels for this on the internet, like reddit. And good riddance.

I'd be OK with given non subs a subforum just for them (this is what other MMOs typically do) as long as they keep things on topic or get moderated into oblivion ....

......but ABSOLUTELY NOT access to the entire forum. It would be nothing but axe-grinders, trolls, and subversive personalitys who want to interfere with game play and discussion any way they can. The forum would quickly become pretty much what it was in the early months after launch ---> 95% garbage rhetoric and perhaps at most 5% productive discussion.

There's some new content, but most of the posting happens after new content comes out and there hasn't been any since May. After the Rishi stronghold is released there will be an uptick. Then it will die down again until more new stuff is out. There has to be something left for just subscribers. We don't have much left that makes us exclusive anymore

I don't often just drop a quote and write nothing as reply, but this post deserves a bump.

AGREED.

Sub mode really needs to be dropped, or loosened a lot.

They took away warzone passes and ops passes from free players AGES ago for no good reason. Why are we not letting them even do those now, especially if they're ready to pay for them..
