Are there any disadvantages to not doing the KotFE questline on all one's Alts?

I have done the KotFE questline on my main, and on a char that I made to use the free lvl 60 char offer, and to be honest I do not use that char very much because it is quite a hassle, and much less fun to go through all the quests to recruit the companions again. I do very much like to do them once, with my main, but that's it.

So, I'm thinking of just not doing the KotFE questline on the rest of them. I am no wondering whether there are anu huge and/or obvious drawbacks that I am now overlooking. Obviously they cannot travel to Odessen, and Zakuul has got nothing to do (and I couldn't also see the taxi director, so couldn't get past the landing zone) but I'm not even sure if that's a disadvantage...

Any thoughts?

There are quite a few problems with existing companion romances not being recognized in KotFE, and given that there is really only one storyline through the whole KotFE arc, I would say that there are more disadvantages at the moment to doing the KotFE storyline on alts than on not doing them.

Going through with an alt to experience alternative conversation choice consequences is just about the only "advantage" to doing it on multiple characters so far.

^ This, pretty much. They took a game that heavily rewarded and encouraged playing on alts and made it pretty alt unfriendly.

The story is identical, so doing it more than once only rewards you with the slightest of differences. You have to grind to get back the companions you had, if they're even available yet. The influence and alliance grind is long, arduous, mostly pointless, and per character.

I haven't bothered to take more than two characters through the story, and if I do end up taking any others through, I'll skip all of the grinds.

IMO the advantage of doing KotFE with alts is a larger choice of companions, for example for my Dark Side Jedi Shadow I wanted Xalek, as there isn't a dark side Consular companion.

Another minor advantage is that you can buy better things with common crystals without having to pay 200k for the transport to the gift vendor and the vendor with pets etc. is story locked.

Thats about all I could come up with.

I ran the story 2-3 times I think. After that, all my alts did yavin $ to 61. Then leveled heroics 2+ content till max level. Saving the lock boxes for the one toon I leveled the terrible alliance grind on.

I did not miss anything the story might have given. I enjoyed keep my old companions. I definitely didn't need 23 generic companions. The 7 or so generic ones I have was fine.

Now that I think about it. I can't say there is a reason to run it more than once on Empire and once on Republic. The choice we know led to the same thing baring a few minor verbal changes.

I can't think of a single disadvantage of skipping the entire story and never starting it on alts.

I like the different companions to choose from as well. The only other reason to run the alts through now is we can do so slowly without really having to care too much. Don't have to do the grind so much as just get them to Odessen and Chapter 10 ready. We don't know what curve balls are coming, which companions we might lose, who might be added... and how the game changes to the extent that suddenly there might be a reason to want to get your alts current. And I really really don't want to have to feel obliged to run them all through that same story line as fast as possible, one after the other. I'd rather do it now, when I can do an hour here or there and not go insane with the repetition.

But other than those two things, yeah no reason to sweat over the alts right now.

Good feedback sofar, thanks people (and let this not stop you :D )

I'd be curious how it handles non force users given

the conversations that you have with the emperor. I can't see him giving a crap about a normal person who just happens to be a good shot or decent assassin.

Good point! But not good enough to ruin my Agent's and Bounty Hunter's career on.

Maybe it will be handled the same as with that other post-Revan expansion (I actually totally missed that one on my main, did it on my second recently and was not impressed. The one with the Emperor being 'Vitiate'.

Btw what I wonder, and some people might consider this question and certainly the answer a spoiler, is:

Does the KotFE post-chapter-9 questline always renders the same companions in the same order? I find it very likely that this will be the case, as most of the companions aren't even written in yet. They're 'teasering' with Kaliyo now.

(As I said I do have a second char with an Alliance but he has only finished chapter nine, and not anything else. And I think I'd rather give him a tour through the galaxy before doing all those quests again. Hence me not knowing this)

Some of the hints from Bioware folks in KotFE teaser interviews suggested that

Vitiate and Valky are the same person, perhaps that Valky is the "original" or that he is a variant of the Voice

Having gone through all of the class stories, there are quite a few instances where the Sith Emperor has made use of non-Force users as his agents, with examples on the Knight and Warrior storylines, and hints or suggestions to that effect on the Agent and Consular stories, unless I am reading too much into some conversations on those classes.

So Vitiate seems to place more value on non-Force users than the Dark Council does, using an individual with specific skills, unquestionable loyalty, or predictable behaviours, where such an individual would be more effective than a Force user. With that in mind,

Valkorian, assuming he is the same person as Vitiate, would also value the skills, abilities and achievements of a non-Force using character for their accomplishments rather than discarding them in a snobbish fit because non-Force users are in some way "lower".

After all,

every non-Force using class in the game at some point kills at least 1 member of the Dark Council,

so they need to be respected by Force users whether the Sith like it or not :)

Good answers on this thread.

It's been mentioned in passing but to make an important point explicit: "Old Story" characters CAN go do Odessen. They have to buy the 200K-credit legacy unlock to travel there. Once there, they can buy grade 6 companion gifts, etc.

It is also worth mentioning something that's pretty obvious -- you can still raise companion affection and not lose it when you go through the new story once you get that companion back. For instance, I had Yuun raised to 25+ affection on my trooper before taking that character through the expansion.

For some players, any advantage of having more companions to choose from post-expansion is offset by the fact they are very largely interchangeable now. The "original" companions are more than enough to hit the max on crew missions that can be done simultaneously.

I have been here subbing since launch. Sorc is my favorite class. I have probably leveled alts through that class 12 times now. When they announced KOTFE I was excited but after going through it 3 times I really don't want to do it again. I don't know what it is with the original class stories but I prefer doing them over and over again as compared to multiple runs through KOTFE.

The only real reason I'd take alts through KotFE would be to get them new/different companions. If you don't much care for the companions a class gets, that may be incentive enough to do it. For example, I find the Trooper companions largely unappealing, so I am considering taking mine through KotFE to get Theron Shan even though I'm not really interested in doing that story as a Trooper.

Variety in combat style may another thing to consider. If you're planning on doing a ton of Star Fortress, it might make it more fun to mix things up with multiple classes (ranged, tank, melee, etc). But if you have two KotFE characters already, that may be enough.

Really?? That is a very nice thing to know! I wish there was a thank button on this forum, but all I can do is post seven stars to express my gratitude:

Been there, done that. My Imperial Agent, who hasn't done the KotFE questline, sends y'all his kind regards from sunny Odessen.

But apparently we can only get there by priority transport — not with your starship's navmap... A bit weird imho.

On the other hand, there now apparently is no longer a cooldown on the priority transports. Last time I used those, it was like a 6hr cooldown or so.

I played the chapters with a boosted char, barely managed to get through the confusing conversations that turned out different than the available conversation options indicated. Then played the story with a normal leveled char with lvl5 dark and it turned out different again at certain points.

Im not happy about the empty starship but I finished all personal missions before starting the chapters. If I want access to odessen with my latest chars, I "might" play the chapters or if I dont have anything else to do. But its not really necessary anyway.

We dont gain anything by playing the chapters. Not gear or something like that. We only lose things.

Not true. Zakuul and odessen can be seen on the upper left side on the galaxy map, the new zone.

I know where it is (supposed to be), but on my Agent, who did not do the KotFE storyline but bought the access as a character perk, the planet is still absent from the map. He can go there using the priority transport, but not with his ship.

Which makes sense, because the ship docking bay is inside the Alliance base that becomes accessible in Chapter IX of KotFE (I forgot that when I wrote the remark about it being weird).

other than losing the story for those alts, no. then again why do anything past chapter 3 if that's how you see it. In-fact once you have done all 8 class's why bother staying at all.

It's a game play or don't. Chose to do what you want to do, leave the rest. Advantage or disadvantage is what you as an individual decides what falls under each.

I have zero desire to run it again, there doesn't seem to be much reason to. honestly, since they killed crafting I don't even bother to log in unless the wife wants to. I'll stick around as long as she wants to play but yesterday I voted with my wallet and CU got the thumbs up.

I, unfortunately, have 8 mains. These are the original 8 we were only allowed to have during early 1.x days. So these 8 toons go through EVERYTHING. Class stories? Did them 8 times (1 each). Makeb? Oh GOD I did it from beginning to end, 8 times. Oricon, Shadow of Revan, Ziost and KotFE.

While I LOVE KotFE's story, it really IS a good story. I could only do it 11 times out of my 31 toons on my server. 8 for my main 8, once for my Jugg Tank (was going to romance Lana then went 'eh I don't wanna lose Quinn as my husband'. Then did it twice on my two male toons when I found a certain someone, male persuasion, meets you there and my two males were romancing him cause the female companions from the original 40 leave something to be desired in the romance department.

So I have 20 more toons I could take through KotFE, but for them right now they're my alliance boxes gophers. I do heroics about 14 times A WEEK to get 8 people all 4 alliance specialists to rank 20 and any crystals, credits or boxes I use those for the companion gifts and give them to my original companions I've gotten back to rank 50.

So far, since October 20th, I've gotten 5 characters to rank 20 with all four alliance specialists and I think I have 6 of the original 40 companions to rank 50. Pierce - SW, Lokin and Scorpio - Agent, M1-4X - Trooper and Xalek and Talos - Inquisitor. Just waiting to get back my other 34 original companions plus do HK, Treek, and Nico.

I've done it 19 times so far and it makes the game so freaking unbearable, thankfully, its pretty fast but I agree with others, that they've made a very alt friendly game, unfriendly, and forget about post lvl 65 reacquiring of your companions, I think I'd literally die if I had to do that more than once, I'm really not sure what the DEVs were thinking or who they think their player base is, but leveling and gearing alts is one of the core features of these types of games that keeps players engaged and to ruin that is to ruin the game.
