WTH Embargoing the Star Cluster pack in 2.8.1???

I think the embargo is likely due to the outrage, at least in part. its a shame...a few good items in the pack IMO. But in my opinion this pack was a major goof in many ways.

Most importantly the lack of notice that this pack would contain no reputation, have different drop rates for armor and have higher collection prices.

I'm hoping it's a lesson learned. I'm worried this snafu might effect future pack sales.

As the next pack has stuff that I'd like to have I am going to be extra cautious next time before buying any pack until I hear feedback from people regarding it.

If it's changed then I know that they've listened, if it's the same as this pack was however... I will be less inclined to buying cartel coins in the future.

They can do whatever they want tho, that's just how I'm going to approach it.

Given the following:

- Lack of reputation for this pack/series

- This pack and the next one are named for the summer casino event

- Unlock prices are higher than usual (possible indicator of "specialness")

I would not be surprised if they had originally planned to have these packs both be limited time only. Maybe it was a trial to see if selling special packs for a more limited time would work well . . . like, say, a pack released for the month of December that has some sort of wintery/Life Day themed name. I can't say I dislike the idea in theory, but the execution was terrible IMHO.

However, I also would not be surprised if they decided to embargo this pack earlier than they had planned, due to the ruckus it has caused.

Sadly for me the only armor I wanted out of this pack was the Xoxaan’s Armor. I've been out of town since the pack released, got back ready to shop, but not a single chest piece to be had on the AH. I expect if one does go up for sale it will cost well over a million, which is too rich for my blood. I normally unlock several armor sets each pack, but it doesn't look like I'll be unlocking any this time. :(

I saw two or three chests on GTN yesterday, both on Red Eclipse and on the Progenitor. Um, unless somebody bought them pretty quickly after the embargo announcement. The chest costs ~1.35-1.5 million(I bought one for 1.111.111), other pieces are fairly cheap - 40k on the average. But the dress is really beautiful, really worth it. (The gloves are admittedly horribly ugly, though, will have to mix and match). The unlock is 600cc, though.

(whisper) Hey, if you unlock serveral armor sets each pack, how come a million is too much? I mean, unlocking several armor sets each pack must mean you're a billionaire. (is envious)

Just so you know Eric, this subscriber will not be unlocking anything further, or buying your worthless packs on GTN or off your shop...just so you know that I'm not bugged, but working as intended. Edited by Lunafox

Their whole logic behind the drop rates is ridiculous.

28 pages of one set on gtn. 27 of those full of legs.

There are so many legs and supps on the gtn they are worthless.

There are so little chests on the gtn that only a few will get them which makes every other part of the set worthless.

I spent my $20 as I do every pack, I figure support the game buy a pack.

Now I got crap taking up bag space which is worthless.

I'm done with spending that $20 anymore.

Has it occurred to anyone that since a lot of people were actually lookin forward to this pack as it has lots of nice items in it that this particular cartel pack might've sold much more than before. Perhaps they just want to make sure that the GTN doesn't get completely flooded and kill all the rarity of even the rarer items. It may seem a shocker but it could actually have a negative effect on future CM sales if people buy too many of a certain cartel pack. The packs would lose appeal if too many items are on the GTN as prices will go down and for lots of stuff I've seen they've gone down quite a bit.

I don't know this but I think it's a real possibility worth considering.

I could understand if a whole set was rare, but just to make chests or upper armour boxes rare I just don't get. Now the gtn is flooded with legs and not enough chests to go with them all. Soon all those legs will be worth nothing and if anyone has invested real money into buying packs will get no return for their dollars. If they were going for rarity in sets then they went about it the wrong way.

Yes, I do agree with you on that. It is rather odd how that happened and I don't remember it being like that in previous packs, at least not as much.

It wasn't like that before. Eric came out and said it was test. A test to see how stupid we are and if we wouldn't notice it. The fact that they admit it was a failed test but refuse to change it till after the packs get embargoed show what BW thinks of its fan base. What is funny is that it took them 6 days to release the information that they were doing test. People start asking if it was a bug on 6/13 (Using the thread that they replied in about it) and finial on 6/19 did they decide to get back to us. I could see it taking that long to get back to use if it was bug. Not a test to see how much they can squeeze out of the player base.

You know...if they had only launched this pack and said something along the lines of the following:

In honor of the festival of splendour, we're doing something special. We're putting two special cartel packs in the market for a limited time only. These packs will contain some oft-requested armor sets. Because we've heard your feedback and want to keep these sets special, we're trying something new. The chest pieces of these sets will count as super rare drops, so in order to get them, you'll have to be lucky indeed!

It would suck, but at least it'd be honest.

Yup. That would have managed it...

I hope they have a Lessons Learned process.

he never actually said what it was a test of though.... it could have been a test run of "limited edition" cartel Hypercrates for the event which is reasonable but the jack up in price of the Collections unlocks for EVERYTHING in said pack was a tad excessive for lore sets maybe everything else too yeh thats just pushing it....

I could understand if a whole set was rare, but just to make chests or upper armour boxes rare I just don't get.

Even so I do not believe this is new to this CM pack. I don't have access to actual numbers, but it did seem to me that the Sensuous Dress chest piece, for example, was rarer (and therefore sold for more) than the other parts of that set, for example.

And there is actually some sense to it: you must have the entire set to unlock, so if you want unlocking to be non-trivial to do, at least one item in the set has to be rare. But if you make more than one item rare, getting the entire set becomes much much harder: if two pieces are rare, someone has to get lucky twice or pay for two expensive items on the GTN before being able to unlock. Therefore, you make one and only one item rare, and that one item controls whether people can unlock or not.

Gotta admit...this is one fine post!

It's absolutely foolish what they did and their lack of desire to correct it. They'll pay for their greed hopefully...but then again, I doubt half the people claiming they're done spending $ on the CM are actually done spending $ on the CM...so...just a bunch of noise is all it seems to be mostly.

I doubt 10% of the people claiming they are never going to buy anything from the CM mean it. As soon as the next fancy new dress comes along they will line up with wallets open.

Well, obviously we don't have exact numbers to back that up but I think the Sensuous Dress Top was more expensive on the GTN, because not everyone buys the whole set to get it to unlock. Let's say there are 100 chest pieces and boots available and 10 people buy only the chest, because they don't want to unlock it anyway it leaves 10 boots which will then be cheaper than any additional chest piece that comes up. I believe there are quite a few people who don't buy everything so they can get the unlock. The Concealed Bodysuit Pants was always more expensive than other parts, but most likely not because it's rarer, but because more people want that specific piece and not the rest of the suit.

Unlocking is still non-trivial even when the drop rate is equal among all the pieces, because the RNG still plays a role.
