ETA on Advanced Class change?

Recommended Posts

It's a terrible idea. You need to roll an alt to get another AC. Why would you even want to do it?

Say you switch from Juggernaut to Maurauder. *ALL* your wearable gear would be useless since Maurauder cannot use Heavy Armour. Is that... fun?

And besides it would allow very strange possibilities.

Think: I play an Assassin up to 55 so I can sneak between mobs and then I swap to my Sorcerer which cannot sneak but I can play coolishly in Ops?!?!?

*IF* they come out with it, I'm otta here. Then the game is ruined.

Seriously...

I rather they don't add it as I have all classes 55, but these arguments are LOL.

You can just strip out all the mods and place them in medium armor gear.

No one is going to pay however much it would be to skip past a pack of mobs on their way to an Op. LOL @ that. Would take longer to do all that than the 30 seconds it takes to run past them. Stop trolling.

Being against Advanced Class switching is stupid. Honestly, if you're not going to use it, what do you care? Also who even has the time and/or patience to re-do every single thing they did all over again just for a slightly different play style? It's ridiculous. I'd rather just buy some Cartel Coins and use it for an AC switch or something.

I'm not arguing for anything, but if I were, I would argue that if you change your class, you should have to figure in the cost of learning the skills for that class as part of the cost on top of any overt costs. If you change your class "back" you would have to relearn all the skills for that class.

Why? The choice of switching an AC is just the choice of which role you wish to fill. It is a virtually identical decision as to changing you specialization. (Slight differences would exist due to the way specializations use talent tree points and ACs just have the abilities available)

You are not forgetting a set of skills when you change AC you are just deciding on which skill set to have available.

As I've said before numerous times the big division in ACs is about having heal abilities available at the same time as tank abilities. I don't have the metrics on such a choice but having a Bounty Hunter that could equip heavy armour and an off-hand shield generator with a full array of healing abilities while flipping between tanking stance or healing stance could cause issues in PvP balance.

But I don't see it as unrealistic to think a Bounty Hunter could choose to gear up as a Tank for one quest, then go back to their ship/fleet and regear to Heal.

AC swapping allows for far greater utility of character without disrupting the power balance between class abilities in any way.

It's even cheaper than that since the introduction of Adaptive armour (all social vendor, collectors edition vendor, security key vendor and Cartel Market Orange Gear). No need to swap out mods the armour would just change type.

If they chose to leave the game, that was their choice. My point still stands. if someone were not too lazy to actually earn that new class and decided to level it, instead of asking to have it handed to them, they could likely have done so within the 5+ months that this thread has existed.

You seem overly hung up on this "earning" and "lazy" line of thinking. Perhaps you need another reminder that TOR is just a game.

More options is always a good thing. I have yet to see one real good reason as to why this shouldn't be implemented. "Don't be lazy" and "you won't know how to play the class" are terrible and stupid reasons. I have already leveled multiple classes to 55, I have already seen the class stories, planet stories, random quests dialogue, it just isn't fun to keep doing it again and again, I want to be able to experience gameplay in a different way without having to completely re-do it all. If you really want to not be lazy then you should probably be doing something else with your time instead of playing an mmo, period.

There are no difficult classes to play in this game, some have a bit more involved but that's about it. With just a little bit of video watching, forum reading and half your class skills being the same, it would be very easy to properly learn how to play your other AC in an hour or so of switching. Either way though, even if somebody doesn't figure it out immediately it doesn't really affect you in any way, you don't have to group with them if you don't want to.

Not to mention putting this in would allow Bioware to go back to another one of their favorite things, either forcing people who want to switch to buy cartel coins, or another giant credit sink that they seem to favor so much.

There have been many reasons given however "valid" is in the eye of the reader and ALL have been systematically dismissed as "in-valid" hence why this has turned into the energizer bunny of threads..it keeps going and going and going..

We give example of why its bad, people dismiss them as invalid. And use the age old "emotional" argument that for it means "fairness, happiness, enjoyment, makes it better" and those against it are saying others must be "lazy, are against making it better, are not letting you enjoy the game".

So if you want "reasons" read the previous posts. If you are just going to dismiss what is said, why bother asking for reasons.

I didn't ask for reasons, I already read what people against it have said and the argument in favor of it make much more sense. The old "emotional" argument makes logical sense because is there any other reason to play this game than for enjoyment? No. So does it make sense to add a feature that makes it more enjoyable and doesn't negatively affect other's gameplay experience? Yes.

I wouldn't mind seeing the ability to swap out advanced classes because that would essentially open up more skill tree options. Though I think AC respecs should be a serious credit sink. Dual-spec is something else I would really like to see, if only so others don't have to wait around while I manually re-enter skill tree information when I want to field respect.

Of course there would be the requisite hauling around a gig bag full of different gear sets either way. Those of us who've raided in previous MMOs have learned to appreciate being able to hot-swap roles before a boss fight so the party didn't have to drop a character to bring in a specialist for one encounter.

Caveat, the queueing system is set up for available specs based on a single AC. How would it process multiple ACs for multiple players? Would all 4 players have all 3 roles lit up? What would be the (im)patience factor for a just-grouped party to spend time changing ACs and specs based on who brought what while they buff? I think the queue would work faster, but that might be offset by a 4-player party having to go through pre-raid tweaking routines just to run a flashpoint.

Estimated time annihilated. ;)

If something like this should ever come to fruition, there needs to be a very steep price via the Cartel Shop. This allows people to actually think about it. Ten thousand coins, something in that neighborhood. Leveling in this game is far too easy for it to be the flip of a light switch.

1000 is more like it. 10,000 and no one would ever do it. So if your real position is that it should never be allowed, no need for the passive-aggressivenss. Just come out and say you don't like it.

One thousand will never happen. And where did I type that I didn't like it? Comical. Comprehension is amazing, you really should delve into it. ;)

Your suggestion that it cost 10,000 is proof enough you would prefer not to see it at all.

Intellectual honesty, you really should delve into it.

Incorrect assumption.

If you had actually read what I typed, you would then be able to comprehend that reasoning.

I firmly believe that they should have a poll that commits people purchasing a consumable that allows swapping an AC and people will decide how many they want to purchase. Then implement this feature, and require those that committed to it to pay for the actual implementation. Any additional people purchasing this single use item or people purchasing said item beyond what they committed to would go to BW as profit.

Do this and I will stand endorse it 100% but will choose not to purchase.

What is "very steep" to you? 1000 CC? 1500 CC? I feel it needs to be expensive enough that Bioware could profit from it, but low enough that players would be able to do it if they chose to. 1000 CC seems reasonable to me...what is reasonable to you?

This is just a convoluted restatement of "I don't think it's worth the dev resources," which is a fair position.

I've got a bunch of sentinels and a couple guardians and since the Gree event they were sharing the exact same set of pvp armor and primary weapon for awhile. But the JK/Warrior is the only class that has a different armor amongst the specs. That is such a non-issue, especially considering the cost/time/effort involved with "whipping up" an alt to a similar levels/valor/etc..

And for the record, even though I have seven of eight ACs at 50+ and many sent/mara/guardians at 50+ as well (most players are lazy good-for-nothing slobs compared to me at this game), I still wish I could occasionally swap the AC on one of my main characters. Just to mix things up - it would be fun.

Ten thousand of course is very steep. At the very least it needs to start around five thousand. The standard monthly stipend the games doles out is what? Five hundred coins a month, something like that. So now if we go off the one thousand coin approach that would be two months of subscription time to change your Class. Which is fair. And if we go off the ten thousand approach, well, do the math... A very long time.

The problem is once you open that door at one thousand, EA is now on a very slippery slope. Which ultimately will lead to a "flip of the switch" option, via Legacy or somewhere else. Eliminating one of their initial goals, experiencing various classes. That's a whole different debate though.

The financial angle is something EA would have to work out. How much do we charge to try to make a profit from this option, versus, how much is too much.

To answer your question though, five thousand at the very least.

It needs to be priced at a sensible level, one where people would consider using it. 10,000 coins in the UK works out at about £50... I can't honestly see any one going for that on a one shot basis, to be honest not even for a switch that allowed you to flick back and forth.

I've always quoted around 1,000 to 1,500 for a practical compromise that already matches the prices they have put forward for services such as name changes and server transfers.

Leveling in this game is far too easy for it to be the flip of a light switch.

This line couldn't make less sense. If levelling is far too easy then why should you be offended if someone wants to avoid repeating that class content they have already played through. The ease of levelling is a prime reason for allowing an AC swap.

The ol' slippery slope argument. Quaint. And no more compelling from you than from Ratajack the first 300 times he used it.
