Same gender romance discussion

What is jarring to me is the compressed time frame. 50 levels of a platonic advancement, living, fighting and almost dying together. Even with "don't ask don't tell" when you were in the service, once you were stationed with people long enough you knew their sexual orientation (if you weren't a complete ignoramous). Then suddenly 10 (well now I guess we would wait for next expac so 15 levels later) what amounts to a revelation. It just stretches my suspension of disbelief knowing just how close you get to people when you live and fight with them the way our characters do.

As for the cut scenes maybe I didn't explain myself well... You would need to make Nadia not have to reach up every time she kisses her paramour...now she needs an equal footing mode. Now the males will have to embrace = and possibly even taller heights etc.

There is a difference between what the players know and the characters know. I wouldn't have any problem with Mako admitting an attraction to my hunter and having a dialogue option to establish that my hunter already knew, but since Mako didn't say anything she didn't want to press the issue. Your character never talks about any NPC's sexuality unless they bring it up in conversation.

Again, the game already has to take that into account for the different male body types, which can vary dramatically in height.

I'm not actually expecting same-sex companion romances to happen, in all honesty. I was pleasantly surprised with Lana as it is, for all that she's a very bland character, makes up a reason to end the romance when I finished Yavin, and is bisexual to boot. I'm not expecting more from Bioware than a token bisexual non-companion NPC each expansion, given how safe and slow they've been playing it.

Could be worse, I suppose. We could be getting Sera again. Worse than nothing.

Yes but we learn about our characters simply through their dialogue. Yes I had body language queues (going out to the club and seeing specialist so and so eyeing up a couple of guys while the rest are eyeing up girls) IRL but as we don't have that I go off of the dialogue and chat options. To me the chat options are the ones that give me a clue as to what my character is seeing.

And yes...but while there are short male character models but even the shortest ones didn't have to be coded to be able to tilt back for the tallest etc. Also the tallest is not programmed at the moment to be eye to eye with its romance option.

What about Kaliyo? She gives off a strong bisexual vibe even in conversation.

I peronally also think that light side Jaesa comes off as a bit of having a crush on lightside-SWs of any gender but it can be interpreted as platonic, non sexual adoration (which is most likely how it was intended by the devs).

I would say it would be more expensive. First it would require redoing cut scenes. Look at the relative heights and shapes of male and female characters...these would have to be redone. Second it could require some redux on voice acting...are those actors available or would they have to redo it. Second story wise it would be jarring for me. It would be no worries for a new toon but a level 60? And if you said "only for new toons" other people would complain... Basically more money and more trouble that it is likely worth. New companions though...not as much an issue.

Hmm... The animations already exist - same gender kisses already exist for both genders because we've got Lord Cytharat and Lemda Avesta from RotHC, and Theron and Lana from Shadow of Revan. All(?) BT2 NPCs that can be flirted with and kissed by same gender PCs of all body types. (Which means it might only work for BT2 NPCs (or BT2 PCs with non-BT2 NPCs) depending on the relative BTs... if that even makes sense?)

You're right on the VA though, at least for existing companions. And that they'd have to work out how to allow people who have already exhausted conversations with their companions to redo them. It might be jarring for you, but it might not be so for others. I personally wouldn't bother.

What I would prefer, at this stage, is that they introduce new companions with full stories of their own. Actually, I'd really like Lana Beniko to become a companion... >.> (I really liked her with my smuggler... really well done for a short romance - it did feel like... well it felt like a full romance, just compressed in time.)

I agree with the Lana Beniko bit, i would also like new companions with full stories that are romanceable by the same gender....i would like new companions of each role.....cause i would like cool healer companions, the current ones outside Mako and Elara Dorne tend to be rather annoying and boring to travel with and talk to.

Does anybody actually like Skadge? Pretty sure he comes it at number 1 every time there's a 'worst companion' discussion. :p
I like Skadge, but I could do without several others.

Qyzen. Corso. Quinn. I'm iffy on Torian. Broonmark can go, too, while I'm thinking about it.

I could space them and not miss them at all. A post-55 companion addition to the list of crew wouldn't be so bad. From a Warrior standpoint, Baras has been dealt with. Maybe a trip back to Tatooine for Sharack Breev is in order. I could use another apprentice.

Or Suri, Kira's friend for the Knight. Vaverone Zare for the smuggler.

Hell, my warrior let Tremel live. He'd be a great guy to bring on the crew instead of Quinn!

Tremel? What can he offer? He's some old zealous guy that never achieved anything and never will. Good riddance to him.

I can't see why people like him, to be honest. He's basically a weakend version of Harkun, just without the charm that Harkun actually likes you in the end(Given you tell him he was a good teacher).

*Yeah I know that Tremel adores you, his zealous affection and mad thoughts actually kill a potential good Sith (Vemrin), and that's just annoying. Vemrin isn't even a former slave, at least we don't get that fact so he's likely just "not worthy", even though Tremel is a former slave and Vemrin is actually more worthy than he ever was, with more potential than he ever had.

Killing Tremel is just... the sweetest joy in the entire Sith Warrior storyline.

*Oh; And I was shocked as Bounty Hunter when I got Skadge. Skadge, Blizz, that annoying demon guy. Three useless and annoying companions and two decent.... Almost got my crying.

  • 2 weeks later...

So after a long absence I decided to give the game another try.

The new RAs are a nice addition, even though it is painfully clear that they will end like other planet based RA and we will never meet them again.

Considering it is now two years after Jeff Hickman´s pre-Makeb reply on this topic that SGRAs with companions got delayed because of the change to free to play I have to say even if it is a hughe improvment it is still too little for my taste.

On the other hand looking through the various classe´s intros on youtube I noticed that the in most cases the only speaking companions are love interestes which raises my hope that the required lines havwe been recorded simultaniously and that in a future 3.x update there will be the option to reset the companion dialoge through the cartel market and allow the player to persue different paths including a sgra with the companions.

Well, they have said in the future they are going to be much more story driven again and that while the overall story will be how everyone fits into the galaxy's story, there will be personal things too, so lets hope that includes romance things!

Harkun as a romance-able companion could provide some interesting interpersonal dynamics. I would like him so much more than Ashara ;)

If you were an alien, fat chance, even if you told him how great a teacher he was early on in the piece.

He's also an elitist, racist pig; now Tremel, an elitist but not unviable as a romancible.

I would like, in addition to the current list of companions, a set of context-sensitive POTENTIAL companions as well. For instance, Harkun for Sith Pureblood, Human, or Cyborg characters but automagically excluded if you're an alien. Give us some companions that are alignment dependent or become available after the class story if you don't kill them or have them imprisoned or something during the course of your story. Similar for planet specific story arcs, like Taris, if Thana is still around at the end maybe she asks to tag along, and maybe she only asks if you're dark side.

And of course, make a male and female SGR for each class and alignment somewhere earlyish in the class story, act 1 or 2, retcon or not, "jarring" or not, it's better than tacking it on at the end so the romance feels overly rushed (a problem already present in act 3 companions).

With a new year, I can only hope that SGR Companions, a long awaited addition, will finally be added into the game. Ideally, two new companions for each side would be nice, two males and two females in total. It doesn't have to be too much, but it would be much better than a few simple 'flirt' quotes with NPC Strangers.

can theron shan be romanced successfully by the male trooper? I've seen the smuggler, but not the trooper and I'm trying to figure out what way does the conversation have to go.

Yes, Theron Shan can. He can be romanced by anyone who chooses to romance him, doesn't matter when it comes to gender or class.

I'm baaack. 😆

I used to be a kind of regular in this thread but left the game because I wasn't too happy with the implementation (or rather lack) of same sex romance options. I see with Shadow of Revan we have made progress, late, but oh well.

And housing looks good to me!

I guess the companion romance option is not off the table for SS romance? Need to catch up anyway, I stopped playing halfway through Rise of the Hutt Cartel. Still would like to be able to romance Corso with my male smuggler. 😊

PS: Realise my post is still the first one in the thread after the initial yellow one, lol, from two years ago. Let's see if some of the old peeps are still here.

Lent ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

How good to see you back!

Yay !

Mind you, the whole issue of SGRAs in the game has stalled. No progress at all when it comes to companions. Absolutely no comment from BW, even in private messages. Discussion in this thread is desultory at best.

On top of that, no commitment to class stories either... so I'm finding myself asking myself why I'm still here. So far the answer is: the presence of in-game friends. With friends, even boring "Oh God, here we go for the 8th time" content can be fun for a while.

You've just added to the stock of forum friends. Yay!

Speaking of friends, I think Tatile has finally given up on the game too.

Welcome back!

;)

Maaaaark!!! Yay, one of my old fav faces! 😃😃😃

Yeah, well, I was kind of coaxed by a friend of mine to look in again and there was this kind of 7-day return thingy that I came across yesterday, so I used that and today bought the new expansion and a GTC for 60 days so I will be here at least for a while.

Sad to hear there's nothing definite on class and future SGRA content, but well, at least with the expansion they've implemented options that both genders can romance which is something we've been talking about all the time!! A first step in the right direction, as far as I'm concerned.

I've read elsewhere that the focus would be more on story content from now on so I guess new companions and new class story is not totally out of the question. So basically we're back to square one with this, but I'm still looking foward to those new NPC options now. And as I said, Housing in SWTOR also looks really good so far!

If SWTOR doesn't deliver, I'll still have Wildstar to fall back on, but so far I'm happy to be back! 😀

Too bad about Tatile though, indeed they kept us waiting for a long, long time. 😞
