I don't see why people are so determined to hate on 3D space, yes bioware have screwed up with a few things, but personally I think SWTOR is a great game and you guys must too if your still subscribed. My point is that the game isn't actually based on the 3D space, but it would be a great extra to have and there's alot of potential with it. At the end of the day if you don't want to do space missions don't nobody is forcing you to.

If this topic is number 1 on the polls then people must want it, just dont rush it bioware. :)

Phill, there was a lot of potential with Legacy too. Ilum had potential. As I said earlier...I FULLY expect that "IF" they add in 3D space, it'll be nothing more than our current missions again. Same box, same objectives, same boredom after a week as we currently have. Bioware does a great job of over selling what they tell you they're doing.

Space World Events.

Rakghoul Virus in Space! Jawa in flying Sand Crawler to Sell Astromech pet for your ship.

Hmmm, can't tell if you are trolling or trying to be funny :p

My idea for space world events would be something like a fleet comes out of an unknown system and blockades somewhere. Would be a good lead up to launching a new planet or two.

I saw this on Google news and its got me REALLY interested!

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1333873/swtor_lead_dev_most_excited_by_incoming_space_features.html

For anyone who hasn't read it, basically SWTOR's "Lead Designer has told NowGamer that "the next iteration of space is the single thing" he's most excited about across all of SWTOR's incoming new features."

The article also mentions how 3D space combat came out on top on the poll Bioware gave a few weeks back out of a list of features we want in the future.

Could this mean 3D space combat is in the future for SWTOR?

If it doesn't I think a lot of people will be angry.

I agree with what you say about Illum and legacy that's why I say they have screwed up in the past and that they should take their time with this one if they do add it.

Was joking.

:tran_tongue:

Though world events for space would be a nice feature. Another nice feature would be a hanger added to the Fleet(s), where pilots could gather and discuss tactics, purchase new ships, mod ships etc.

i would have been fine if they would have just added a mass effect space style. get in your ship and manually move from planet to planet. even if it was just a hokey lil thing. Also you could go and do your gathering professions by harvesting planets like mass effect. Sadly I havent touched space combat since December.

I'd wind up spending a lot more time in space.

I dont know if this has been mention yet but we already know full control and flight space is coming, its there big 'SECRET PROJECT' that aint to secret but what it involves fully and when its coming is. I think they got it under a full NDA just as if it were a alpha and closed beta for an entire pc, you have more luck of getting water up a ducks bum then getting any info before they want us to have it. Two things.

First of all, they promised a complete revamp to the space combat system.

Secondly, they said that guild ships are a long way off but would be related to other work happening at the moment.

You can jump to conclusions a bit but imagine space combat going for the full X-Wing Vs Tie-Fighter approach but with capitol ships owned by guilds. :) PvP just got interesting, especially if you can exit your craft once docked like a boarding party.

Yeah, Elite was the original. And that was clear back in the early 80s. I've still got a Sinclair Spectrum that can run it.

totally, i used to love playing elite on my amiga, all ever did was do the trading part but was still addicted to it.

Someone should really make a parody of BioWare based on that Iraqi Minister of Information during the last Iraq War.

Instead of, "The Americans haven't broken through, we cannot be invaded", it's "BioWare's subscriptions isn't going down. We have no decline whatsoever!"

This please.

I am very excited for the next space combat "reveal".

I believe Bioware has been working behind the scenes on free roaming space missions ever since they saw the demand for it.

And yes, I can see the armchair devs in these forums complaining already:

1. No one asked for it.

2. Why aren't you fixing the bugs?

3. My guild is bored, we want more operations and we won't use the space combat.

4. We need more features from SWG, like player cities and cantina dancing.

Err...wouldn't Space Combat be a feature from SWG?

I said they will want MORE features from SWG.

And the idea of "space combat" is not something that was invented in SWG. :) It was dreamed up a long time ago in a different galaxy...

Something I'm interested in more than that (since I'm okay with on-rails arcadey gameplay) would be space combat that ISN'T in space. I wonder if they've considered ship missions that take place on the surface of planets. I think it'd be more fun to have that variety of taking out ground defenses/units and navigating through caves and tunnels.

I am personally very excited about this prospect. Every time I do interfleet transport, I just want to take control of that ship and fly around. How awesome would it be to see "your character" ship flying around, and be able to fully control it.?

The PvP implications could be astronomical!!! (Please don't hate on my ideas PvE players). Locate the Republic fleet and attack! This could limit interfleet transports because of a battle going on outside, in which case you can either join in to defend the fleet, or try your hardest to get off fleet without being obliterated.

It could potentially open up space travel, and let us explore "space"....maybe we find an uncivilized/uncharted planet to explore. Maybe on that planet are rare crafting materials, or new lore objects, or world bosses. This could add some variety, uniqueness, and could unlock new titles. How awesome would it be to have discovered something "on accident" that nobody else (who hasn't found it as well) has access to?

It could also unlock new quests. Storywise....lets just say your hyperdive is busted and it needs repairs. Bam! New quest lines. Maybe you need to disable a tractor beam/shield generator for a guild fleet battle. Now you have 2 teams of guild members (ground team, fleet team) trying to complete a quest which can allow the rest of the guild to attack with their ships...but only if the ground team completes their objective. One team is relying on the other. The enemy is trying to repel them (Can you say Return of the Jedi?)

How cool would it be to have to fight your way off of a planet (Like Han/Luke) in A New Hope (when leaving Tatooine), or when Han has to escape the Imperial Fleet in The Empire Strikes Back? These are some of my favorite scenes from the movie. Imagine what they could do with Guild Fleets, Faction Fleets, etc. It could be a whole new element to the game. It would give honest purpose to upgrading your ship. It would also give 50's something new to do.

As you can tell....I'm in love with the idea and look forward to seeing it. Hopefully BW nails it the first time around. I'd hate to see just an upgraded version of what they have. Jump To Lightspeed on SWG was amazing. I think BW can do something better if they truly put their heart into it...and not their desire for profit. Here's to the future...
