[Official High Resolution Textures Post] Can we get a clarification on this?

Lovely, now, can you please go outside and take picture "in nature"

Cheers.

Its definitely a trade off between nice crisp textures and horrible shimmering haha but some people (like myself) think its worth it until bioware fixes this issue....best to just try it out for yourself...

They're claiming to "quit" because of Bioware's handling of the situation. Really though, no one is quitting because of it. They're either using it to try to get leverage (stupid), or they've already quit and are just adding it to their list of grievances (stupid).

I personally love that even after all of this, some players still claim that there isn't anything wrong on their end.

Your statement makes sense, and does apply to a lot of posts, but a lot of people are quitting not because of how they're handling the situation, but because of the game not looking good in general (I can get some quotes if you wish).

I agree with you though, I still love the game regardless, I just hope Bioware can get this issue fixed.

Scumbag Bioware

Shows of the full potentail of their game offline to market.

Can only use med specs on live becuase of a Terrible engine.

Although they insult our intelligence, no need to go down on their level insulting them.

Sun has shed a light on them :D

From the Heroengine website

http://www.heroengine.com/2011/11/heroengine-meets-starwars/

All the details about how Bioware decided on using this less than impressive game engine that can't handle high res textures

For anyone looking at Heroengine, make sure you only look at what the engine had available 3 years ago or before.

A quote from the comment section of that article in that link:

heroengine says:

January 9, 2012 at 2:43 pm

I am sure that BioWare had rooms full of engineers who customized the engine for their needs. That is normal for projects of that scale. Because of the way they chose to convey combat and the graphical style, they clearly had to highly tailor the renderer for their own needs. I don’t have much contact with their engineers any more (the last code drop they took from us was about 3 years ago) so I can’t really speak to how much of our rendering technology is left in SW:TOR but I honestly don’t think there would be much.

On the other hand, from the videos we saw before release it looks like most of the tools and production process are still in place, and that’s what we focus on when we show people why HE is special.

I think the game is awesome and I am sure that BioWare will release patches that address the issues that people are reporting. They are a solid developer with an amazing track record for making great games that work well.

So ANY improvements made to the engine by its creators have NOT been put in to the version used by EAware unless EAware chopped and hacked it in themselves.

Im not exactly sure what "over chrome" means but a similar effect is achieved by forcing a negative LOD of -3.0 using nvidia inspector.

It greatly improves reflections, and distant texture sharpness but causes bad "crawling" jaggies even with AA forced....worth it IMO

Enable Ambient Occlusion in Nvidia Inspector as well, that's where the "chrome" and other shinies are hiding.

I also found something interesting while running around last night. If you go to an area with the "soft" white light, the shadows are as smooth as glass. But as soon as you put the character into the "harsh" lighting ( the bright yellow lighting is the worst ) that's when the Lego steps appear.

Shadows are working correctly, it's the lighting system, possibly the filters, that's screwed somewhere.

Yeah, if you look around a bit you'll find they've talked quite a bit about how their version of Hero Engine has been highly modified and customized, to the point where it barely resembles the version that they originally licensed. Any comparison at this point is probably kind of moot.

I don't know what your score is son, but you just found how they're limiting the textures. Congrats.

You know how when you play some games like Elder Scrolls for example and when you first start them up they'l give you a "Checking for optimum settings" message, then pick a setting based on what the game recommends for your hardware?

That's what you see there.

Difference is you can override the "optimum" setting other games choose for you, here you can't.

Sometimes I really do feel sorry for Mr. Reid. I honestly wonder if he experienced physical discomfort as he typed out the official reply he was instructed to deliver....

I have no plans to rage quit over it, but seriously.. That has to be the absolute worst official response I think I have ever heard...

Here's to hoping we get high res textures... sometime....

"“It’s not productized yet,” we told Gordon. “There are whole sections of code that is only roughed in and not optimized for performance or security. And there are very few comments and very little documentation.”

He didn’t care. “We are going to have tons of engineers. We can finish it ourselves. We’re going to want to modify your source code for our special project anyway.”

Enough said about the Hero Engine.

Did they use the hirez textures on the next patch's video? It sure looks like it.

Yeap, they will use them for advertisement but not in game, actually boggles my mind trying to understand the logic of spending the resources and $$ making your advertisement better than the product.

@Rockjaw So you tell us we can't use high rez textures, yet all the press packs for Rakghoul show them. Nice false marketing.

Im glad some gaming sites are starting to post on this issue, If this was an issue at my job i we would have have someone would be down someone throat saying ***. Fix this asap. I enjoyed playing but im trying to decide to wait a few months and then come back and see whats what.
