Why oh why can I hurt other players if I am not PvP flagged?

You could have also rolled on a PVP server where people are...I dunno....looking for PVP?

Is pointing out the obvious a specialty for you? Besides, I think you missed the main point of my post where I tried to convey how much I underestimated how much I would enjoy PvP here.

About the healing thingy...

Imagine your friend fighting an enemy and you just walk in and start healing him without your pvp flag being turned on.

An enemy can't attack you and he can't even kill the guy he was fighting with because you are healing him.

PVP system is just fine, people will whine about anything

You did not read any and just made a drive by posting right ?

If you DID read , it was said before that as such the game mechanic should simply NOT allow you to heal unless you turn the flag on. AKA : you cast the heal and it does nothing.

There should NOT be any way whatsoever to accidentally get flagged PVP. Any action done by a non flagged char should have no effect on PVP flagged char, unless they voluntary flag, be it healing, buffing , or even damaging.

lol, so many PvE players :D Enjoy being ownd on your girly servers

beside the trolling, what i find funny is the built in assumption we are all male.

Now that is quite funny.

Imagine being a girl and getting told to grow a pair and that you are girly.

Am I supposed to be insulted by that... ?:D:D:D:D:p

I have done this plenty of times. I find it to be cheap, but pretty funny. I will go stealth into a pack of lower level mobs and wait for a republic player to attack because you know they will aoe. Once they do they die.

Is it cheap? Of course. Is it funny? Oh yes. Should it be fixed? Definitely.

That is what called griefing, and you could certainly be reported for it.

GOD, would you please stop with the Junior High whinging. *simper* Just because you PvP doesn't make you better than me! *sniff*

You need to grow a pair and go on a PvP server, instead of doing easy mode PvP by forcing someone to flag for PvP when they didn't want to. You just want the easy win, which is why you don't want the current system changed.

It's funny.

I am a die hard PvPer, but I play on a PvE server with my flag turned on constantly.

Why do I play on a PvE server if I just perma-flag anyway?

Please direct your eyes to the responses of people who play on PvP servers.

Come on guys, could you try acting with the smallest bit of respect and tact?

Some people get honestly flustered by PvP. It's not their thing, they don't enjoy it, it doesn't make them less of a person.

You people make me ashamed to admit I enjoy PvP.

One of my favorite Gank maneuvers is to stealth into someones AOE, flag, and kill them, just saying.

Which means you are actually breaking the rule made by BIOWARE themselves exploiting what obviously is an oversight or a bug, tricking people into NON consensual PVP, and you anncounce it on the forum.

I seriously hope you get at least a warning, or a temporary ban.

And next time : read the rule of the server you roll your char.

There's no such thing as a "no-PvP" server. There are servers that try to make PvP discretionary as much as is practical without completely gimping the ability to fight other players.

Sigh. read the PVE server rule.

But i am getting the sinking feeling that "reading" does not seem to be a required skill for PVPer.

This actually brightens my day a bit. Not because some players are not appreciating the PvP mechanics, but that this option is available for others. Personally I think the game is far too safe. You can basically avoid entire areas of mobs without being stealthed, almost never having to watch your back. Ive found it to be kinda boring.

In fact I rolled PvE first to avoid getting ganked at low lvls only to find you pretty much wont come across anyone until 20+ anyways and by that time you can kinda take care of yourself. Also found out I liked the PvP here much better than I would thought, so Im left wanting for PvP encounters in a PvE world (until transfers are made available i guess).

I began running around flagged to see what would happen. Days passed and I never crossed anyone else who was flagged on Tat. Outlaws Den was empty. Seeing republic toons and not being able to attack kinda got to me over time. At this point I would welcome a shadow to creep up and get the drop on me.

Why would you roll on a PVE server? If you want to fight other toons that is specifically why they make PvP servers. Then you can attack anyone you see and they can attack you!

Oh, I see why. You want a one-way pvp street. Big man on a PVE server but can't stand the heat of a PVP server?

As I just made a post lambasting the PvPers for insulting PvErs, I'm going to do the same here.

Your argument does not become any stronger when you throw in an insult at the end.

Yeah, I know, they insult you sometimes, so?

Be the better man (or woman), make your point without the added global insults against all PvPers.

Most of us, the massive majority of MMO players, are both PvPers and PvEers so all both sides do by insulting PvEers or PvPers in general is basically ostracise yourself from the majority of MMO players.

Pure PvPers and pure PvEers are a minority.

That is exactly how it is. 100% of the people on this thread stating what we are asking for is unreasonable, and that we need to grow a pair, they are just people who play on a PvE server and just want the easy PvP kills, but can't hack it on a PvP server because they know they will always lose.

While I agree it should be changed, I don't recall doing this ever being labeled an exploit...link please? It's definitely not an oversight...many people complained about this in beta, and I don't remember a dev ever saying it was an exploit. People went as far as to say they would kick anyone in a heroic/FP that was PvP flagged because of this mechanic.

If it is an exploit, then just flag them, and you'll get the last laugh when they are banned.

If I am wrong, that means you play on a PvP server. Then why are you against a 100% consensual PvP on PvE servers. Obviously something like that doesn't effect you. So why are you so against something that has zero effect on you since you play on a PvP server?

Name an MMO where catching an enemy player in an AoE, even if you were targeting an enemy with it first, does not throw you into PvP mode. Go ahead.

World of Warcraft.

If you are not flagged, any AOE you do will not harm an enemy flagged player in the AOE, so it will not flag you.

You cannot harm an enemy flagged player with any AOE you do if you are not flagged yourself. They made it this way to avoid the "enemy jumps into your AOE to flag you" effect.

Let me start by saying I hate PvP - So I play on a PvE server to avoid it. I am also not flagged for PvP.

So why on earth can I accidentally catch a wandering enemy player in my AoE and automatically get set into PvP mode?

Not only do I not want this (Hence finding a PvE server!) but it takes me by surprise and I am dead before I even realise what is going on! Then I have to wait 5 minutes for the flag to wear off, during which time I can't go and quest because I know there are invisible enemy players around?

How did this feature make it live?

Even worse I hear is that if a PvP flagged friendly walks into your heal patch then you are flagged for PvP automatically! This is absurd and needs changing quickly because as I am getting higher in level I am seeing more and more PvP flagged players and I do not want to be restricted to single target attacks for fear of accidentally hitting someone.

I can forgive the bugs but this is going to ruin the game for me if it isn't changed soon.

what you are experiencing is pretty standard in MMO's if you attack a player flagged pvp you become flagged.

Then i should change my post to "Most PVPer in this thread seems to see reading server rules and previous post as optional", which is factual :D. Your point is taken I usually try to avoid over generalization.

Still, you have to agree it is quite disheartening seeing how many post seems to miss the point, and how many simply *TOUT* using an exploit, or simply can't udnerstand that PVE/PVP is a matter of taste...

They make as much sense as if they were telling me I should grow a pair because I prefer strawberry ice to chocolate split.

As linked above the rules says the PVP *must* be consensual on PVE server. Tricking somebody into a PVP they did not consent is therefor exploiting a bug.

City of Heroes.

Also just because 'thats how is it' doesn't make it a good idea.

Do you have any of your own opinions on stuff or do you just make statements to try and belittle people?

COH/COV only had a few areas where pvp was allowed at all and if you went into them you were flagged pvp to start with. There was no pvp except in those areas which is different than in this game, or eq, or wow, or eq2 or DAOC.....etc.

If you see flagged players you should be paying attention and acting appropriately. I see no issue with this. If you start casting AoE's with them around, you're making a bad decision. They're hanging around flagged because they want PvP. If you don't, then don't hit them. Simple. I'm sorry but it's PvP and he's free to flag if he wants to, just as you're free to pay attention to what the heck you're doing and smartly avoid him.

Sorry, but you logic is just plain ignorant. There are people that join PVE servers becaus they have absoloutly NO INTEREST in playing PVP...they rolled on a server that is supposed to cater to their desired playstyle. They aren't rolling on a PVP server and ************ about the ruleset, they rolled on a server where they should not be forced into scenarios, tricked into scenarios, accidently stumble into scenarios that go against their desired playstyle, they did after all join a server that is supposed to support what they were looking for when the joined. All these PvP junkies should just go join PVP servers if they want it so damn bad!

It has already been discussed, it is not so much standard anymore. Rift, Aion, and WoW were some that were mentioned in this thread that do not auto flag you for using an aoe attack while unflagged and it will not do any damage to the person who is flagged.

Since there are several folks on here who have said "quit crying and just pay attention to your AOE and know what you're doing", I hope that I can get the information I'm looking for from one of you.

Where in the game do you get the super power of being able to see invisible people? Is it a pair of magic x-ray glasses you can buy from a vendor? Is there a comic shop in the fleet where I can buy a comic book and order the x-ray glasses off the back cover? How long would it take for those to be delivered?

Is it a skill you can get? If so, at what level and who can get it. As a BH I don't know if I'll have to have a Sith escort with me everywhere I go to check for invisible people before I start fighting mobs.

I don't want to accidentally hit someone who's main goal is to kill me when I hit them with my AOE, so hopefully someone can give me the answers I'm looking for.
