The Tyranids are comparable to the Yuuzhan Vong, on a much larger scale. They are both powerful extragalactic invaders that sent scouting parties far ahead of the main force, and they both rely on biological weaponry.

Sources vary on the Tyranids' power, with one source saying they have already devoured thousands of galaxies, and others saying that the Milky Way is their first (apart from their home galaxy, if indeed they have one).

Even assuming that they have only devoured their home galaxy so far, that would still make the main Tyranid fleet a fearsome force, since it must have total biomass equal to the entire biomass of its home galaxy.

Its been projected by the Mechanicus that the Tyranid Race has consumed more than one galaxy worth of material so far.

how are space marines suposed to move? ... in there 'armors'?

nothing can beat a light-saber, people, nothing ....

you can deflect anything and you can cut and slice everything

you would only need a handfuel of Jedis to beat any W40K army,

even if they where colaborating with the Empire itself ... ^^

greetings

I'll reference the "Creation of a Space Marine" article for you. Including the previous, most Space Marines are taken in in their early Teens, and are veterans of more wars and horrors than you could possibly imagine by the time they're thirty.

CREEEEEEEEED!

Yes, but the more powerful Psykers would dominate the likes of Luke, Sidious, etc...

Calgar, Mephiston and Kaldor Draigo come to mind, and they aren't even Alpha Grade psykers, they'd still make the force look like a kid playing with toys.

Gotta agree with her here, Alpha Plus psykers (very rare, but they exist) have been known to be able to implode planets by blinking, they're basically physical manifestations of the Warp and, if they can be trained and untainted by the Ruinous Powers, generally become saints in the Imperial Faith. At least that's the only way I can explain some of the stuff those crazy bastards do.

That's even completely ignoring the God-Emperor of Mankind. This is the forty-thousand year old living God that has been single-handedly keeping four other Gods at bay for just over ten thousand years. This is the guy that can stop time, create warp storms that make Palpatine's best Force Storms look like a strong breeze (they cover Light years of space), and obliterated someone's soul while he was mortally wounded. And he's not even at full strength for half of those things.

Of course, if things get really bad the Imperium still has Ciaphas Cain to call upon, and the guy may be a total coward, but he gets stuff done.

Frak this, for my faith is a shield proof against your blandishments!

– attributed by Sergeant Alem Mahat, "The Book of Cain," Chapter IV, Verse XXI

That's right, this guy is so freaking lucky, and so good at covering it up, whole civilizations have thought that he is a direct instrument of the Emperor's Divine Will.

That's not even mentioning the Orks. The Orks are, undoubtedly, the single most resilient life forms in the Warhammer 40K universe, in fact, its been proposed that when all other civilizations have died out, Orks will still be fighting the good fight. They can't get sick, they can't get artificially created diseases (believe me, the Imperium and the Eldar have tried), they can't be mind controlled, they're immune to the corrupting effects of Chaos, and they have almost no vital organs, so good luck landing a killing blow. The Adeptus Mechanicus has actually sent out probes that have left the Milky Way, and all neighboring Galaxies that they have entered so far have registered Orkoid presences. They are the only life form that will still exist in the Milky Way if the Tyranids do manage to strip it down.

Finally we come to the Imperium of Man itself (this actually includes the Adeptus Mechanicus, Adepta Sororitas, Imperial Guard, Inquisition and Imperial Navy and much more). The Imperium's First Contact process most likely goes something like this "Holy Frak! Shoot it! But try leave enough of it intact for the Xenologists to dissect!". In actuality, the "leave enough intact" part of that is the least important phase of that plan.

If the Imperial Guard doesn't deem a battle worthy of sending trained soldiers (which they very often don't) they'll just send out one of their Penal Legions (think of the most psychotic, insane and freaking crazy criminals a society like the Imperium of Man can produce, and then hop them up on enough drugs to make them even more blood thirsty and crazy, that's a Penal Legion, they have a lot of these).

The Adeptus Mechanicus' main combat forces are made up of lobotomized cyborgs with weapons and armor actually grafted into their skeletal structure. They can not be mentally influenced, they can not be demoralized, they do not retreat. Oh, and they communicate in Binary so good luck tapping their communications.

The Adepta Sororitas may sound like a sorority, and that's because it is. Of Nuns. With armor. And flamethrowers. These women are so fanatically devoted to the Emperor that many societies on Earth (read all) would either try to lock them up, or put them in charge for being the crazies mother *********** on the planet. They're basically nuns, wearing Space Marine quality armor and weapons, only with more flamethrowers.

Then you have the Imperial Navy, where each ship carries at least one planet destroying torpedo (at least) and the smaller escort vessels are the size of an Impstar Deuce. The average range for naval confrontations for these guys is in the hundreds of thousands of kilometers range and the preferred close range tactics are boarding actions. I'd love to see how a Star Wars ship stands up against an Imperial Navy boarding party (basically thousands of slaves given mind altering substances to make them more aggressive and have faster reflexes, given shotguns and told to point them at anyone they don't recognize and pull the trigger, stuffed into a boarding torpedo and fired at the enemy ship).

The Inquisition's preferred method for dealing with alien civilizations is to call in Space Marine chapters to cleanse the planet, or just kill everything on it via Virus Bomb or Cyclonic Torpedo. That should tell you enough about them right there.

I won't even get into the Chaos and Eldar. And quite frankly the Tau are too inconsequential on the Galactic scale that the only reason they still exist is because everyone else has bigger problems to worry about. Like Demons trying to eat their souls and Tyranids trying to eat them.

It has already been stated in the canon that the Tyranids have devoured the biomass of 12 galaxies before arriving at the Milky Way.

I rather have a Imperial Guardsman protecting my planet then some SW troopers cause i know at least the Guardsmen can hit his target.

A jedi would be similar the a Eldar Harlequin except can use the force. But they would still have to fight smart cause a jedi that is trying to fight a Space Marine equipped with a power weapon head to head is gonna lose. Space Marines perfer close quarters due to the fact it all muscle and skill then.

The starwars universe would have to have a droid army just to keep up with the numbers that WH40k can produce even then would only enrage the then cause droids have AIs and that is a big no no, AI is what produce the Dark age of Technology if i remember my story right.

To be fair to Stormtroopers, there's a scientific reason for the Stormtrooper Effect.

SW is a rounded out universe, 40k is WAR on an intergalactic scale, in terms of face punching SWs wont even touch 40k.

I think 40ks lore is deeper than star wars but is more one dimensional

oh and for ground seiges SWs sends in walkers, 40k sends in titans, a legion of AT-ATs couldnt take on a sole Imperator

The funny part is that they are wrong. Since the current state of the Imperium is an utter and total inversion of the god emperor's vision.

The Emperor didn't want to be worshiped as a God, the sad part about that, is that for all intents and purposes he is a God.

He also didn't want a society built around fear and repression.

Speaking of which, another one-up to WH40k:

They actually have an excuse for their technological stagnation.

Yea they do, the last time they built droid like automatons they were corrupted by Chaos and almost wiped them out.

Which when you think about it, is completely freaky that machines can be corrupted by the Ruinous Powers.

I thought it was the templates or what ever super rare ancient lost tech was corrupted so it built the corrupted machines?

I always did like the twist the the Emperor didnt want to be a god but now that he is worshipped as one he has gained strength from those trillions in the void. Since it is a materailzation of emotions.

I would give it to WH40K for this intergalatic smack down. Its a universe built for war and destruction.

It is interesting to realize that he's only grown stronger after having been mortally wounded and confined for ten thousand years.

They are more than just that, they have living saints, angelic women that have turned an impossible situation into ultimate victory, they are the highest manifestation of the God Emperor's will, they are his angels, they make the mightiest of Khorne's Bloodthirsters turn tail and flee.

They have the power of Faith, it can make their entire army into either a vengeful holy fist or into a force of invincible holy martyrs, they have taken on the greatest of Chaos' forces, and smashed them back into the warp, they have been smashed and defeated, only to become nigh invincible and destroy all their unholy enemies with righteous fury and holy flame.

The Sisters of Battle are the greatest force the Imperium can call upon, more loyal than the Adeptus Astartes themselves, more ferocious than the Blood Angels, more holy than the Black Templars, and mightier than even the Grey Knights, none of the Space Marines have the power of Faith and the leadership of the Living Saints, they are the one force that in comparison makes you thankful to be fighting the Space Wolves.

Adeptus Sororitas, not one force in the galaxy can match their devotion to the God Emperor of Mankind, and they are justly rewarded.

Someone was saying that there's no one in the WH40K Universe with half the brains of Thrawn.

Well, just to elaborate on what Rayla_Felana said:

"These Warhammer folks are morons; their idea of strategy is massed human wave attacks - wait, who parked this Emperor Titan behind this bush?

CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The end.

PS: Now, they say Abaddon the Despoiler's supposed to be a pretty good commander or something like that, but damn I can't tell, because his win-loss ratio is currently 1 to 12! :p

Lmao, Creed has got to be both the greatest military strategist ever and the most hilarious genius of all time, rolled into one.

Tau Commander- "Pitiful humans, no artillery, no tanks, no titans, these Guard are oblivious, captain, spring the ambush."

*nothing appears*

"Captain I said spring the ambush!"

*realises he is surrounded by 12 Emperor class titans.*

CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

Or:

Chaos Marine Captain - "Sir, all our forces are in place to begin the assault on the corpse-worshippers."

Chaos Marine Warmaster - "Very well. You may fire when ready."

*no response*

"I said, you may fire when ready!"

*Warmaster looks around and realizes that his captain is an Emperor-class Titan.*

"CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!"

Someone sounds like a Sisters of Battle player. I completely agree for the most part, and what I posted was meant to be nothing more than a very general overview. And I'd definitely rather fight the Space Wolves than those psychopaths.

But yes, I am Sisters of Battle player, although, everything I stated is in their two part White Dwarf issue description
