New race for the Star Wars The Old Republic
MadDutchman replied to orichichan's topic in Suggestion Box
Hey, a new species thread that actually adheres to the new species requirements. Nice change that The one on that list that I'd really like is Pantoran, but any others would be good too. -
This is not how force barriers work I'm afraid. Like any other force technique, it requires training to learn to utilize. And learning to shield oneself from lightning is a different beast altogether. While the NFU characters might have sensitivity to the force, it is clearly not enough to actually harness it. Otherwise they'd have been trained (quite forceably in the case of Imperial NFU characters) to be Jedi/Sith. Ex. in Imperial Belsavis, if you give attitude to the dread master, they will telepathically attack you. If you are a FU PC, you can resist them. If you are not, you cannot, and are overwhelmed before they release you. So exceptional trooper (or any other NFU) against a average Sith? sure, I can see that But exceptional NFU vs exceptional Sith? can't see it under level playing field (ie. not ambush etc.) (case in point, Jango Fett. Took out multiple average Jedi, but didn't stand much of a chance against Mace Windu)

Why would the name Talia be banned?
MadDutchman replied to BelorfinSiana's topic in General Discussion
I've never had much trouble finding a name (and I make a lot of alts) I find just using the random name generator to find something I like the sound of, then just playing with the letters and apostrophes until I get something to work -
They tried instant gratification with gear already. People complained
-
The mood honestly doesn't look much different to me this expansion than any other. They are still complaining about gearing. (The exact complaint changes but still) They are still complaining about skills They are still complaining about too little story/ops/PVP etc (whatever form of content that that player wants more of) They are still suggesting we go back to version X (where X is some previous idealized version), often times a few years after making all the above complaints about that version. They are still suggesting that the player base is going to abandon the game in droves, or some other versio9n of "the game is dead/dying" With all the hyperbole, honestly I'm not really that surprised BW doesn't acknowledge a lot of it.

Well, I'm afraid you're not going to get them. The thing about putting hard numbers into the story, is it's just asking for trouble later when you need to keep it consistent and sensible. You might be able to get an estimate on capital ships based on how many are used to defend critical objectives, or are in major fleets, but that's about it.

rubber banding is typically caused by network latency, not FPS issues, so really not relevant, and yes, probably will resolve itself when some random technician gets off coffee break and fixes a router somewhere. OP, what is your in game FPS monitor saying, and what colour is it when it happens? (ctrl + shift + F to open if by chance you don't know)

I give this one to starkiller. I do not really consider CSs to be really relevant from a lore PoV, I only really consider what we see in cutscenes to contribute to relevant feats. I feel it really does just boil down to Starkiller's awesome command of the force. In terms of a lightsaber skill, I'd say there are about evenly matched, with the Wrath perhaps having a bit of an advantage, but the Wrath does not demonstrate anything close to Starkiller's force abilities. Simply put, choking the life out of people or tossing them around like rag dolls just can't compare to ripping a Star Destroyer out of orbit

In order to do real time moderation, you would need a minimum of 5 people per language (assuming maximum 40 hour work week and 24 hour coverage and a single person could manage all chats for their language while they are working) At US minimum wage, that means ~$15k * 15 = $225k year. That does not count any other expenses related to having them employed (computer resources, space etc.) For that bare minimum price, they could easily hire another 4-5 engineers to work on the game, fixing bugs, implementing new features etc. Not hard to see what will give them a better ROI

Unless you ran pingplotter, you really can't say that one way or another Simply put, just because the route from you to your ISP (or other sites) is good, doesn't mean the route from you to SWTOR's servers is good. Most of that route will be outside the control of both your ISP and BW. Your best bet is to run pingplotter and see if there are packets being dropped in between you and the servers. It's possible this is just a server load issue, but those are far rarer than network woes. If you do find a bad hop, notify your ISP so they can contact the relevant parties

What are you going to miss the most when 7.0 hits?
MadDutchman replied to OrionSol's topic in General Discussion
Very little I think I'm actually looking forward to the chopping down of abilities/utilities (unpopular opinion I know) And I don't believe for a second the player base will meaningfully shrink. We'll lose the usual loud doomsayers (who will probably be back within a few months, per usual) but otherwise I expect the usual post launch spike of players that will qu8ickly dwindle back to roughly current levels as the locust crowd finishes the new content and moves on. -
You can try a file repair If Steam, use the file verification in steam If bitraider client, go to launcher location in file system and delete bitraider folder if non-streaming client: run the repair from within the launcher Also if you can post your CPU and GPU, maybe someone else will have had the same problem

I believe there is at least one SH decoration as well

Well guess what? those "stupid people" got what they wanted. The poll in question had, in order, Cathar, Togruta and Nautolan as the preferred races. Only thing you seem to have is you're own disagreeable company

Class Story Difficulty Is An Absolute Joke
MadDutchman replied to amazingpie's topic in General Discussion
You really shouldn't be surprised with a thread title like "Class Story Difficulty Is An Absolute Joke" Not exactly nuanced, and definitely provocative. Which means people will view your actual post through that lens Remember, this is story content. It's supposed to be accessible to the widest audience possible, including those who may have difficulty playing due to a injury or disability for example. Even a small uptick in difficulty may not mean much to you, but can effectively force people out of the game if it's critical path story content. (see SoV fiasco) I would be in favour of increasing the health pools a bit so the bosses last longer, but I do not think they should actually pose a real threat to you, unless they also implement instance specific difficulty (like KOTFE/KOTET) -
It's been awhile so I might be paraphrasing a bit, but according to the devs, the Twi'leks were built by a "crazy person" Things that really should be simple just... aren't. That being said I too would love it if they finally made it universal (and not just Twi'leks. I think Togruta and maybe others are missing them too). Especially with the DvL toggle going away making it much more difficult to stay at DS 1

Sorry, this is a Teen rated game. If you are really in kindergarten, this is just too mature for you.

I don't know the full details on the PTS, but keep in mind that when using the launcher, it will go through multiple download and install cycles. Steam however has only one progress for all the files (and has much better servers to boot)

Can we see screenshots of graphics upgrade for Legacy of Sith?
MadDutchman replied to AxelStorm's topic in General Discussion
I don't think the OP was actually referring to the UI, rather the other visuals... In the case of the latter, yah, just check the PTS. In the case of the former, PTS ought to tell you what the layout of the UI supposed to look like if not the final product. -
It's not that it couldn't be done (see GSF after all), it's that BW obviously does not feel it would have a decent ROI Space combat isn't really this game's "thing". It's not EVE or Star Citizen, and it cannot be expected to be able to just drop key features of those kinds of games into SWTOR. Now, I'd absolutely love an EVE style game set in the SW universe (learning from some of that game's mistakes of course), however to be done right would require a whole separate game, or a game that never becomes a game (see Star Citizen trying to be everything...)

The reality of the situation about BW forcing players to choose an AC/CS? I think I figured that reality out 5 years ago along with almost everyone else. And if your reality involves introducing challenging gameplay via hard to sort inventory, you can keep it. It won't affect me one bit since not even BW is mad enough to deliberately gimp their UI to introduce "challenge" Is there another "reality" relevant to this discussion you want to talk about?
