  1. I just don't get this. Why is "time spent" such an important figure for you guys? So important that you actually seem to think that just being logged on longer than someone else means you should get statistical advantages over them? Hell, why would you even WANT that kind of system? I'm all for gear and stat progression in PvE. That's just the kind of environment it is, it's designed to keep you progressing through various tiers of content and levels of difficulty, etc. But PvP isn't PvE. It's supposed to be a pure competitive environment. Player versus Player. Why is it such a foreign idea to you that everyone be on even footing there, with the results determined by who is the better player? Why does it appeal to you to have the ridiculous figure of "time spent" take precedence over that?
  2. Yeah, that was my point. Penultimate means next-to-last, not last.
  3. Pretty sure that's not what Role-Playing Game means at all. That's what many versions have perverted it into so that we'll keep mashing that lever in the skinner box hoping food comes out, but that's what what the "base definition" is at all.
  4. What? This is the first I've heard of that, no one else has said anything of the sort.
  5. Lets not bundle "skill" and "time" as if they're remotely the same thing. Sure! Give us some rating system, cosmetic awards, titles, speeders, a public ladder, etc. Gear? No. Gear is the worst kind of reward.
  6. Interesting. I'll have to give it a shot again. It's one of those things that seems so underwhelming on paper, but then I see players that I know are no slouches swearing by it. =D
  7. Why does there need to be a purpose? I just like seeing how many medals I can get in a WZ. (While focusing on objectives, of course).
  8. Don't presume to speak for all "hardcore PvPers". Especially since I'm sure most people define themselves as "hardcore" because they grinded out a ton of valor and think that means something. I'd like to think that most "hardcore" PvPers would rather see a system that is based on gear equality and rewards the victors with things that give recognition in some way.
  9. I'm from "back in the day" (Woo, MUDs!) and I have to say that it sounds retarded when people go on about how they put so much work into a valor rank and they deserve advantages in PvP. Really? Because grinding out valor is hard? Serious PvPers don't give a **** about "working" for PvP gear because we want to fight the players, not their gear. I want to be a better player than the next guy and dominate him, not beat him because I started with a 10% advantage.
  10. I don't wanna start an argument in your thread, but....why? Watching your video - just as an example - almost every time I saw Kinetic Ward up it expired with 8 charges left on it. Sometimes 7. Even with 2 or more people attacking you. Only once did I actually see it run out of charges before the duration expired, the scene with the Marauder and Assassin on you. That just doesn't seem like a stellar trade off against a focus, but I suppose it's not earth-shattering.
  11. With the way root works, complaints about any other ability seem silly.
  12. We covered this same topic in your double-posted thread over in the Assassin forums too. The bottom line is that shielding works on so few attacks in most classes' rotations and is still just a chance to mitigate a percentage of the attack even on the ones it does work on. So it's a percent of a percent of a small fraction of the majority of incoming damage. Pretty sure we worked it out to be 1% damage reduction, MAYBE as high as ~2% if fighting classes with a lot of weapon attacks. Now if you're running the Huttball then sure...do everything to maximize your defense since that's basically all you're doing. But in just about any other situation, I'd rather have the extra damage to put more pressure on the opposing team over the chance of maybe reducing incoming damage by a tiny amount. Get shields to work on Tracer Missile/Grav Round and then maybe I'll consider it.
  13. When will you people stop feeding this guy?
  14. Threads like this really confuse me. Do people really just totally ignore all those buttons that appear on your bar when you train? It's like people are shocked to find out they have interrupts and stuns and whatnot.
  15. Pretty much that. I'll play Darkness over Deception any day. Why? It's just that much more effective. People swear up and down about how Darkness is easy mode and Deception is just harder to play, but there's a difference between "Easy to play" and "Just plain more effective." and that's what Darkness is to me. Yeah, I can burst healers down easier in Deception with cooldowns up, but that's about the only attractive thing about it. Darkness on the other hand gets such an incredible toolbox and still puts out good, consistant damage. It's so good that I'm really of the opinion that a lot of the Darkness talents should be made baseline, but that might be going overboard.
  16. Bad news, Inquisitor knockback isn't instant either.
  17. If there were medals for objectives and such I'd agree. There's not. Like I said, most medals are friggin' free. Especially for tank classes. It's not uncommon for me to get Invincible on my Assassin in the first encounter of a warzone if there's a decent sized battle over a node. It's just that easy to get medals.
  18. But medals don't mean you played "super good" in any case. Most medals are already basically free (2.5k damage hit? 75k damage? Killing blow? lol) You get a couple more free for playing Voidstar...er, I mean for hitting high values like 300k damage. Besides, none of them have anything to do with actually winning the match. Medals have just never been about your actual skill. They're just a fun little thing to occasionally E-Peen around with, but since they give extra Valor and Comms they really mucked things up for some classes and gave way too much to others.
  19. You keep talking as if medals are a function of skill rather than just a function of your class/role. My wife heals her *** off and gets like 4 medals for the entire game. I get that many in 2 seconds by putting Guard on someone. Wooooo, skill.
  20. Tab targetting really is just plain awful. I have no idea how it chooses the targets it does. Auto snap on the camera is terrible too. The worst is how strange the engine behaves with positional syncs and such. Huttball can be a nightmare sometimes with the warping, stuttering, Z-Axis errors and other nonsense.
  21. This is a good change all around, medals were a neat idea but they just didn't end up working well in practice. Under the new system: Healers don't get totally screwed on medals. Hybrids/tanks don't progress at a compartively insane rate. You can still E-Peen with your medal count if you want. Hopefully it'll encourage objective focusing and less medal farming. Lets face it, the number of medals you got in a WZ was very rarely a product of your skill or contribution and typically more a product of your class role and abilities.
  22. I guess it's amazing to me that after all this time and all these posts, you still have some people saying it's "obvious" that Right/Left means from the spawn, and others saying it's "obvious" that Right/Left means on the map. Somehow it eludes them that it's this very inconsistancy that makes East/West much simpler. Instead we keep seeing posts with people saying "lol u don't know ur rite from ur left".
