  1. They're just being dramatic. 200-300k is just silly. However I don't really see much growth simply based on current server trends. Most mmos have a surge of subscriptions at launch, then things kinda teeter off after the first few months. Mostly it's people who have tried it and didn't care for it, they usually leave within the first couple. As time goes on I think you'll see the game's true numbers, those in it for the foreseeable future. Game might settle into a little over a million subs as time passes, depending on how fresh they can keep the content. This number is just a guess really when you consider the saturated mmo market, then you have to anticipate other titles coming along that might grab people's attention, GW2 or even the secret world. Edited to add, even bioware's own mass effect game might cause a population decrease when it hits in a week or so. Not a subscription hit necessarily, and it being a single player game and all. Just think people will take time off and be playing that. I've been enamored just with the multiplayer aspect of the demo myself, let alone the core game.
  2. Nonsense is a pretty good and apt word to use here. That quote has always been the stupidest reasoning for not adding some varied species. I'd love a duros smuggler, since Cad Bane is one of my favorite characters. (yeah I know he's a bounty hunter, but gunslingers get the coats and his trademark hat)
  3. There are people who enjoy the game out there, usually they are quietly playing though and aren't very vocal. I wanted to like this game myself, as you said, it has potential, but right now it is missing a lot of what it would take to be a good starwars mmo. I don't hate the game, my issue is that to me, it's very very bland. Perhaps if this was my first mmo, I'd think differently, but having played mmos since anarchy online first came out, and having played many titles since- swtor just feels very mediocre. The class stories are pretty impressive, but therein lies the issue for me, once you move past these, you are treated to a very minimal variety of quest objectives (i.e kill 20 of these, gather 6 of x, loot 12 of this) Even star trek online tried to mix it up a bit with diplomatic missions and such that didn't involve bashing something's head in with a weapon until the quest was over. More social activities would be nice too, things for players to do when they aren't out questing, just to get people together and talking instead of zipping to their ships for the next quest hub, pazaak, something, anything. Lastly, the species, more variety please. For a universe with so many varied beings, having just differently colored humans basically is a bit of a letdown. Nautolan, rodian, trandoshans, kel'dor, cathar, duros, any number of these would be nice. i also don't mind at all if my character doesn't speak basic, I'd be content if they just use the alien gibberish with subtitles on screen. This isn't a bad game, it's just not special, and I am willing to wait a bit. However in a market that is already saturated with other titles, with more on the horizon, a game company really has to be on their feet.
  4. How dare you bring logic onto these boards? You realize you're making these silly replies about dps checks pointless?!!! Seriously, you're right, having a buncha dps geared up, it's no different than stacking healers. Either way the result is the same, There needs to be new ways for bosses to challenge raids, some mechanics are just rather tired. That's mmos for you though, make a new game, and just use stuff that's been around since Napoleon was playing mmos.
  5. Perhaps, but a lot of people end up doing just that, lot of things are bearable when you're getting paid well for it.
  6. My account doesn't expire until June, soooooo the game has until then to liven up a bit. new races would do it for me, something that doesn't so closely resemble a human.
  7. I'm obsessive I suppose. I can't leave a planet until I've done them all. Then again it helps to have family and a couple friends who are within the same level range, if not, higher then they can just run me through so I can at least see it.
  8. Funny, you say it's his 15 bucks, then proceed to tell him what to do with his posting rights he paid for.
  9. If you play a dps class, chances are when the tool goes live, you'll be waiting 30+ minutes in the queue as well.
  10. I never cared for the restrictions, and that is from a purely rp standpoint. While red sabers were traditionally the domain of the sith, it wasn't unheard of at this time in the galaxy to have naturally forming red crystals and not the synthetic type. On the subject of synthetic crystals, through the process it was possible to make ones that weren't red. This became important in the new jedi order when natural crystals were virtually non existent. Sith usually choose red, but again there are instances where some sith didn't use a red saber at all, Exar Kun for one.
  11. I only ever use model 3 and 4 for female characters. Anything less just makes you look underfed and anorexic. That's just my opinion, way too skinny. In contrast, male 3 and 4 look ridiculous. 3 Only seems to fit a sith warrior heavily armored.
  12. In the interest of starting a thread that has nothing to do with quitting or how much the game is lacking, I was going to ask about micro transactions. I was more or less curious about if people think they will ever make an appearance in SWTOR. I'm talking of things like saber hilt designs, armor sets without mods in them, new speeders and such - little knick knacks that wouldn't affect gameplay. I've always kinda liked the idea to get small extras like these in mmos. What are your thoughts on the matter?
  13. Wouldn't expect a full on expansion for another year mate. You might see content patches in the interim though.
  14. Considering the mini games that existed already in the first kotor, it wasn't unreasonable to expect little diversions like pazaak or an instanced area for speeder racing. Even swg had speeders and areas where you could just zip around that weren't confined and filled with enemies who knock you off in one hit.
  15. Not everyone likes to be the good guy. Just saying. Many of us have been raised on enough stories where only 1 side is ever presented as triumphant, the "good" side. The world really doesn't work that way, so I think it's why some people like to make darker choices within the game, if for no other reason than to be different from how most stories in games go. Can also be seen as stepping outside of one's shoes and acting out things you'd probably never do. At least to me, that is what roleplaying games are all about. So yeah, i usually end up playing some evil figures, or shades of grey characters.
  16. If you were any good, you'd play speed chess.
  17. Done the flashpoints already, don't want to see the same tired crap over and over again. They're not that good to see 100 times more. I just wouldn't group with a new person. it'll spare them from my hitting spacebar, and they can spare me the monotony.
  18. I dunno, I had a legit issue, I posted about it the other day. I submitted a ticket because for some inexplicable reason, my light side jedi had an equal amount of dark side points despite never making a single dark side choice. I don't have and never have had diplomacy on this character either. I was just told "we've forwarded this to the appropriate parties, but we won't be updating you on this" real nice.
  19. Nothing wrong with addons, especially if they clean up the mess that is the default UI and makes it easier to keep track of my abilities. Squinting and watching the action bar is not a test of skill, it's one of patience.
  20. Expansions and content patches, gotta keep you hooked and playing somehow. I mean they seriously need to do things like that. I got a sub that doesn't expire til june or whatever, so they got until then I suppose to spice things up a little.
  21. I don't see how the post was unclear in any form, he's talking about aggro range.
  22. Or they see things for what they are, a story meant to entertain. There's nothing in that quest that is "profound". it would have more of an impact if you got to see the ramifications of your actions. However it's an mmo, with very confined parameters, so all you get is an upset npc, that's it. Your actions have no far reaching impact so it's not monstrous of a person who simply can't relate to choices which ultimately do not matter in the game. It's wholly different from a decent book or movie where you see the character deal with the choices they make. In this game, all you do is forgotten by the time you run to the next npc.
  23. Nah it isn't just you, I've noticed this myself. My sith inquisitor has FIVE relics, looted from various boxes and they are all light side restricted. My trooper has found 2 relics so far and they are dark side restricted.
  24. That means little in the star wars universe as there are several examples of humans settling on various planets and developing their own specific offshoot look. Take the chiss for example, some of the lore says they were ordinary humans who developed the blue skin from glacial radiation.
  25. no diplomacy, she's an artificer. Just found it weird when I looked at her character panel, she's not even light 1 at this point.
