  1. Since when have forum discussions actually mattered whether someone had a legitimate argument or not? Last I checked, nobody cared if someone "fails" at a forum argument, because most of the forum content isn't comprised of intelligent thought in the first place. Logic rarely has any place on a gaming forum, especially when the forum is in regards to player-based PvP issues.
  2. And people learn what grass and snow are, and the differences between them,in the 2nd grade. Would you agree that 2nd grade comes before 3rd grade? And therefore people should know Grass/Snow that they typically see every day better than cardinal directions that they don't use daily?
  3. Not if you don't use East/West normally in your day to day life. You would still need to re-learn E/W, even if its your first time in a WZ.
  4. Tell that to millions of people who have gotten killed, maimed, or disabled in a car crash by taking a split second to look down at their GPS, spedometer, radar detector, etc. Looking away, whether it be for a split second or not, can have a major impact. That seems rather heartless of you to discredit the impact that such an act can have one a persons life, even going so far as to call it ridiculous...... I never said to constantly reposition your camera. Please re-read.
  5. Ironically enough, in Alderaan, neither turret on the side is called East/West when they are taken (like they are in Voidstar), which is yet another reason that leads me to believe that East/West is not the intended name for those turrets. It's disappointing to hear that players can't tell if one side is Snow or Grass from the middle. Unless you are looking directly at one of the walls in the middle, you will be able to see grass or snow leading one direction or the other. And in all honesty, if all that you are doing is looking directly at one of the walls while in the middle, it really doesn't matter if you answer the call to grass/snow or not.......your team is better off if you just leave the game in the first place to let someone else join. Find a good camera position, and you can see grass or snow from the middle very easily.
  6. The whole grass/snow aspect is to get rid of the necessity of using a minimap in the first place, because it forces the player to take their eyes off of the action to look at the minimap.
  7. Uh oh! You went too far west, but you're continuing to go West because you were told to go West. Not a very accurate analogy. Damn, you took the time to look down at your minimap to decipher which way was East, and which way was West. Someone capped the turret right in front of you because your eyes were drawn away from the action on the screen. E/W just caused you to lose a node.
  8. Knowing the map does not equate guarantee one to be a skilled PvPer. And this thread is not segregating skilled players from the unskilled.
  9. Wrong. Grass/snow are landmarks. You admitted that you use Landmarks to gather your bearing before heading East or West, which means that whether or not you specifically use Grass or Snow, you use Landmarks before you process east/west. This makes East/West slower to process than the Landmarks themselves. At that point, it's just a matter of agreeing on which landmarks are best suited for a given Warzone map. In Alderaan's case, Snow/Grass are the top dogs. So however effective or fast you, personally, are at acting to a call. Based on historical studies referenced by BangokBetty, the Landmarks will make you even more effective and/or faster than your current system, if you allow it the opportunity to be. No one is doubting that a "familiar" system will work better than a different system that someone hasn't gotten used to. We are looking at the end result if equal time and effort were put into both systems, which would be more efficient and faster. As for evidence, you're a good case study to illustrate that grass/snow is faster, by the admission of your own actions.
  10. Wonderful post BangkokBetty. Well said, and well explained. Sure it is! And thank you for stating that I was correct. I appreciate it. And because of the above argument about orientation, it innately makes callouts using East/West more difficult, and more advanced than simply using landmarks. So in a sense, yes, the thread IS about orientation, and how quickly you can orient yourself after a PvP skirmish. And this is incorrect. East/West may potentially be better for people who haven't learn the map yet, but only briefly, and at that point if they are new to the map, they are probably new to Warzones in the first place, any call will not yield accepable results in a competitive environment. So we can eliminate newbies from the argument, and solely focus on people who know the map. And when you know the map, then Snow/Grass/Landmarks are going to be the simpler and faster method. Will East/West work? Certainly. Will East/West work easier/faster than Snow/Grass for the majority of players? Absolutely not. If someone is brand new to Warzones in the first, place, I would rather they survey and learn the map more than come when a call is made. I say this because the next time they are in this WZ, they will know where Snow/Grass is, and be much more prompt in arriving at those destinations. Again.....will East/West work? Yes. Nobody can refute that East/West will work. Will E/W be more efficient? Not to the majority of players who know the map.
  11. Wrong. Fighting on the node isn't always the best strategy, for all players on the team. Sometimes misdirection is a very useful way to confuse your opponent and take a node.
  12. Explain what point you were trying to make then. I'm not insulting your intelligence. I'm asking that you make sense in your posts, if you are going to ask for a response you feel worthy of. Actually there is no burden of proof for myself. I have provided the proof, and posted it within this thread. The only burden here is for you to have to re-read and comprehend what you've read to find it, if you so choose.
  13. Read the thread, in its entirety. By saying this, you obviously haven't read the thread in it's entirety. The proof is there. The burden is on you to sift through the pages if you're really interested in finding it. Again, you have not read my posts accurately. I agree that most people know how the map is oriented. Most players do not retain their own orientation through all of the PvP skirmishes that take place, which means they eventually become disoriented in regards to which direction they are facing. The map stays the same, the player direction does not. To re-orient themselves, they look at either the landmarks, or the minimap. How do you know you're heading east? Personally, I dont find the minimap cumbersome, because I'm a skilled player. However, relativity is a funny thing. Relative to the minimap, Landmarks are infinitely easier to use to orient yourself. With Landmarks, you DO NOT need to look away from the action for any period of time. With Landmarks, you DO NOT need to process a map, and then process East or West. With Minimap usage, you need to do both, and that makes it more cumbersome than Landmarks, very obviously. Incorrect. Read it again.
  14. Perhaps that is where you are misinformed. The thread is about a multitude of things, including, but not limited to, what you've just mentioned. My posts have proven, from a mechanical and practical and tested standpoint that Snow/Grass is much more efficient of a system than East and West. In fact, the entire argument I had with Varicite was to prove that while he may use East/West system, it's derived from and utilizes a Landmark system at it's root; thus proving that Landmark systems (like Grass/Snow) work much more efficient than East/West. He himself admitted to using Landmarks in order to orient himself for the East/West system. Essentially he, and anyone else using E/W, are voluntarily using a much more cumbersome system. Think of it as the equivalent of two people describing a bowling ball. Person A says it's a ball used in bowling. Straight to the point. Person B uses a deeper, trickier description: "I get laid in an alley; I often end up in the middle of your split; When you slip your finger inside me, I am ready to roll." (thank you Dirty Minds Game) Both describe a bowling ball, but one is much quicker and straight to the point. One doesn't require you to think about it, and doesn't change meanings based on your minds orientation. East/West requires use of the minimap to gather bearings, or use of Landmarks (Snow, Grass, Turrets, Spawnpoints, etc.) to gather bearings. If you already know which landmark is where, then you should already know which direction to head from that information alone. Why take extra processing time to try to associate West with Snow, and East with Grass? Just see the landmark, and go. You're potentially costing your team the game by acting needlessly slower or by making the directional system much more cumbersome than it has to be. It's the equivalent of a Sith Assassin that can use Thrash any time he wants, but he makes a concerted effort to try to needlessly use Maul before it every time. It's a waste of time and energy (or force!).
